Massive afternoon up ahead - Australia have cleared one big hurdle, but the real test now begins. The question is, how many runs can they stack on top of their slender lead to genuinely put Bangladesh under the pump from here? Bangladesh, on the other hand, will look to clean up the tail in a hurry the moment they take the field, and with the ball still just four overs old, they will be eager to extract far more out of it than they managed earlier. The post-lunch session will commence at 3.10 am GMT. In conversation with Mehidy Hasan Miraz - Reflecting on a strong first session, Mehidy credits a touch of extra bounce for helping the bowlers, and says his own plan was simply to bowl in the right areas and keep the pressure on, all while keeping his approach uncomplicated. On being asked about whether he was specifically targeting the footmarks outside off for Starc to work with, he agrees to that. He says there were plenty of footmarks in that channel and he aimed to keep bowling there consistently while staying patient, rather than expecting a wicket every single over. On the team's disciplined bowling effort, Mehidy says conditions demanded exactly that kind of discipline, and he focused on maintaining the momentum throughout. He also heaps praise on the fast bowlers for their efforts, reiterating that his own approach was built around patience and hitting the good areas consistently. When he is asked about the side standing on the cusp of a historic moment, he points to weeks of solid practice and hard work as a group in the buildup. He calls this a huge opportunity, especially with the team touring Australia for just the second time in a long while, and believes a win here would mean a great deal for the country and every player involved.

Green eyes a ton to save Australia - Through all that, Green dug in for one of the most important knocks of his career. Despite wickets tumbling around him, he grafted hard, refused to budge, and ground out a well-earned fifty, his first in thirteen dig droughts. Towards the back end of the session, he finally found some support in Mitchell Starc, and the pair have now put together a gritty alliance of 36 runs. Not only has that partnership helped Australia wipe out the deficit, but it's also kept the embarrassment of an innings defeat firmly off the table. Green, unbeaten on 85, has now racked up his highest Test score at home, standing tall and showing the rest of the side the way under real pressure. Especially remarkable given he was staring down the barrel of being axed from the side not too long ago. This knock should buy him breathing room for at least the rest of this series, and might just have saved his berth for the plane to South Africa later in the year too.

Miraz stormed the trenches - Australia walked out with a 67-run deficit hanging over them, but Alex Carey and Cameron Green came out ready to dig a trench and defend it, seeing off the first half hour with proper dead bat resolve. The pitch, though, had a few demons of its own in the rough patches, and Bangladesh kept feeding spin from one end, with Mehidy Hasan Miraz the chief tormentor, turning the screws on the Aussies just as things were starting to look settled. Green and Carey had begun stitching together a handy partnership when Miraz snapped it at 56, then produced another couple of beauties to send Webster and Cummins packing, who were trying to man the trenches to hold the line alongside Green. Those quick wickets sent the hosts tumbling from 178/4 to 207/7, still 21 runs shy with the rough end of the stick firmly in their hands.

And the tourists are starting off with the spin of Taijul Islam. Green is on strike. A slip and silly point in place. Here we go...

What would a Bangladesh win mean? Still early days to jump to that conclusion. But that would mean losing against a side that lost each of their past two red-ball matches by an innings - to the might of Zimbabwe and to the tyros of a Cricket Australia XI. In historical terms, this would be an unexpected home defeat to rank with that to the West Indies in Brisbane in 2024. But if Australia are to turn things around from here, their middle and lower order need to unleash an epic rearguard. Say, at the very least another 150-200 runs from here. Looks very difficult but not impossible at all. So hop along as the first ball of this penultimate or the deciding day is not far away.

Technical deficiencies exposed - What the Bangladeshi bowlers have managed in these three days is expose batting vulnerabilities in the Aussie top order, still hunting for a decent start. The reason? Maybe it’s because the home batters are used to facing pace and bounce, and there’s precious little of either on this slow Darwin deck. There’s not much genuine heat in the Bangladeshi attack either. Hasan Mahmud, Ebadot, even Taskin - none of them are bowling bazookas. Mid-130s at best. But the execution has been spot on, relentless and disciplined. Having watched the tourists bat with firm technique and plenty of patience for three days, the contrast has been stark. Bangladesh trusted the basics - playing late, leaving well, building partnerships session by session. Australia, by comparison, have looked scratchy against modest pace, edges flying and footwork going missing at crucial moments.

