Commentary

That is it from this game. South Africa move to third with an excellent net run rate after the big win. Right then, time for two unbeaten teams to go against each other. India will take on New Zealand on the 22nd of this month. Join us at 2 pm IST (8.30 am GMT) and earlier for the build up. Cheers!

Aiden Markram says it was a fantastic all-round performance. Shares they knew England love to chase but it was a really hot day and made it hard for their bowlers. Reckons it was superb from Reeza Hendricks and he showed his experience today. On Heinrich Klaasen, says he is a destructive batter and he showed his ability. On Marco Jansen, he is having a great tournament and this game will give him a lot of confidence. Mentions it was good to bounce back after the loss.

Jos Buttler says they are disappointed and are really well beaten. Adds lot of things didn't go their plan in the first innings, he wasn't sure of Reece Topley's injury and a couple of players were not having a good day. Reckons 330-340 could have been a good score. Tells it was tough under the heat however the players still put in a good shift. Could have batted first. Mentions they wanted a good start with the bat but it didn't happen. Says there is no room for error now and have to win all games.

Heinrich Klaasen is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH. He says this is one of his best knock. Adds the heat sucks the energy out of him. England were physically under the pump but a couple of wickets got them back in. Reckons he talked with Jansen to just hang on for a while and tells this award needs to be given to him.  Tells they are playing good cricket and is happy that the players bounced back after their defeat against Netherlands.

...Presentation next...

South Africa couldn't have hoped for a more one-sided match than this. If to be honest, they wouldn't have dreamt of a score around 400 at all. Rassie van der Dussen and Reeza Hendricks gave a superb start and laid a foundation. South Africa did slowed down in the middle but the partnership of Heinrich Klaasen and Marco Jansen completely changed the game. The last 10 overs saw more than 130 runs come. Heinrich Klaasen scored an outstanding ton while Marco Jansen scored a blistering fifty. With the ball, they had the upper hand, Marco Jansen and Lungi Ngidi used the swing, Rabada and Gerald Coetzee too made the ball talk. A comprehensive win for the Proteas.

Till the 35th- 36th over of this game, the game was evenly poised. England were fighting hard to end the innings on a positive note. They would have taken a score of 330-340 but the script saw something else. Heinrich Klaasen and Marco Jansen were having some different plans. England bowlers were feeling the heat on the other hand. Suddenly, freebies started to flow and it didn't stop till the last breath. The game certainly looked over there. England looked done and dusted and while batting, there was no motivation left. As if, they were hoping than working on the chase. However, the last stand just made it clear that it was a belter pitch to bat on but England looked completely off in the chase.

That final partnership between Mark Wood and Gus Atkinson was the best thing to happen for England throughout the game. That stand has kept some respect to their name, not much but a bit of it. England have been absolutely trashed at Wankhede. This is not a performance of a team who are defending the title. Morale drowning performance and England have to pick themselves boldly from hereon.

Commentary

We are all set. The players are out in the middle. Jonny Bairstow and Dawid Malan to open for England. Lungi Ngidi to start with the ball. Let's play..

...THE CHASE...

The belting we saw from Heinrich Klaasen and Marco Jansen made us forget how clinical Rassie van der Dussen and Reeza Hendricks at the top of the order. They laid a good foundation for others to follow. South Africa were looking for a score around 350 but England gifted some freebies in the end. England have a mammoth target ahead of them. They already looked tired under the scorching heat but this will test their character. Does the defending champions have in them to chase such kind of a total? We will find out soon.

England were in the game around the 35th over when Miller got out. England could have bowled much better but allowed Heinrich Klaasen to light up the gas. Marco Jansen too started slowly but once England were off the radar, he used the stage to get a quick fifty as well. England looked completely exhauseted and clueless in the last stage.

That partnership between Heinrich Klaasen and Marco Jansen has not just given extra runs to South Africa but the morale between the England players is completely low. What hitting from duo. Absolutely carnage as they scored around 130 runs in the last 10 overs.

