That is it from this game then! Just the one game to go. Australia head into the last Test with a 2-1 lead. England can't retain the Ashes but they would love to level the series. Australia on the other hand, will be eager to win a series in England after a long time. The 5th Test will be played on the 27th of this month. That game begins at 1530 IST (1000 GMT). Till then, take care and goodbye!

Pat Cummins says he is hapy with how the boys played and the boys are proud of it. States this result does not change their ideas for the next game. States the ground is an amazing one and it will be special moment at the Oval. Adds England batted well, they tried a few different things but it did not come off and England were brilliant. Marnus Labuschagne and Mitchell Marsh were brilliant and they batted really well. Ends by saying they are fully focused on winning the last game.

Ben Stokes says it is tough one but they need to accept it. Adds the equation they were in, played in their hands, States, Pope's injury had to re-think the structure of the team but Wood and Moeen have been really good. Ends by saying they want to win the last game they play. Credits Zak Crawley for the way he played. Ends by congratulating Stuart Broad on his 600 Test wickets and says he and James Anderson have been brilliant for them.

Zak Crawley MAN OF THE MATCH, says they are disappointed, they played really good cricket but they now need to look ahead. He feels they had chances to win the game but the rain cost them the game. Adds this is one of his best innings for England. Adds he will take a lot of confidence from this knock and he is very pleased with it. Adds every game is massive and they will give it their all in the next game.

Rain though played spoil-sport in the days after that. Especially on Day 4 and Day 5. We only had around one session on Day 4 and none of Day 5. England will feel hard done by as they wre in a very strong position to win this game and level the series but that was not the case. Australia still lead 2-1.

Right from Day 1 it was the hosts who dominated the game. They elected to bowl and bundled Australia out for an average score. Woakes was the star for them with a five-for. Then it was their batters who were brilliant! They came out all guns blazing. Zak Crawley was the highlight with a massive ton. There were contributions from others too. Root was really good and Jonny Bairstow down the order was unlucky to not get to a ton. They ammased over 500 and took a lead of over 250.

The umpires are having a word with the captains! That should probably be it, should not be long before it is called off!

UPDATE 2033 IST (1503 GMT) - Well, we should not be far away from the day being abandoned which means, the match will end a draw. Pretty sure with the amount of rain that we have had, it is very difficult to see any kind of play even if the rain stops.

UPDATE 2000 IST (1430 GMT) - With every passing minute, hope of any kind of play is fading away as the rain keeps on falling. There are puddles out there on the field and it would be a miracle if we get to see some action now.

UPDATE 1855 IST (1325 GMT) - The rain continues to come down and this match seems to be heading for a draw! England fans will be praying for it to stop at the moment.

UPDATE 1810 IST (1240 GMT) - The story is the same as the first session, the rain continues to fall and the covers are firmly in place. For now, our wait continues...

... DAY 5, SESSION 2 ...

UPDATE - 1727 IST (1157 GMT) - Lunch has been taken! The rain continues to fall and chances of any play on Day 5 is reducing with each passing minute.

UPDATE - 1645 IST (1115 GMT) - Well, the good news did not last for long as the covers are back on and the rain is now steady! The wait continues.

We have some better news for you! The skies are clearing up and the rain has eased out a lot. The groundsmen could start their mopping up job in a bit. Fingers crossed for now. The news now gets better! THE COVERS ARE COMING OFF!

Nothing new to update! It continues to rain and it is steady rain! We probably won't be having any play in the first session.

Play should have started by now but the rain continues to come down and the wait continues. HOWEVER, it is a lot lighter than it was earlier on.

There was an insepction scheudled at 11 local but that does not seem possible now as it has started raining again! It s pouring now, it is raining quite hard. Not good news for England!

Well, scratch what we wrote below as it is raining in Manchester and the covers are on. Let us hope it passes by quickly.

It was rain which dominated Day 4 as we only managed around one session of play! However, the Aussies, courtesy Marnus Labuschagne and Mitchell Marsh fought back strongly in that session but England did manage to get the centurion out. Australia still trail by another 61 runs and England will be dearly hoping, they get a full day's play here and they can force a result. Difficult however, as the forecast is not the best. For now though, it is dry but quite overcast. Let us keep our fingers crossed and hope we get good amount of play.

