Right then, 45 matches and countless days of enthralling cricketing action have gone by and finally, we reach the knockout stage of the 2023 World Cup. No matter which side has more wins or is in form, the only thing that will matter now is which side plays their best cricket on that given day as there are no second chances from hereon. The first of the two big semifinals will be played between hosts India and New Zealand at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. That game will be played on Wednesday, the 15th of November and will begin at 2 pm IST (8.30 am GMT). You can however catch our build-up to the game a lot earlier. Do join us then. Till then, take care and goodbye!

The Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma says that it was always about one game at a time and they didn't want to look too much forward. Adds that as they were playing in nine different venues they had to adapt to different conditions. Says they were very clinical throughout these nine games and many individuals stepped at different times which is a great thing. Mentions that they play a lot of cricket in India but still had to adapt as they were playing different opposition and sometimes it becomes difficult. Says that results do matter to keep the dressing environment healthy. Further adds that they are playing the World Cup at home and expectations will be there but they wanted to play with a lot of excitement and that is replicated in their performances. Tells that when the atmosphere is light everyone tends to do well. Ends by saying that when they have five bowling options, it is always nice to have a few more and this was the game they wanted to see and the paced bowling wide yorkers was also according to the plan as they wanted to test themselves.

Scott Edwards, the captain of Netherlands says that they played two really good games of cricket and gave themselves a few opportunities in other games as well but it's tricky to say whether they played their best cricket or not. Adds that they are comfortable with the style of cricket they play and it was a good tournament to get better for the T20 World Cup next year. Mentions that India showed pure class with the bat and even in the phases where they bowled well, the opposition batters soaked up the pressure and they are a class side. Reckons that they are still a fairly young side and for guys like himself and the others, there are training camps set up.

Shreyas Iyer is the Player of the Match for his brilliant ton. Iyer says that he kind of got a De ja vu as he threw his wicket against Australia but in this game wanted to remain unbeaten and get to his hundred as well and the pill that he took helped him to kick in. He says that the scores he got in the last few matches boosted his confidence. Mentions that the wicket was two-paced and he just wanted to stay in the middle and then capitalize later. Says that him hitting straight sixes is not a gift as he has worked hard in the nets for that and he enjoys it a lot. Ends by saying that he always tries to keep his head down and get into a good position and after that just follow through with the bat and finish it off on his shoulders to complete the shot.

The Presentation ceremony...

Earlier in the game, Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first on a track that looked pristine for batting. This decision was well-supported by the opening pair who put on a quickfire 100-run stand. Then, it was another partnership, this time between Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer that got momentum back for India but Kohli too got out after reaching his fifty just like the two openers. Shreyas Iyer backed up the good showing from the last two matches and looked good with KL Rahul too going strong at the other end. The two of them went berserk in the final 10 overs and racked up a ton each to take India to 410, their second-highest score ever in a World Cup game. For Netherlands, there wasn't much to talk about with the ball but Roelof van der Merwe did stand out from the pack with an economical spell and he even picked up a wicket. The rest of the bowlers traveled around the park with Logan van Beek conceding 107 runs in his ten overs. Coming to the chase, it was always going to be 'mission impossible' for the Dutch but they gave it a good go only land up well short of the target.

This marks the end of a historic World Cup campaign for Netherlands where they finished bottom of the table but did notch up a couple of big wins as well. A team that had to rely on great tactics to match the skill of the opposition and they can certainly be proud of themselves. Talking about the chase, Wesley Barresi fell early but Colin Ackermann and Max O'Dowd put on a decent stand with both getting into the thirties and the former timing the ball brilliantly. After the two of them fell in quick succession, it became difficult to score quickly but Sybrand Engelbrecht played a good anchoring knock and then it was a wonderful knock from Teja Nidamanuru where he hit the Indian spinners for multiple sixes that took Netherlands to the 250-run mark. The other batters too tried their best but were sent packing without troubling the scorers much and they ended their campaign with a 160-run loss.