EDGED AND TAKEN! Or is there an edge? Well England feel so but the umpire does not. England review. By the initial replay it seems like there is a sound but not sure of what. OUT! ULTRAEDGE SHOWS A SPIKE! THe decision has to ber overturned. Quinton de Kock has to take the long walk back. That is the start England wanted. Good from Reece Topley too. He was driven the first ball but went full again, got it to shape away from outside off. Quinton de Kock went for another booming drive through the off side but it goes off the outside edge and the keeper takes it. De Kock hit the ground too, maybe that is what made the umpire give it in his favor but the replay cleared showed a gap between gronud and bat when the ball passes the bat. After two big scores, de Kock has had two low ones.

0.14

FOUR! De Kock is underway in style! That seemed more off the outer half but a boundary nevertheless. Fuller and around off, it tails away. De Kock reaches out for it, it goes more off the outer part of the bat, past point and to the fence.

We are moments away from the first ball now! England make their way out to the middle and so do the South African openers, Quinton de Kock and Reeza Hendricks! Reece Topley to begin with the first new ball. Here we go...

Time for the National Anthem! The players make their way out for it. South Africa will sing first and then England.

Picth report - Mike atherton says there will be a little more bounce and it will be a little more quicker than the other venues in India. Finch reckons it does not look like a typical Mumbai wicket, there is a little bit of moisture. Adds batting first is the way to go but the captains feel otherwise.

England (PLAYING XI) - Jonny Bairstow, Dawid Malan, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Harry Brook, Jos Buttler (WK/C), David Willey, Adil Rashid, Gus Atkinson, Mark Wood, Reece Topley.

South Africa (PLAYING XI) - Reeza Hendricks, Quinton de Kock (WK), Rassie van der Dussen, Aiden Markram (C), Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Marco Jansen, Kagiso Rabada, Keshav Maharaj, Gerald Coetzee, Lungi Ngidi.

Aiden Markram starts by informing Temba Bavuma is ill and Reeza Hendricks comes in. States they do not mind batting first, it seems a good wicket, it might do initially with the new ball but should get better. Adds he is not focusing a lot on who he is playing but just looking to do well here.

Jos Buttler says it is a good ground to chase and that is the reason. Adds he is looking forward to this game and they want to give their best. Informs they have three changes, Stokes, David Willey and Gus Atkinson comes in. Adds this wicket favors the pace and hence, they are focusing on that. Mentions they need to commit themselves and they are hoping to have a good day.

TOSS - England have won the toss and ELECTED TO BOWL!

TOSS TIME ...

The World Champions just have not played like champions. They were thrashed by the Kiwis in the first game, they then managd to beat Bangladesh but suffered a shocking loss against Afghanistan. This is a very important game for them, a game they need to win or getting into the top 4 is going to be very difficult. They too like South Africa have match-winners in them but it is time for the big names to step up. There is one good news to begin with for England, the man for the big occasions is back, we mean Ben Stokes is available for selection and England will hope he can deliver in this important game. Stay tuned for the toss in a bit.

Well, all those games mentioned below were quite memorable for the English. However, it is a new day and South Africa would love this one to be memorable for them. They started the tournament brilliantly but went down to the World Cup minnows the Dutch in their last game. Such losses could mean two things, you either come back strongly or find it difficult to get back to winning ways. Well, this South African side has a lot of quality players with a lot of experience and they will need to show character. They are up against a strong England side but they too head into this game on the back of a loss against Afghanistan.

When you talk about South Africa taking on England, the games that come to your mind are the 1992 World Cup game or the T20I clash in which England ended up chasing over 200 in 2016 or Stokes' brilliant one-hander when the last time these two sides faced in a 50-over World Cup. There has been everything, controversies, close encounter, absolute brilliance, when these two face off. So one thing is for sure, we are in for an absolute cracker of a game.

With the World Cup moving along at a rapid pace, every game is an important one and with the results in the last week or so, this game has a lot of importance. Two teams, who are pushing for a spot in that top 4 will be battling it out. It is the current World Champions, England taking on South Africa. We welcome you to the coevrage of this one.
