Mitchell Starc misses his length as he hurls a knee-high full toss, at the batter, James Neesham gets cramped for room and gets hurried as he tries to heave it away. He does not time it well and has no option to return for the second run. Marnus Labuschagne swoops in quickly and releases the throw towards the batting end. Josh Inglis grabs it cleanly and stretches out with his left hand to disturb the woodwork. The replays show that the full-length dive by James Neesham was not enough for him to reach his ground.

Is that a run-out? It looks like James Neesham might be short of his crease and that could be game over for New Zealand. The replays roll in and they show that Josh Inglis did a great job of diving and getting to knock off the bails in time. Neesham's dive didn't save him and the decision of OUT comes up on the big screen.

A direct hit and Trent Boult was gone! Strac charges in from around the wicket and goes on a fullish length, at the stumps, Trent Boult moves leg side and stabs it towards extra cover. Marnus Labuschagne at long on, makes the mistake of charging in and has to back track eventually. He completes the catch but fails to release the ball before making contact with the ropes.

Is that a maximum? Marnus Labuschagne's body language certainly suggests that it is. The umpires go upstairs and the replays do show that Labuschagne's back heel was on the ropes just a fraction before he let go of the ball and it will be called a maximum.

Josh Hazlewood (8-0-57-2) is back on to bowl the crucial penultimate over.

Another low full toss, outside off, Trent Boult gets bat to ball and works it to deep cover. The batters decide to take a single and it will be Boult on strike at the start of the next over.

FOUR! Dead straight and picks up the much-needed boundary as well. Full and well outside off, slower too, James Neesham has to really reach for it but manages to keep his shape and generate enough power to thump it down the ground for a boundary.

Slower and banged into the deck around off, angling across. James Neesham tries to take it on but fails to get any bat on it and that's the third time Cummins has beaten Neesham with a similar delivery.

Full and at the pads, attacking the toes, Matt Henry clips it away wide of the man at fine leg and turns the strike over.

Mitchell Santner makes a bit of room as he tries to slog this one away as well but doesn't pick the googly. The ball gets sliced a mile high in the air and goes toward wide long on. Maxwell comes in a long way and settles under the ball to take it safely. Zampa gets his third wicket and a crucial one too.

FOUR! Just the start to the over James Neesham and New Zealand would have wanted. Short over leg stump and its pace on as well. Neesham picks up the length early and pulls it away in between deep mid-wicket and deep backward square leg for a boundary.

FOUR! Gets it through the gap and 10 runs come off that over. A fraction shorter around off, going across, Mitchell Santner goes on the back foot and uses quick hands to cut it wide of short third man for a boundary.

Good, positive running! Floated up on the pads, Mitchell Santner works it away in front of mid-wicket and picks up a brace.

Shorter again on middle and leg, James Neesham pulls it off the back foot down to long on for just another single. The 300 is now up for New Zealand.

Excellent change-up from Pat Cummins once again. Bowls it at just 121 clicks and into the pitch around off, rolling his fingers over the ball as well. James Neesham looks to pull but is left bamboozled.

OUT! CAUGHT! What a masterstroke from the Aussie skipper and that could be a game-clinching wicket right there. Pat Cummins stays over the wicket and takes pace off this one as well, bowling it a touch fuller and pushing it well across the off stump. Rachin Ravindra has to reach out a bit and force the lofted shot but he isn't quite in control and ends up skying it toward wide long off. Marnus Labuschagne settles himself just inside the fence and takes it reverse-cup as Ravindra is left inconsolable. Cummins rejoices and so do the Australia players and rightly so too.

New Zealand need 97 runs to win from 60 balls and the extra man allowed outside the inner ring should help Australia a bit in stemming the flow of boundaries. Drinks! Just as the Kiwi skipper departs, the players get a refreshment break and Australia have their noses in front at the moment. OUT! CAUGHT! It's that same combination of Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc that has done the trick again for Australia. Hazlewood comes from over the wicket to the right-hander and bowls it back of a length in the channel. The ball shapes away a touch and Will Young is caught on the crease, ending up pushing at it with hard hands. The ball gets a bit of zip off the deck and takes the outside edge before going into the waiting hands of Mitchell Starc at short third man. New Zealand have now lost both their openers.