... DAY 5, SESSION 1 ...

So, as expected it is Stumps on Day 4, we should be happy that there was some action as the forecast was showcasing rain for the full day. At the start of Day 4, the pressure was on the Aussies but the way Marnus Labuschagne and Mitchell Marsh handled themselves, they deserve the credit to build a stand. Marnus Labuschagne got his 11th Test ton but fell later to Root. England were bit wayward with the ball, too many balls on the pads or some avoidable short balls often. Australia trail by 61 runs now. The forecast for Day 5 is similar so it will be yet another day where we will be checking with the weather page. Let's be optimistic and hope for the best. Join us back at 3.30 pm IST (10 am GMT). Till then, cheers!

It continues to drizzle and the covers are placed firmly. It doesn't look like we will get any more action. Still, let's stay optimistic and hope for the best.

Well, play should have resumed by now but it has started to rain and the start has been delayed.

... DAY 4, SESSION 3 ...

A good session for the Aussies and they continue their fightback! Marnus Labuschagne and Mitchell Marsh batted really well. They both went after the bowlers and added a 100-plus stand. Marnus Labuschagne was the mainstay with a brilliant ton. They were also helped with the fading light as England were not allowed to bowl the pacers. England though continued with the spinners and they leaked runs. However, Root got the massive wicket of the centurion and the wicket has started turning. Cameron Green has looked fidgety to begin with and England would hope they can get him soon after the break. Can they do so? We will find out.

THERE IT IS! There comes the call! The day has been called off and the game ends in a draw! Australia will believe they have got away with one here. It would have been very difficult for them to turn this around. England on the other hand, have no chance of winning the Ashes back now. All they can do is level the series but the Ashes is going to the Aussies.

Commentary

Pretty sure the Aussies will be mentally and physically drained. They were not out there for a very long time but they just looked puzzled. The fielding, the bowling just was not upto the mark and now they have a stiff challenge ahead of them. They trail by over 250 on a wicket which is offering something for the bowlers and if they are to avoid an innings defeat, they will have to bat well. Stay tuned for the reply.

End of a brilliant, brilliant batting performance from England! They have managed to score at over 5 per over throughout and have taken a massive lead! It was Zak Crawley who was the star for them on Day 2 as he scored a brilliant ton in no time. He was well supported by Moeen Ali and then Root. The likes of Ben Stokes and Harry Brook continued the good work from the top order Both got to fifties before they fell. Then it was the Bairstow show. Along with the tail, he added handy runs. Smashed the bowlers all around the park. Seemed all set for a well-deserved ton but it was not to be as Anderson was trapped in front. Still, an excellent job from the English batters and they have given their side a serious chance to win this despite the poor forecast ahead.

Commentary

Back for England's reply. The players are out in the middle. Looks like it will be Starc's left arm that will stride in first. Three slips and a gully in place.

...SECOND INNINGS...

For England, Chris Woakes was the star with the ball with a five-fer. The others gave him able support. All the bowlers got a wicket at least and overall, England will be pretty pleased with their effort. Now it is onto their batters, the conditions should favor them and they would want to cash in. Australia on the other hand, will want to make most of the new ball and get a few early wickets or it could be a long day in the field for them. Stay tuned for the reply.

England have wrapped up the Australian innings quite quickly and judging by the conditions overhead and the wicket, they'll be happy with their effort. By no means is 317 a small score but we still feel the Aussies would have wanted a lot more. The problem for them was their batters failed to convert the starts they got off too. Two of them scored fifties, a couple got out in the 40s but they needed someone to go on and make it a big one. They though still have got to a competitive total courtesy of a combined batting effort.

90.2W

OUT! TAKEN! Chris Woakes will end with a five-fer! Job done by the English bowlers! Goes a bit short, outside off. Hazlewood has a poke and gets a thick outside edge to third slip where Ben Duckett takes it well over his head. A good catch and Australia finish with 317.

We are all set. The players are out in the middle. The conditions are superb. James Anderson to have a go....

