Commentary
We are back for the chase! The players are already out in the middle now. Sanju Samson, who already has a hundred against the Delhi Capitals this season, will open the innings alongside his skipper, Ruturaj Gaikwad. It will be Mitchell Starc to start proceedings with the ball. A slip in place as well. Here we go...
... THE RUN CHASE ...
Looking ahead - CSK were exceptionally disciplined with the ball, so much so that the first extra didn't come until the 16th over of the innings. Anshul Kamboj, who has otherwise been remarkable across phases, was found out with his wide yorker plan at the death. A challenging task now awaits Chennai on what is a tricky surface. Axar Patel had expected the wicket to slow down, and if that happens, it could make the chase even tougher for CSK. Stick around for the chase.
A quick word - CSK's Gurjapneet Singh is in for a chat. Singh says that the wicket is a bit sticky and they were just looking to bowl around that hard length and get the most out of the deck. Singh says that they were looking to be disciplined, and that paid off at the end. Singh concludes by saying that they looked to be restricting DC for 140-145, but they'll take this score.
From struggle to surge - After opting to bat first, the DC openers found it tough to get going in the Powerplay, highlighted by the 22 dot balls in that phase. The good work done in the Powerplay was carried seamlessly into the middle overs by the CSK bowlers. They did not allow partnerships to develop and made full use of the conditions. Dropped early on 1, Tristan Stubbs stitched together a crucial 65-run stand to revive the innings with the Impact Sub, Sameer Rizvi, for company. Late fireworks from Rizvi and Ashutosh Sharma took them past 150 from being 69/5 when 155 looked a long way away.
A fine finish for the Capitals - 49 runs came off the last 3 overs, and that has allowed Delhi to post a fighting total. It was a grind for most part of their innings on a sticky wicket, but that late flourish has meant that they will carry that momentum into the break. On the other hand, the Chennai Super Kings will be a bit disappointed with the finish, having had the home side in check going into the death overs.

SIX! Wow..that is exactly what DC needed to finish their innings! Kamboj serves this fuller and on off, Sameer Rizvi shuffles a bit in his crease, gets right under the ball and pumps it over the long off fence for a biggie. Delhi Capitals end with 155/7!
Mitchell Starc is in next, but it will be Sameer Rizvi on strike for the final ball.
OUT! ASHUTOSH SHARMA IS RUN OUT! Anshul Kamboj serves this fuller and on off, Ashutosh Sharma crouches low and bunts it towards mid off. The batters had to go for the run, but Ruturaj Gaikwad collects the ball at mid on and scores a direct hit at the bowler's end with Sharma nowhere near the crease. He has done his job with a quick cameo, and DC are 149/7 now.
Direct hit! Ashutosh Sharma looks short, and he indeed is.
SIX! Superb shot! Anshul Kamboj misses his length and bowls a full toss, outside off. Ashutosh Sharma steps across early. He just opens the face of his bat and carves it over the deep point fence for another biggie.
And again! In the blockhole, outside off, Sameer Rizvi moves across, gets low but miscues his drive off the toe-end down the pitch. The batters set off the run as Kamboj runs to the ball but kicks it wide of the stumps at the batter's end.
Gets the yorker right this time, on off, Ashutosh Sharma swings but gets an inside edge onto his pads as the ball rolls to the off side. A quick single taken.
SIX! How has he done that? Anshul Kamboj goes for the yorker, at the stumps, but serves a full toss. Ashutosh Sharma gets on one knee, but he realises he is too far away from the ball. He lets go of his top hand and swings off the bottom hand over the fine leg fence for a biggie.
Time for the final over. Anshul Kamboj (3-0-29-0) to close out the innings. Jamie Overton has gone off the park.

At the sticks, on a good length, Ashutosh Sharma walks inside the line and plays the scoop down to deep fine leg for a single.
Out goes Tristan Stubbs and in walks Ashutosh Sharma.
OUT! CAUGHT! Jamie Overton gets a wicket now. He bowls a good bumper into the body of the batter. Tristan Stubbs gets inside the line to hook it away, but fails to get on top of the bounce. He mistimes the shot straight to fine leg, where Mukesh Choudhary does not have to move an inch and takes a good catch just ahead of the ropes.
What happened there? Fuller one and on middle, holds its line. Sameer Rizvi looks to whip it across the line but gets a leading edge. The ball goes miles in the air and Jamie Overton calls for it after turning around. However, the ball swirls in the wind and Overton gets nowhere near the ball. It ends up dropping in front of him in the short mid on region. A single taken.
Short of a length and on middle, Tristan Stubbs pulls it to deep mid-wicket for another run. So far, so good from Overton!
Just short! Bangs this into the pitch, on off, Sameer Rizvi gets hurried on his pull and miscues it off the upper half of the bat. The fielder at mid off runs forward but fails to reach it. They cross.
Back of a length and on middle, Tristan Stubbs heaves it off the inner half of the bat to deep square leg for a single.
A productive over for DC. A very real possibility of them pushing past 150 from here. Jamie Overton has been given the ball for the 19th over.

