Mitchell Starc takes a step back, leaps, and takes a good catch over his head. A comprehensive win for the Aussies.

OUT! CAUGHT! What a start to the final session from Nathan Lyon. He serves it full and just outside off, with a hint of turn. Taskin Ahmed leans forward and tries to block it. The ball kisses the outside edge of his blade and carries to the right of the slip fielder, Steve Smith, who bends low to that side and takes a good catch just above the ground. The Aussies are just one wicket away from the win now.

... DAY 2, SESSION 3 ...

Australia closing in - It was a tough interrogation early on for Mushfiqur Rahim and Najmul Hossain Shanto, with Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon bowling in tandem and giving them nothing away. Shanto eventually perished trying to release the pressure, and from there, Rahim kept losing partners at the other end as Australia tightened their grip. Litton Das endured a third duck in the series, ending the series without scoring a run, while Starc completed a 10-wicket haul for the match. Rahim perhaps has not shepherded the tail as much as he should, which is a little surprising given his experience. How long can Bangladesh hang on before Australia complete the job? We will find out when the third session resumes at 5 am GMT.

4.44 am GMT - TEA, DAY 2 - Players head off for the Tea break with the finish line in sight for Australia. 5 wickets fell in the second session, and that has left Mushfiqur Rahim and the tail to delay the inevitable for as long as they can.

Dug into the surface, around off, jags back in. Mushfiqur Rahim leaves it on length. THAT WILL BE TEA ON DAY 2!

Much fuller and on middle, angling into the stumps. Mushfiqur Rahim fends it back to the bowler. Can Starc get a wicket on the last ball and extend this session?

EDGED AND FOUR! Almost another wicket! Mitchell Starc hits the deck hard and around off, gets some steep bounce and nips away a bit as well. Taijul Islam gets stuck in his crease and looks to clip it across the line but gets nowhere near the ball as it goes through and rattles the stumps. Starc holds the ball high above his head and takes in all the applause.

Travis Head moves forward and does the rest. Mahmud so nearly stepped back onto the stumps after he copped it on the gloves. Not sure why, but Head ran towards the stumps and also took the bails off. Australia are now 3 wickets away from a win.

Digs it in short, on middle. Hasan ducks but leaves his bat hanging like a periscope. The ball sails just over the blade.

Oh, that has got to hurt. Cummins digs it in short from around the wicket. Mahmud tries to duck but does not manage to get low enough and the ball pings him on the left shoulder before dropping beside him on the off side.

We are into the bowlers now. This could end quite quickly here. Hasan Mahmud walks out to bat. A leg gully is in place for him, where he got out in the first innings.

OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! An innocuous delivery, but it still fetches Pat Cummins a wicket, and he has a sheepish smile on his face. Short and wide on off, there to be put away. Miraz hangs back and throws his hands at the ball but the ball kicks up a bit to graze the top edge of the blade. It keeps rising on its way to the keeper. Alex Carey leaps to his right and gobbles it up at head height. Miraz got away with one in the previous over of Starc when he threw his bat at the ball, but not this time. Bangladesh are now 68/6, trailing by 78 runs.

... DAY 2, SESSION 2 ...

Bangladesh have it all to do - Earlier, Australia began the day with a 101-run lead and 8 wickets down, and while Shoriful Islam picked up where he left off yesterday, the other two quicks were a little wayward. Australia managed to stretch the lead to 146 before being bowled out. It is a long road ahead for the tourists, but they have two experienced campaigners at the crease to do the job, with Litton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz still to follow. Can Bangladesh dig deep and find a way back into this Test, or will Australia continue to tighten their grip? Do join us back at 2.40 am GMT for the second session.

Australia tighten the screws - In the quest to erase the 146-run deficit, Bangladesh’s top three could not muster much. Mitchell Starc, who has had to contend with the breeze and has been on the expensive side, still managed to strike twice before Pat Cummins got in on the act. After the way the first innings panned out, Bangladesh’s batters have looked to be more positive this time around. Shanto, in particular, fought fire with fire in his battle against Starc, and there have been a few loose strokes as well. It will be about striking the right balance between being positive and showing the patience needed in these conditions.

2.02 am GMT - LUNCH, DAY 2 - Australia walk off as a happy bunch after making inroads in the hour before the break and will be pleased with how the day has gone so far. As for Bangladesh, they have their work cut out if they are to stay in this game.

