Commentary
Welcome back for GT's reply with the bat. The KKR players have taken their spots on the field. Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan walk to the crease to open for the Titans. KKR have decided to use their Impact Sub option as they swap Matheesha Pathirana in for Finn Allen.
... THE RUN CHASE ...
KKR to halt GT's charge? A win here will make a top-four finish a certainty for Gujarat Titans, but right now, Kolkata Knight Riders will be feeling really good about keeping their playoff hopes well on track. The Titans aren't generally known for big run chases, but they do have the batting to get the job done. However, Sunil Narine and Varun Chakaravarthy would want to have a big say in the chase, and we might even see Matheesha Pathirana come on as an Impact Sub, further strengthening KKR's bowling. It should be an exciting watch, so stay tuned for the run chase.
Let's now hear from KKR's top-scorer tonight - Finn Allen admits that he got a bit lucky and just decided to carry on for as long as he could. Adds that the Eden Gardens is a beautiful ground to bat on, with short boundaries and usually a very good batting wicket. Feels it was a bit tricky early on before it got better as the innings went on. Speaking about Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Allen calls him a proper player and praises the quality of his batsmanship at such a young age. Finn shares that his focus tonight was on staying clear in his approach at the crease without overthinking. He also backs the bowlers to defend the total.
The Titans fumble big in the field - It all started with a simple chance going down from Mohammed Siraj, when Finn Allen was on just 33, and after that it seemed like a contagious disease as catches were spilled for fun and even the ground fielding wasn't up to the mark. With the ball, things started pretty decently in the first couple of overs and Siraj even got a wicket in the Powerplay. However, there was a complete lack of control in the middle overs and soon enough, the big hits started to take a toll on the bowlers, who served up far too many loose deliveries.
Raghuvanshi, the constant - An innings that saw plenty of big hitting, including a huge 93 from Finn Allen, but it was Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who once again proved that he is KKR's most-consistent performer with the bat this season. Raghuvanshi built a 95-run stand with Allen, where he played the second fiddle, but his strike rate was still up. And when Cameron Green came in and started to hit the ball cleanly, Raghuvanshi yet again tried to give as much strike to Green as possible. However, he just came alive at the death, finishing on an unbeaten 82 off just 44 balls. Green too struck a fiery half-century as KKR ended up with nearly 250 runs.
KKR pile on the runs - Kolkata Knight Riders have enjoyed a very positive output in the last few matches, and they have notched up 247 big runs on the board. The ball was really flying tonight, as the KKR batters hit as many as 22 sixes, as opposed to just 12 fours. For the Titans, it was a difficult outing with the ball and in the field, not quite what we have come to expect this season from them.

Overthrows, and that sums up GT's night in the field! Full in length, a leg break outside off. Green thumps it aerially to the left of the fielder at long off for a single. Sindhu's throw comes in to Rashid at the bowler's end, but the latter slips in the process of collecting the ball, and the overthrow sees the ball trickle away to backward square leg for another single. 12 runs off the final over. KKR FINISH ON 247/2!
Good review! Flatter through the air, on a length, and wide outside off. Green tries to whack it powerfully over the off side, but misses to do so. The on-field decision is wide but Rashid is not happy with it. GT have gone upstairs for a review. A couple of angles come up with the revised guideline and it shows that Green has shuffled before the ball was released from the bowler's hand. However, a huge chunk of the ball is clearly inside that revised guideline. So it's a fair delivery.
FOUR! Oh, Kagiso Rabada has made a mess of that in the deep, and Cameron Green brings up his FIFTY with a boundary, another fine knock from him. Tossed up, full and at the toes. Green clears the front leg and heaves it away to the right of deep mid-wicket. The ball goes flat and lands just in front of the onrushing Rabada, who ends up getting beaten by the spin and the ball goes to his right and over the fence.
Very slow through the air, flighted fuller on middle. Angkrish Raghuvanshi heaves it wide of long on for a single.
FOUR! No stopping Angkrish at the moment! He has shown his full range tonight. This brings up the 100-run stand between this pair. Serves it full and outside off. Angkrish Raghuvanshi nails the reverse sweep over the short third fielder for a boundary.
Quicker through the air, short, outside off. Green hangs back and chop-cuts it wide of cover-point for a single.
Time for the final over. Shubman Gill has a decision to make with Holder, Rabada and Siraj bowled out. Rashid Khan has been given the 20th over. 3-0-45-0 so far for Rashid.

FOUR! Just too easy for Raghuvanshi! On a back of a length, around the off pole. Angkrish Raghuvanshi switches his stance and reverse scoops it over short third for a boundary. So 25 runs from the penultimate over. Gill with a blank look on his face.
SIX! My word, that's well struck! This is Angkrish Raghuvanshi's highest score in the IPL, according to Ravi Shastri on air. Fuller from Siraj, angled at the leg stump and this is a slower one as well. Angkrish Raghuvanshi gets far across off, goes down on a knee. Keeps his head steady and slog sweeps it massively over long leg for a huge six.
SIX! Innovative and mighty effective! Angkrish Raghuvanshi shows his cards early by shuffling outside off. Seeing that, Siraj tries to cannon in a yorker but misses and slips in a low full toss. Raghuvanshi gets under it and scoops it over deep fine leg for half a dozen more runs.
At 139.3 kph, this is speared fuller, on leg. Angkrish Raghuvanshi clips it to the right of deep square leg. Nishant Sindhu runs across and tidies it up in the deep. The batters hare back for the second run.
SIX! Dumped into the stands! A fuller-length delivery by Siraj, into the slot, on middle. Angkrish Raghuvanshi gets his front leg out of the way to make room for himself and carves it cleanly over deep extra cover to pick up another six. That's his 5th biggie tonight.
WIDE! Way too short, outside off. Angkrish Raghuvanshi looks to slash it over point, but the ball keeps taking off and beats the bat. Wide called for height.
Bowls a heavy length, does Siraj, short and outside off. Angkrish Raghuvanshi walks a long way across the stumps on the off side to play the scoop shot, but fails to connect.
Mohammed Siraj (3-0-25-1) is back on to bowl the 19th over of the innings.

SIX! CLUBBED! Short on middle, sits up pretty nicely for the tall Aussie. Cameron Green gets the ball at a very comfortable height and nails the pull shot behind deep mid-wicket for a huge six.
Slower ball, on a length, outside off. Green tries to swat it down the ground, but ends up bottom edging to the keeper.
PUT DOWN! That's the fourth catch grassed by GT and this time, the culprit is Washington Sundar. Very full, on middle and leg. Angkrish Raghuvanshi whips it aerially, but cannot get the bat underneath the ball properly. Hence, he does not get the timing or the distance. The ball goes flat to deep backward square leg. Washington Sundar gets low and plants his left knee into the ground, but drops it in the end. A single taken.
Short ball, on off, with pace taken off at 120.8 kph. Green stands tall and pulls it to the left of deep mid-wicket. Rashid Khan gets across and cuts it off in the deep. One taken.
Bowls a leg cutter, on a length, outside off. Angkrish Raghuvanshi shuffles outside off and forces it wide of mid off to his left for a single.
Yorker on off, Green drills it straight down the ground, but the ball crashes into the stumps at the non-striker's end. It deflects away and they cross for a run.
Three overs left in the innings. Siraj and Rabada both have one over remaining, but who will bowl the third over? For now, it is Kagiso Rabada who will bowl out.