SIX! Sameer Rizvi repeats the dose! He gets down and across early, anticipating the wide yorker. Anshul Kamboj obliges but just misses his length, serving a full toss. Rizvi is already in position and helps it on its way over the deep fine leg fence for half a dozen more. 14 runs off the over.
Another fine yorker, outside off near the tramline, Tristan Stubbs jams it out to the off side for just one.
Pitched up and outside off, Sameer Rizvi moves across early, reaches out and forces it towards sweeper cover for a single.
SIX! Gets hold of that one! Anshul Kamboj tries the wide yorker again, around off. Sameer Rizvi is expecting that. He gets down and across, makes it a full toss and swipes it over the deep backward square leg fence for a biggie. That also brings up the 50-RUN STAND between these two batters.
Nails the wide yorker, outside off, Sameer Rizvi throws his bat at it but misses again.
Dot to start the over! Fuller and just outside off, angles away, Sameer Rizvi stays deep in his crease and tries to reverse scoop but fails to connect.
Anshul Kamboj (2-0-15-0) returns to the attack. The field is set for the wide yorker, with the leg side boundary being the shorter of the two square boundaries.
Commentary
Moving on - Right then, that is it from this rather one-sided affair, where Chennai Super Kings got the crucial two points while Delhi Capitals left empty-handed. The action now moves to Hyderabad, where two in-form sides coming off losses, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings, face off at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on 6th May, Wednesday. The game is set to begin at 7.30 pm (2 pm GMT), and as always, you can join us early for all the build-up. Until then, cheers and goodbye!
PLAYER OF THE MATCH - It is Sanju Samson for his unbeaten, match-winning knock of 87 runs off 52 balls. He says that the fans call him Chetta, but he likes Sanju more. Samson says that they always try to find out what works best, and he has improved a bit on his initial movement over the past few years. He adds that he is always calm, and that his game plan was to capitalise in the middle overs, and it worked for them this time. Sanju reckons that he wanted to get to his hundred, but he kept his team first, and the priority was to win the game. Ends by saying he hopes to get another hundred in this tournament again.
The skipper of the Chennai Super Kings - Ruturaj Gaikwad says that even after the second and third games, the talk within the group was always positive. Mentions that they have pretty much covered all bases as a team, highlighting the strength added by Sanju Samson coming in and the middle order they possess. Gaikwad feels that they just needed a couple of wins to build momentum, and once they got those after the third game, the team started to gel together nicely. Ruturaj says Sanju Samson is the backbone of their batting unit. Adds that bowling wins tournaments, highlighting the presence of Akeal, Overton, and Anshul Kamboj. On Kartik Sharma, the CSK captain says the skillset was always there, and he just needed a few opportunities. Feels he didn’t get enough time in earlier games, but now that he has, he has shown he is not just a slogger.
Presentation Time...
A quick chat - CSK's Kartik Sharma says he really enjoyed the partnership with Sanju Samson. Mentions that the spinners got some help, with the ball stopping and turning a bit. Kartik says that they knew it wasn’t a big total, so they could take their time. Shares that Sanju Samson told him to play his natural game. Says he looked to play his shots whenever the opportunity presented itself, without targeting any particular bowler.
The captain of the Delhi Capitals - Axar Patel says that they thought 155 was a good score considering how the wicket was. He adds that there was something in the wicket, but CSK had a set batter, Sanju Samson, which made things difficult for them. The wicket was difficult to bat on for a new batter. Axar reckons that they finished well with the bat despite losing early wickets, so it's a positive for them. He says that he missed Kuldeep's brilliant bowling, and ends by saying that they will try to win their remaining games and stay in the hunt for the playoffs.
Inconsistent bowling cost DC - Delhi Capitals made a promising start, with Lungi Ngidi striking early and restricting Chennai Super Kings to 44/1 in the Powerplay. However, they failed to build on that momentum and couldn’t chip in with wickets at regular intervals, while Axar was impressive with 1/25, and both Starc and Ngidi kept things tight. Kuldeep Yadav and T Natarajan, however, proved expensive and allowed the pressure to slip, making it even tougher to defend what was already a below-par total.
DC fight back to go past 150 - Earlier in the game, Delhi Capitals were in deep trouble at 69/5 but fought back brilliantly to post a competitive total, with Tristan Stubbs and Impact Sub Sameer Rizvi adding a crucial 65-run stand. Rizvi top-scored with a quick 40 off 24, and a late push from Ashutosh Sharma helped them get past 150. Chennai Super Kings were solid with the ball, especially their spinners, who combined for 3/41 in 7 overs. Overton, Gurjapneet Singh and Mukesh Choudhary chipped in with a wicket each, but their in-form bowler Anshul Kamboj had an off day and was taken to the cleaners.
A match-defining stand seals it for CSK - It was not a daunting target for Chennai Super Kings, but they were dealt an early blow yet again with the loss of their skipper in the Powerplay. Sanju Samson, though, carried on his fine form, blending composure with calculated aggression to hold the innings together. Urvil Patel added a handy cameo, but the defining moment came through the unbeaten 114-run stand between Samson and Kartik Sharma, a partnership that effectively shut the door on Delhi Capitals. Samson capped off a fine effort with a well-crafted half-century and remained unbeaten on 87 off 52. The duo kept things firmly under control, timing their attacks smartly to ensure there were no late hiccups, with Kartik once again finishing things off by hitting the winning runs, just like he did against the Mumbai Indians.
Super Kings march on - Chennai Super Kings have completed the double over Delhi Capitals, with Sanju Samson once again playing a key role in their success, as they extend their already strong head-to-head record to 21-12 against the home side, making it two consecutive wins for CSK as they move into double digits for the season and stay within touching distance of the teams above them. Delhi Capitals slump to their fourth defeat in the last five games, a result that further dents their already fading playoff hopes.
FOUR! Kartik Sharma finishes the game off with authority! A bit short, on off and middle. Sharma stands tall and gets on top of the bounce. He thumps it hard and wide of the mid on fielder to his left for a boundary to seal the win. Kartik points to the dugout and punches the air in delight. Chennai ace a tricky chase in Delhi. CSK win by 8 wickets with 15 balls to spare.
SIX! High and long enough! On the off stump, on a good length. Kartik Sharma stays deep in the crease with an open stance. He goes down the ground, and although this does not come from the middle of the bat, he gets enough bat to clear the long on fielder. The scores are level.
Skidding through, fractionally short, just outside the off pole. Kartik Sharma crouches for the pull but misses. The ball sneaks just past the off stump.
Mitchell Starc finishes his spell with figures of 4-0-30-0. Just 7 needed now. Chennai Super Kings will try to finish the game in this over. T Natarajan comes into the attack.