Floated up by Lyon, full and straight at the stumps. Shanto makes another watchful block off the front foot, and Lyon begins with a maiden. That will be Lunch on Day 2.

OUT! CAUGHT! Tanzid Hasan will be so disappointed with that, but that's a great mixture of deliveries from the Aussie skipper. A skiddy short ball from Pat Cummins, digging it in right at the batter. Hasan tries to get inside the line to play the favoured hook shot but gets into an awkward position. The ball flies off the top edge down to fine leg, where Mitchell Starc takes a good low catch. Hasan looked pretty decent out there till that delivery, and Bangladesh are now 24/3, still trailing by 122 runs.

Very full on off, landing it almost in the blockhole. Tanzid Hasan digs it out to the off side.

Starc just seems to have lost his radar a bit in this over. This is pushed well wide of the off stump, not quite full enough. Hasan lets it go.

OUT! CAUGHT! There it is, and Bangladesh finally manage to close out the Australian first innings. The hosts are bowled out for 210, ending with a 146-run first-innings lead. Taijul Islam comes around the wicket now and floats this one up around middle and leg. Josh Hazlewood takes the front leg out and goes for the slog sweep but gets a top edge. The ball goes towards mid-wicket, where Shadman Islam from short mid-wicket backtracks and settles under the swirling ball to take a good catch.

However, replays show that the fielder's leg was in contact with the ropes when the ball was pushed back in, so it will be a boundary.

Josh Hazlewood is the last man in. Brendon Julian informs that Shoriful Islam’s 7/44 are the best figures by a Bangladesh bowler in an away Test.

OUT! LBW! That is a gem of a delivery and Shoriful Islam has 7 wickets to his name in this innings. Islam goes full and fast, straighter at the stumps. The ball shapes back in really late and sharply too, curving in like a banana shape and Cameron Green is completely taken by surprise. He tries to jam it out but gets hit on the front foot. The ball rolls down to deep third and there's a big appeal for LBW. The umpire turns it out but the review is taken. Ball Tracking comes up with three reds and Green has to depart after a fighting knock, and there's nothing he could have actually done about that delivery. Australia are now 9 down with a lead of 122.

Review time. This looked pretty close in real time. It has struck Green on the left toe right in front of the stumps, and he could be gone here. Three reds on Ball Tracking.

Signing off - It was a highly entertaining first day as a Test venue for Mackay, with 18 wickets falling in the day. That is the third-most wickets to fall on Day 1 of a Test in Australia since 1975. Reading too much into that number would suggest the ball did all sorts, but it was a combination of some quality bowling from the left-armers on both sides and, at times, some not-so-good batting. Just as they did with the ball, Bangladesh will have to show resolve with the bat in their second dig, while Australia will look to add as much as they can to their lead. The game is already moving at quite a pace, and who knows, we might even have a two-day finish. From control to chaos - Australia lost their top three inside 8 overs, but Steve Smith and Cameron Green came together to steady the ship. When the partnership was going strong, it looked solid for the home side and ominous for Bangladesh. But then Shoriful Islam returned to the attack and produced a special spell of bowling. Smith’s departure triggered a collapse, with Australia slipping from 145/4 to 148/8. Despite wickets falling around him, Green held firm, and the confidence from his second-innings hundred in Darwin was evident. With Nathan Lyon for company, he managed to see out the day.

Earlier in the day - Stung by the defeat in Darwin, Australia made an authoritative start to the Test after inserting Bangladesh into bat. For the 4th time in his career, Mitchell Starc struck with the first ball of a Test and needed only 21 more balls to complete his five-wicket haul, reducing the tourists to 12/5. The rest of the Aussie pace attack chipped in as well, but a 25-run last-wicket stand helped Bangladesh avoid going below their lowest Test score of 43, which was under serious threat.

7.33 am GMT - STUMPS, DAY 1 - End of a rather extraordinary day in Mackay. Bowling Bangladesh out for 64, Australia had the perfect opportunity to ram home the advantage, and they will be disappointed to have lost 8 wickets. However, they still have a 101-run lead, which, given the context of the game, is a significant advantage. Bangladesh’s recent success, whether with the white ball or red ball, has been driven by their pace battery. On a day when it was a dismal batting effort and could so easily have left them out of the contest, their quicks have kept them alive.

It brushes the gloves of the batter before lobbing up off the right shoulder. Litton Das moves to his left and does the rest. From 145/4, Australia are now 146/7, with the lead being 82 runs.