The inspection is done and we have some brilliant news. The play is set to start at 7.15 pm IST (1.45 pm GMT). This is excellent news. Stay tuned. 59 overs are to be bowled. The Aussies have to gear up to face the music. The start is very close.

Some good news for everyone! The rain has stopped and one of the covers is coming off. Still, a lot of water has accumulated so it will take a long time to get things ready. Some optimistic news for now though. There will be an inspection at 6.30 pm IST (1 pm GMT). Let's hope for good news.

Still raining here which means the first session is a wash out! The radar is not the best going ahead today and we doubt if we can get any play on Day 4. Let's just be optimistic for now and hope this rain passes by quickly.

We have nothing new to update! The rain continues to fall and there are puddles on the outfield now! Not great news if you are an England fan but the Aussies won't mind.

Wood is marking is run-up, Mitchell Marsh and Marnus Labuschagne are in all readiness, the crowd here is buzzing, we are all set for the first ball of the day! WELL, THIS IS WHAT WE WOULD BE WRITING IF THERE WAS NO RAIN! For now though, it is POURING DOWN and the wait continues.

Well, we have some bad news to begin with, it is raining for now and the covers are in place. The start is surely going to be a delayed one but the forecast for the day is not the best. All we can do now is hope and continue to wait.

Rain, rain go away, come again some other day! Pretty sure all the England fans will be singing this for remaining two days of the game as weather is the only thing we believe can save the Aussies. They still trail by another 162 runs and have just the 6 wickets in hand. The Australian's won't mind the weather gods not showing any mercy. The forecast is not the best as a lot of rain is predicted. Let's keep our fingers crossed and hope we get some action. Welcome to the coverage of Day 4.

... DAY 4, SESSION 1 ...

Australia took the beating in the park. They bowled well in the first couple of sessions but once Jonny Bairstow walked in, it turned out to a nightmare. In a blink of an eye, England took the lead over 250. Australia needed a good start with the bat but lost Usman Khawaja cheaply. David Warner was victim to Chris Woakes once again. Steven Smith batted well but failed to stay in and late in day, Australia lost Head as well. They have Marnus Labuschagne out there, and still batting left but the pressure is on them. That's it from Day 3, we believe only rain can now save the visitors and a lot of it is predicted over the next few days. Let's hope though there is none and we get a full day's play. Action begins at 1530 IST (1000 GMT). Till then, goodbye and take care.

That will be end of Day 3. What a day for England. They are in complete control and 6 wickets away from equalling the series. Day 3 started with Ben Stokes and Harry Brook continue to add to the lead. Both added fifties and it was going all well until Lunch but the action turned into fireworks when Jonny Bairstow joined in. He hit the bowlers all around the park and along with the tail batted brilliantly. However, missed out on his century by just one run as James Anderson didn't survive.

...Day 3, Session 3...

England head into the Tea Break in firm control! Australia though began their reply with the bat well but that wicket of Khawaja towards the end of the session, spoils it for them. They would have loved to enter the break with no wicket down but that is not the case. They will now need the two batting out there to score big and put up a massive stand. They still trail by over 200. For England, their bowlers have got some assistance off the surface but they have not hit the right lines and lengths. They would like to be a lot more discilpined after the break. An interesting final session awaits.

Still, an excellent job from the English batters and they have given their side a serious chance to win this despite the poor forecast ahead.

... DAY 3, SESSION 2 ...

England have almost tripled up their lead from Day 2 and are in a really good position right now. Ben Stokes started in an aggressive way and got to his fifty quickly before getting out. Harry Brook played more calmly and got to his fifty as well. He fell but England will be please to see Jonny Bairstow get some runs and push the lead. Australia bowled much better in this session. Their seamers were more accurate with Josh Hazlewood getting three off the four wickets which fell. England now lead by 189 runs. Maybe an hour more with bat or a score of around 250 before England charge in with the ball. Stay tuned for the second session.

First thing first, the weather looks good and no signs of rain for now. Ben Stokes and Harry Brook are out in the middle. It is a bit overcast so expect fireworks from Englishmen right from the start as they look to extend the lead. Josh Hazlewood to bowl...