Just out of reach! Full and at the sticks from around the wicket. With mid off inside the circle, Samson swings through the line of the ball. The bat turns in his hand and he slices it over mid off. Axar Patel turns around and goes after it but the ball drops out of his reach. Axar manages to haul it in, preventing the boundary. Two runs taken.
Drifting onto the pads, bowled on a length. Kartik nurdles it behind square leg and turns the strike over. 9 more needed for CSK.
Low full toss, outside off. Samson extends his hands and carves it to deep point. They cross.
Hits the back of a length, on off, Sharma hangs on the back foot and dabs it in front of backward point. With this single, the 100-run stand comes up between this pair.
FOUR! Up and over! Starc goes searching for the yorker but misses the mark by a small margin. This is in line with the off stump and Kartik Sharma gets the leverage to get under the ball. He winds up and goes inside out over cover for a boundary.
Nails the yorker, outside the off stump. Kartik Sharma gets his bat down and angles it to the right of deep third with an open bat face for a couple of runs.
Strategic Break! Chennai Super Kings are in the driver's seat now, and they can now even think about finishing things quickly to help their NRR. Sanju Samson is batting like a dream, while Kartik Sharma has played the perfect supporting role. Delhi Capitals will need a miracle, and all they can do is delay the inevitable. Here is Mitchell Starc to bowl now.

FIFTY FOR SAMSON! A fine knock from him, and he follows up a hundred against DC earlier in the season with a half-century. Flighted, full and on off, Sanju Samson eases it down to long off for a single. He will want to stay till the end and take his side home.

A googly, full and around off, turns away, Kartik Sharma gets forward but plays well inside the line of it. It goes behind, where KL Rahul breaks the stumps and appeals, but nothing doing.
STRATEGIC BREAK! The game is interestingly poised, with a real contest between bat and ball, something we haven't seen too often this season. The importance of spending time in the middle is starting to show for Sanju Samson, and his role will be crucial in this chase for CSK. On a surface like this, it may take some time for a new batter to get accustomed to the pace and bounce. DC do not have a sixth bowling option, having used Sameer Rizvi as an Impact Sub, which meant the leggie Vipraj Nigam could not be included. They have three overs of Kuldeep Yadav up their sleeve, along with an over of Axar Patel, which could prove decisive from here.

