Commentary
Welcome back for the chase. The umpire and the players are out in the middle. Darcey Carter and Katherine Fraser open up for the Scotland Women. Lauren Bell will start with the new ball. Let's go...
… THE RUN CHASE …
A tough chase awaits Scotland Women - Scotland Women now face a daunting target of 201 for victory. To challenge a strong England side, they will need an exceptional batting performance and perhaps one of their finest displays in the format. Can they rise to the occasion, or will England Women make it three wins in a row? We will find out shortly. Stay tuned as the chase gets underway.
A quick chat - Alice Capsey is up for a word. She describes reaching 200 as a brilliant achievement and praises Kemp and Gibson for the way they finished the innings. She adds that she thoroughly enjoyed watching the ball fly all around the ground. Looking ahead, she believes the key with the ball is to bowl straight, as any width on offer will be punished, while variations in pace can also prove effective.
Scotland Women struggled with the ball - It was a disappointing outing for Scotland Women with both the ball and in the field. They put down several chances and were generally untidy throughout the innings, allowing England to capitalize. Kirstie Gordon was the standout performer with two wickets, while Hannah Rainey and Priyanaz Chatterji also delivered disciplined spells amid a challenging day for the bowling unit.
The batting depth - Alice Capsey and Heather Knight made valuable contributions through the middle overs. Their partnerships ensured the momentum was maintained and provided the platform for a late assault. The real acceleration came in the closing stages of the innings. Freya Kemp and Danielle Gibson unleashed a stunning counterattack, adding 61 runs in just 21 balls. The duo found boundaries at will and punished the Scotland bowlers all around the ground, powering England to a formidable total of 200.
England Women cruise to 200 - England Women produced a superb finish to reach 200/5 from their 20 overs after being asked to bat first. The innings got off to a shaky start as Jones departed for a golden duck, while Danni Wyatt-Hodge was unable to make a significant contribution. However, Sophia Dunkley, playing her first game of the competition, seized control during the powerplay with a brilliant half-century, laying a solid foundation for the innings.

Commentary
Goodbye from here! That is a wrap from this one, where England Women put on a clinical show to seal a thoroughly convincing victory. But the action doesn't stop here, as the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 rolls on with a massive double-header lined up for Sunday, 21st June. First up, West Indies Women square off against Sri Lanka Women at 9.30 am GMT, followed by a heavyweight clash between South Africa Women and India Women at 1.30 pm GMT. Make sure to tune in early for all the pre-match analysis and buildup. Cheers!
The skipper of England Women - Charlie Dean says that they could have been more clinical, but Scotland played well. She adds that the girls were really good and she likes to be the captain of the side. She reckons that it feels great to get a massive total and ends by saying that they will try and win their following games as well.
The skipper of Scotland Women - Kathryn Bryce says that they did a good job, and they came in with an intent, and that was good to see. She adds that the fielding was exceptional, and they have learned a lot from this game. She reckons that the openers set a tone for the innings, and they are excited for their next game as well, and ends by saying that they will play with the same intent.
Presentations coming up...
Player of the Match - Sophia Dunkley is the Player of the Match for her knock of 57 runs in 37 balls. She says that the surface was a bit tricky, but they enjoyed their time. She adds that she feels good about contributing to the team. She adds that they played well and they are happy to get to that 200-run mark.
The task was way too uphill - Ultimately, chasing a target of 200 required a miracle, and the asking rate just kept climbing. Skipper Kathryn Bryce played a magnificent, fighting knock, and later resistance from Pippa Sproul and Kirstie Gordon showed Scotland's incredible spirit. However, the top-order partnerships just couldn't stretch beyond the Powerplay. Scotland's batters kept fighting bravely until the final ball, but fell short and ended with 162/7.
Scotland started well - Chasing a mountain of 201 runs, Scotland refused to be intimidated and came out swinging from the word go. Katherine Fraser scored a fearless quickfire 23. Alongside Carter, Fraser helped Scotland race to a flying start, putting up 38 runs in no time and giving the English bowlers a genuine scare in the Powerplay. However, the breakthrough came when Charlie Dean cleaned up Fraser in the fourth over, slowing down the Scots' early momentum.