England still have a lot of batting left and will hope to extend their lead by at least 250. Australia on the other hand, looked tired at the end of Day 2 but have to reenergize quickly as a lot of work is still left undone. They would hope for some early wickets. Stay tuned and let's also hope the rain stays away as the forecast doesn't look good for the future.

Hello and welcome to the action of Day 3 in the Ashes. The hosts bossed Day 2 and have the upper hand in the must-win game. The aggressive batting display was on the cards. Australia scored more than 300 but England cut out the deficit in two sessions alone, that tells you the beating the visitors took. Crawley was the glory hound while Joe Root missed out on his ton as well. However, both of them put England in a commanding position.

...Day 3, Session 1...

Australia had to toil hard throughout the day! We did mention, if they do not get wickets with the new ball, they might be in for a long day on the field and that was the case. Mitchell Starc struck earlier on but that was it, since then, they had no answers to the battering their bowlers took. However, they did finish strongly towards the end with two wickets but they will know, they are still well behind in the game. Wickets and a lot of them is what Australia need at the start of Day 3, England on the other hand, will look to continue their dominance. The forecast for Day 3 is not the best but let us hope the weather stays clear. The action begins at 1530 IST (1000 GMT). The build-up begins a lot earlier. Till then, goodbye and take care!

A day bossed by the hosts! Right from the start, everything went their way! First, they did not take long to take the remaining two wickets and bundled Australia out for below 320. In reply, they lost a wicket early but since then, it was all about Zak Crawley! He first with Moeen added over 100 and then with Root managed to add a 200-run stand. England managed to score at a healthy rate throughout the day and the two took England past Australia's total. Both fell in quick succession though but Harry Brook and Ben Stokes ensured there were no more wickets to fall and the two have stretched England's lead to 67!

We are back for the final session of the day. The players are out in the middle followed by Joe Root and Zak Crawley. Pat Cummins to bowl. Let's play...

... DAY 2, SESSION 3 ...

Australia on the other hand, are clueless as to what has to be done. They have tried it all but with minimum success. They'll be hoping to build some pressure in the next session and hope that leads to wickets or they'll be well behind the 8-ball by the end of the day. Join us for the final session in a bit.

What a session for the hosts, they have lost just the one wicket and got the deficit down to 78 runs. They are scoring at almost 6 per over and have moved well ahead in the game. Crawley is surely the highlight with a brilliant ton and Root seems to be at his best. England would hope they can continue in the same way and if they do, they would surely enter into the lead in the last session itself.

...SECOND SESSION...

An excellent first session of Day 2 and it belongs to the hosts mostly. Their reply with the bat has been optimistic. Apart from the wicket of Ben Duckett, England have not been tested much. It was relatively much easier for Moeen Ali and Zak Crawley to build a stand. Australia were too straight with the balls. They need to be more consistent to get some rewards. It is a good deck to bat so won't be easy but Australia need to hit the lines on the trot. Earlier at the start, Pat Cummins was dismissed on the first ball of Day 2 and could add around 17 more runs to their overnight tally. Still, a long way to go but if it continues the same way, it will be a long day for Australia on the field. Stay tuned for the second session.

OUT! TAKEN! First ball of Day 2 and action straightaway. Cummins goes! James Anderson serves it very full and outside off. Cummins drives it straight to covers where Ben Stokes gets low and takes it. A superb start for England.

We are all set. Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc to resume their batting. Perfect conditions as the weather looks good. James Anderson to bowl first on Day 2. Let's play...

Australia's tail though has shown character so far in this series and they would dearly hope, Cummins and Starc can stretch their total to the 350-run mark. England on the other hand, will want to make quick work of the remaining two wickets and then bat well on a Day 2 wicket which is considered the best to bat on.

It is time for Day 2 and we haed into it with the game quite evenly poised or one can say, the hosts have their noses ahead but just by a little. They elected to bowl on a ground where the teams batting first hve a better record but have done reasonably well. They managed to pick wickets at regular intervals and have got 8 on the opening day. However, despite that, the Aussies managed to score at a good click and are just the one run short of 300. The visitors would have loved a couple of their batters who got off to starts to make it a bit one but that wasn't the case.

... DAY 2, SESSION 1 ...