FOUR! Kartik Sharma gets off the mark with a boundary! Axar Patel goes shorter, on middle and leg, Kartik Sharma rocks back and pulls it in the gap through mid-wicket for a magnificent boundary. 107 needed from 78 balls now.
Full and on middle, that is defended solidly off the front foot.
Quicker, on off, Kartik Sharma blocks it to the cover fielder.
Sharp piece of keeping from KL Rahul and DC get another breakthrough. Kartik Sharma, fresh from a fifty in the last game, comes out to the middle now. A slip in place for him.
OUT! STUMPED! That is brilliant bowling from Axar Patel. Quicker, just outside off, with a hint of turn. Urvil Patel moves a bit forward and looks to drive it, but misses it completely. The ball beats the outside edge and goes towards KL Rahul, who whips the bails off in a flash. The umpire goes upstairs to have a check. Nothing on the UltraEdge. The replay shows that Urvil Patel's back leg was in the air when the bails were off. Urvil Patel's cameo comes to an end. Chennai Super Kings are 45/2 after 6.3 overs now.
Stumped? KL Rahul looks very confident, and Urvil Patel has already started to walk back. However, the on-field umpires want to make sure and send it upstairs. UltraEdge shows no bat involved, and the replay shows that Patel's back foot is in the air when Rahul breaks the stumps.
Flatter, on middle and leg, Sanju Samson turns it to mid-wicket for a single.
Nice and full, on off, Sanju Samson pushes it to the left of the bowler.
A good end to the Powerplay for CSK! They have gone just ahead of DC at this stage, but this game will be decided by how both these teams play in the middle overs.

Nearly two in two! Goes wide on the crease and angles it in, on a good length, around the off stump. Urvil Patel pushes out in front with a straight bat but is beaten as the ball straightens to go past the blade.
Early blow for CSK! Urvil Patel walks out to bat at number 3.
OUT! IN THE AIR AND GONE! The CSK skipper falls cheaply. Lungi Ngidi strikes on his return from that awful accident. Cross-seam ball at 136.4 kph, on a length, on middle. Gaikwad plants his front foot across and looks to play the pick-up shot off the pads. Gaikwad takes on the deep square leg fielder, but he is through his shot early. He fails to get any power on the shot and picks out Sameer Rizvi in the deep, who bends and takes the catch around his knee. CSK are 24/1, chasing 156.
Delivers it full, on middle. Samson wrists it wide of mid-wicket. Ashutosh Sharma moves to his right and dives, keeping the batters down to a single.
Fuller at 139.4 kph, on middle. Sanju stays leg side of the ball and angles the drive to cover.
Leg bye! Fractionally short, on middle. Gaikwad swivels for the pull but the ball goes under his bat and raps him on the thigh. A leg bye is taken as the ball goes in front of point.
Half a shout for LBW! There were two sounds and the appeal has been turned down. Begins from over the wicket and goes wide on the crease. Attacking the front pad with a good-length delivery. Gaikwad ekes out an inside edge onto the front pad.
Change? Yes, Lungi Ngidi replaces his skipper. Good to see him back on the field after an injury scare a couple of games ago.

Well beaten! Full and wide on off, Samson stays rooted to the crease and just goes searching for the ball with his hands, only to miss.
Tight single! In line with the off pole, on a good length. Gaikwad plays it close to his body and drops it with soft hands beside the strip on the off side. Pathum Nissanka gets to the ball in a flash from cover and releases an underarm throw at the bowling end on the dive. He misses but Gaikwad was home anyway.
FOUR! Off the edge! This is full, outside off. Ruturaj Gaikwad's feet go nowhere and just pushes away from his body. Gets a thickish outside edge and it goes uppishly but right through the gap between short third and a fine backward point.
And again, this time, it is Pathum Nissanka. Fuller and on off, Samson taps it away to cover, where Pathum Nissanka flings himself to his left and makes a half-stop. It is parried away to the deep fielder. Just a single.
Fine effort! Starc hits the back of a length, on off. Sanju rides the bounce and angles it behind point with an open bat face. Sameer Rizvi dives to his right and sticks out his right hand to make the stop. It would have been a boundary if not for the stop.
Wide! Starc goes full in search of swing but sprays it well outside the tramline. Samson lets it be.
Lands it on a good length, Samson waits back and makes use of the angle to glide it to short third.

Pushed through, on a good length, on middle. Ruturaj Gaikwad advances and plays it back to Axar.
FIVE WIDES! That has beaten everyone! Axar follows Gaikwad as he backs away, on the shorter side. Ruturaj misses out on the glance. KL Rahul is unsighted by the batter standing in front of him. He stands no chance of making a stop as the ball beats him to his left and races into the fence.
Short and on middle, Gaikwad cuts it to cover.
Short and on off, that is punched off the back foot to cover. The batters wait for the ball to beat the fielder but Nitish Rana moves swiftly to his right to cut it off.
Uppish but safe! Slower through the air, on a good length, on off. Samson looks to push it down the ground with a straight bat. Chips it uppisly but well away from Axar to his left.
SIX! Lovely shot! Sliding on with the arm, on a length, on middle. Samson stays leg side of the ball and opens up the front hip. He gets his hands through the ball and goes inside out over cover with a high elbow for a six.