Hint of an inswinger! Fuller in length, on middle, nipping in. Pat Cummins defends it from the inner part of his bat and it deflects onto his boot before the ball rolls toward cover.

A huge wicket for Bangladesh, and with that, the umpires have taken the DRINKS BREAK. Australia have been scoring at a healthy rate, close to five an over, but the wicket of Steve Smith will certainly lift the spirits in the Bangladesh camp. It is important that Bangladesh now create pressure from both ends and bowl in partnerships. Alex Carey joins Cameron Green out in the middle.

OUT! LBW! A prolonged appeal and the finger is raised. Steve Smith has a rather reluctant look on his face as he takes the review. From over the wicket, fuller in length, around off. We have seen the ball wobble in English conditions, where keepers can find it tricky to judge its movement, not so much in Australia.

Pushes the length up but the line is a bit too straight, shaping back in at the pads. Smith thinks about playing the glance, but with a leg slip in place, he does not offer a shot and lets the ball strike his pad.

Looking ahead - 13 wickets have already fallen across the two sessions on the opening day. There has been enough in the pitch for the pacers to work with, and the Bangladesh quicks will need to make the most of it. We did see the ball soften towards the back end of Bangladesh’s innings and the conditions ease out, so Smith and Green will look to navigate through this phase while the ball is still hard. Work to do for both sides, and that sets up an intriguing final session, with play scheduled to resume at 5 am GMT. Bangladesh make inroads - The tourists began the second session at 35/6, and it was up to Mehidy Hasan Miraz to fight it out with the tail, but he could not hang around for long. The prospect of going even lower than their lowest Test score of 43 loomed large, but a final-wicket stand helped them avoid that unwanted record. With the ball, Hasan Mahmud did not quite hit his straps straight away, but Taskin Ahmed managed to ask a few questions of the Australian openers and dismissed Matt Renshaw. Shoriful Islam then went bang, bang, leaving even more scrutiny on the out-of-form Marnus Labuschagne.

4.44 am GMT - TEA, DAY 1 - Bowled out for 64, it is going to be a long climb back into the game for Bangladesh, but they have responded well with three wickets. Another stern test awaits Australia, with their batting unit needing to back up the good work done by their bowlers.

A dot to finish the session, and that will be Tea on Day 1. This is bowled fuller on off, allowing the ball to swing back in. Cameron Green stays on the front foot and blocks it off.

Good running! Bowled slightly into the wicket and over the stumps, Smith gets forward and nudges it down in front of covers, pinching a quick single.

Pitched up on a fullish length, nibbling away from wide of the off stump. Smith strides towards the ball before making a leave.

Back of a length around off, darts back in sharply. Smith looks to shoulder arms but gets hit on the midriff.

As the Bangladesh players were contemplating whether to review, Steve Smith can be heard saying, 'Go for it'. It hasn’t gone down well with the two umpires, who have walked over for a quiet word with Smith.

A very excited appeal for LBW, but turned down. Taskin wants it reviewed but Najmul Hossain Shanto decides against it. Seemed a bit too high. Taskin bowls the leg cutter, pitching it on a good length around off, angling it away. Steve Smith gets front and across to block but misses and wears it on the pads.

Short of a good length, outside the line of off stump, left alone by SS.

Ahmed hits the deck hard, angling it in towards off. Steve Smith walks inside the line and plays it with a straight bat to mid on. Also, a No Ball is called for overstepping.

Shaping back in at the pads, too straight. Green misses out on the tickle. The ball goes away off the pads to leg gully.

Australia have been rocked twice in quick succession. In comes Cameron Green to bat now.

OUT! BOWLED! An unfortunate way to get out. When form deserts you, luck often follows. Another low score for Marnus Labuschagne. A double whammy by Shoriful Islam. Moving back in the air, on a length, on the leg stump line. Labuschagne shuffles across to play the tickle but fails to lay any bat on the ball. The ball clips the thigh pad and deflects back onto the sticks. Australia have lost their top three with just 41 on the board and the deficit being 23.

Full and at 132.9 kph, shaping back in at the pads. Smith glances it down to deep fine leg for a single to get off the mark.

Stays over the wicket and fires in a full ball, down leg with a leg gully in place. Smith shuffles across slightly and lets it pass.

Steve Smith walks out to bat next.