Right then, the Ashes continues to enthral us with some high-quality cricket and Day 1 has belonged to the hosts having claimed 8 wickets with 299 runs on the board. The wicket was good for batting and England will want to wrap up the Aussie inning at the earliest. We are bound to see some exciting action on Day 2 of this fourth Test match and we will be back on Thursday 20th July to see how this game pans out. The first ball will be bowled at 3.30 pm IST (10 am GMT) but you can join us early for the build-up. Cheers!

England won the toss and elected to bowl first but the surface looked really good for the batters. The sun was also out and with the lack of overcast conditions, the English pace bowlers did not manage to get sufficient movement. Stuart Broad, however, continued his good form and dismissed Usman Khawaja early but David Warner got off to a good start. He could not capitalize though and was dismissed by Chris Woakes. Steven Smith and Marnus Labuschagne looked comfortable out in the middle with Australia going into Lunch having scored 107 runs at a brisk rate. Steven Smith fell to Mark Wood after the break and Australia managed to build another partnership but Labuschagne was dismissed by Moeen Ali right after he reached his fifty. At Tea, Australia were still in control but would have been disappointed by the fact that most of the batters could not make the most of the starts that they got.

SESSION SUMMARY - 112 runs and 4 wickets in 34 overs. England got the final session of Day 1 to a perfect start as Travis Head fell victim to the short-ball ploy 2 runs short of his half-century. It was Stuart Broad's 600th wicket in Test cricket as he cemented his name in the history books. Cameron Green came out and looked really rusty initially as he was beaten several times and got some off the edges of his bat. He managed to stick around with Mitchell Marsh who looked much more fluent at the other end. Marsh reached his half-century in just 56 deliveries as the two all-rounders added 65 runs in 74 balls for the sixth wicket. Ben Stokes made an inspired change and brought Chris Woakes into the attack who claimed the wickets of both the set batters in one over to turn the tide in England’s favour. With seven wickets down, it looked like the hosts would wrap up the Aussie inning but Alex Carey and Mitchell Starc put on a stubborn partnership facing 107 deliveries to add 39 runs for the eighth wicket. The new ball was taken straightaway and Woakes grabbed his fourth by dismissing Carey before Stumps.

Time for DRINKS! An excellent hour for England after the Tea break as they have taken three Australian wickets and put the visitors on the back foot. Stuart Broad started the session by removing Travis Head straightaway after the Tea break. Mitchell Marsh and Cameron Green got together and added 65 runs for the 6th wicket. Marsh was the aggressor as he notched up his fifty and looked in complete command. Chris Woakes was brought back in the 63rd over and he responded brilliantly by removing Marsh and Green in the same over. England are on top now and will want to wrap up the final three wickets quickly and restrict Australia to under 300.

The England pacers started nicely post the lunch interval and bowled probing lines to the Aussies. Run scoring was made a little difficult which resulted in Mark Wood claiming a crucial wicket for the hosts post the break by dismissing Steven Smith. Moeen Ali was brought into the attack just before Tea and the move paid dividends as England got a much-neeed breakthrough to make it an even session. The game has ebbed and flowed nicely and we can expect another exciting session post the Tea interval. Join us back at 8.30 pm IST (3 pm GMT) for the final session of the first day of this Test match.

SESSION SUMMARY - 80 runs and 2 wickets in 24 overs. Another evenly contested session for both sides. Australia lost Steven Smith early after the break, to a brilliant delivery from Mark Wood but Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne weathered the storm and began scoring runs with ease after that. The duo added 63 in 102 deliveries and were looking solid to take Australia to Tea but a poor shot from Labuschagne got him dismissed LBW by Moeen Ali. Australia will hope that Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head stitch together a strong partnership and take Australia into a comfortable position by Stumps on Day 1.

UltraEdge shows there is no bat involved and Ball Tracking has three reds. The umpire has to reverse his decision and Australia lose their fourth wicket. DRINKS! England have managed to get the big wicket of Steven Smith in the first hour of the afternoon session on Day 1. Mark Wood claimed his wicket of the innings and England have their tail up. They have peppered Travis Head with short deliveries even getting him on the helmet once. He has managed to preserve his wicket though and is looking a bit more comfortable at the crease. Marnus Labuschagne continues to hold up one end and will want to bat through to Tea. England will want a few more wickets to justify their decision to bowl first as Australia still find themselves fractionally ahead with the rate at which they are scoring.