A big shout from behind the stumps but it is turned down. Pat Cummins has a long word with his players and decides to go for the review early on. Josh Hazlewood comes from around the stumps now and serves it on a good length close to the off stump. OUT! CAUGHT! Straight to the man and that marks the end of a fast and furious first innings. Matt Henry bangs this one in short around middle and leg stump. Mitchell Starc takes it on and pulls it flat toward the deep square leg fence. James Neesham over there settles himself just inside the ropes and takes an assured catch right around his face. Australia lose the last four wickets for just one run, getting bundled out in the process as well but they finish with a mammoth total of 388 runs on the board.

OUT! LBW! Looks plumb but Pat Cummins has taken the review here. Trent Boult stays over the wicket and nails the yorker around middle stump. Cummins walks right across the stumps looking to flick it fine but misses the ball completely and gets struck in front. The review is taken more in hope than anything and three reds come up on Ball Tracking as Cummins is already walking back. A very fiery cameo from the skipper comes to an end.

Trent Boult comes from around the stumps and looks for the wide yorker but misses his mark and bowls it a bit in the slot. Inglis gets right across the off stump and looks to launch it over long on. OUT! CAUGHT AND BOWLED! Tentative from David Warner and the golden arm of Glenn Phillips has finally put an end to the carnage from the Aussie openers. Phillips comes from around the stumps and floats this one up nice and full on off stump. Warner looks to come down the pitch but hesitates and ends up looking to force the lofted shot from his crease. The ball comes off the inner half and goes to the right of the bowler. Phillips sticks out both hands to the right of his face and takes a simple catch. Warner departs for a well-made 81 off just 65 balls.

Short this time and around off, David Warner stays put and punches it through mid on. He retains the strike with a single.

On the pads, cramping the batter for room, Travis Head stays back and works it through backward square leg for another easy single.

Full and fired in at the stumps, David Warner pushes it down to long on for another single.

FOUR! Switches to around the wicket and bowls it short and wide. The ball sits up for the batter Travis Head flat-bats it off the back foot in between mid off and extra cover for a boundary.

That could have gone really bad for Daryl Mitchell in the deep but he saves a couple of runs for his side. Drifting down leg, Travis Head gets inside the line and helps it down to the left of fine leg where Mitchell comes around and gets his knee stuck in the turf but saves the boundary.

Pulls the length back and bowls it around off, David Warner goes on the back foot but can't get it past a diving James Neesham at point.

Gives it a bit more air and bowls it around off. Warner looks to use his feet but opts to defend it out.

Full and quick into the pads, David Warner stays put and works it 'round the corner for a couple of more runs.

FOUR! Breaking the shackles! Travis Head is quick to come down the pitch and makes the length a lot fuller, allowing him to hit through the line and thump it over the bowler's head for a boundary.

Flatter trajectory, bowled at a brisk pace and into the body. Travis Head gets cramped for room but manages to tuck it toward mid-wicket.

Drinks break! Wow, no one saw this coming! This has been quite the start for Australia with Travis Head and David Warner going great guns. On what looks like a batting paradise, the sky is the limit for Australia with all ten wickets intact. On the other hand, nothing has gone New Zealand's way in the first 17 overs. The spinners have done well to dry up the boundaries in the last few overs but these are still ominous signs for them. Tom Latham will want to regroup and reassess his team's plans during this break and restart with a fresh approach.

We are inching closer to the first ball of the game but first, the two sets of players will line up for their respective national anthems. It will be the national anthem of New Zealand first followed by the national anthem of Australia.

Australia's captain Pat Cummins says that they are fine batting first. Mentions that it looks like a good wicket and it might have something early for the bowlers. Feels that the surface might slow up later. Informs that Travis Head returns to the side and Cameron Green is the unfortunate one to miss out. Adds that anyone in their squad has a role to play but Head has had an awesome record. States that New Zealand are a side they know really well and the Kiwis know them well as well. Reckons that it is about how they can play today. Also says that they have not played a day game and will have a first look with the bat.

Tom Latham, the captain of New Zealand, says that they will bowl first and adds that it looks like a reasonable surface and there might be something early on for the bowlers. Mentions that last time around, it was a day/night game, so it's all about assessing the conditions. Informs that Mark Chapman is out due to a calf niggle and James Neesham comes in to replace him. Adds that there is a bit of support from the family here which is nice to see and ends by saying that they will look to do their best and better their record against Australia in World Cups.
