The skipper of Bangladesh, Najmul Hossain Shanto is also the Player of the Match for his match-winning innings of 53 in 38 balls. He is up for a quick chat and says that the boys showed character today and bowled brilliantly. Adds that the credit goes to all the bowlers and not just one. Mentions that Litton Das and Soumya Sarkar did well at the top and this comes as a proper team game that a skipper loves.

Charith Asalanka the skipper of Sri Lanka says they fell short of 20-25 runs which took the game away. Mentions that as batters they have to adapt and put up good scores to give their bowlers something to play for considering how difficult it is to bowl here. Concludes that Bangladesh batters batted well and deserved the win.

Stay tuned for the presentation ceremony ...

Earlier in the game, after being asked to bat first, Sri Lanka started with a maiden as Avishka Fernando struggled against Shoriful Islam in the first over and soon departed in the second. Kamindu Mendis walked out at 3 and was off to a blistering start. The duo then managed to score freely in the middle. Kusal Mendis and Kamindu Mendis added 66 for the second wicket. The visitors lost three quickly by a good partnership of 53 at the end helped them post a fighting total. Barring Avishka Fernando and Sadeera Samarawickrama every batter got starts but failed to make them count by going big. The bowling from Bangladesh was good as they held to their plans and bowled in that in-between channel with variations. Shoriful Islam, Mahedi Hasan, Soumya Sarkar and Mustafizur Rahman took a wicket each.

The bowlers of Sri Lanka did start nicely but lost the plot by leaking runs on both sides of the park. The target was one they could have put up a better fight for but the arrival of dew did not help them either. Matheesha Pathirana picked up a couple and looked the best of the lot but he was later carried off in the middle of his over with a suspected hamstring issue that comes as a scare for the Lankans.

Chasing down a tricky total, Bangladesh were off to a blistering start with Soumya Sarkar and Litton Das managing to tonk the Lankan bowlers all around the park. The duo extracted 63 off the powerplay and went on to add 68 for the first wicket partnership. The Lankans were doing well till a controversial call from the third umpire came to the aid of Soumya Sarkar and he was given not-out on what looked like an edge back to the keeper. The batter took the aggressive route afterward and scored freely. The third-wicket partnership of 87 between Towhid Hridoy and Najmul Hossain Shanto sealed the deal for the hosts. Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto was the top scorer for the side as he scored 53 and saw his side home.

Dominant Bangladesh level the series as they win this with 8 wickets and 11 deliveries left in the bank.

Commentary

We are back with the chase! The two umpires walk out to the middle followed by the Sri Lankan fielders who take their positions on the field. It will be Litton Das and Soumya Sarkar who will open the innings for Bangladesh. Angelo Mathews has the new ball in hand and is raring to go. Let's play says the umpire and here we go..

... THE RUN CHASE ...

On the flip side, Bangladesh made a stellar start to the game, with Shoriful Islam delivering a fantastic maiden over to kick off proceedings. Taskin Ahmed then struck early, claiming the wicket of opener Avishka Fernando with just 1 run on the board. However, the bowlers struggled to maintain their accuracy, allowing Sri Lanka to settle in and build a strong partnership. It was Soumya Sarkar who provided the breakthrough in the 9th over, removing the crucial wicket of Kusal Mendis. In the following over, Bangladesh's sharp fielding and quick thinking led to the dismissal of Kamindu Mendis. Mustafizur Rahman further dented Sri Lanka's batting lineup by removing the dangerous Sadeera Samarawickrama while Mahedi Hasan struck at a crucial moment to dismiss skipper Charith Asalanka. With a target of 166 runs to chase and the possibility of dew setting in, Bangladesh faces a challenging but achievable task. While the target may not seem daunting, they will need to put up a strong batting performance to save the series. Will they be able to do so? Let's find out as the chase comes to you in a bit.

Sri Lanka, after being put into bat first, encountered a rocky start with a quiet maiden over followed by the early dismissal of opener Avishka Fernando in the second over. However, the Mendis duo, Kusal and Kamindu, launched a counterattack, guiding their team to 49 runs by the end of the powerplay. Just as they seemed to be building a formidable partnership, both batsmen fell after making promising starts. Sadeera Samarawickrama struggled to find his rhythm and soon departed as well. The onus then fell on skipper Charith Asalanka, who took the attack to the opposition, but his aggressive approach led to his dismissal too. It was the 6th wicket partnership of 53 runs between Angelo Mathews and Dasun Shanaka that helped Sri Lanka to a decent total of 165 runs on the board.