INDIA REACH CLOUD NINE! The host nation rounds off an unblemished showing in the group stage with a big win against the Netherlands and just like the festival of lights 'Diwali' that is being celebrated throughout India, the cricket team has lit-up the hearts of their fans as well. The win was set up by the batters who put on a fine display and all five batters that took the crease at least scored a half-century. The bowlers had more than enough runs to defend and Mohammed Siraj picked up an early wicket as well. The pacers though weren't quite able to conjure up much and then it was Kuldeep Yadav who broke up a crucial stand. Ravindra Jadeja followed suit and picked up a wicket himself but India just couldn't rip through the Dutch middle order. They tried out a few part-time options and it was Virat Kohli who picked up the wicket of the opposition skipper. Slowly but surely, the bowlers started to pick up wickets at regular intervals and Jasprit Bumrah got a couple of wickets as well just like Siraj, Jadeja and Kuldeep. In the end, it was the skipper who rolled his arms over and picked up the final wicket of the group stage and sealed the win for his side.

Commentary

We are back for the run chase! The umpires are out in the middle as the Indian team can be seen in a huddle before striding out as well. It will be the pair of Wesley Barresi and Max O'Dowd to open the innings for Netherlands. Jasprit Bumrah to start proceedings with the ball. Here we go...

... THE RUN CHASE ...

Right then, India have posted a mammoth total on the board, and with their quality bowling attack, this should be enough runs to defend. Netherlands needs something really special or a miracle if they want to chase this down but we know that they don't give up easily and it should be a good watch. Join us in a bit for the second essay.

KL Rahul, one of the centurions for India is down for a chat. He says that he hasn't got a lot of time in the last few games and it was nice to get some time in the middle as a lower middle-order batter it was nice to get away a few big hits early on. Adds that in the final 10 overs, you just have to go and Shreyas was set and they had wickets in hand and he had to go hard. Mentions that it is sometimes difficult to get away the sixes in the final over, so, it was good to get a few of those away. Adds that throughout the tournament they have been able to play according to the game plan and ends by saying that wicket-keeping is his job and he has to do it well, whether he gets enough credit or not.

Netherlands, on the other hand, knew that it was not going to be easy on this wicket and they were taken to the cleaners in the first ten overs. They managed to pull things back a bit after that by getting both of them out but couldn't really build on that as they allowed the hosts to stitch up a couple of big partnerships. Roelof van der Merwe was brilliant with his spell in the middle overs and also got the huge wicket of Virat Kohli as well. However, the others leaked a bit too much as once again their bowling in the death overs was exposed as they conceded 126 runs in the last ten overs which is a thing you just cannot do if you want to compete against the best. Bas de Leede ended with a couple of wickets and also went past his father, Tim de Leede for picking up the most wickets for Netherlands in World Cups. Paul van Meekeren also chipped in with one but they have a daunting task at their hands now.

The Men in Blue got off to a fiery start with both Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill taking on the Dutch attack and smashing it all around the park. Gill also crossed 1500 ODI runs this year while Rohit became the batter with the most sixes hit in a calendar year. They scored over 90 runs in the first Powerplay with both of them also registering their respective fifties but  Gill was dismissed by a fantastic catch in the deep just as they reached the 100-run partnership. Rohit too got out just after the first drinks break. It was that Kohli-Iyer duo again that took the innings forward with good running between the wickets and also the odd boundaries as well. However, much to his disbelief, Virat Kohli lost his wicket just after reaching his 71st ODI half-century. Shreyas Iyer though continued the momentum and found good support from KL Rahul. Iyer changed his gears and got to another lovely half-century. Both of them set a perfect platform and went hammer and ton in the last ten overs as Shreyas Iyer brought up his maiden World Cup hundred while Rahul also registered a swash-buckling 62-ball century at his home ground. They added a huge 208 runs for the fourth wicket while Rahul got out just before the end while Iyer remained unbeaten on 128 off just 94 balls.

What an exceptional batting performance from India! The Indian batters have celebrated Diwali in their own style with a lot of fireworks on the field. They couldn't quite get to their highest-ever total in ODIs but have managed to get their biggest total in this World Cup and this is exactly what they would have hoped for before going into the semi-finals. This is also the first time that all top-five batters have scored fifties in a World Cup game.

A couple of runs to end! Goes full and wide, taking pace off as well, Suryakumar Yadav has to really reach for it and manages to slice it up and over the point region for a couple of runs. 17 runs come off the final over and India finish with a mammoth total of 410/4 on the board!

Suryakumar Yadav walks out to face the last delivery of the innings.

