PITCH REPORT - Sanjay Manjrekar and Mark Waugh are near the deck. Waugh says that the main body of the pitch hasn't done anything at all but some cracks might start to open up and so batting might not be easy. Adds that there is a rough patch which the Australian left-handed batters have to deal with and they need to bat better. Ends by saying it is not going to be easy but Australia should be better equipped to handle it.

Australia failed to get an early breakthrough on Day 2, but Todd Murphy struck twice in the second hour of the first session. He added two more wickets to his tally and got his maiden five-wicket haul. Having reduced the hosts to 240-7 after tea, they were hopeful of wrapping up the Indian innings quickly but failed to do so. India survived the first hour without losing any wickets, but they were pegged back as they lost wickets on either side of the lunch break. Rohit Sharma looked in complete control on a tricky wicket and notched up a well-compiled hundred. Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel got together and stitched an unbeaten 81-run stand to hand the hosts a lead of 144 runs. The hosts would want this pair to bat as long as possible and build a huge lead.

Similar to Day 1, Day 2 was not short of action either, and it were the hosts who dominated the proceedings and were the happier side at Stumps.

Right then, India with the upper hand in this first Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and have taken a massive step towards winning this game on Day 2. Australia will have to play out of the skin to get themselves back into the tie but we have seen some outstanding turnarounds in this particular fixture. The battle will continue on Day 3 which is considered the moving day of Test cricket and we will be back on Saturday 11th February to see what ensues. Axar Patel is up for a quick chat. He says that he has been performing with the bat over the last year and he has taken that confidence into this game as he looks to perform when the team needs him. Feels that he has a good technique and he was focusing on working on his initial movement. Adds that Rahul Dravid and Vikram Rathour rate him highly and he has been working with them to improve. Shares that it is initially tough on this wicket and there are runs to be had once the batter gets set. Reckons that is important to not lose focus despite being set. When asked about their bowling plans on Day 3, he smiles and says that they need to focus on their batting first.

The visitors were unable to get an early breakthrough on Day 2 as Rohit Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin built a nice partnership and scored quite freely. The latter departed after playing a good knock for a nightwatchman and Cheteshwar Pujara was dismissed playing an aggressive shot. Todd Murphy claimed both the wickets in the first session and India went into Lunch trailing by 26 runs. Australia got off to a stunning start in the second session as Todd dismissed Virat Kohli on the very first delivery of the afternoon session and Suryakumar fell prey to Nathan Lyon. Rohit Sharma continued to hold one end and reached his century as he was well supported by Ravindra Jadeja who is having a remarkable Test match so far. The visitors have toiled hard all through the day with Todd Murphy the pick of the bowlers claiming his maiden five-wicket haul on debut and they will be hoping that Day 3 will be much more productive for them as they look for a way to get back in this match.

Having pulled things back in the second hour of the first session, Australia were off to a perfect start in the second session. It was first Todd Murphy who struck on the first ball of the second session to get his fourth wicket and then Nathon Lyon got on the wickets column. However, after those two wickets, the visitors failed to pick up any more wickets in the session. Todd Murphy did come close to making Ravindra Jadeja his fifth victim only for it to be deemed umpire's call on impact. The visitors brought on Marnus Labuschagne to make use of the rough areas on the wicket but he failed to make a mark in his three overs. Don't go anywhere as we will be back shortly for the post-tea session at 2.30 pm IST (9 am GMT).