A flash and a miss! Angling away, on a hard length. Gaikwad throws his hands at the ball but connects with thin air.
DC lose their review! Starc pushes the length up, on middle and leg. Gets the ball to curve back into the right-hander. Samson presses half-forward and is on his heel while trying to flick it away. The ball sneaks under the toe end of the blade to catch him low on the front pad. The batters cross over for one. A loud shout for LBW, but turned down. Axar Patel walks up to the bowler and takes the review in the nick of time. The UltraEdge comes up with a scratch when the ball is near the toe of the bat. The on-field decision is upheld.
Is that out? Axar Patel sends it upstairs for an LBW decision, not given on the field. It looks pretty close to the naked eye if there is no bat involved. However, UltraEdge shows a spike when the ball is next to the bat. The on-field call of NOT OUT stands.
Another one that goes across, bowled on a length. Gaikwad stays leg side and guides it through point for a single to get off the mark.
Pitched up at 143.1 kph, outside off. Gaikwad extends his hands and punches it away but can't beat Pathum Nissanka at cover.
Drags the length back and hits the top of off. Gaikwad gets on his toes and steers it to backward point. Samson was keen for a single but is sent back in time.
Samson and CSK are underway! Pushed across the right-hander, on a length. No visible movement in the air. Samson angles the bat face and dabs it behind point for a single to open his account.

OUT!

Back of a length, around middle and off, Tristan Stubbs pulls this to the fielder at deep square leg for a single.
On a length, around off, Tristan pushes this to extra cover.
Strategic Break! Delhi Capitals are reeling at 77/5, and the decision to bat first has not gone well so far. However, this is not a 200-plus wicket like we usually see here, so Tristan Stubbs holds the key for the home side, and if, with the help of others, they can fight their way to 140-150, it will still be a fighting score on this tricky surface. Chennai Super Kings will be pleased, and their spinners have done the most damage, making the most of the turning pitch. But they know that they will have to finish well and not give DC any sniff of getting back in this game. Also, Gurjapneet Singh to bowl after the break.

Angled in at the sticks from over the wicket, full in length. Rana brings his bat out in front and clips it to the right of the man at a catching mid-wicket for a single.
STRATEGIC BREAK! Chennai Super Kings have dominated the early exchanges so far and have been rewarded for their discipline with the ball. This isn't the kind of surface where batters can freely hit through the line, and spinners have got the ball to grip and turn. The Delhi Capitals have been guilty of playing too many dot balls. They will be better served by rotating the strike and keeping the scoreboard moving, even if boundaries are hard to come by. Uh..oh! FOUR! Excellent innovation by Nair. Full and outside off, Karun Nair shuffles a long way across, takes it on the full and ramps this towards the fine leg region for a boundary to end this over.
Full and on middle and off, Nitish Rana looks to punch it away but gets an outside edge towards the third man region for a run.
Hard length, on off, Karun Nair dabs this behind point for a single.
Beauty of a delivery! Right in the channel, around off, shaping a hint away from the right-hander. Karun Nair looks to block this off his front foot but gets beaten on the outside edge.
A tad too full, on middle and off, Karun Nair flicks this but doesn't time this well enough. Nair does enough to flick this in the gap between deep mid-wicket and deep square leg for a couple.
On a length, around middle and off, Karun Nair pushes this straight to mid on.
CSK bossed the Powerplay. DC finish at 37/2 - this is their third lowest Powerplay score this season, informs Ian Bishop on air.

Short of a length, on middle and off. Karun Nair rocks back inside the crease and works this to the right of mid on for a single.
Quicker and flatter around off, Karun Nair dabs this to point for no run.
Full and on off, Nair steps across and flicks this to mid-wicket yet again.
Floated up, full and on leg. That is flicked away but straight to the mid-wicket fielder.
A shake of the head from KL Rahul as he trudges off. Karun Nair is the new man in.
OUT! CAUGHT! Akeal Hosein strikes on his return to the attack. Flighted around off, KL Rahul dances down the track and looks to go for a big one. The ball grips and turns away from the batter. Rahul still goes through the stroke and gets it miscued off the cue end. It is skied towards cover, where Ruturaj Gaikwad moves well to his right and takes a good catch with a strong wind blowing across the ground.
Will Mukesh Choudhary bowl one more over in the Powerplay? Nope. Akeal Hosein is back with a change of ends.

