Commentary

That is it from this one-sided game. Do shift tabs and catch the action between Bangalore and Mumbai. From here, goodbye and cheers!

Jos Buttler is the Player of the Match for scoring 54 off just 22 balls. He says that it was a fantastic start and their last season counts for nothing so they needed a fresh start and this win is a good marker for them. Mentions that they did have plans but they need to react on the day and play the situations. Claims that he is happy with the batting and is trying to keep a clear mind. Ends by saying that a good start in the Powerplay and not losing wickets allowed them to be aggressive.

Sanju Samson the captain of Rajasthan says that he was wondering how they will start and he is happy with how they played and won. Claims that having batters like Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal helps as they play in a certain way in the Powerplay. Mentions that they do not know how the tournament will go and that they need to keep their heads down. Adds that anything can happen going forward and he informs that he wanted to stay till late which he did. Ends by saying that they have their strengths but there will also be weaknesses and through the tournament, it will be found out.

It is time for the presentations and several individual awards have been handed over...

Yuzvendra Chahal has a few words to share. He says that they got a good start in their batting and the way Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal batted, they knew 200 was a decent score. Mentions that his plan was to vary his pace and bowl straight to Harry Brook which is his strength. Ends by saying he will try a new celebration if he gets a five-wicket haul.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar is up for a quick chat. He says that they need to forget this and move forward. Claims that they had a few positives as they were able to pull things back in the last few overs pulled things back and Umran Malik's performance with the bat was nice. Mentions that it is the first match of the season and there is room to improve. He hopes that in the coming matches, they are able to execute their plans. Ends by saying that it was a pretty good track and they can prepare what they want but they are not too worried about it as they look forward to playing better.

Earlier in the game, Rajasthan posted a huge total on the board courtesy of half-centuries from Jos Buttler, Sanju Samson, and Yashasvi Jaiswal. For Hyderabad, Fazalhaq Farooqi and T Natarajan picked up a couple of wickets each while Umran Malik got one to his name. However, most of them were quite expensive and in the end, the total proved to be too much for them.

Rajasthan got off to a flier with Trent Boult starting with a double-wicket maiden by getting rid of Abhishek Sharma and Rahul Tripathi. That set the tone for them and all of the bowlers backed up brilliantly. Yuzvendra Chahal was brilliant as usual picking up four wickets while Jason Holder and Ravichandran Ashwin chipped in with one helping their side to a comfortable win.

Hyderabad never really got going in their innings and losing two crucial wickets in the first over put them on the back foot and they couldn't recover from that. None of the batters looked comfortable out there and with the asking rate always creeping up they crumbled under pressure. Mayank Agarwal played a fighting knock and in the end, two quick cameos from Abdul Samad and Umran Malik made the manner of defeat look much kinder.

A dominating victory for Rajasthan! They were all over the hosts right from the start of the game and never really gave anything away. They start their campaign with a thumping 72-run win while Hyderabad will need to go back to the drawing board and come back stronger in the next match.

Commentary

We are back for the second essay as the umpires make their way out to the middle. The Rajasthan players form a huddle at the boundary line before dispersing and taking their respective fielding positions. Mayank Agarwal and Abhishek Sharma stride out to the center to open the innings for Hyderabad. Trent Boult has the new ball in his hand and will begin proceedings. Let's go...

... THE RUN CHASE ...

Right then, an exciting second half of this game is coming our way. Hyderabad need a good start from their openers and will want to set a solid platform to push for a win later in the inning. Rajasthan have a good total on the board and will want to take some early wickets with the scoreboard pressure intact. Join us shortly for the run chase...

Adil Rashid is up for a quick chat. He says that some of the balls were turning, but it is a good batting wicket. Adds that they did exceptionally well to restrict their opponents to 203 considering the start that they got, and praised Fazalhaq Farooqi and T Natarajan for their efforts. Mentions that it is nice to play in front of a full house and against the best players. Ends by saying that they may have conceded a bit more than they would have liked, but hopes that they can chase this down.

Hyderabad's new ball bowlers were unable to get any control at the start of the inning and due to their lack of discipline found themselves behind in the game early on. The left-arm pace duo of T Natarajan and Fazalhaq Farooqi picked up a couple of wickets each and speedster Umran Malik chipped in with one. They will hope that the batters put on a good performance and help them overcome this target. They would have loved to have Aiden Markram for this game in this massive chase as he just played an outstanding inning of 175 against the Netherlands in the ODI currently taking place in Johannesburg.