Commentary
Super Sunday beckons - First up on 17th May, the Punjab Kings take on the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in a crucial clash. A win for RCB would confirm their place in the playoffs, while PBKS head into the contest on the back of five consecutive defeats and in desperate need of a turnaround. The game in Dharamsala will begin at 3.30 pm IST (10 am GMT). The attention will then shift to Delhi, where the Delhi Capitals face the Rajasthan Royals. The Capitals are hanging on by a thread in the playoff race, while the Royals are in a much better position to push for qualification. The first ball in Delhi will be bowled at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT). We look forward to having your company then. Cheers!
PLAYER OF THE MATCH - Sunil Narine wins the award for his brilliance with the ball. He returned figures of 2/29 from his 4 overs. Narine says performances like these come through hard work and credits the group for consistently putting in the hard yards, which is now showing in the results. Shares that the message within the camp is to keep going, no matter what the tournament has in store for them. Narine says it is all about planning for the challenge in front of him and not overthinking situations. Sunil mentions that playing 200 games in the IPL for KKR is a blessing and hopes the journey continues.
The skipper of the Kolkata Knight Riders - Ajinkya Rahane agrees that it was quite an eventful game, and adds that he feels tired as it was a lot humid out there. But expresses his happiness with the win and getting two important points in front of the home crowd. On the batting display, he is full of praise. Credits the likes of Finn Allen, Raghuvanshi, and Green, who all stood up when it mattered. Says that dominating a quality bowling attack the way they did was simply amazing to see. On the preparation and mindset, he says the focus has always been on taking one game at a time, and that clarity of intent showed in the way the team played tonight. About the younger players, he singles out Saurabh Dubey, saying his performances in the Vidarbha league caught the eye of the coaching staff, where his talent was immediately recognised. On Sunil Narine's performance, he smiles and says it simply makes his job easy knowing Narine is in the team. He reserves special praise for Varun Chakaravarthy as well. Adds that Varun was struggling with a sore foot, but the courage he showed to take the field and contribute speaks volumes about his character.
Time for the presentation ceremony...
KKR powered their way to 247 - After the toss fell their way, it was a no-brainer for GT to bowl first with rain around. Gujarat, who have been so dominant with the ball in the powerplay this season, had to settle for just a solitary wicket. It was during the middle phase that things really began to go awry for the Titans. It all started with the dropped catch of Finn Allen on 33 by Mohammed Siraj, and that almost seemed like a signal for Allen that it was going to be his day. From there, he teed off in style. The lapses in the field then contagiously spread across the park, while the bowling unit did little to help its own cause either with its inconsistency. Finn eventually fell for 93, but Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Cameron Green capitalised on the launchpad to help KKR reach 247.
Gill and Buttler fought a losing battle - Jos Buttler and Shubman Gill took the chase deep, with Gill scoring at a better rate during the partnership while Buttler was not his usual self on the night. The big overs that Gujarat desperately needed consistently never really arrived, with only 3 overs in the chase producing more than 15 runs. That simply did not cut the mustard in a chase of this magnitude. The final over from Varun Chakaravarthy, which went for 22 runs, spoiled his figures, but his earlier three overs had gone for just 25 runs and played a crucial role in making the chase difficult for GT. His spin bowling partner, Sunil Narine, continued to keep things tight from the other end and applied further pressure through the middle overs.
A brisk start before losing their way - In pursuit of 248, GT raced out of the blocks with 42 runs in the first three overs, but with Sai Sudharsan copping a blow on the left elbow and walking off the field, the momentum dissipated rather quickly. KKR suffered an unfortunate blow of their own as Matheesha Pathirana walked off feeling his left hamstring after bowling just 8 deliveries in his first game of the season. However, his absence was not really felt as KKR managed to steadily push the required run rate higher through the middle phase.
A quick word with KKR's star batter - Angkrish Raghuvanshi says he enjoyed his innings even more because it came in a winning cause. Adds that with the way Finn Allen was batting, his main focus was simply to give him as much of the strike as possible. Raghuvanshi admits that he is not used to wicketkeeping duties and says it is taking everything out of him physically. Says the score reflects just how good the batting surface was and jokes that he hopes to play on wickets like these every game. Raghuvanshi says they often have to kick him out of the nets because he loves hitting balls for hours. He adds that ever since he was a kid, his coach Abhishek Nayar has made him hit around 1000 balls a day.
The captain of the Gujarat Titans - Shubman Gill says that, looking at the pitch, he thought 210 was a par score. He then admits that they dropped too many catches in the field and gave away too many runs in the end. About the pitch, he details that it was good, but the odd one was stopping a bit but he feels they batted well to get to the score they got in the end. Asked whether there are any concerns after this loss, Gill says there are none, but reiterates that their fielding could have been much better tonight. Humbly concedes that they didn't deserve to win this, as they dropped three to four catches. On being asked about the result, Gill says that it is better to have a game where the bowlers have an off day, and the total goes to 240-250 now rather than in the knockouts. It is a timely reality check, he adds further. On their last league match against CSK, he says the focus now is to rest a bit, recover for a couple of days, travel back to Ahmedabad, and then assess the pitch before planning accordingly.
KKR lay down a marker - It was a victory set up by the batters, who posted the team's highest total of the season, before the bowlers stepped up admirably on a ground that is not easy to defend on, but they got the job done in what was the franchise's 100th IPL game at home. The Gujarat Titans let a golden opportunity slip away. A win tonight would have secured their place in the playoffs, but they were made to pay for their errors in the field, while the bowling performance also was not quite at the level they have consistently shown this season.

OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! KKR BEAT GT BY 29 RUNS. In their 100th IPL game at the Eden Gardens, the Knight Riders have marked the occasion in style, dominating the Titans from start to finish to keep their playoff hopes flickering, even if just barely. Short outside off, at 125.6 kph. Tewatia goes deep in the crease and shuffles across, looking to hook it behind square on the leg side. The bounce does the trick, though, climbing sharply and kissing the glove on the way through to the keeper. Raghuvanshi dives forward pouches it comfortably, and that seals the deal for the hosts.
At 127.6 kph, Green bashes the length hard, angles it in and around off. Sai swivels and pulls it off the toe end to long on for a single.
SIX! FIFTY FOR SUDHARSAN! His 6th half century this year and he just continues to pile on the runs for his side. Short of a good length, cutting into the batter sharply and skidding off the deck. Sai Sudharsan moves inside the line of the ball and pulls it over deep fine leg for a six.
Takes pace off, short, on off. Rahul miscues the pull shot, and it rolls down to long on for a single.
Overpitched and outside off, carved away to deep point for a single.
Nips in from outside off, on a good length. Rahul Tewatia is rushed on the pull shot and misses to lay his bat on it. He is struck around the midriff as he is cramped up for room and the ball rolls to the short third region for a leg bye.
Excellent execution from Saurabh Dubey, and he gets a standing ovation from the KKR head coach, Abhishek Nayar. Cameron Green to bowl the final over of the game.