Good length, around off, Nitish Rana dabs this to backward point for a dot to end the over.
FOUR! DRIVEN AWAY! Pitched-up delivery, around off, Nitish Rana presses onto his front foot, gets right on top of it and drives this all along the ground through the left of the fielder at cover for a boundary.
Hard length, on top of off, KL Rahul hacks this through square leg and takes a run.
Full and on middle and leg, KL Rahul flicks this gorgeously but straight to the fielder inside the circle at mid-wicket.

CSK land the first blow. Nitish Rana walks in at number 3. There is a change in bowling as Anshul Kamboj comes on. With 17 wickets to his name, he is the joint-highest wicket-taker this season alongside Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

OUT! TAKEN! Mukesh Choudhary draws first blood! He hits the length hard and on off, takes pace off this time, bowling at 122.7 kph. Pathum Nissanka stays back and looks to muscle it down the ground, but goes through the shot early and his bat turns in his hands as well. He ends up spooning it towards mid on, where Dewald Brevis moves backwards and takes a good reverse cup catch. Nissanka is frustrated with himself as he walks back. DC are 29/1.
An appeal for caught behind, but nothing doing! A wide yorker, outside off, angling away. Pathum Nissanka throws his bat at it, but fails to connect as Sanju Samson gathers it behind the stumps. There is a sound, but it is more from the bat hitting the ground. Gaikwad does not take the review, and UltraEdge later on also confirms no bat is involved.
SIX! That is a shot and a half! Mukesh Choudhary overcorrects and serves this full, on middle and off. Pathum Nissanka is anticipating that and gets down and across to scoop it over the fine leg fence for a biggie.
FOUR! Up and over! Back of a length and outside off again. This time, Pathum Nissanka stands still, extends his arms and smacks it over extra covers for a boundary.
Short of a length and outside off, angling it away, Pathum Nissanka backs away and slashes hard but gets nowhere near the ball. Too many dot balls creeping in already for DC!
Fuller delivery, on off, Pathum Nissanka has a hoick across the line but inside-edges it towards mid-wicket.

Drops it short and around off, turns it away as well, KL Rahul stays back and punches it towards extra cover.
Slows it up, full and on middle, KL Rahul steps across and pushes it back to the bowler.
Flatter, full and on middle, angles in again. KL Rahul makes some room and drives it firmly but straight to cover.

Much fuller and on off, Pathum Nissanka drills it straight to mid off. A good comeback from Mukesh Choudhary after getting hit for a boundary.
Hard length and on off, shapes in, Pathum Nissanka stabs it out towards short cover.
Back of a length and on off, nips back in a bit, KL Rahul stays back to dab it down towards point but gets an inside edge onto his pads and the ball drops on the pitch. Pathum Nissanka calls him for the run, and Rahul responds. He also collides with the bowler but makes his ground. Jamie Overton is suggesting to the umpire that Rahul blocked the bowler from getting to the ball, but KL never changed his direction, and the umpire is in agreement with the batter here.
Fuller in length and on middle, shapes in a touch, KL Rahul tucks it off the inner half of the bat towards mid-wicket.
FOUR! KL Rahul gets off the mark in fine fashion! A nice juicy half-volley, outside off. Rahul is not going to miss out on those. He leans onto his drive and creams it through covers for a boundary.
Mukesh Choudhary begins with a very full delivery, almost in the blockhole, just around off. KL Rahul jams it out to the off side.