SESSION SUMMARY - 107 runs and 2 wickets in 25 overs. A pretty even session for both sides on the first morning of the fourth Test. Having put into bat first, Australia started off tentatively before Stuart Broad pinned Usman Khawaja in front of the stumps and drew first blood for the hosts. David Warner looked streaky but got to 32 before nicking a fuller one-off Chris Woakes as Australia were reduced to 61 for 2. Steven Smith started off in an aggressive fashion and carried in a similar way through the session. Marnus Labuschagne has looked iffy at times but has played the supporting role so far and looks stubborn in the middle. Australia will want their two best batters to carry on post the lunch interval and make it big for the visitors.

DRINKS! Australia lost Usman Khawaja early but will be happy with the start they have got as they have played positively and got off to a decent start. David Warner negotiated his nemesis Stuart Broad early and scored at a steady pace but the England pacer managed to dismiss the other opener to get his 599th Test wicket. The visitors will want to go into the Lunch break with their wickets intact while the home fans will be hoping England can get a few quick breakthroughs. We have a slight delay as there seems to be some issue near the sight screen. The light is reflecting off the seats and it seems like the spectators are being made to sit on them. We are all set for the game to begin as the umpires make their way out to the middle. The England players are in a huddle at the boundary line for a few last-minute instructions from Ben Stokes before taking their respective positions on the field. David Warner and Usman Khawaja will open the inning for Australia and will want to get a good partnership going here. However, Warner will need to get over his demons to negotiate Stuart Broad who has the new ball in his hand and is ready to begin proceedings. Let's play...

We are moments away from the start of the game but first, the players and the match officials will line up for the national anthems. It will be Australia's national anthem first followed by the national anthem of England.

Pat Cummins, the captain of Australia says that they would have opted to bowl first too but it looks like a good wicket to bat. Adds that the game is played at a quick pace at this venue which is why they going without a spinner in this game. Ben Stokes, the skipper of England says that they are going to bowl first. Adds that the weather is good but it will play its part in the next few days. Mentions that a break in the last week was much needed after the three Tests. Adds that Moeen Ali brings a lot of balance to their side and having him makes a world of good. Australia are the number one Test side in the world and with their clinical approach in the first two Test matches, it seemed like they would bulldoze their way through the series. That said, both their wins went right down to the wire and eventually they were beaten in the last match. The series has come alive and the visitors will know that they will be facing a hostile crowd as well as a pumped-up opponent, especially after the stumping incident at the 'Home of Cricket'. They have also announced that there will be one change in their playing XI with Cameron Green returning to the side in place of Todd Murphy. Will they be able to recover from their loss in the last match and clinch the series? Or will England continue their winning momentum and make it 2-2? We will find out soon. Stay tuned for the toss and team updates.

England have made one change to their playing eleven with James Anderson brought into the side in place of Ollie Robinson. The loss of Ollie Pope seems to have unsettled their batting order slightly as they have opted to try Harry Brook and Moeen Ali in his position and keep Joe Root at number 4. It did not work as well as they expected and we could see them tweak their batting order slightly. The form of Jonny Bairstow has been a concern and he will want to come to the party when it matters the most. Their bowling has been strengthened remarkably with the introduction of Mark Wood whose searing pace has had the Aussie batters on their toes. England seem to have finally got their team composition right and will be eager to level the series before going to the Oval for the final game.

Hello, and a warm welcome, ladies and gentlemen to our coverage of the fourth Ashes Test and the series is nicely set up after three enthralling Test matches that had us on the edge of the seats till the very end. The Aussies started strong, winning at Edgbaston and Lord’s but the hosts rallied to seal a series-saving Test match at Headingley. They will have to do it all over again as the visitors have yet another opportunity to seal a series win when they clash at the Old Trafford Cricket Ground in Manchester. A draw will also help them retain the Ashes as England will then only be able to draw the series and it is Australia who are the current holders of this historic urn.