Low full toss, outside off. Rahul gets down on a knee and slogs it aerially and on one bounce to Green at deep mid-wicket for a single. A fantastic penultimate over from Saurabh. Just 5 runs from it.
A moment that Saurabh Dubey will remember for the rest of his life. GT use their Impact Sub. Rahul Tewatia comes in, replacing Mohammed Siraj. Realistically, from GT's perspective, it is now about reducing the margin of defeat from here.
Mohammed Siraj is substituted by Rahul Tewatia
OUT! TAKEN EASILY! First IPL wicket for Dubey and he is overjoyed. He bowls it very full by taking all the pace off, and outside off. Jos Buttler stays put, tries to pump it over long off, but does not properly get under the ball. Ends up getting no timing and distance and offers a simple catching practice to the sub fielder, Ramandeep Singh, at long off. A fighting knock from Buttler, but it wasn't enough in a mountainous run chase. GT are 207/3, needing 41 runs from 7 balls.
Wide off cutter, on a fuller length. Sai slashes hard, but hits it on the bounce to the backward point fielder for just a single. 41 needed off 8 balls.
At just 112.5 kph, this is short, outside off. Sai Sudharsan slices it over extra cover. The long off fielder runs to his right and collects it on the bounce. Two taken.
WIDE! A bumper dug in short and slow, outside off. Sai Sudharsan climbs the imaginary ladder to ramp it over the keeper, but fails to do so. The ball passes above the head height and it is called a wide.
Outstanding yorker from Saurabh, on off. Sai Sudharsan fails to carve it away, and the ball zips past the outside edge by a whisker.
Slower off cutter, on off, on a length. Sai shapes up for a square cut, but chops it down the pitch off the inside edge.
With Matheesha Pathirana off the field, the options are Anukul Roy, Cameron Green and Saurabh Dubey. Ajinkya Rahane has gone with Dubey for the 19th over. 1-4-0-18-0 so far for the left-arm quick.

SIX! Top shot, that! A very expensive spell for Kartik tonight. Full outside off with a lot of width on offer. Jos makes room and creams it over extra cover for a cracking six. Tyagi goes for 0/59 in 4 overs as 21 runs come from his final over. 200 UP FOR GUJARAT TITANS!
Full toss, outside off, Sai Sudharsan gets across to sweep it away, but gets an inside edge on the boot and it then deflects away to the backward point region for a single.
FOUR! That's hit really hard! Back of a length, just outside off. Sai Sudharsan stands tall and swats it across to the right of deep mid-wicket. Anukul Roy rushes across, dives, but the ball speeds through the practice pitches and races away for a boundary.
Decision overturned! A wild delivery from Kartik, a full toss, just above waist height, angling away from the batter. Sai Sudharsan goes heaving across the line, but gets beaten up. The umpire signals for a No Ball, but KKR have reviewed it to challenge the on-field decision. The side-on replay with the Ball Tracking comes up. Sai's waist height is 1.102 meters, but the ball is passing at 1.028 meters. So, it is a fair delivery. And the on-field decision is changed.
FOUR! Dropped and races away! Fuller and outside off, Sai throws his hands at it, only to get a thick outside edge to the left of the keeper. Angkrish Raghuvanshi dives to his left, stretching his hands towards the ball, but it clips his fingertips and races to the fence behind. 56 needed off 16 balls.
SIX! Goes all the way! Kartik bangs it too short and around off. Sai waits for the slower one to arrive, and hammers it over the deep mid-wicket fence for a huge six.

Just a single! End of a fine spell from the spin maestro. Floated up, full and on off. Sai Sudharsan swings hard to go big on the off side. Miscues it off the inner half in front of square on the leg side for a run. Narine finishes with figures of 4-0-29-2. 66 needed from 18 balls.
Slower but the length stays short, on off. Sai Sudharsan stays leg side and cuts it away to the right of Rinku Singh at deep point for a couple of runs.
Keeps it flat and short, on off. Buttler goes for the reverse and mistimes it to right of short third. They cross.
Short and at the hips, Sai shovels it to deep backward square leg for a single.
Out goes Shubman Gill. Sai Sudharsan returns to bat, having been retired hurt in the 3rd over after he took a blow on the left elbow.
OUT! HIGH UP AND CAUGHT! Narine strikes again and continues to weave the web. Pushed fuller from around the stump, around the leg stump line. Shubman Gill sits across in the crease and tries to slog sweep it over deep square leg, but gets a bit of top edge in the process. The ball sails towards Anukul Roy, who shows a good presence of mind. He plucks the ball just a few centimetres in off the ropes and balances himself over his right leg. However, the third umpire is brought in to check for the legality of the catch. A couple of angles come up to see whether Anukul Roy's right leg is in contact with the ropes or not, while holding the ball. But it is deemed a clean catch in the end. Gill is absolutely disappointed and walks back.
From around the stump. This is short, across the batter. Shubman Gill swings for the hills, but plays inside the line and the zips past the outside edge.
STRATEGIC BREAK! The Gujarat Titans need 71 runs off the final four overs, and one of those will be bowled by Sunil Narine, which makes the task even tougher. Kolkata Knight Riders have faltered at the death while defending totals this season, but with one over left from Narine and the promise shown by Kartik Tyagi, who also has an over remaining, KKR will feel confident about closing this game out. The Gujarat Titans have not quite managed to back up one big over with another, but they will believe it only takes one over of more than 20 runs to swing the momentum right back in their favour, and ideally, they would want it to come in the over coming up. It will be Sunil Narine to bowl.

A big dive saves the Englishman! With this, Buttler gets to his FIFTY! From 32 balls. Third half century of the season for him, and overall, this is his 27th IPL half-century. At pace, full and wide outside off. Jos Buttler carves it over point and the sweeper, Anukul Roy tidies it up in the outfield, moving to his left. Quickly releases the throw to the keeper, where Buttler is forced to dive. Angkrish Raghuvanshi whips the bails off, but Buttler is well in by then. Two taken. A good recovery from Kartik, though. 14 runs from the over.
Shin high full toss, around off, at 143.3 kph. Shubman Gill stays rooted in the crease, and heaves it off the inner half. Clears the inner ring and it goes on the bounce to long on for a single only. Ones and twos won't bother KKR at this point at all.
Good execution! Nails the yorker in, on middle. Jos Buttler drops the bat down and shovels it in front of cover for a single. Moves to 48, does Buttler. GT need 74 off 26.
Big swing and a miss! Hits the hard length at 147.4 kph. It lands and spits up a bit as well. Jos Buttler throws the kitchen sink at it, trying to whack it over the off side, but the ball whistles past the outside edge.
SIX! Nicely done! Again, a slower delivery, short outside off. Jos Buttler backs away, makes room for himself and carves it over cover-point for a six.
FOUR! Mishit, but in the gap! Slow, short, outside off. Jos Buttler fetches it off the back foot and pulls it aerially but slices it between deep mid-wicket and deep square leg. The sub fielder, Ramandeep Singh scoots across to his left from deep square leg, slides by extending his left hand, but the ball stays far out of his reach and goes away for a boundary.
Righto, last 5 overs to go. Gujarat Titans need 85 runs from those. Kartik Tyagi (2-0-24-0) is back on.

