Gandhinagar South is constituency number thirty-five of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly. It is one of the five Assembly seats of Gujarat's Gandhinagar district apart from Dahegam, Gandhinagar North, Mansa and Kalol. It is one of the seven Assembly seats that make up the Ahmedabad East Lok Sabha constituency. The Gandhinagar South Assembly constituency is a general seat, i.e. it is not reserved for Scheduled Castes (SCs) or Scheduled Tribes (STs). In 2017, BJP's Shambhuji Chelaji Thakor defeated Congress candidate Govindji Hiraji Solanki by 11,538 votes. In 2022, BJP's Alpesh Thakor is facing Congress candidate Dr Himanshu Patel and AAP's Dolatbhai Pravinchandra Patel.
