Interesting insight from Nasser Hussain on air following the wicket of Saud Shakeel. Just before the dismissal, Joe Root moved away from his position at square leg, perhaps finding it uncomfortable to captain from there, and swapped places with Dan Lawrence. Interestingly, Lawrence stood much deeper and squarer than you would normally expect a square leg fielder to, but it worked perfectly as he found himself in exactly the right position to snaffle the catch. Whether Root intended the switch to have that outcome or not, only he and Lawrence will know!

Pakistan search for a historic rescue act - Trailing by 179 runs with 7 wickets in hand, Pakistan face a monumental mountain to climb, but the fight is far from over. Shan Masood and Saud Shakeel are out in the middle, and the key learning for the visiting batters is that survival requires immense patience against this moving ball. If they need an inspiration to recover from this, they can remember how Brendon McCullum and his side staged an unbelievable turnaround from a similar hole against India in the 2014 Wellington match. Even though that was a one-off instance in history, it proves that extraordinary fightbacks are possible if the batters refuse to give their wickets away.

Rain and Test cricket - We have had warm and sunny weather right throughout the English summer, and we barely saw a washout in The Hundred, which ended last weekend. But once England have gone back to Test cricket, rain has followed. After making an appearance on Day 1, Day 2 started with the covers completely in place. A whole session was lost, but thankfully, there was nothing more than a mizzle since the resumption. Right then, plenty of action left in this Test match as England currently lead by 195 runs, and the forecast for the days ahead is pretty good. Day 3 is scheduled to begin on Friday, August 21, at 10 am GMT. However, you can also tune in much sooner for the build-up as well. Cheers!

A mountain to climb - For all their hardships in the game so far, Pakistan will be happy about one thing - the performance of Ali Usman. He was nowhere near being consistent in terms of pitching the ball in the same areas, but when he got it right, he looked threatening and even picked up a five-for, helping his side to make a slight comeback late in the day. Other than Usman, Mohammad Abbas bowled very miserly and made the old ball talk as well. Khurram Shahzad, meanwhile, was expensive to say the least, and Mohammad Ali simply didn't have the pace to threaten the English batters. Pakistan will now look to make good use of the second new ball early on Day 3 and keep the lead in and around the 200-run mark.

The story of two partnerships - England were already in a comfortable position at the end of Day 1, but once play resumed on Day 2, Joe Root and Jordan Cox plundered the runs with utmost ease. Their stand finally came to an end after adding 150 runs, and they both got out in quick succession. Then Harry Brook and Dan Lawrence got together and they mirrored what their predecessors did, putting on 120 runs for the 5th wicket. The hosts look well on top at 322/4, but have ended the day at 366/8, losing 4 for 44 late in the day. Root, Cox, and Lawrence all picked up half-centuries, as Brook got out in the 90s for a second year running at his home ground, and he will feel there was a big hundred for the taking. It stays Not Out, and if Rizwan had been a bit more attentive, he could have caught the ball, and Lawrence would have been out. Instead, he was busy appealing for the LBW.

Brook and Lawrence hold firm - Pakistan's bowlers created a few nervous moments with the ball, but Harry Brook and Dan Lawrence stood firm through the mini-storm to keep the scoreboard ticking. While Pakistan managed to claw their way back with those two crucial wickets, England remain firmly in the driver's seat at the moment. We will be back at 4.20 pm GMT for what promises to be a gripping final session!

The Big Stand - Resuming on 112/2, Joe Root and Jordan Cox looked virtually untroubled early on, scoring fluent half-centuries and leveling the scores at 171/2 by drinks. Just as England seemed poised to bat Pakistan out of the contest, the visitors struck back with two wickets in two overs. Ali Usman dismissed a brilliant Cox for 73, and Khurram Shahzad trapped Root shortly after to spark a much-needed burst of life into the Pakistani camp.

TEA, DAY 2 - 4 pm GMT - England take charge with a 68-run lead. After the morning session was completely washed out by rain, the afternoon belonged squarely to England as they wiped out the deficit and pushed to 239/4, establishing a commanding 68-run lead. The pitch eased out considerably, allowing the hosts to dictate and leave Pakistan searching for answers in what turned out to be a fast-moving session.

A dot to end, and that will be TEA ON DAY 2. Tossed up around middle, drifting it in. Dan Lawrence gets a good stride forward and smothers it away to mid on. England are 239/4, leading by 68 runs.

A big appeal for LBW, but turned down. Nicely drifted into the pads by Ali Usman. Dan Lawrence leans on to block it straight, but the ball beats the inside edge and hits the pads. Probably sliding down leg, and the keeper is also certain that this is missing the stumps. No review taken. Later, Ball Tracking does confirm that the ball was missing leg stump.