Stumping chance missed! Off-break from Narine, on a length, on middle. Jos Buttler pushes out in front of his body but the ball lands and spins past the inside edge. Buttler's back leg gets dragged out but Angkrish Raghuvanshi could not move to his left quickly and the ball clipped the gloves before rolling to short fine leg. The batters cross over for a bye.
From around the wicket, short and on off. Gill pushes it uppishly but well away from the bowler to his left. Single taken as the ball rolls to long off.
FOUR! Put away! A rare loose ball by Narine. Too short and wide on off. Gill gets on top of the bounce and slaps it all along the ground past extra cover for a boundary.
Full and quick, on off. Shubman dances down the track and hammers it wide of long off, where the fielder puts in a slide to stop the ball. Another brace for Gill.
Slows it down and offers flight. He also drags the length back, on off. Jos eases it towards extra cover for one.
On a good length, on off. Buttler lets the ball come to him and punches it past the diving cover-point fielder. Cameron Green covers a lot of ground in the deep and slides to prevent the boundary. Two runs taken.
Gill has decided to put his foot down now. Gujarat Titans need 96 runs from 36 balls. The required rate is exactly 16. Still doable, but the Titans cannot afford to slow down from here, especially with 9 wickets in hand. Sunil Narine (2-0-14-1) returns into the attack. He replaces Cameron Green.

FOUR! Hit hard and wide enough! 150 up for GT. Also, the 100-run partnership comes up between this pair. Chakaravarthy switches to over the wicket and tries to keep it away from the batter's arc, bowled on a length. Shubman uses his reach to good effect and spanks it to the right of extra cover for four more. 22 runs off the over, just the kind of over GT were after. Can they build on this?
SIX! Too short and it gets the treatment! A half-tracker by Chakaravarthy, on middle, looked like an attempted leg-break. Gill climbs onto it as he pummels it way over deep mid-wicket for half a dozen more.
FOUR! Up and over! Chakaravarthy attempts the wide yorker but Gill reaches out and manages to get under it as he crouches. Thumps it over the man at extra cover for a one-bounce boundary.
Just outside off, on a length. Gill punches it on the up but straight to Rahane at extra cover.
Seems like Gill's bat has taken a bad hit. He has a look at the toe of the blade and wants it to be replaced. The reserve player is out with a couple of options and Gill selects one. Good to continue.
SIX! Dispatched! Pace on, a bit too short, on middle. Gill takes full toll as he plays the pull off the front foot and it goes way over deep mid-wicket for a biggie. Despite the distance it went, it looks like the ball came off the toe end and Shubman wants a new blade.
In the air... but it drops out of reach! Sliding across off, on a length. Gill plants his front foot towards the pitch of the ball and swings to go down the ground. He cuts across the line of the ball and slices it over extra cover. Ajinkya Rahane turns around and goes after it but the ball drops right between him and the converging fielder in the deep. A couple of runs for Shubman.
Change? Nope. Varun Chakaravarthy to bowl out. 3-0-25-0 so far. GT need 118 runs from 42 balls.

Takes pace off and this is fuller, outside off. Shubman goes hard at it but mistimes it to long off for one.
Fine effort! Delivers it on a short of a length, on off. Shubman gets on top of it and powers it down the ground. Manish Pandey is quick across the turf to his left as the ball gets to him on a couple of bounces. Pandey makes the stop and saves a couple of runs for his side.
Nearly went to hand! Green goes short now, outside off. With fine leg inside the circle, Jos walks across for the scoop. The ball gets big on him and lobs off the gloves but does not carry to Sunil Narine at short fine leg, who moves to his left and mops it up. They cross.
And again! A bit on the shorter side but it is another off-pace delivery, on middle. Jos backs away slightly and swings, looking to go down the ground but does not connect.
A big swing and a miss! Off-cutter, on a short of a length, around off. Jos puts his head down and swings for the hills but connects with thin air.
FOUR! Powered away! Green hits the back of a length, outside off. Buttler hangs deep in the crease and opens up the front hip to access the off side. He stands tall and slams it to the right of extra cover for a boundary.
Gujarat Titans need 126 runs from 48 balls. Something has to give from this over, as the asking rate is inching toward 16. Cameron Green (1-0-8-0) is back on, replacing Kartik Tyagi.

Across off, on the shorter side. Buttler angles it through point and keeps the strike with a single.
FOUR! Oh, Ramandeep Singh has let this one through. Fractionally short, on middle and leg. Jos is on the back foot in a flash and he hammers it towards deep backward square leg. It goes straight to the sub fielder, Ramandeep, who bends to gather the ball, but it bounces and spins past his right knee and goes into the fence.
Floated up, fuller and on leg. Buttler clips it behind square leg to the left of the man in the deep for a couple of runs.
Short and on off, this is slapped to deep point for just a single.
Wide! A half-tracker, down leg. Shubman swings hard at it but fails to connect. A quizzical look by Shubman towards the umpire on wide not being given. He thinks about it before taking the review. The third umpire feels that Gill did not shuffle and that is down leg. There is no bat involved and the ball did not brush any part of the batter's body either. The on-field decision has been overturned to a wide.
Full and wide on off. Buttler reaches out and hits it to long off. They cross.

FOUR! Streaky! Gets the yorker in, outside off. Buttler drops his bat down but gets an inside edge and the ball goes past the keeper's left and races away to the deep fine leg fence.
FIFTY FOR GILL! 5th half-century of the season for the GT captain. Having been there since the start, he needs to carry his team right through, and the need is to up the ante. On a back of a good length, on off, Shubman taps it wide of point and completes a single.
Tyagi bashes the deck at 145.1 kph, on off. Buttler makes room to flat bat it back over the bowler's head. He mistimes it to long on and crosses over.
Slips in the yorker, outside off. Buttler is beaten for pace as he fails to dig it out.
Into the surface, on off. Buttler backs away to force it through the off side. He does not pick the slower ball and is early into the shot. Plays it uppishly but well away from the man at extra cover to his left. Another brace for Jos.
Pace off, angled in, on a length, on off. Buttler shuffles across for the scoop but is undone by the slowness of the ball. He toe-ends it in the vacant square leg region and comes charging back for the second run.
Halfway through the chase. KKR were 116/1 at this stage in the game and went on to score 131 in the next 10 overs. GT need 147 runs from 60 balls. Kartik Tyagi is back.

A bit of yes, no, and Gill is back home just in the nick of time! A bit short in length, outside off. Gill waits back and cuts it to the short third fielder and is off for a run, but Buttler, after taking a couple of steps forward, sends the skipper back. Gill is quick to turn around and retreats by putting in a dive as the fielder throws it to the keeper, who whips the bails off. However, the replay shows that Gill has managed to slide his back in the crease in time. At the halfway stage, the Gujarat Titans are 101/1.
Not that short, on leg, much quicker at 110.9 kph. Shubman Gill opts to play from the crease and gently tucks it through mid-wicket. The call is for two, and by the time the fielder charges in off the ropes, they hustle back for the second run. 100 UP FOR GUJARAT TITANS!
Drags the length again, does Varun. On middle. Jos Buttler gets on the back foot and steers it to deep square leg for a single. The 50-run partnership comes up between Buttler and Gill.
FOUR! Puts it away! At 104.2 kph, short, outside off. Jos Buttler hangs deep in the crease and cuts the leg break by using the pace. Beats the backward point fielder to his right and picks up a boundary.
Drag-downer, outside leg, Shubman Gill swivels and pulls it to deep backward square leg for an easy run.
Around off, at 106.4 kph, on a length, Jos Buttler steers it off the back foot through point for a single.
STRATEGIC BREAK! 18 runs came off the previous over, and the Gujarat Titans need many more of those to keep pace with the required rate. After racing to 42 in the first three overs, they managed only 50 runs in the next 6, and that is simply not going to cut the mustard. Kolkata Knight Riders piled on 136 runs during the middle phase (overs 7-16), and GT will need a similar effort from here. More importantly, one of the two batters at the crease has to bat deep. This is not an easy ground to defend on, and with Matheesha Pathirana off the field due to a hamstring issue, Ajinkya Rahane has a few decisions to make with his bowling options. Well, Sudharsan has his helmet on and is waiting on the sidelines, which is a positive sign from Gujarat's perspective.