OUT! DRAGGED ON! Shoriful Islam strikes with his second ball and he has his arms aloft in celebration. For the third time in as many innings this series, Head has chopped it back onto the stumps. Seam-up ball, nipping back in, on a good length. Head hangs back to flay it away on the off side but the ball cuts back in off the deck to cramp him for room. It catches the inside edge and brushes the back thigh before clattering into the top of the off stump. Australia are 40/2, trailing by 24 runs.

Too full, and too straight as well, at the toes. Head clips it to mid-wicket.

Moving away off the seam, on a back of a length, on off. Head stabs it down in front of point and picks up a single.

Was there an edge? There was a noise and Taskin Ahmed seemed pretty convinced. Najmul Hossain Shanto thinks about it but eventually does not review. A wise decision from Bangladesh, as the UltraEdge shows a flat line and the sound was of the bat clipping the front pad. On a length, angled in before it straightens off the deck to square Travis up on the block.

Delivers it on a good length, on middle. Head hangs back to defend. It squirts off the inner half and goes wide of square leg. Head spots that the ball has gone to the dominant left-hand side of Taijul Islam and sends Marnus back.

Slanting in at the hips,.nudged from the crease to Head.

A loud shout for LBW, but turned down. Taskin Ahmed feels height could be a factor and Bangladesh do not take the review. Drags the length back and this jags back in, around off. Head presses half-forward to stab it down but is beaten on the inside edge to get hit on the flap of the front pad. The Ball Tracking shows that the impact was outside the line of the off stump.

FOUR! Lovely stroke. Full and angled in at the pads from around the wicket. Head lets the ball come on and stays balanced at the crease. Brings his wrists into play and flicks it between mid-wicket and mid on for a boundary.

A bit more effort behind that delivery. Mahmud hammers it on a good length, angling it in from the fourth stump line. Labuschagne makes a confident leave.

A length ball, shaping away a bit, but well wide of the off stump. Labuschagne makes an easy leave.

Good length on the pads, Head misses the tuck and the ball goes off the pads to fine leg. Head picks up a leg bye.

Back of a length, straighter in line, Head dabs it down to mid on.

FOUR! Too much width on offer and Head is all over it in a flash. Short and well wide outside off, Travis Head frees his arms and slashes it one bounce over the deep point fence.

Length ball, pushed towards middle, looking to straighten it down the line. Head strides ahead and punches it to mid on.

Back of a length, hitting the deck hard, Labuschagne tucks it down to the fielder in front of square leg.

Shorter this time, over middle, played off the back foot and nurdled towards square leg.

FOUR! Unlucky for the bowler. Full of a good length, Taskin gets the ball to nip away sharply off the deck. There's that extra bounce off a full length again and Marnus is taken aback, getting squared up. Labuschagne manages to edge it down and the ball goes between the slip cordon and gully for a boundary.

Good length, wide of the off stump, Labuschagne triggers back and across before making a leave.

Taskin hits the deck and looks to dart it back in from outside off. Labuschagne stays well outside his crease and looks to block but gets an inside edge to the leg side.

Good zip off the surface there. Fullish length around the sixth stump line and shaping away. Labuschagne gets across a bit and then leaves it alone.

Length ball, sliding down the leg side. Head looks to tuck it fine but misses.

Beautifully bowled! Mahmud pushes it in from outside off and gets the ball to then seam away. Head gets pegged back and squared up as the ball beats the outside edge by a mile.

Half an appeal for LBW, but turned down. Hasan Mahmud goes around the wicket now, landing it on a good length around off and getting the ball to pitch and nip away. Travis Head gets caught on the crease and jars at it with hard hands, missing the ball, and the ball flicks the front pad on its way to the keeper.

Short of a good length and over the stumps, blocked off by Head.

FOUR! Crashed through the off side. Length ball outside off, Head goes down on one knee and gets his hands through the ball, smashing it past point for a boundary.

Back of a length and at the batter, hurries onto Head, who fends it away.

Marnus Labuschagne is in at number 3. He comes in with his form under scrutiny and in search of a big score. 3 years without a Test century for Marnus, informs Adam Gilchrist.

OUT! EDGED AND GONE! A short stay at the crease for Matt Renshaw on his Test return, and Taskin Ahmed gets the first Aussie wicket. Taskin comes around the wicket now, pitching it fuller and angling it in from off stump. The ball lands on the seam and straightens. Renshaw looks to get across and flick but ends up getting a leading edge towards third slip. Tanzid Hasan takes a good catch around his face, and Australia are 22/1, trailing by 42 runs.