FOUR! That has rocketed to the fence. Slightly overpitched around middle, Dan Lawrence gets the trigger movement going back and across, before leaning in and drilling the drive at a rate of knots to the left of mid on for a boundary. England's lead has now surpassed 50 runs.

Fullish length again, this time wide outside off. Lawrence gets well across to the off side and leaves it alone.

DROPPED AND FOUR! Oh, Pakistan have given a lifeline to a very dangerous player. Good-length delivery outside off, darts away a bit off the deck. Salman Agha at second slip reacts late and sticks out a right hand, but the ball flicks his fingers and rolls away into the deep third fence. Salman seems to have picked up an injury as well and is going off the field for now.

OUT! LBW! An appeal for LBW this time, and again, the umpire's finger has gone up. Joe Root gives a sheepish look to Harry Brook but decides to review anyway. A lovely bit of bowling from Khurram Shahzad as he bowls it a bit fuller and gets the ball to dart back in sharply. Root walks towards the ball and gets inside the line to flick. He falls over a bit and misses, getting hit on the pads, right in front of the stumps. The third umpire confirms with the help of Ball Tracking that the ball is hitting the middle of middle. Poor shot and review, which England have none left now. Both set batters are back in the hutch, and Pakistan are roaring back into the contest.

OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! What happened here? A big deflection off the bat, but there's not that big of an appeal, and the umpire's finger goes up. The keeper, Mohammad Rizwan, nearly pulls out of the appeal, and there is some confusion. Jordan Cox reviews. UltraEdge shows a clear spike, and not sure why Cox reviewed it. Maybe he got caught up in the confusion as well, or maybe he felt it went off the flap of the pad. Coming to the delivery, this is bowled flatter by Ali Usman, fuller and outside off. Cox strides across and looks to push it into the off side but gets an outside edge. Rizwan pouches it sharply and Cox will have to walk back. Pakistan do get a wicket, that too, from an unlikely source.

UPDATE - 1.20 pm GMT - Uh, oh! A bit of a drizzle. It doesn't last long but the start of action on Day 2 is now pushed further back by 15 minutes, and things will get underway at 1.45 pm GMT now. Tea will now be taken at 4 pm GMT and we will have 58 overs in the day, instead of 63.

UPDATE - 12.48 pm GMT - There's a huge positive update coming in from Headingley. The cricketing action on Day 2 is set to start at 1.30 pm GMT if there is no further rain. So, there is still a good chunk of time before play resumes and let's hope that the weather stays dry. The clouds have cleared out a bit, and conditions aren't that bleak either, so it's all good for now. There's more clarity on the session timings as well. The afternoon session will run for 2 hours and 20 minutes, with Tea scheduled for 3.50 pm GMT. The final session will then run from 4.10 pm GMT to 6 pm GMT, with the option to extend play by 30 minutes. 63 overs are scheduled to be bowled in the day.

Sharing is caring - After England pacers Ollie Robinson and Josh Tongue both took five-wicket hauls yesterday, they faced the classic dilemma of who gets to take the match ball home. Instead of settling it with rock-paper-scissors or an awkward standoff, they both decided to cut it in half. The groundstaff stepped in and literally cut the cherry in half. Given the amount of water on the covers, we might see the morning session get washed out. But hey, at least the rain hasn't returned, which helps the groundstaff to work their magic and get things ready for play. For now, there's no news of an early Lunch either, so let's wait and watch what happens.

The covers stay on as there is standing water on them, which is being cleared out. It will be interesting to see whether we are going to have a prolonged passage without rain or not. Let's shift our focus away from the rain - In other news related to English cricket, Sam Curran has been ruled out of the rest of the English home season with a groin injury. Also, Will Jacks just went through an appendix operation, so he's currently recovering as well. Another big talking point has been that of Ben Stokes and who is the most suitable to replace the extraordinary all-rounder. There are plenty of names going around and Curran was one of them, but for now, it doesn't seem like his return to Test cricket is going to happen anytime soon.

Ben Duckett and Emilio Gay then came out with positive intent, racing to 36 before Mohammad Abbas and Mohammad Ali struck in consecutive overs to remove both openers, with Gay departing for a fluent 33. That, though, was as good as it got for Pakistan, as Joe Root and Jordan Cox came together to steady the innings and keep the runs flowing, adding an unbeaten 64 to ensure there were no further hiccups and cutting the deficit to just 59 at Stumps. The visitors will hope the overcast conditions bring early reward on Day 2, while England will look to build on this stand and turn their advantage into a substantial first-innings lead.

Tongue leaves visitors reeling at Tea - The second session swung decisively England’s way as Pakistan slipped from 97/2 to 150/7 by Tea.