FOUR! The captain on the charge! Gill moves to 46 with this four. Bowls it relatively fuller, and outside the off stump. Shubman Gill has ample room to work with. Gets crouched in the crease, and flat bats it over the bowler's head to pick up a boundary down the ground. An expensive start for Roy.
At 96 kph, on middle and leg, an in-drifter. Buttler comes forward, takes it on the full and whips it to deep mid-wicket for a single.
At 91.8 kph, Roy darts it outside leg, on a fuller length. Shubman Gill tries to sweep it away, but misses and the ball deflects off the front pad to the right of short fine leg for a leg bye.
SIX! LAUNCHED! Serves it full and into the slot, outside off. Shubman Gill leans on with a big stride and smashes it over the deep extra cover fence for six more.
SIX! Straight as an arrow! Slips in a juicy full toss, on middle. Shubman Gill tiptoes ahead and does not try to overhit it. Just lofts it over the bowler and clears the fence behind him for a six.
Smart review! Fullish, wide outside off, spinning away after pitching. It goes underground and almost dies on the keeper. Shubman Gill lets it be. Wide called. But Anukul is surprised by the decision and convinces Rahane to review it. It is a fair delivery to begin with. The split-screen replays come up. Gill has not moved, so the guideline remains as it is, and it shows that the ball is clearly inside that. So the on-field decision is overturned.
More spin as Anukul Roy comes on now, replacing Sunil Narine.

Shortish ball, sliding across the batter, outside off. Gill hangs on the back foot and tries to pierce the gap at backward point, but cannot get it past Manish Pandey there.
Switches back to over the wicket again. Full on middle, Jos Buttler whips it along the turf to deep mid-wicket for one more.
Back to around the wickets. On a length, on leg. Gill camps back and jabs it off the back foot to the left of deep mid-wicket for a single.

SIX! Graceful stroke! Narine alters his line and bowls around off and middle, on a fuller length. Shubman Gill shimmies down the track, uses his wrists and whips it nicely over the deep mid-wicket fence for a beautiful six.
Tighter line, on the stumps, on a length, seemingly the carrom ball. Gill hangs back and watchfully bunts it back to Narine.
SIX! A mighty hit and that should get Gill going! Drops it fuller and into the slot, outside off. Shubman Gill picks the length early, gets down on a knee and slog sweeps it over deep mid-wicket for a biggie.

Deceptive slower yorker, on the stumps. Jos Buttler lets the ball dip and carves it in front of mid off for a single.
Hard length, on top of off. Jos Buttler camps back and punches it crisply to the cover fielder.
Angled across the batter, on a good length. Gill plays off the back foot, frees his arms and cuts it to Rinku Singh at deep point for a run.
Oh, no! Matheesha Pathirana did not look comfortable after delivering the ball. He is walking off the field with the physio. Saurabh Dubey will complete the over.
Off cutter, full and outside off. Buttler drives it along the ground to deep point for an easy single.

Rapped on the pads! That is going down leg. Off-break by Narine, on middle, on a length. Shubman is beaten on the block on the inside edge. The ball catches Gill on the front pad but that is turning down leg.
Missed out! Short and wide on off, there to be put away. Gill frees his arms and spanks it hard but picks out Ajinkya Rahane at extra cover.
Full and pushed through, on middle. Gill brings his bat out in front to defend. Angkrish Raghuvanshi goes up in an appeal thinking it is pad first but there was no reaction from Narine.
The 50 is up for the Titans. Shorter and a bit of turn, on middle. Jos nudges it in front of square on the leg side for a run to open his account.
One ball in and Narine opens his account already. Sending Sindhu up the order doesn't work well for GT. Jos Buttler is the new batter.
OUT! CAUGHT! Sunil Narine strikes with his first ball in his 200th IPL game for the Knight Riders. Begins with a off-break, flighted delivery, on off. Nishant Sindhu extends his hands into the lofted hit but he gets no elevation whatsoever. Hits it flat and straight down the throat of long off, where Manish Pandey gets low and takes the catch around his knees.

Drags the length back and keeps it around the off stump. Shubman gets on top of the bounce and punches it straight to cover.
Wide! Drifting down leg, full and pace taken off. Gill misses out on the tickle.
Takes pace off and this is full, on middle and leg. Shubman clips it to mid-wicket.
Good change-up from Pathirana. At 142.9 kph, a bumper, over middle. Nishant Sindhu is taken by surprise and he takes his eyes off while attempting the pull. It goes aerially off the upper half of the blade but drops safely behind square leg. They cross.
Beaten! Sliding across off, on the fuller side at 141.4 kph. Nishant goes half-forward on the drive but is beaten past the outside edge.
A bit of tail back into the left-hander, full and straight, at the sticks. Sindhu watchfully blocks it off.
Wide! Sprayed well wide on off first up. Sindhu lets it pass.
Sai Sudharsan has copped a blow on his left elbow. He somehow manages to complete the run and goes down in pain at the bowling end. The physio rushes out to check him up. An ice pack is being applied to the bruised area now. Gill walks up to Sai to have a chat, who is grimacing in pain. A few KKR players also converge with concerned faces. And oh, Sai Sudharsan is walking off the field being retired hurt, accompanied by the physio who keeps applying the icepack. Okay. Not Buttler, but Nishant Sindhu is the new batter in for GT. Missed out! Tyagi drifts down leg, fractionally short. Sai swivels to get it away but is late in doing so. Gets it more off the gloves and he can't beat Varun Chakaravarthy at short fine leg.
Beaten! Tyagi switches to around the wicket and angles it in, on the off stump, on a back of a length. Sai looks to play the line of the ball but the ball nips away enough to go past the outside edge.
FOUR! Put away! Cross-seam ball, wide on off, on a back of a length. Sudharsan reaches out and cuts it past cover for a boundary.
SIX! Just over! A heart-in-mouth moment for Sai. A well-directed short ball by Tyagi, right at the helmet of the batter. Sudharsan swivels and is rushed on the pull. The ball also catches him high on the bat. Matheesha Pathirana at deep backward square leg leaps and sticks out both hands over his head, but the ball sails over his head.

SIX! Up and away! Green bashes the surface, over middle. Gill dances down the track and gives himself room to go through the off side. He slaps it over cover and clears the fence to get going.
A ripper from Green! Half a shout for caught behind from Angkrish Raghuvanshi before he bails out. Green hits the deck hard and gets the ball to jag back in off the deck. This is on a back of a length, on middle. Shubman hangs back to deal with it but is cut in half due to the seam movement and the ball bounces over the sticks. A good diving take to his left by the keeper.
Much better! Hits the top of off, does Green. Shubman rides the bounce and keeps it out watchfully.

Well, this is proving to be a longish first over from Dubey.

SIX!

