Stay tuned for the presentations...

Earlier in the game, Afghanistan's bowling unit, led by the talismanic Rashid Khan, performed exceptionally well in the middle overs of the match. Despite a strong start by Irish openers Andrew Balbirnie and Paul Stirling in the powerplay, Rashid's impressive spell of 3/19 and debutant Nangeyalia Kharote's 2/16 in their 4 overs restricted the Irish side effectively. Although Ireland seemed headed for a below-par total, Harry Tector's aggressive batting in the final five overs helped them reach a good score of 149 runs!

To be honest, there is not much to write about the Afghanistan batters. They were under the pump from the word go. They kept on losing a wicket whenever a good partnership was brewing for them. Mohammad Ishaq and Mohammad Nabi showed some intent in the middle and scored 31 and 25 respectively, but that was it. They will look to leave this behind and bounce back in their following game.

A convincing victory for Ireland as they win the game by 38 runs! Their bowling performance was just exceptional! Mark Adair and Joshua Little spearheaded the attack, causing significant trouble for the opposition with the new ball, claiming three early wickets in the first two overs. Barry McCarthy made a crucial contribution by dismissing the dangerous Ibrahim Zadran. Ben White further consolidated Ireland's dominance by dismantling the middle order, ultimately finishing with a four-wicket haul. Their overall bowling and fielding efforts were exceptional, which helped them cruise towards victory and take an early lead in this T20I series.

Commentary

We are back for Afghanistan's reply. It is Sediqullah Atal and Rahmanullah Gurbaz walk out to open for Afghanistan with the bat in hand. It is going to be Mark Adair to start with the new ball. Here we go...

... Run Chase ...

Phew! This is an entertaining contest for sure. Afghanistan have looked really solid with the bat in recent times. Do they have enough composure to get over the line? Let us find out. Second essay coming up shortly.

Rashid Khan is in for a quick chat. He says that he is happy that everything went well for him and he is happy to contribute for his side. Adds that 150 is a good total on this wicket and ends by saying that they will look to chase it and give their best.

Afghanistan were incredible with the ball. They knew that dew will come in and the spinners need to make an impact before that. These guys just executed their plans really well, but the seamers could not have a similar impact in the death overs. Rashid Khan and Nangeyalia Kharote combined for 5 wickets. The debutant did a wonderful job, and made a huge impact. Fazalhaq Farooqi and Naveen-ul-Haq started well with the new ball, but could not end it on a high.

Ireland were off to a cautious start for sure, as they struggled to find runs against Faz in the very first over, as the seamer was swinging the ball really well. Nonetheless, they came into the game shortly, when Andy Balbernie started to open his arms, although he was sent back after a solid start of 22 runs. Same for Paul Stirling, he got off to a good start but could not make it count. He was sent back on 25.  Then came a period when Ireland struggled against the spinner, when they lost three wickets in just two overs. They were teetering at 91/5 at 15 overs, although Harry Tector was able to apply the finishing touches and ends his night with a well deserved half-century.

This is some positive recovery from Ireland. Harry Tector scored boundaries for fun in the final over. 18 runs in the final 4 deliveries. They could not get past that 150-run mark but they would feel that they have given something for their bowlers to fight for. Will it be enough, is the real question.

Drinks! Afghanistan are off to a shaky start here and have lost five wickets. They are reeling on 58/5 at the halfway stage and they need a gritty stand now. Ireland have been brilliant, as they have picked the vital wickets and have kept a lid on the scoring rate as well. They will look to pick up some more wickets and get the game under control. Let's see how it pans out...

We are all set to begin. The players stride out in the middle and line up for their respective national anthems. It will be Ireland's first, followed by the national anthem of Afghanistan.

Paul Stirling, the skipper of Ireland, says that he's happy with the toss and they will look to put as many runs on the board. Adds some changes from their previous ODI game and ends by saying that they will look to win this game.

Rashid Khan, the captain of Afghanistan is in for a chat. He says that they will bowl first. There is no specific reason but you can expect dew at the later stages. Informs that his recovery has been really well and is happy to be back on the field. Mentions that it was delighted to see with the way the players expressed themselves really well. States that there are three new faces in the side.

PITCH REPORT - Tino Mawoyo is pitchside. He says that the pitch is the same as what was used for a couple of ODI's before and its a difficult surface to bat on. It is going to be a low-scoring game, as the par score here will be around 150. The team winning the toss will look to bat first and put some runs on the board.

Afghanistan (Playing XI) -Rahmanullah Gurbaz (WK), Ibrahim Zadran, Sediqullah Atal, Mohammad Ishaq, Azmatullah Omarzai, Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan (C), Nangeyalia Kharote, Naveen-ul-Haq, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Ijaz Ahmadzai.

TOSS - The coin goes up and lands in favour of Afghanistan. They will BOWL first.

The Irish team has had trouble with the white ball. They boast a potent fast-bowling attack, but one of their biggest weaknesses in these circumstances is the absence of good spinners. Afghanistan's seasoned bowlers are back, which is a huge boost. It would be intriguing to watch if the self-assured Afghan side can be challenged by the Irish team. Stay tuned for Toss and Team updates...