OUT! CAUGHT! Finds the man this time but KL Rahul has done his job extremely well. This is banged in short by Bas de Leede outside off and he goes pace on this time. Rahul tries to fetch and pull but the ball hurries on and goes off the top edge a bit. The ball flies down to the square leg fence whwre Sybrand Engelbrecht takes a solid catch. Bas de Leede picks up his seocnd wicket and Rahul departs after a big knock.

49.41

Short of a length over middle, this is pulled away firmly toward deep square leg for another single.

49.41wd

Wide! A slower bumper outside off, Shreyas Iyer looks to play a tennis smash but the ball loops over his head and is called a wide.

49.31

Very full, a low full toss on middle, this is whipped away to deep square leg for just a single this time.

49.26

SIX! Two in a row and that's the HUNDRED for KL Rahul! What a sensational knock this has been and the 400 also comes up for India. Pitched up on the pads, right in the slot, Rahul with just a flick of the wrist and the ball is sent flying over the square leg fence for a maximum. Rahul takes off his helmet and soaks in the applause from his home crowd after bringing up the fastest World Cup hundred by an Indian.

49.16

SIX! Wow, that is a huge hit and KL Rahul is now just one hit away from the three-figure mark. Hard length over middle and leg, Rahul stays leg side of the ball and clears the front leg before whacking it away over cow corner for a biggie.

Who will bowl the last over? It will be Bas de Leede (9-0-65-1).

Wide! An attempted bumper around off, a bit too high and Shreyas Iyer just watches it sail over his head.

48.41

Another slower delivery, pitched up outside off, KL Rahul tries to get under it but ends up slicing it high and toward deep cover for only a single.

48.31

A high full toss outside off, Shreyas Iyer can't quite get under it but thumps it down the ground. The fielder from long off runs to his right and manages to save the boundary. Just the single is taken.

48.26

SIX! And again! Back of a length around off, not much pace behind this one either. Shreyas Iyer anticipates the slower delivery and just muscles it away with disdain. This is picked up and dumped over the wide long on fence for another biggie.

48.16

SIX! BANG! Slower delivery, on the shorter side and well outside off. Shreyas Iyer holds his shape, frees his arms and clobbers it straight back over the bowler's head for a huge maximum.

All in readiness for the play to begin! The umpires are out in the middle and so are the players of Netherlands who can be seen in a huddle. Skipper, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill will open the innings for India. As has been the norm for Netherlands, it will be Aryan Dutt to get proceedings underway with the ball. Let's go...

We are all but set for play in the final group stage game but first, the two sets of players along with their mascots will line up for their respective national anthems. It will be the national anthem of Netherlands first followed by the national anthem of India.

Scott Edwards, the skipper of Netherlands says they would have batted first as well but it is a quite a good ground for chasing too. Adds that he is happy with the overall performance of the team as they got a couple of good wins in the middle phase but there were also some games were they have been blown away. Mentions that this is going to be the biggest crowd they have had in the tournament and they will look to put their best in the field. Informs they are unchanged as well.

Rohit Sharma, the captain of India says that they will bat first but there's no particular reason for that. Adds that from game number one they have been trying to be better and it is another opportunity to tick all the boxes. Mentions that he is extremely happy with the way the team has played and hats off to the guys who have put their hands up. Informs that they have an unchanged team.

Netherlands (Unchanged Playing XI) - Wesley Barresi, Max O'Dowd, Colin Ackermann, Sybrand Engelbrecht, Scott Edwards (C/WK), Bas de Leede, Teja Nidamanuru, Logan van Beek, Roelof van der Merwe, Aryan Dutt, Paul van Meekeren.

India (Unchanged Playing XI) - Rohit Sharma (C), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (WK), Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj.

TOSS - Rohit Sharma flips the coin and it lands in favour of him. India have elected to BAT first.

PITCH REPORT - Sanjay Manjrekar is pitchside. He says that the weather is good with a high of 28 degrees Celsius but the humidity is a bit high. mentions that it is the center pitch with the sides boundaries being fairly short at 64 meters on either side and straight it is 73 meters. Aaron Finch joins him and says that spinners can have an impact on this surface and mentions Mitchell Santner who was prepared to toss the ball up. He says that the pitch looks like a beauty and the sheen on the wicket means you will get a monster score. He also mentions that batters can take a bit of time and go beserk later on.