Off cutter, short and outside off. Green miscues the pull shot over mid on for a single. 200 UP FOR KKR!
At 126.9 kph, this is dug well short, on top of middle and leg. Green gets inside the line to play the pull shot, but misses out. It is called a fair delivery, and Green sends it upstairs for a review for wide not given for height. Ball Tracking with the side-on replay comes up. Green's head height is 2.034 meters, while his shoulder height is 1.69 meters. The ball passes between his head and shoulder, reading 2.030 meters. So it is a fair delivery.
Hard length, outside off, Angkrish Raghuvanshi slashes it over backward point. Rashid Khan runs across to his left and slides to stop the ball. One taken.
Almost a yorker, tailing on the toes. Green flicks it to deep mid-wicket for a single.
FIFTY FOR RAGHUVANSHI! From 33 balls. His 5th half century this season, and overall, this is his 7th IPL half century. First, he played the second fiddle to Allen, and has taken on the opportunity to fire now. Gets to his milestone by guiding the length ball to deep third for a single.
FOUR! Gloriously struck! Pitched full and around off. Not an ideal length from Holder with mid off in the ring. Angkrish Raghuvanshi gets under it and lofts it over the mid off fielder for a boundary on the bounce.

Pushed down leg, on a length. Green gets inside the line of the ball and clips it to the left of short fine leg. Kagiso Rabada gets around in the deep and tidies up. Two runs taken.
Hang on, there's a halt in play. Cameron Green is hit on the box, and he calls for the physio. Also, the umpires take this opportunity to take the STRATEGIC BREAK. The middle overs have proven to be very fruitful for KKR and those dropped catches have hurt GT very dearly. Allen's thunderous knock of 93 and now, a fiery knock from Cameron Green have set KKR on course to score somewhere in the region of 230-240. The Titans need wickets, and they need them in a heap to wrestle back some momentum. Thankfully for KKR, Green is all good to continue.
Rapped on the pads but that is going down leg. Googly from Rashid, on a length. Green drops to a knee and goes hard on the slog sweep. The ball spins back to go past the inside edge and catches Cameron on the box.
Beaten! Flat and short, on off. Green goes for the cut but is beaten on the outside edge.
SIX! That will only add salt to the wounds. Flighted delivery, too full, on off. Green collapses his back knee to get under the ball and pumps it way over long off for a biggie. This brings up the 50-run partnership between this pair.
DROPPED! And to make matters worse, it goes for a FOUR. Tossed up by Rashid, on leg. Green gets down on a knee for the slog sweep. The ball catches the top edge and goes straight up towards deep backward square leg. Arshad Khan settles under it by moving to his right and tries to take the catch in reverse cup style. The ball bursts through his hands and deflects towards the fence. Arshad tries to prevent the boundary but slips and can only watch the ball helplessly trickle into the ropes.
Floated up, on off, Raghuvanshi hits it down to long off, where Nishant Sindhu is quick across the turf to his right and slides to keep the batters down to one.
A rare over without a boundary for KKR. Also, Rashid Khan (2-0-32-0) is back on.

Holder digs it in short again, on off. Green waits on it and gets his hands high to slap it over extra cover. He does not quite get hold of it and collects a couple of runs. Just 5 runs off the over.
Takes pace off and bowled into the surface, outside off. Raghuvanshi is made to reach out. Slices it off the outer half towards deep point, where Rashid Khan lets the ball drop in front and mops it up. Just a single off the Free Hit ball.
NO BALL! Oh, dear. Holder gets it all wrong. Jason perhaps went for the off-cutter but it comes out as a chest high full toss, over middle. Angkrish Raghuvanshi walks across for the scoop but fails to connect. Jos Buttler moves to his left and does well not to let the ball go past him. Free Hit coming up.
Closer to the off stump, on a back of a length. Angkrish gets his hands through the ball and cuts it hard but picks out Washington Sundar at backward point. Three dots in a row.
Bashes the surface, around off. Raghuvanshi flashes at the ball but is beaten for pace.
Hits the back of a length, on off. Angkrish punches it on the up but straight to cover.
Begins with a full ball, on off. Green presses onto the front foot and pushes it to long on for a single.

Back to over the wicket. Slower through the air, across off, on a length. Green plays a punchy drive wide of extra cover for a run. 17 runs off the over.
Sai Kishore has been taken to the cleaners in this over. Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler walk up to the bowler to have a chat and slow things down a bit.
SIX! Outta here! Green is winning the battle against Kishore. Sai switches to around the wicket and bowls it into the wicket. Angled in, on middle and leg. Green stays leg side of the ball and gets down on a knee to nail the slog sweep. Parks it into the stands beyond the deep mid-wicket fence.
FOUR! In the gap! From over the wicket, Kishore slows it down and this is fuller, on middle. Green drops to a knee and has a hack across the line. Gets it off the inner half but the ball races across the outfield and goes in the gap between deep mid-wicket and deep square leg.
Short and flat, a bit quick too, on off. Cameron cuts it to cover.
SIX! Clean as a whistle! Darted in from around the wicket, on a length, on middle. Green gets the front leg out of the way and uses his long levers to clobber it over mid-wicket for a biggie.

Flat and full, on off. Cameron stays back and turns it through mid-wicket for another single.
Shorter and on middle. This is pulled to deep mid-wicket. One run taken. 150 comes up for KKR!
FOUR! Washington Sundar should have done better there. Looped up, full and on off. Raghuvanshi swings hard at it and slices it off the outer half towards wide long off. On a nagging length, just outside off, Green drives it straight to cover.
Good length around leg, Raghuvanshi rocks back to pull but snatches at it and mistimes it down to long on for a single.
Good running again. Quick and flat, at the stumps, hoicked away towards deep mid-wicket for a couple of runs.
Dropped a bit short and outside off, cut away in front of point for a single.
Allen's fun comes to an agonising end. He goes 7 runs short of what would have been a special hundred. But he has provided a solid base for the middle order to cash in. In walks Cameron Green at number 4.
OUT! CAUGHT! Finn Allen's reign of terror comes to an end, and no one will be breathing a bigger sigh of relief than Mohammed Siraj. Sai Kishore comes over the wicket and flights it outside the line of the leg stump, keeping the length full. Allen makes a bit of room and flicks it high towards deep mid-wicket. There's not enough power on it, and Rashid Khan takes a well-judged catch just inside the ropes. End of a top-knock and also a 95-run stand for the second wicket.
Floated up around the pads, not all that full. Raghuvanshi works it through square leg and smartly turns the strike over.

A change in line from Khan, bowled full and angled well wide of the off stump. Allen fails to reach it.
SIX! Too straight again and Allen has put it away without a fuss. Full and on the pads, Allen stays a bit low and picks it up, dumping it in front of square leg for a third biggie in the over. Allen has moved into double-digits in terms of maximums in this innings.
Much better length from Arshad Khan. Fuller and a bit too straight on the legs, but Allen flicks it straight to the man at backward square leg.
There's a mini-conference going on in the middle. Shubman Gill and Mohammed Siraj walk to have a chat with Arshad. Possibly discussing what lengths to bowl to Allen. Good to go.
SIX! That's clean ball striking from Allen, but the length's all wrong from Arshad yet again. Fractionally short, angled across off stump. Allen hangs on the back foot and swats it flat over cow corner for his ninth six of the game.
SIX! That's just bread and butter for Finn Allen. Short of a length, on the leg stump line. Allen leans back and just swings it mightily over deep square leg for a biggie.
Halfway through the first innings. KKR are in a dominant position, and GT might be chasing a monster if they don't break this partnership as soon as possible. There's not much turn on the pitch by the looks of it. Now then, Arshad Khan is called into the attack, replacing Jason Holder.