FOUR! A bit streaky! Flatter, full and around off, angles in a bit. Pathum Nissanka backs away to steer it away, but gets a thick outside edge that races past short third for another boundary.
Big shout for LBW, but turned down! Akeal Hosein slows it up, lands this short and on middle and leg, turns away a bit. Pathum Nissanka stays back and looks to clip it to the leg side but misses and gets hit high on the back pad. The Ball Tracking later shows that the ball did pitch in line, but it would have gone over the leg pole. A wise decision by CSK not to review.
Tossed up, full and on middle, Pathum Nissanka strides out and pushes it towards short cover.
Slightly shorter in length, on off, turns away a bit, Pathum Nissanka stays back and punches it to cover.
FOUR! DC are underway in style! Akeal Hosein starts with a floater, full and on middle and leg. Pathum Nissanka gets down on his knee and nails the sweep along the carpet past square leg for a boundary.
The bell has been rung, and it is time to get the show on the road in Delhi. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Dewald Brevis are leading the talk in the CSK huddle. Out walk the two DC openers, Pathum Nissanka and KL Rahul. Chennai are starting with spin in the form of Akeal Hosein. Nissanka will face the first ball. A slip in place. Let's go...
Impact subs nominated by CSK - Shivam Dube, Prashant Veer, Matthew Short, Akash Madhwal and Sarfaraz Khan.
Chennai Super Kings (Playing XI) - Sanju Samson (WK), Ruturaj Gaikwad (C), Urvil Patel, Kartik Sharma, Dewald Brevis, Jamie Overton, Akeal Hosein (In for Prashant Veer), Noor Ahmad, Anshul Kamboj, Mukesh Choudhary and Gurjapneet Singh (In for Ramakrishna Ghosh).
Impact subs nominated by DC - Vipraj Nigam, Sameer Rizvi, Abishek Porel, Auqib Nabi and David Miller.
Delhi Capitals (Playing XI) - KL Rahul (WK), Pathum Nissanka, Karun Nair, Tristan Stubbs, Nitish Rana, Axar Patel (C), Ashutosh Sharma, Lungi Ngidi (In for Kyle Jamieson), Mitchell Starc, Kuldeep Yadav and T Natarajan.
The skipper of the Chennai Super Kings - Ruturaj Gaikwad says they were looking to bowl anyway, as the pitch looks a bit dry and won't change much. Ruturaj says that since the first three games, they have been clicking as a unit well, and he feels really happy coming into this contest. The CSK captain feels that it is a good sign as a franchise that those youngsters coming in are repaying the faith shown in them. Gaikwad informs that they have a couple of changes as Akeal and Gurjapneet come into the side.
The captain of the Delhi Capitals - Axar Patel says that the surface looks good, and if it slows down in the second innings, they want to take advantage of that. Adds that it is an important match, but they do not want to worry much about the table. Shares that they want to focus on how they can play good cricket out there and the results will take care of themselves. Axar mentions that there will always be a few ifs and buts in the game, but he is happy with the brand of cricket they have played in the tournament. Informs that Lungi Ngidi is fit and comes back in the team in place of Kyle Jamieson.
TOSS - Time for the coin to go up. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Axar Patel are all smiles and having a chat in the middle. The flip of the coin lands in favour of Axar. Delhi Capitals elect to BAT first.
CSK's head coach - Stephen Fleming says that their campaign has been hit with a few injuries to key players, and that is why they are giving a lot of chances to new faces in the tournament. Adds that Brevis has been working his way back into the tournament after missing out on the start of this campaign, and he is really positive about turning it around for himself. The Kiwi legend concludes by saying that they knew they had players lined up in the squad to do specific roles. Mentions that Anshul Kamboj has done really well for them in the death overs, and the entire bowling unit has done what has been asked of them.
PITCH REPORT - Ian Bishop is pitchside. He says that the square boundaries are 66 meters and 60 meters, while the straight hit is 73 meters. Eoin Morgan joins him and says that there was a bit of rain this afternoon and last night, but hopefully there won't be any during the game, and it has made the climate a lot cooler. Eoin mentions that they have had everything on this ground, from being bowled out for 75 to scoring 260 and still not being enough. Mentions that there are a lot of cracks on it, but it is still a rock-hard pitch. Reckons that the bowlers need to be brave and pitch it up with the new ball to get some movement and try to pick up early wickets.
A quick word from the DC camp - Tristan Stubbs says that DC’s confidence remains high following their successful pursuit of a massive total against Rajasthan. Tristan pinpoints the depth of the DC lineup, expressing immense trust in the form of Ashutosh Sharma and the experience of Axar Patel to provide a safety net for the middle order on this unpredictable Delhi track. Stubbs reckons that his previous half-century against CSK is irrelevant as this is a fresh game, on a new surface.
A crossroad playoff destiny - For both sides, a victory would solidify their resurgence. In a season where record totals have become the norm, this clash promises a blend of tactical nuance and raw aggression. Toss and team news in a bit.
Chennai’s momentum and bowling hurdles - Sitting just one rung above Delhi at 6th place, the Chennai Super Kings are starting to resemble the ruthless machine fans are accustomed to seeing in the business end of the tournament. Ruturaj Gaikwad’s squad is riding high after a comprehensive eight-wicket dismantling of the Mumbai Indians, signalling a significant uptick in their batting rhythm. Yet, the Yellow Brigade is not without its flaws. Despite Anshul Kamboj’s heroic 17-wicket haul this season, the bowling unit has often been expensive. To secure a win, their seasoned veterans must exercise better control in the middle overs to prevent DC’s power-hitters from running away with the game.