Full of a good length, in the channel around off. Renshaw leaves it alone.

Two more. Back of a length and over middle, Renshaw gets across to the off side, and tucks it down through mid-wicket for a brace.

Hard length from Taskin, over middle and leg. Renshaw strides down the pitch and exposes all of the stumps, tucking it to the right of the long leg fielder for a couple of runs. A touch of Matthew Hayden in the way Renshaw played that. Both from Queensland, both tall and burly opening batters, southpaws too.

Shorter on off, Head gets up on his toes and angles it wide of gully for a quick single.

FOUR! Played with soft hands. Pitched-up delivery on off, looking to swing it in. Head gets halfway forward and pushes at it, edging it down behind point for another boundary. That's a bit frustrating for the bowler.

On a good length again, going across from middle to off. Renshaw hops to the off side and dabs it down into the leg side.

Good-length delivery, on a tight line around off and there's some extra lift off the deck as well. Renshaw shoulders arms.

FOUR! Streaky, but will settle the nerves a bit. Fractionally short and outside off, Renshaw opens the bat face to defend, but runs it more off the outside edge and between point and gully for a boundary. He's off the mark on his return to Test cricket.

Pretty similar line and length to the last delivery, and Renshaw again moves across and defends it off.

Just back of a length, slanted across off. Renshaw moves to the off side and blocks it back onto the deck.

Mahmud starts on a straighter line, angling it into the pads. Head works it through mid-wicket for a single.

Hasan Mahmud will bowl from the other end. He starred with the ball with a Player of the Match performance in Darwin, picking up 9 wickets in the game.

Ooh, that's a top nut to get first up. Good length on, nips away a fair bit. Matt Renshaw strides forward and plays down the line but the ball breezes past the outside edge. Australia are 8/0 after the first over.

Should have been stopped. On the pads again, nudged down to leg gully, where the fielder lets it through to fine leg, conceding a single.

First runs off the bat and Head is off the mark. Hard length over middle and leg, Head gets up on his toes and tucks it away through the big gap in front of square on the leg side and picks up a couple of runs.

That's a peach! Perfect length, just a bit fuller of a good length and darting away from the off stump. Head stays back and looks to fend at it but the ball zips past the outside edge.

A bit of excitement from the bowler, but that's missed the bat. Back of a length and over off, shapes back in. Travis Head gets cramped for room as he looks to shovel it leg side and the ball goes off the thigh pad to the keeper. Also, Ahmed has overstepped. No Ball called.

Ahmed hits the deck hard, angling it across off, Head hops up and taps it down to cover.

FOUR BYES! Swing, and plenty of it, but the line is all wrong from Taskin. Pitched fuller and down leg, shapes further down the leg side. Travis Head misses the flick and the ball beats the keeper, rolling away into the fine leg fence. Australia's innings is underway with byes.

OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Bangladesh have been rolled over for 64. Mitchell Starc wraps the innings up. A six-wicket haul for the left-arm quick. A special effort from a special bowler.  On the fuller side, just around the off pole. Islam exposes all three stumps and has a poke at the ball. It grazes the outside edge before it is snaffled with ease by Alex Carey.

On a good length, on middle. Shoriful makes room for himself and swings hard at it but does not connect.

Leading edge but safe. Angled in at the pads, on a length. Islam closes the bat face early to work it away on the leg side. It pops up off a leading edge but lands well in front of Marnus Labuschagne at point.

Slips in a yorker, just outside the line of the off stump. Shoriful Islam makes room to open up the off side. He fails to squeeze it out.

On top of the off stump. Islam gets on top of the bounce and punches it square on the off side towards deep point for a single.

Hits the hard length, angled in on middle. Shoriful swings across the line but is beaten as the ball sails over the blade.

In the air... but it lands in no man's land. Bashes the deck, following the batter as he backs away. Islam makes room and launches it down the ground. Only gets the height and not the distance. There is no one at mid off and the ball lands safely in front of the ropes. Two taken as the mid on fielder gives chase and hauls it in.

Out comes the short ball, around the right shoulder. Shoriful gets inside the line and ducks under it.

From over the wicket now, on a good length, landing outside the line of the leg stump. Taijul looks to play the line of the ball but gets an inside edge and it drops beside the strip on the leg side. They cross.

FOUR! Crunched. Pat pushes the length up, outside off. Taijul stays beside the line of the ball and extends his hands. He cracks the drive through covers and well away from the man at deep point to his left.