Session Summary - 75 runs, 28 overs and 2 wickets. Despite the early blip, the second session belonged to the hosts and they will be the happier side going into the Tea break. India resumed the post-lunch session with two of their most experienced players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli out in the middle. However, the latter departed with the hosts still 26 runs away from taking the lead. The debutant Suryakumar Yadav got off the mark in Test cricket with a boundary but departed after scoring only 8 runs. They put the brakes on the scoring in the second hour of play and that began to build some pressure. Todd Murphy was the pick of the bowlers as he claimed the two wickets that fell in the morning session and now has taken all three wickets for his side. He has been really impressive on his debut and has caused some discomfort to the batters. Nathan Lyon has not been as effective and Australia will need to continue staying disciplined if they are to chip at the wickets and run through a strong batting lineup. PITCH REPORT - Ajit Agarkar is joined by Matthew Hayden and he says that the wicket is shattered near the line of the stumps with the surface looking rough and it is like it has a layer of pebbles and gravel exposed near where the ball would pitch. Says that the only thing to expect from the wicket is spin, spin, and more spin. Ajit chips in by saying that there are a lot of runs to be made by the batters as well.

Australia were rocked early, losing both openers for low scores. Marnus Labuschagne, Steven Smith and Alex Carey got off to good starts, but nothing substantial to get the visitors to a challenging total. They also failed to trouble the Indian batters and have only one wicket to show for their efforts. The visitors will be hoping to get some early inroads in the first session. It promises to be yet another intriguing day of cricket. Will Australia fight their way back into the game? We shall find out soon, as the first ball of Day 2 is not too far away...

Despite losing the toss, India were off to a perfect start, with Mohammed Siraj and Mohammad Shami setting the tone for them. In the second session, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja ran through the visitors’ batting lineup. The hosts were equally good with the bat but lost KL Rahul an over before the close of play. With Rohit Sharma at the crease and plenty of batting still to come, India will be looking to build a healthy lead.

Hello and a warm welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to our coverage of Day 2 of the first Test between India and Australia at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur. The opening day of the Test certainly lived up to expectations, and it was the hosts who took the ascendancy at the end. On the other hand, Australia did not have the best of days on the field and will need to start afresh on Day 2.

India are in control at the moment and will want to press their advantage further but it is just the end of Day 1. There is loads of action coming our way and Australia could easily find a way back into this game on Day 2. Ravindra Jadeja is in for a quick chat. He says that he had nothing to do after 2 hours of rehab at NCA and hence he tried this hairstyle. Shares that he was enjoying bowling out there and is happy with the way he bowled. Adds that playing after 5 months is tough but he was working hard on fitness and skills at NCA which helped. Also says that playing the first-class game gave him confidence where he bowled 42 overs. Mentions that he was looking to target the stumps since the ball was not bouncing. Reckons that odd balls were spinning while some were keeping straight. Says that bowling for 10-12 hours every day at NCA helped him. Adds that he was working on his rhythm there. Ends by saying that is important not to think about the injury when making a comeback and that one should just go out thinking it as a normal series.

Australia will be disappointed with their start after winning the toss as India's two fast bowlers claimed the wickets of their openers inside the first three overs. Marnus Labuschagne and Steven Smith did a good job to steady the ship and took their side to Lunch without further damage. India came out in the second session with renewed vigor and took 6 wickets with Ravindra Jadeja leading the charge dismissing Marnus Labuschagne and Matt Renshaw on consecutive deliveries. Ashwin kicked off after getting his 450th test wicket and it was a session that well and truly belonged to India. Alex Carey and Peter Handscomb showed some fight with the former playing a good counter-attacking inning. With the way India have batted, the visitors will be disappointed that they did not apply themselves and build a few more partnerships.

SESSION SUMMARY - 80 runs, 27.5 overs, and 3 wickets. Another session goes India’s way as they have managed to bowl out their opponents and go into Day 2 with nine wickets in hand. They have brought the deficit down to 100 runs and will want to knock it off early before setting up a nice first-inning lead. Australia came out after Tea with two wickets left but managed to add just three runs to their total and were bowled out for 177 runs. Ravindra Jadeja took his fifth wicket and Ravichandran Ashwin added a third one to his kitty after which India were looking for a good start from their openers. Rohit Sharma came out all guns blazing scoring 13 runs in the first over and reached his half-century adding 76 for the first wicket with KL Rahul. The vice-captain departed just before stumps and will be disappointed after getting off to a start.