Netherlands, on the other hand, have won only two matches but they have given a good account of themselves throughout this competition. However, they still have a lot to play for in this game as a win here would guarantee them a place in the Champions Trophy 2025. Their batting has really struggle as the tournament has progressed. Their openers have failed to get them the good starts while they are heavily dependent on their captain Scott Edwards in the batting department. The positive for them is Sybrand Engelbrecht who has been excellent and the inclusion of Wesley Barresi into the team was also a right decision as he provides a lot of experience. Their bowling though have been really good with Paul van Meekeren, Bas de Leede and Logan van Beek handling the pace department and picking up a lot of wickets in this World Cup while Aryan Dutt and Roelof van der Merwe make up a great spin duo for them who has enjoyed bowling on Indian conditions but this will be their toughest test and the Dutch will hope to do something special. Will Netherlands do the unthinkable? Or will India make it nine in a row? We will find out soon. Toss and team news in a bit.

India have blown away teams in this World Cup and have the chance to finish the league stages undefeated. They have won eight out of eight and every department has contributed equally to their success. Their skipper Rohit Sharma has been selfless giving them quick starts while Virat Kohli is enjoying one of his best World Cups. Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, and KL Rahul have also played some good knocks as well. Mohammed Shami has teared apart oppositions with some exceptional bowling while Jasprit Bumrah has been brilliant at every phase of the game. Ravindra Jadeja picked up fifer in the last game while Kuldeep Yadav has slowed down but that is only because the pacers almost finish the job before he could come into bowl. Mohammed Siraj also has found his rhythm back and they are looking like a lethal side. They can rotate the side a bit but will also want to enter the semis with a big win.

Hello and a warm welcome folks! It is time for the last league game of the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup. The dominant Men in Blue take on the Netherlands who has punched above their weight in this tournament and entertained all of us. They will hope to cause the biggest upset of them all while the hosts will want to maintain their unbeaten run going into the knockouts.

... MATCH DAY ...

We are down to the last league stage game of the 2023 ODI World Cup, which sees the hosts, India, take on the Netherlands at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The Men in Blue have not put a foot wrong in the competition so far, with eight wins on the trot, and are sitting pretty at the top of the points table. With a potential semi-final against New Zealand on the cards, Rohit Sharma's men would want to keep their unbeaten run intact and enter that game in Mumbai with momentum behind them. The Indian think thank have an interesting conundrum in front of them, which is whether to rest a few players or go with the same combination given that there are not many days left for that semi-final fixture. All eyes will be on the milestone man, Virat Kohli, who will be eyeing that elusive 50th ODI hundred that would take him past the great Sachin Tendulkar's record of 49 ODI hundreds. What has boded well for India is that either Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma has managed to register an 80-plus score in each of the eight games in this World Cup so far. The middle order, consisting of Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, and Suryakumar Yadav, has put its hand up at crucial times, as has Shubman Gill at the top of the order. Even though India lost Hardik Pandya due to an ankle injury, it has been a blessing in disguise for them as they have been able to feature their three-pronged pace attack. The trio of Jaspit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Mohammed Siraj have been relentless upfront, followed by the spin twins Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav, who have been equally good in the middle phase. On the other hand, the only Associate team to feature at this World Cup, the Netherlands, have exceeded expectations by inflicting defeats over Bangladesh and South Africa. They have shown that they are no pushovers and are a team on the rise in international cricket. Heading into the game against the mighty India, Scott Edwards' men have their Champions Trophy spot on the line, and they will need a win to keep their hopes alive. Looking back at their campaign, the Dutch will feel that had their batting clicked collectively, they would have strung a couple of wins more. Their top order has been hit-and-miss, with Max O'Dowd failing to convert his starts and Vikramjit Singh struggling for runs to find himself being eventually replaced by Wesley Barresi. Scott Edwards and Sybrand Engelbrecht have looked good but haven't been able to turn the Dutch fortunes around with the bat. Star all-rounder Bas de Leede has not quite had the impact he had with the bat during the World Cup Qualifiers, but he has excelled with the ball. Other than him, Paul van Meekeren, Logan van Beek, and Aryan Dutt have all done their bit in the bowling department. India and the Netherlands do not meet often in international cricket, and their only meetings have been during World Cups, with the Asian side winning on every occasion. Will India continue their dominance? Or will the Netherlands pull off the biggest upset of this World Cup? We will find out together.