Flighted ball, full and on middle, eased away to cover.
Kishore comes over the wicket now and bowls it on a shorter length around middle. Allen rocks back and hits it wide of long off for a single.
SIX! Finn Allen is just dealing in sixes, his seventh of this innings. Tossed up on leg, Allen dances down the pitch and just clubs it across and over deep mid-wicket for a maximum. Not off the middle of the bat, but good enough. That dropped catch is proving really costly for GT right now.
Slightly dragged length, around middle, no turn on offer. Raghuvanshi backs away and punches it square through the off side for a run.
Flighted full, and angled into the pads. Raghuvanshi leans on and works it away wide of long on. The initial call is for two and the batters race back with ease.

Extra bounce! Holder bowls it back of a length and outside off, extracts a bit of a tennis-ball bounce off the deck. Finn Allen looks to hop back and hit it through the off side but misses.
Back of a length and outside off, Raghuvanshi gets on his toes and angles it wide of deep third for a single. This also brings up the 50-run stand between this pair.
Holder just drags the length back by a few inches and attacks the stumps. Allen heaves it off the inner half of the blade down to long on for one.
SIX! BANG! Allen is on fire out there. Pitched up full and on off, in the hitting zone. Allen clears the front leg and whacks it across and over cow corner for a biggie.
Well bowled. Good length, slanted in towards middle and leg. Raghuvanshi nudges it off the inside half of the blade and down to deep backward square leg for one.
STRATEGIC BREAK! If the Powerplay was even-stevens, the next two overs have completely swung the momentum KKR's way as they have managed to score 29 runs off those. Gujarat Titans have been uncharacteristically sloppy in the field tonight, dropping a batter like Finn Allen twice. Only time will tell how much that will cost GT. Allen has already started to cut loose while Raghuvanshi is steadying up nicely, and this partnership has hopped to 41 runs. Turning into the pads, on a good length. Finn goes back in the crease and flicks it away through mid wicket for a single.
FOUR! And that will be FIFTY for Finn Allen off just 21 balls. Finn was watchful at the start but has picked up the pace and will be aiming for a big score. Fractionally short, on off and middle. Allen presses back and powers it down the ground. Jason Holder sprints to his left from long on and slides to push the ball away from the fence. The ball threatens to trickle into the fence and Nishant Sindhu converging from long off tries to prevent the boundary but fails to do so.

DROPPED! A sitter goes down. Mohammed Siraj is the guilty party. Holder bends his back and generates a bit of lift off the deck because of his height. This is around off, Allen stands tall to flat bat it down the ground. Spoons it towards long on, where Siraj takes a couple of steps in off the ropes and bends to take the catch over his right shoulder in reverse cup style. The ball bursts through his hands and drops behind him. Single taken. How costly will this drop prove to be for the Titans?
Slightly too straight, on the shorter side. Angkrish turns it behind square leg and crosses over.

Wide! Rabada spots Allen moving across the stumps for the scoop and pushes it away from the batter. Finn tries to get his hands in line with the ball and angle it past short third but misses. Kagiso Rabada is not happy with the wide call and Gill challenges the wide call. The replays show that the ball was beyond the return crease on the off side and there was no bat involved. The call of wide stays.
A decision that could have gone either way. Rabada attacks the front pad and gets the ball to jag back in off the surface. Raghuvanshi leans across the line of the ball to clip it away on the leg side. He plays all around it to get hit on the flap of the front pad. A loud shout, but it has been turned down. The ball rolls away in front of point and the batters sneak in a leg bye. Shubman Gill has a chat with the bowler and the keeper before going for the review. The angle seems to take the ball past the leg stump. UltraEdge shows no bat but the Ball Tracking has the ball clipping the leg stump. It is umpire's call. The on-field decision has been upheld but GT retain their review.
Review time! That did seem to have kept a bit low. A loud shout for LBW is turned down, and after a long discussion, Shubman Gill does take the DRS. The third umpire checks UltraEdge first and there's no bat involved. Ball Tracking shows the wickets as umpire's call and the on-field call stands. NOT OUT!

