Karanj is constituency number 162 of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly. It is one of the 16 Assembly seats of Gujarat's Surat district apart from Olpad, Mangrol, Mandvi, Kamrej, Surat East, Surat North, Varachha Road, Limbayat, Udhna, Majura, Katargam, Surat West, Choryasi, Bardoli and Mahuva. It is one of the seven Assembly seats that make up the Surat Lok Sabha constituency. The Karanj Assembly constituency is a general seat, i.e. it is not reserved for Scheduled Castes (SCs) or Scheduled Tribes (STs).