On the brink of making history - Bangladesh have ticked off roughly 70 percent of what’s needed to script something unthinkable. They have absolutely earned every right to believe they can bundle the Aussies out without conceding that lead - especially given how well they have bowled throughout this match. They are undoubtedly in the stronger position, but wickets are what they need more urgently right now, more than the scoreline alone suggests. They will be aiming to run through this Aussie batting in the morning session itself, armed with Hasan Mahmud, who’s having the time of his life with 8 wickets already in the bag for the Test. But with the deck expected to do a fair bit more for the spinners as it wears, the likes of Mehidy and Taijul - who have had slim pickings so far - will need to earn their keep from here.

Final day? Well, it’s still 50-50 to come to that conclusion. Australia were still stuck over a hundred runs adrift when Smith copped his marching orders. But Alex Carey walked out to join Green, who incredibly rode his luck when an inside edge clipped his leg stump without so much as budging the bail, early in the evening session. The pair batted out the rest of the day without too much drama, and looking much assured. Carey (19) and Green (43) are the not-out pair, stitching together a valuable 39-run stand. And they will still fancy their chances of making Bangladesh bat again. But on a Darwin pitch turning more docile by the session, they will  need to bat out of their skins to set the tourists any kind of target worth defending - a scenario that would’ve sounded like a bad joke to anyone following the world’s number one side a week ago.

Kangaroos copping a hiding - It’s a fair dinkum rare sight, this - the Aussies getting done over for three days on the trot in their own backyard. The first two days were an out-and-out belting, with Bangladesh outbowling and outbatting the hosts at every turn. Moving Day offered them a little bit of daylight, a small ray of hope. Carey and Green fight to keep hopes alive - Following the top-order collapse, Alex Carey joined Cameron Green in the middle to steady the rocking ship. The duo showed immense resilience to survive the final testing hours of the day, stitching together an unbeaten 39-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Australia still trail by a significant margin, and it will require a sturdy effort from the lower order tomorrow to set Bangladesh a target that their bowlers can fight to defend.

Promising starts wasted - Barring Jake Weatherald, who perished for a duck in the opening exchanges, Australia's top-order batters managed to get themselves set but failed to capitalize. Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, and Travis Head all looked locked in during their respective stays at the crease. However, all three threw away promising starts, failing to convert them into the big scores that Australia desperately needed to bring things under control.

8.01 am GMT - STUMPS ON DAY 3 - Day 3 undoubtedly belonged to Bangladesh as the visitors firmly tightened their grip on the Test match. After frustrating the Australian bowlers early in the day to stretch their first-innings lead to a massive 228 runs, the Tigers turned up the heat with the ball. They ran through Australia’s top order with precision, leaving the hosts under immense pressure at 161 for 4 by the close of play, trailing by another 67 runs.

Experienced duo eyed for rescue - Following Head's dismissal, Steve Smith joined a solid-looking Labuschagne in the middle, and the pair safely guided Australia to the break with an unbeaten 14-run stand for the third wicket. Hasan Mahmud was the standout bowler for the visitors with both scalps, while Taskin Ahmed bowled with exceptional control and Ebadot Hossain proved to be a touch expensive. The upcoming final session of the day will heavily rely on Smith and Labuschagne, one of the most experienced duos in this Australian batting lineup. Their ability to grit it out and play a marathon innings is the absolute need of the hour for the home side, with Bangladesh currently shaping up as the clear frontrunners. We will be back with the final session on Day 3 at 5.32 am GMT.