FOUR! Beautiful shot. Back of a length, going across off. Shoriful plays it on the rise as he extends his hands and punches it in front of square on the off side. The deep point fielder sprints to his left and dives but in vain.

That will sting. Hits the hard length, cramping the batter for room. Shoriful is rushed as he shapes up for the pull. Cops a blow on the arm guard on his left hand.

FOUR! Bangladesh go past 50. Cummins goes searching for the yorker at the stumps. It comes out as a low full toss. Shoriful is expecting another short ball, and he is deep in the crease. He backs away and clears the front leg. Just about gets his bat down and drives it back past the bowler for a four.

Switches to over the wicket and bangs it in short, tucking the batter up for room. Shoriful Islam moves towards the leg side and swings at it but fails to connect.

On the fuller side, angled in on middle. Islam stays back and pushes at the ball. Miscues it off the inner half to mid-wicket.

FOUR! Laced away to the fence and Bangladesh avoid being bowled out for their equal lowest Test total. Good-length delivery wide of the off stump, Taijul Islam plays an eye-catching square drive and gets it through the infield for a boundary.

Banged into the deck and angled at the batter. Islam defends it just to the leg side. The batters think about the single but decide aginst it.

Hazlewood comes around the wicket and slants the ball back in from outside off. Taijul throws the hands at it but fails to connect.

Short-pitched delivery over middle and off, Islam leans back and tries to play a cheeky late ramp but misses out.

Fuller this time and around off, drives firmly but straight to mid off.

Ooh, doesn't carry! Lovely line and length from Hazlewood, bowling it on a good length and angling it across off. Taijul Islam pushes at it and gets an outside edge in front of Steve Smith at second slip.

Another swing and a miss. Fuller in length, outside off. Islam ends up giving himself too much room. He swings for the hills but can only connect with thin air.

Ouch. Dishes out a bumper and angles it into the left-hander. Shoriful cannot duck under it quickly and gets hit on the left shoulder.

FOUR! Nicely done. On a hard length, on off. Shoriful Islam stands tall on his toes and gets his hands high to ride the bounce. Punches it square of the wicket through point and picks up a boundary. Bangladesh move to 43, level with their lowest Test score.

OUT! CAUGHT! Taskin Ahmed had made up his mind that he was going to take the short ball on, but it does not come off for him. Cummins digs it in short, over middle. Taskin backs away, exposing all three stumps. Gets his hands high and swings across for the pull. It is skied in front of square on the leg side. Matt Renshaw runs to his left from mid-wicket, settles under it and does the rest. Bangladesh are now 39/9, still 4 runs behind their lowest Test score of 43.

Into the wicket, on middle. Islam hops to fend it down.

Miscued but safe. On a hard length, on middle. Taskin tries to take it on but is rushed. Shovels it just over mid-wicket and ends up hitting the ball twice. Once off the splice of the blade before he makes contact with the ball again. He clears mid-wicket and picks up a single.

A big swing and a miss. Fuller and angled into the left-hander. Ahmed swings with all his might but is beaten on the inside edge.

What happened there? Josh Hazlewood seems to be suggesting that Taskin Ahmed intentionally got in the way, but the replays suggest that Taskin did try to get out of the way but just couldn't. Banged in short from around the wicket, on middle. Taskin makes room and swings at it. It is skied beside the strip on the leg side. As the ball goes up in the air, Taskin sets off for the single unaware of where the ball is. Seeing Hazlewood running towards him, Taskin stops and tries to turn around. Josh cannot get around the bowler and as a result, he cannot go for the catch. The ball ends up dropping well out of his reach.

Pitches it up, outside off. Taskin throws his hands at the ball but misses.

On the off pole, on a length. Taskin defends it out on the off side.

Honing in on the off stump, fuller in length. Taijul taps it to cover.

Alyssa Healy was just talking about how this pair might need to swing their bats around rather than risk copping a blow from a bouncer, and right on cue, Cummins delivers one. A sharp and quick bumper at 137.8 kph, Islam takes his eyes off the ball and ducks under it.

Back to over the wicket for the left-hander, hitting the good length, on middle. Taskin pats it down on the off side.

OUT! CAUGHT! The leg slip comes into play straight away. Along with the field change, Josh Hazlewood also changes his angle of attack as he comes from around the wicket. Bowls it on a back of a length, at the hips. Mahmud cannot resist the temptation of playing the glance. He works it away off the hips but straight into the waiting hands of Nathan Lyon at leg slip, who gobbles it up at waist height. Bangladesh are now 38/8, with 43 being their lowest Test score. It came against West Indies back in 2018.