Rajasthan were off the blocks in quick time as Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal helped the Pink team post its highest Powerplay score in the Indian T20 League as they got 85 runs in the first six overs. Both the batters departed after reaching their half-centuries but Sanju Samson managed to continue the good work and got to his fifty as well. The rest of the batters could not build on the good work done by the top three batters and they just managed to stumble across the 200-run mark courtesy of a cameo from Shimron Hetmyer.

We have our first 200-plus score in the 2023 edition of the Indian T20 League! What an outstanding batting display this has been from the visitors! They have put up a massive total of 203 on the board and will be silently confident of defending this total. The hosts will feel like they pulled things back slightly towards the latter part of the inning but their start was really poor and they will now have an uphill task to chase down this target.

19.54

FOUR! SMASHED! Fazalhaq Farooqi misses his yorker, and serves this full, on off, Shimron Hetmyer stays there and smashes it wide of long off for a boundary down the ground. 200 up!

19.42

This is overpitched and around off, Shimron Hetmyer drills it towards deep point for a run. The batters decide late for the second run and there is some confusion, but they make it in the end as the throw was a poor one from the deep as well. The umpire wants to check for the short run, but Shimron Hetmyer has made his ground.

19.30

Another brilliant yorker, on off, Shimron Hetmyer only manages to dig it back to the bowler.

19.20

NOT OUT! Shimron Hetmyer survives! Fazalhaq Farooqi nails the yorker, outside off, Shimron Hetmyer tries to squeeze it away, but misses as the ball goes just under his bat and towards the keeper with a deflection. There is an appeal for the catch, but the replays show that the ball bounced before going to Glenn Phillips.

The umpires have gone upstairs to check for a caught behind. Looks like the ball took the edge but bounced behind the bat before going to the keeper.

19.12

Fazalhaq Farooqi nails the yorker and bowls this going down leg. Shimron Hetmyer digs this out towards deep mid-wicket for a couple of runs.

18.44b

FOUR BYES! T Natarajan is very unlucky here! He bowls a deceptive slower ball, on a length and on off, Ravichandran Ashwin looks to play it, but misses and Glenn Phillips dives forward, but fails to stop it as the ball races to the third man fence for four byes.

Ravichandran Ashwin is the new batter at the crease.

18.3W

OUT! TAKEN! T Natarajan gets his man now! However, the credit goes to Abhishek Sharma for a brilliant catch in the deep. This is on a hard length and around middle, Sanju Samson goes for the slog, but is a bit early into his shot and mistimes it high in the air as the ball travels towards the deep mid-wicket fence where Abhishek Sharma judges it well and takes it just inside and does well to keep his balance too. Samson goes after playing a fine innings.

18.21

A low full toss, on off, Shimron Hetmyer smackes it towards long off for just a single.

18.10

Chance of a run out....missed! This is a brilliatn yorker, on off, Shimron Hetmyer digs it out towards extra cover and sets off for the run, but Samson sends him back halfway through.

We are moments away from the start, but before that everyone who is present at the ground will maintain a minute of silence for former Indian cricketer Salim Durani who sadly passed away last night. May God bless the soul of the great man.

Harry Brook is up for a chat before his first appearance in the Indian T20 League. He says that he is looking forward to it and the stadium looks packed. Mentions that he hasn’t played T20 cricket since the World Cup and hopefully he can get some off the middle of the bat and contribute to the team. Claims that Adil Rashid is a clever bowler and he will be an extremely good addition to the team. Ends by saying Aiden Markram, the regular skipper, will be a big miss but everyone is committed and they will look to concentrate on this game first.

Sanju Samson the skipper of Rajasthan says the wicket looks good so they don’t mind batting and they are confident. Mentions that it is a new tournament with new teams and with the new rules coming in, it will be very different but they back themselves to do well. Adds that it is good that they did well in the last season as they were able to give the fans good moments to cheer for and he is proud of the young players for the effort they put. Claims that they are back in Jaipur after a while and he is very happy.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar the captain of Hyderabad says that they will bowl first. Adds that the wicket looks good to bat, but this being an afternoon game there might be some help for the bowlers. Tells that they are lucky to have players who have done well for their respective national teams. Mentions that is a good thing that he is captain for one game as it is less pressure on him, but he will try his best to get the win.