The Capitals’ search for stability - Delhi Capitals enter this fixture occupying the 7th spot, their season oscillating wildly between brilliant individual displays and collective collapses. Under the leadership of Axar Patel, DC recently breathed life into their campaign by hunting down a gargantuan 226 against Rajasthan, a chase ignited by the clinical hitting of their openers. For Delhi to overcome a veteran side like CSK, they must eliminate their sublime one day, suicidal the next habit. The burden lies on their middle order to provide a reliable bridge for the finishers.
Duel in the heart of the Capital - Hello, and welcome to everyone tuning in. The Arun Jaitley Stadium is set to transform into a pressure cooker as the Delhi Capitals welcome the Chennai Super Kings for a crunch game in the 2026 IPL. Historically, this rivalry has tilted in favour of the Men in Yellow, who also won the earlier meeting this season at Chepauk. There was rain, accompanied by a hailstorm, earlier in the day in Delhi, and let's hope the weather stays clear. Both sides badly need those 2 points to close the gap with the teams above them.
... MATCH DAY ...
Revenge on the mind - It’s 'revenge week' in the Indian Premier League 2026, and Match 48 brings Delhi Capitals face-to-face with Chennai Super Kings once again at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The last time these two met, it was CSK who came out on top, powered by a stunning century from Sanju Samson, and Delhi will have that fresh in their memory. Both teams are level on points with four wins and five losses from nine games, but their journeys here have been very different, setting up a fascinating clash. Signs of a turnaround - Delhi finally snapped their three-match losing streak in style, pulling off their highest-ever successful chase in franchise history against Rajasthan, a result that could prove to be a turning point. KL Rahul has been the backbone of their campaign with 433 runs in 9 games, anchoring the innings consistently, while the bold call to drop David Miller and promote Pathum Nissanka paid immediate dividends as the Sri Lankan struck his maiden fifty and played a crucial role in that chase. There's still a sense of 'what could have been' about their season - failing to defend 264 against Punjab and then getting bowled out for 75 in the very next game are scars that haven't quite faded but that last win has injected fresh belief into the setup. Experience and firepower - Nitish Rana's return to form, with two fifties in his last four innings, has strengthened the batting, while Tristan Stubbs has been their most consistent middle-order presence, averaging an impressive 54.75. Sameer Rizvi has been inconsistent after a bright start, and Ashutosh Sharma's role becomes even more crucial if Miller continues to sit out. With the ball, Mitchell Starc's return has been a massive boost, as he made an instant impact with a three-wicket haul, offering control both upfront and at the death. Lungi Ngidi's comeback from injury adds further depth, if fully fit, he could slot straight back in, otherwise Kyle Jamieson provides a solid alternative. T Natarajan and Mukesh Kumar have had their moments without being consistent, but the experienced spin duo of Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav have delivered, combining for 15 wickets and keeping things tight in the middle overs. Peaking at the right time - Chennai Super Kings arrive with momentum, having won three of their last five matches, including a statement double over Mumbai Indians. MS Dhoni is yet to feature this season, recovering from injury but CSK have still managed to stay competitive under Ruturaj Gaikwad's leadership. After a slow start, Gaikwad has found his rhythm with back-to-back unbeaten fiftises, leading from the front when it matters most. Samson has been the standout performer with 315 runs in 9 matches, including two centuries, one of them against Delhi earlier this season making him a key figure once again. Young Kartik Sharma has also stepped up with a half-century in the last game, offering promise in the middle order. Middle order concerns and injury setbacks - While the top order has delivered, the middle order remains a concern. The absence of Ayush Mhatre has disrupted their balance, though Utvil Patel has tried to fill that void with aggressive starts in the Powerplay. Shivam Dube, Sarfaraz Khan and Dewald Brevis have all shown glimpses without consistently delivering, leaving a bit of uncertainty in that phase of the innings. Injuries haven't helped either. Khaleel Ahmed was ruled out earlier in the season, and Ramakrishna Ghosh, who impressed on debut, has now been sidelined with a right foot fracture, adding to their growing list of setbacks. Wickets in bunches - Despite those challenges, their bowling has been a major strength. Anshul Kamboj has been a revelation, sitting on 17 wickets, joint-most this season, while Jamie Overton has been the perfect partner, chipping in with key breakthroughs, including a brilliant 4/18 against Delhi earlier. Noor Ahmad has bounced back strongly after a slow start, picking up 9 wickets, and Akeal Hosein has made an impact whenever given the chance. Mukesh Choudhary has been steady with the new ball, ensuring they remain competitive across phases. Delhi pitch - The Arun Jaitley Stadium is traditionally known for high-scoring encounters, but the two night games this season have offered more assistance to pacers, making conditions a bit more balanced. If that trend continues, early wickets could play a huge role in shaping the contest. Form (Last 5 completed matches, recent first) - DC - WLLLW | CSK - WLWLW. Head-to-head edge - Chennai hold a dominant 20-12 head-to-head advantage, but Delhi have won two of the last three meetings, showing this rivalry is far from one-sided. With both teams locked at similar positions on the table, the stakes couldn’t be higher. Delhi looking to build on their resurgence and settle scores, while Chennai aim to continue their upward climb and complete the double. Momentum meets motivation, revenge meets opportunity and in a season where margins are razor-thin, this could be a defining chapter for both sides.