A convincing win for England Women! England's innings began with absolute drama as Kirstie Gordon struck with the very first ball, sending Amy Jones packing for a golden duck. But if Scotland thought they had England on the ropes, they were mistaken. Sophia Dunkley led a furious counterattack with a blazing 57, well-supported by Alice Capsey’s brisk 40. Just when Scotland dragged themselves back into the contest during the middle overs, Freya Kemp and Dani Gibson launched an absolute assault at the death. They plundered a staggering 59 runs in the final three overs, punishing Scotland's fielding lapses to lift England to a massive 200/5.

Danni Wyatt-Hodge and Amy Jones open up for England Women. Kirstie Gordon has the new ball in hand and is raring to go. Let's play...
Time for the national anthems - We are all set to begin. The flags of both countries unfurl, and the match officials, along with both sides, stride out in the middle and line up for their respective national anthems. It is going to be the national anthem of Scotland first, followed by that of England.
A quick chat - Scotland Women's Darcey Carter is up for a chat. She shares that she has recovered fully from the injury sustained in the previous match. She says her intention was always to stay at the crease and see the team through to the finish. She adds that it was challenging to keep going with wickets falling at the other end, and that handling the pressure in those conditions was a new experience and a valuable learning opportunity. She concludes by saying it was an emotional finish, as they came close to victory, but she takes pride in the team’s fighting spirit throughout the game.
PITCH REPORT - Charles Dagnall is pitchside. He says that it's 21 degrees with a bit of breeze blowing. Adds that the square boundaries are 61 and 63 meters while the straight hit is 68 meters. He reckons 160-170 will be a part score on this wicket. Anjum Chopra joins him and says it looks like a very good batting surface and understands why England Women opted to bat first. She feels the pitch has even bounce and should allow batters to play their shots freely. However, with plenty of spin expected from both sides, she believes decision-making will be crucial, with batters needing to commit fully either forward or back to make the most of the conditions and build a strong total.
The skipper of England Women - Charlie Dean says that they probably would have batted first. Adds that it is belting pitch and whichever side plays better cricekt will win. Dean informs that Nat is out and Sophia Dunkley comes in the team. Mentions that they had a few good series before the World Cup, obviously Nat is a big loss but the girls are ready for the challenge.
The captain of Scotland Women - Kathryn Bryce says they will bowl first. She confirms that Pippa Sproul comes into the side as they manage a few injuries. Bryce notes it has been a quick turnaround since their previous match and adds that the team is well prepared and ready for the challenge.
England Women (Playing XI) - Danni Wyatt-Hodge, Amy Jones (WK), Sophia Dunkley (In place of Nat Sciver-Brunt), Alice Capsey, Heather Knight, Freya Kemp, Danielle Gibson, Charlie Dean (C), Sophie Ecclestone, Linsey Smith, Lauren Bell.
Scotland Women (Playing XI) - Darcey Carter, Katherine Fraser, Kathryn Bryce (C), Sarah Bryce (WK), Megan McColl, Priyanaz Chatterji, Pippa Sproul (In place of Ailsa Lister), Kirstie Gordon, Chloe Abel, Gabriella Fontenla, Hannah Rainey (In place of Rachel Slater).
TOSS - It's time for the coin-flip here in Leeds! Both captains are out there in the middle now. Charlie Dean gives it a flick, and it lands in favour of Kathryn Bryce. Scotland Women elect to BOWL first.
A quick recap - Earlier in the day, Australia Women produced another commanding display, brushing aside Netherlands Women by 98 runs. Beth Mooney and Ashleigh Gardner struck fine half-centuries before Georgia Wareham's late fireworks propelled the Aussies to a daunting 219/6, a total that proved far beyond the Dutch. Later, Bangladesh Women scripted a famous victory of their own, defending a modest 123 to beat neighbours Pakistan Women by 23 runs, with Nahida Akter and Sanjida Akter Meghla leading the charge with three wickets apiece. The results have added another fascinating twist to Group A, with every point now carrying even greater significance.