A solid partnership between Dasun Shanaka and Angelo Mathews propelled Sri Lanka to a respectable total of 165 runs. While they managed to post a competitive score, Bangladesh will likely be the happier side heading into the break, given their strong performance in restricting Sri Lanka's batting lineup.

We are set for play to begin in the 2nd T20I of this 3-match series. Kusal Mendis and Avishka Fernando are the openers for Sri Lanka while Shoriful Islam will bowl the first over for Bangladesh.

Farveez Maharoof is down for the pitch report. He says it's pitch number 7 and is brand new with lots of grass on it, the grass is very thick on the top and the deck has even grass covering than the previous game. Adds that it will be the first 6 overs to be targeted by the pacers to extract some extra bounce and for spinners it will be difficult and they will have to bowl slower to extract something. Concludes that the dew will play a factor in the second innings and the teams will look for an extra pacer.

The skipper of Sri Lanka, Charith Asalanka says they would have fielded first as well. Adds that they leaked a bit too many extras in the first T20I and would be looking to improve on that. Informs that they have one change as Dilshan Madushanka comes in for Akila Dananjaya.

The skipper of Bangladesh, Najmul Hossain Shanto elects to bowl first and says the dew factor along with movement with the ball early on is the reason why they are bowling first. Adds that he feels happy about how the first game went despite losing that game. Mentions they need to improve their batting. Informs they are going unchanged.

Sri Lanka (Playing XI) - Avishka Fernando, Kusal Mendis (WK), Kamindu Mendis, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Charith Asalank (C), Angelo Mathews, Dasun Shanaka, Maheesh Theekshana, Dilshan Madushanka (replaces Akila Dananjaya), Binura Fernando, Matheesha Pathirana.

Bangladesh (Playing XI) - Najmul Hossain Shanto (C), Litton Das (WK), Soumya Sarkar, Towhid Hridoy, Mahmudullah, Jaker Ali, Mahedi Hasan, Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, Rishad Hossain.

TOSS - Bangladesh have won the coin flip and they have decided to BOWL first.

On the other side, despite individual brilliance showcased by many players in recent outings, the Bangladeshi team has struggled to translate their talents into a cohesive team effort. As they head into this must-win encounter to keep the series alive, they will be keen on fine-tuning the smaller aspects of their game. The opening partnership of Litton Das and Soumya Sarkar will hold the key to shaping the team's batting performance, with their contributions pivotal in setting a strong foundation. However, the bowling unit remains a concern, yet to find its rhythm. The responsibility falls heavily on the shoulders of Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed to lead the bowling attack and inspire the team to a standout performance. In what promises to be a thrilling showdown, will the Bangla Tigers muster the resolve to level the series, or will the Sri Lankans deliver another blow to clinch the series? We shall find out shortly as the Toss and team news comes to you in a bit.

Sri Lanka arrive at this pivotal juncture with commendable recent successes, exuding confidence and riding high on winning momentum. While their batting lineup has been a force to reckon with, the team acknowledges the need for greater support from their bowling contingent to secure victories convincingly. Skipper Charith Asalanka has demonstrated astute leadership, guiding his team with aplomb, supported well by Sadeera Samarawickrama and Kusal Mendis who have been consistent. In the bowling department, Sri Lanka places heavy reliance on the seasoned campaigner Angelo Mathews, whose notable resurgence has bolstered the squad's depth. However, to achieve victory in this crucial encounter, Mathews will require additional support from the likes of Maheesh Theekshana and Matheesha Pathirana. With a triumph here, the visitors have the opportunity to clinch the series and go 2-nil up heading into the final game.

Greetings and a warm welcome to match number 2 of this thrilling three-match T20I series between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, all set to unfold at the magnificent Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet. In an exhilarating opener, the visitors clinched a nail-biting victory in a high-scoring contest, edging past the hosts by just 3 runs, thereby taking a 1-0 lead in the series.