Into the deck, it comes around the midriff but the line is a bit down leg. Hasan ducks under it.

Drifts on the pads with a length ball. Hasan brings his wrists into play and clips it to the left of deep fine leg for a couple of runs. Mitchell Starc tidies up in the deep.

Brings the line closer to the off stump and shortens the length too. Hasan has a feel for the ball before he opts to withdraw his bat.

Serves it full, outside off and there is still a bit of an away shape. Hasan offers no shot.

This kisses the deck and gathers pace. It also keeps rising on its way to the keeper, not close enough to make the batter play and Taijul shoulders arms.

Angled across the left-hander, on the fuller side. Islam pushes away from his body and is beaten past the outside edge.

Delivers it on a nagging length, on middle. Islam stabs it down on the off side.

OUT! EDGED AND GONE! Pat Cummins strikes early after the break. Mehidy Hasan Miraz got away with a few loose strokes in the first session but not this time. Cummins pushes the length up, around the off stump. Miraz pushes out well in front of his body and goes at it with hard hands. The wobble seam ball moves away enough to catch the outside edge, and there is a bit of lift off the deck as well. It travels quickly to third slip, where Beau Webster gets low to his right and takes a sharp catch.

Bowled on a good length, outside off. Miraz lets the ball come on. He is slightly squared up but manages to angle it down to gully.

Starts with the nip-backer, full in length, outside off. Miraz shoulders arms.

... DAY 1, SESSION 2 ...

Listless from the top order - It was a horrendous start for Bangladesh and after the high of that famous wins just a few days back, things came crashing down hard in the first session of the 2nd Test. The all-southpaw top four mustered up a total of 9 runs, that included three ducks. Mushfiqur Rahim and Mehidy Hasan Miraz provided temporary relief but Rahim fell too. Miraz has since then taken the mantle and kept the Aussies at bay for now. Let's hear from the man of the moment - Mitchell Starc admits that they were clearly not at their best last week in Darwin. Mentions that there had been plenty of talk about this surface being similar to the Gabba, and they cannot be too unhappy with how things have gone so far. Starc shares that the talk after the first Test was to bowl a little fuller and use the bouncer a bit more. He hopes they as a side can carry on the good work after Lunch. He also reveals that assistant coach James Franklin had a side game with the pacers around using the bumpers, and they have managed to tick that off already. When asked if the pitch has settled down, Starc says there is still a little bit of movement and expects the surface to get a little quicker and harden up as the game progresses, similar to what happens at the Gabba.

The Starc show - Right from ball one, Mitchell Starc was in the zone and picked up a wicket off the first ball of the Test match, setting the tone. However, what followed next was something special and inside his first 4 overs, he already had a five-wicket haul, making a big dent in the Bangladesh batting lineup. Pat Cummins followed it up with a tight spell himself and dismissed the opposition's most experienced batter, but the ball has started to go soft and Australia will hope they manage to end proceedings quickly in the second session.

LUNCH, DAY 1 - 2.02 am GMT - End of an action packed session of this second Test match and the Aussies have dominated proceedings after opting to bowl first. Bangladesh have it all to do in the post-Lunch session.

Bowled by going wide on the crease, on a nagging length, on middle. Miraz gets on his toes and dabs it to point. That will be Lunch on Day 1.

Switches his angle of attack as he comes from around the wicket. Zipping through at 140.1 kph, on a back of a length, outside off. Miraz stays beside the line of the ball and hangs his bat out. Gets beaten on the outside edge.

Pulls the length back, outside off, Miraz does not chase the ball and plays well inside the line to let the ball through.

Beaten again. On the fuller side, outside off. Miraz goes searching for the ball with his hands and his feet stay rooted to the crease. The ball misses his blade by a fair bit.

Hits the hard length at 142 kph, around off. Miraz gets on his toes and has a feel for the ball before it leaves him.

An absolute beauty! This is on a good length, angled in at the off stump before it straightens off the deck. Hasan shows the full face of the bat to play the original line of the ball. Gets beaten past the outside edge as it moves away off the seam.

Bashes the deck again, on middle and leg. Mahmud sits under it. Hazlewood smiles at the batter before turning around.

Into the wicket but this does not rise much and it is down leg. Hasan ducks under it.