Seamer friendly conditions at Headingley - Looking ahead to this clash, the conditions at Headingley are expected to give the seamers plenty of assistance early in the game before turning into a great surface for batting. This makes the Powerplay phase absolutely vital for both sides, and whoever wins that initial battle will have a massive advantage. History heavily favors England, who won their only previous T20 World Cup meeting by ten wickets, but this spirited Scottish side have already proven they can challenge the best. Can the hosts continue their dominant run under a new captain, or will Scotland script their greatest victory on the world stage? Don't go anywhere, the toss is coming up next.
Scotland hunting consistency in middle overs - Scotland Women gave the West Indies a massive scare in their last match, but they will want to iron out a few tactical flaws to cross the finish line this time. While their Powerplay batting was excellent, the sudden collapse where they lost five quick wickets completely stalled their momentum. The Scottish batters need to find a better balance between defense and aggression, ensuring that anchor roles do not consume too many deliveries and slow down the scoring rate. Additionally, their bowling unit will look to tighten their lengths in the final overs to prevent opposition lower orders from scoring quick, costly boundaries.
England adjusting to a new leadership - For England Women, the biggest challenge will be adapting to the sudden absence of their star all rounder Nat Sciver-Brunt, who sits out due to a calf injury. Standing captain Charlie Dean will need to lead from the front, and the team will look to welcome Sophia Dunkley back into the playing eleven to boost the batting order. England's primary learning from their previous match against Ireland is to protect their wickets during the Powerplay, as an early collapse left them in a tricky spot. They will want their top order batters to establish a firm platform so the middle order does not have to scramble to finish the job.
Hello and welcome to Leeds! A very warm welcome one and all. We are at the historic Headingley cricket ground in Leeds. The hosts come into this fixture completely undefeated after securing two consecutive wins, while Scotland have shown tremendous grit with one historic win and one close loss in their campaign. England look to maintain their perfect streak and solidify their position at the top, while Scotland aim to pull off a massive upset to keep their semifinal dreams burning bright.
... MATCH DAY ...
The all-UK affair - The highly anticipated Group Stage encounter marks a historic all-UK clash as the hosts, England Women, take on Scotland Women at Headingley. This is the first time the two countries meet at a World Cup hosted on English soil. England completely dominated their only previous T20I face-off during the 2024 Women's T20 World Cup, comfortably restricting Scotland to 109/6 and chasing down the target in just 10 overs without losing a wicket. With the home-ground advantage and a deeply experienced lineup, England enters the match as heavy favorites. Scotland, however, successfully battled through an intense qualification campaign to earn their spot and will be eager to make their mark, especially after already picking up a win against Ireland Women. The in-form hosts - Playing on home soil, England's squad boasts arguably the most well-rounded unit in the tournament. Their batting depth is terrifying, and their bowling attack transitions seamlessly from raw pace to elite-tier spin. However, with their talismanic skipper ruled out for the next couple of games, Charlie Dean will lead the side and will hope that the other experienced players step up in Nat's absence. The fearless neighbours - Scotland enteres this World Cup as the ultimate wildcards. While they lack the structural depth of their neighbors, they possess individual match-winners who play with immense heart and zero fear and we have already seen what they can do in their win against Ireland. They even game West Indies Women a run for their money and to be fair, Scotland are still in with a real chance to not just cause an upset or two, bit also push for a semifinals berth. Pitch and historical match ups - Headingley has historically been a true cricketing wicket with reliable bounce, but early evening overhead conditions in June could offer the quick bowlers some significant lateral movement. Historically, teams winning the toss here look to exploit any early moisture before the track flattens out into a batting paradise under lights. Historically, encounters between these two sides have been rare at the highest level, with England dominating the win column. However, with Scotland's recent structural development, they are expected to be far more competitive than previous eras. Form (Last 5 completed T20Is, recent first) - ENG-W - WWWWL | SCO-W - LWWLW. Predictions? Scotland’s best chance lies in striking early during the Powerplay to disrupt England's top three. If Kathryn Bryce can produce an inspired opening spell, the underdogs could cause a scare. However, England’s unparalleled bench strength, home crowd advantage, and variety in the spin department make them heavy favorites to take home the points. Who are you backing for the win?