Australia under pressure - Staring down a massive deficit, the Australian openers walked out with a clear intent to play the long game. Travis Head showed unusual restraint by giving himself plenty of time before hunting for boundaries, which was a major departure from his usual aggressive style. Unfortunately for the hosts, Jake Weatherald endured another rough outing, falling for a duck to Hasan Mahmud in just the second over of the innings. Head tried to stabilize the innings alongside Marnus Labuschagne, but after grinding out a 33-run partnership, Head unluckily chopped a delivery from Hasan back onto his stumps for 17.

Bangladesh folded for 426 - Resuming the session at 417 for 8, Bangladesh hoped to extend their massive advantage as Mehidy Hasan Miraz looked comfortable at the crease alongside a supportive Taskin Ahmed. However, Josh Hazlewood quickly disrupted those plans by breaking the stubborn resistance. Josh removed the well-set Miraz to secure his five-wicket haul before wrapping up the tourists' first innings for 426 by dismissing Ebadot Hossain. Hazlewood finished with a brilliant six-wicket haul, but Australia still faced a monumental 228-run first-innings deficit as they stepped out to bat for their second dig.

5.12 am GMT - TEA ON DAY 3 - Australia are on the back foot as they have been ever since Day 1 of this Test. At the Tea break, with the Australian scorecard reading 51 for 2 after 17 overs and them trailing by another 177 runs, things are looking bleak from the Aussie perspective.

Speared in on a fuller length, on middle, Marnus Labuschagne flicks it neatly towards deep mid-wicket for a single. And that will be TEA on Day 3 in Darwin!

SMITH SURVIVES A SCARE! That could have been a massive moment in the game, but he gets the review spot on. Overpitched and wide outside off, Smith chases it for an expansive cover drive, and it looks for all money like he's nicked it behind. Litton Das collects is safely, and Bangladesh are already up celebrating through a huge appeal for caught behind, with the finger going up almost instantly. But Smith wastes no time sending it upstairs, sensing the noise likely came from the bat brushing the ground rather than the ball, and replays back him up completely. UltraEdge shows a spike when the bat grazes the ground and the on-field decision is overturned.

OUT! CHOPPED ON! Hasan continues on his merry way, and that's his 8th wicket of this Test. Almost a carbon copy of Weatherald's dismissal earlier. A touch fuller than a length, just outside off, too close to cut really, but Head goes deep in the crease anyway and looks to carve it square through point. He would have been far better served driving that one on the front foot, and instead ends up chopping it back onto his own stumps off the inside edge. Head, clearly disappointed with himself, picks up the bail and places it gently back in the groove before trudging off toward the dressing room. A huge, huge blow for Australia here, Bangladesh firmly on top as the hosts slip to 37 for 2, still trailing by 191.

Mahmud gives chase from cover, sliding in to haul the ball back as it slows in the outfield, but replays show he has made contact with the ropes while still holding it, so it's a boundary after all.

EDGED AND DROPPED! Litton Das the guilty party this time. Heartbreak for Taskin. Hard length, nipping away from off, and Marnus Labuschagne is completely opened up trying to deal with it. He gets a fat outside edge, and the ball shoots flat to the right of the keeper. Litton Das initially shifts to his left, wrong-footed by the shot, then dives back to his right, but the ball bursts through his gloves and drops agonisingly close to first slip. Wait, never mind. UltraEdge later shows that it was off Labuschagne's back thigh pad, with no bat involved.

FOUR! Pistol-crack through the gap! Back of a length, outside the off stump line. Head hangs deep inside the crease and nails the square cut wide of backward point for the second boundary of the over. That's not the line you would want to bowl to someone like Head.

FOUR! That's bread and butter for Head. He finally gets off the mark. A long half-volley, wide outside off, Travis Head meets the ball right under his eyeline, leans in front and blasts it through cover and point for a cracking boundary. The deficit is now 212 runs for Australia.

Marnus Labuschagne offers no shot at it and leaves it. The ball comes back in and hits him on the flap of the back pad. An appeal from the tourists but the umpire turns it down. Najmul Hossain Shanto has a long chat with his bowler and the keeper, and eventually, he sends this upstairs for a review. Ball Tracking shows that the ball would have missed the stumps on height. Marnus Labuschagne survives a big scare, but he is under tremendous pressure here.