Stays full, on middle. Mahmud brings his bat out in front and pushes it back to Hazlewood.

A hint of away shape, full and outside off. Mahmud gets closer to the line of the ball before making the leave.

At the sticks, on a length. Mahmud leans across and stabs it down on the leg side.

On the fuller side, attacking the front pad. Mahmud wrists it wide of mid-wicket and takes a single.

A late appeal for caught behind. Turned down by the umpire. There was no reaction from Mitchell Starc. Really full, pushed across the right-hander. Mahmud hurriedly gets his bat down to keep it out. The replays indicate that there was a gap between the bat and the ball, and the sound was of the bat hitting the ground.

This is on a hard length, outside off. Mahmud gets on his toes and tucks his bat inside the line of the ball to let it through.

FOUR! Nicely done. Fuller than the previous ball, and it swings back in, on off. Hasan lunges and presents a high elbow to play a punchy drive well to the right of mid off for a boundary.

Angled away, bowled on a length. Miraz extends his hands and drops it beside the strip on the off side. Single taken.

Bowled at 137 kph, angled away, on a length. Miraz is a bit tentative with his footwork and hangs his bat out. It squirts off the outer half to backward point, where the fielder makes a diving stop to his left.

Beats the bat straight away. This is angled across the right-hander, on a good length. Miraz has a slight poke at the ball, expecting the ball to come back in, but it goes away with the angle to beat him on the outside edge.

Goes past the bat. At 135.6 kph, full and outside off, moving away off the deck. Hasan is sucked into the drive and his feet go nowhere. He is lucky not to have nicked it behind.

This is bowled by going wide on the crease and it is angled in at the sticks. Miraz brings his bat out in front of the front pad to defend.

Drags the length back a bit and keeps it in the corridor of uncertainity, Mehidy offers no shot.

Pitches it up and gets the ball to curve away in the air, around off. Miraz pushes it towards cover.

Pitched a bit fuller now and on the sixth stump line, straightening a touch. Mahmud leaves it alone.

A skiddy bumper now, over middle and leg, Mahmud does well to duck under it.

Misfield! Hard length in the channel, Hasan Mahmud stays back and pokes at it. The ball rolls down to the left of point, where Marnus Labuschagne lets it through and concedes a couple of runs.

OUT! TIMBER! Straight through! Pat Cummins hits the perfect length, not all that full and lands it on off. Mushfiqur Rahim is drawn forward and looks to drive with a straight bat, but the ball hits the dirty seam and nips back in, going through bat and pad to shatter into the stumps. Rahim could have and should have done better, but that's classic Cummins for you. Bangladesh are now 21/6, and into the tail we go.

Cummins goes a touch fuller and brings the ball back into the stumps. Rahim gets the trigger movement going across the off stump and taps it to short mid-wicket.

Hard length from Pat, wide of the off stump, and there's a bit of extra lift on this one. Rahim shoulders arms.

And again! Too full and too wide outside off, shaping away. Miraz goes for the expansive cover drive but only connects with thin air.

That's loose from Mehidy. Full and well wide of the off stump, enticing the drive. Mehidy Hasan Miraz goes after it but the ball shapes away and is beaten by a mile.

Well bowled! Just back of a length, angled in again but this one straightens a touch. Mehidy Hasan Miraz has a flirt outside the off stump and manages to keep it down towards gully.

Short of a good length, angled in from outside off, this one doesn't rise much. Miraz hops back and pushes it out late towards point.

Similar line, but the length is pulled back by a few inches. Miraz prods and dabs it down towards point. Beau Webster has overstepped actually, and that's a big front-foot No Ball as well.

Not quite there for the drive, and Mehidy nearly gets chopped on. Full of a good length, in that corridor of uncertainty. Mehidy gets forward to play the cover drive but gets a big inside edge onto the pads.

Cummins goes wider on the crease and slants it into the pads. Miraz leans on to tuck it away but gets an inside edge onto the pad.

Banged in on a hard length, wide outside off, and angling away with extra bounce. Left alone.

Full and straight, Cummins looks for the late outswinger. Miraz gets forward and punches it straight back, albeit a bit uppishly and past the outstretched right hand of the bowler for a couple of runs.

Good length around the top of off, Mehidy gets onto the front foot and blocks it off.

Lovely delivery! The in-between length, just outside off and Cummins gets it to straighten sharply off the deck. Mehidy Hasan Miraz gets squared up and is beaten well past the outside edge.