Impact Players for Rajasthan - Dhruv Jurel, Sandeep Sharma, Murugan Ashwin, Navdeep Saini, Donovan Ferreira.

Rajasthan (Playing XI) - Jos Buttler, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson(C)&(WK), Devdutt Padikkal, Riyan Parag, Shimron Hetmyer, Ravichandran Ashwin, Jason Holder, Trent Boult, KM Asif, Yuzvendra Chahal.

Hyderabad (Playing XI) - Mayank Agarwal, Abhishek Sharma, Rahul Tripathi, Harry Brook, Washington Sundar, Glenn Phillips (WK), Umran Malik, Adil Rashid, Bhuvneshwar Kumar (C), T Natarajan, Fazalhaq Farooqi.

TOSS - The captains are out in the middle. The coin is flipped into the air and lands in favor of Hyderabad. They have elected to BOWL first.

PITCH REPORT - Sanjay Manjrekar is pitchside. He says that the boundaries are pretty even on both sides. Adds that it is completely covered by green grass and it is a black soil pitch. Tells the surface looks pristine and the batters will be able to play their shots freely. Reckons spinners might get some help, but other than that it is a batting paradise and teams will look to chase.

Rajasthan hardly made any changes to their squad after what many would consider a successful season in the last edition. They did stumble at the final frontier but the way the team played together has inspired enough confidence in the management to persist with most of their regular players. They have a devastating batting line-up that could take the attack to the bowlers from the word go and one of the most balanced bowling units in the tournament. Will they be able to have another strong campaign and start with a crucial win? Or will Hyderabad celebrate their return to the home ground with a morale-boosting victory? We will find out soon. Stay tuned for the toss and team updates.

The home-and-away format is perfectly suited for the hosts as they have managed to build a fortress at their home ground defending numerous low scores in the past with their disciplined bowling line-up. They may be short-staffed with several key players missing the tie due to international commitments but have managed to build a strong core of young Indian talent. These players will play a crucial role in the success of the team this year, especially with the bat since the bowling unit looks settled with the perfect balance of youth and experience at their disposal.

Hello, and a warm welcome, ladies and gentlemen to our coverage of match number 4 in the 16th edition of the Indian T20 League from the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad as the hosts from Hyderabad lock horns against the runners-up from last season, Rajasthan. Both teams have won one title each and will be eager to kickstart their campaign with a win as they look to get ahead of the competition early in the season. It will also boost the confidence of the players as they look to make a mark and cement their place in the playing XI.

... MATCH DAY ...

The 2023 edition of the Indian T20 League is here and on the first Super Sunday of the tournament, there is a doubleheader lined up for the fans. Match number 4 will be the first game on Super Sunday and will be played between Hyderabad and Rajasthan at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Two teams who had a contrasting season last time around but both will be fired up and raring to start their campaign with a win. Hyderabad are back playing at home where they have famously defended numerous low totals in the past and will be counting on home advantage to play a big role this season. Hyderabad have made an overhaul in their overseas contingent letting go of former skipper Kane Williamson and Nicholas Pooran as well but they have raked in in-form and highly-rated batter Harry Brook and Afghan pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi. Skipper Aiden Markram and a couple of his Proteas colleagues will miss the first few games due to international commitments and it will be Bhuvneshwar Kumar to lead the side in Markram's absence. They have a strong Indian core with the likes of Abhishek Sharma, Rahul Tripathi, Washington Sundar, Umran Malik and T Natarajan which will be crucial for their success. Hyderabad finished 8th on the points table last time around and the 2016 champions will look to reach the playoffs this time around. Rajasthan on the contrary have retained almost the same side from the previous edition and it isn't a surprise given they finished runners-up. The likes of Jos Buttler, Sanju Samson and Shimron Hetmyer will hold the key with the bat with the likes of Devdutt Padikkal, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Joe Root providing ample support. The bulk of the bowling will be done by Kiwi pacer Trent Boult alongside the Indian spin duo of Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin. Jason Holder, Obed McCoy and Kuldeep Sen will be crucial contributing factors in times of need and all in all, Rajasthan do have a pretty settled lineup. Hyderabad will certainly have the home advantage but Rajasthan are a side that has done well in the recent past and if it is a typical slow wicket, the likes of Ashwin and Chahal might overpower the opposition. Hyderabad do have the added firepower with both bat and ball though which might help them turn the game on its head. Which side will be able to shrug off the nerves and start off on the right foot? We shall find out.