On the toss, he says that he would have bowled first as well, noting there is a little bit of moisture in the surface. Feels that the wicket will not change much due to the breeze, but he is unsure about the dew. Jinx informs that Varun Chakaravarthy is back in the side for tonight.
The captain of the Gujarat Titans - Shubman Gill says that there has been a bit of rain around, and it looks a bit sticky. Is hopeful that it will get better in the second innings. Gill mentions that if you want to win championships, your bowling unit needs to do well, and their bowlers have been on fire. On their current form, Gill hopes that they continue in the same way, and they cannot take any team lightly at this stage of the competition. Shubman further mentions that it is an added advantage for teams finishing in the top two, which they will look to do and ends by informing that they are going with an unchanged side.
TOSS - It is time for the coin flip at Eden Gardens. Both captains, Ajinkya Rahane and Shubman Gill, are out in the middle. Ravi Shastri will lead the proceedings. Rahane will give the coin a flick and Gill will make the call. Shubman calls it right. Gujarat Titans have elected to BOWL first.
GT's Sai Sudharsan is up next - On surpassing 500 runs in an IPL season for a third time in a row, Sudharsan says that he is really grateful and happy, but it's all about constant hard work. Adds that they are slowly peaking at the right time, but there is still room for improvement and they will look to get better. On playing at Eden Gardens, he says that it is a lovely ground and such an iconic Test venue, which means a lot to him. On a bit of rain around later in the day, he says that they aren't a team that doesn't plan too far ahead and will look to assess the situation as the game goes on.
Word from KKR's explosive opener - Finn Allen shares that it has been a really good group to be a part of, saying it speaks volumes about the way they have come back. He welcomes the challenge of needing to win 3 from 3 and believes that it helps them keep things simple. Mentions that it has been special being in purple this year, having experienced the crowds who even come to training. Speaking about his approach with the bat, he says that he tries to be still and react to the ball. Reckons that if he starts thinking too much or premeditates, he gets into trouble. Allen prefers chasing as it helps in knowing what rate you need to go at. Adds that the wickets this year have been uncertain, where you don't really know what a good score is, and overall, they have done better this season while chasing.
PITCH REPORT - Aaron Finch says that Eden Gardens is hosting a game after almost a month. He mentions that the square boundaries measure 63 metres on one side and 64 metres on the other, with the straight boundary standing at 73 metres. Eoin Morgan says the ground staff have done an excellent job despite inclement weather over the last 48 hours. He observes a nice covering of grass and believes the bounce will remain consistent. Morgan expects there to be some assistance for the seamers early on due to the cooler conditions and wind blowing across the ground. He adds that 180-190 should be a good score and opines that chasing is the way to go.
Team updates - KKR badly missed the services of Varun Chakaravarthy in their previous match against RCB due to a hairline fracture on his toe, which ruled him out. Though he bowled in the nets in the practice session, there is no official update regarding his participation in this fixture. As for the Gujarat Titans, no injury concerns to speak of, and given they are riding a massive winning streak, there is absolutely no reason to tinker with what is working, unless the conditions force them to make some changes. Stay tuned for the toss and team sheets.
Pitch expectations - And speaking of conditions, Eden Gardens this season has been a pacer's paradise. Of the 43 wickets to have fallen here, 27 have gone to the seamers against 16 for the spinners. That split suits Gujarat rather nicely, because their pace attack has been the most prolific in the tournament this season, 72 wickets and counting. KKR's pacers, by contrast, have managed half that figure. But it is not all one-sided. KKR's spin attack hugely trumps GT's, and these contrasting strengths on both sides could well be the defining factor in this one.
And that’s a century at Eden - The match ain’t even started, mate! Well, it’s not for any player, but a special occasion for the Kolkata Knight Riders, who are all set to play their 100th IPL match at the Eden Gardens, their beloved home. They have overall had a fantastic record playing here, winning 55 and losing 42. However, in the last 10 completed matches, they have won only four of those. And this being a milestone match for them, they would like to make it more special with a win in front of their faithful. Facing them are the Titans, who have been terrific travellers this season, winning four of six away matches. And even across their brief five-season IPL history, they carry a promising record on the road, winning 22 of 34 away games.
Scenarios in the City of Joy - Fortunes can change quickly in this sport, only if there is enough conviction and hunger to go with it. Gujarat Titans are the best example of exactly that. Hovering in mid-table for much of the season, they have since found another gear entirely. Five wins on the trot, and a sixth would not only take them to the top of the standings but also seal their playoff spot while strengthening their case for a top-two finish. Their hosts, KKR, are also in the ascendancy, but the first half of their season was so underwhelming that even four wins from their last five have not been enough to breathe easy. They are hanging off a cliff, with the sword of elimination still dangling over their heads. One defeat tonight, and the road ahead gets tougher.
S19, E60 - Seems like just yesterday when the season started, but here we are. Within a blink, we are into the 60th match of IPL 2026, and this takes us to the Eden Gardens, almost after a month, for a very exciting clash in the making. It’s the Kolkata Knight Riders taking on the Gujarat Titans on a Super Saturday. A lot is at stake, so grab your popcorn and hop along in this exciting ride with us. On that note, hello and a very warm welcome to our coverage.
... MATCH DAY ...
The Titans march to the Eden - IPL 2026 is in its final furlong, and the finish line is getting crowded. No team has punched their playoff ticket yet, and with every passing evening, the math gets messier and the nerves get rawer. Eden Gardens, silent on the IPL front for nearly a month, roars back into the picture for Match 60, as Kolkata Knight Riders take on Gujarat Titans. Every game from here is a knife edge. One stumble, and a playoff spot can be at risk. Two points, several what-ifs - Five losses had KKR's season on life support. Four consecutive wins right after that brought it back somewhat. Well, they are in a much better place than they were in the first half of the season. However, with that loss against RCB in their recent game, they are now right back on the edge. Eighth on the table with nine points, and three games left, there is no margin for error whatsoever. Win all three and the ceiling is 15 points, which, brutally, may not even be enough to walk through the playoff door, as they will need other results to also go their way. For the Gujarat Titans, though, there’s no such urgency. With 16 points already bagged and sitting pretty in the second spot, they need at least one win from the two remaining matches to make it through to the knockout stage. The max they can finish is 20 points, and they would want to ensure a top-two finish to have two cracks at the finale clash. But, it is not going to be an easy ride for them as KKR have peaked in their recent matches, and despite a defeat, they will be primed to avoid the double over them from GT. Bowlers holding the fort - KKR failed to defend 192 against RCB, and badly missed the services of Varun Chakaravarthy, who was benched due to a niggle. However, when both Narine and Chakaravarthy have operated in tandem, the Knight Riders have been a different beast altogether. Three of their last five outings have been bowling-first wins, and in each of them, they have kept the opposition firmly under 170. The mystery twins have made the middle overs their happy hunting ground by spinning webs that few have been able to escape. Narine, in particular, has been downright miserly. His economy of 6.64 is the best among all spinners this season, a number that makes the old fox arguably the most valuable bowler. Chakaravarthy sits second among KKR bowlers with an economy of 8.62, and the team would hope that he is fit enough to feature in this fixture. But silently, almost under the radar, a young fast bowler has been making a serious case for himself. Kartik Tyagi is having the best IPL season of his career, and the numbers back it up emphatically. With 16 wickets to his name, he leads KKR's wicket-taking charts, and an economy of 8.89 in a batting-heavy competition like the IPL tells you he is not just picking up wickets in easy situations. KKR have backed him consistently, and that trust is now paying rich dividends. In a bowling attack headlined by two world-class spinners, Tyagi has quietly carved out his own identity as the third pillar. Wrinkles to iron out - While their bowling has been their strength in recent games, their batting issues seem to be recurring again and again, especially in the Powerplay. They rank among the sides that have shed the most wickets inside the first six overs this season, and not once has their opening pair survived long enough to bat beyond the Powerplay together. Though the likes of Finn Allen, through his 100* (47) have single-handedly won them games, their returns in the restrictions have been underwhelming at best. However, the middle order is beginning to find its footing. Rinku Singh is back in form and looking every bit the finisher KKR need him to be. A couple of half centuries in winning causes speak for themselves, and his presence in the lower middle order gives the side a genuine sense of calm in the chase. Cameron Green, though, has been a bit guilty of not converting his start into something substantial. He has one half-century so far, but has four 30-plus scores as well. Raghuvanshi leads the way - One of the rising stars for KKR, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, with 4 half-centuries, is the only KKR batter to have crossed the 300-run mark. He continues to repay the faith shown by this franchise. Against RCB in Raipur, he produced his finest innings in the IPL so far, and what stood out was not just the runs but the maturity with which they came. He read the conditions shrewdly, picked his moments, and played an innings of quality to tally his highest score in the IPL. This year, he has also been given the added responsibility of being the team’s first-choice wicketkeeper. Trial by pace - If KKR bring spin, GT bring fire with pace. Their pace unit has been nothing short of ruthless this season, and Kagiso Rabada has led the charge with the kind of relentless brilliance that makes him one of the most feared new-ball bowlers in the world. With 21 wickets, he sits second in the Purple Cap race and shows no signs of letting up. Mohammed Siraj has been an equally potent weapon in the Powerplay, and the dominance of this bowling unit as a whole is best captured by one staggering stat. All of their primary bowlers figure inside the top 12 of the wicket-taking charts this season. And with Rashid Khan back to being his uncanny wizard in the recent games, the threat level of this bowling unit has gone up a notch. And as if that was not enough, Jason Holder has walked in and made GT look even more complete. In just six matches, he has snapped up 13 wickets at an insane economy of 6.35. With him being in the scheme of things, GT are looking far more balanced overall. Dominance with the bat - If there is an epitome of consistency, Sai Sudharsan is the first name that pops up this season. In his last six innings, he has four half-centuries and a century to his name. He is among the only two batters, along with Heinrich Klaasen to have scored over 500 runs this year. Shubman Gill has not been far behind either, and together the two have made batting look like the simplest thing in the world. What sets them apart is not the power or the aggression, it is the elegance. You will not see either of them trying to muscle the ball in anger or throw their wicket away needlessly. It is proper, textbook cricket, clean hits, correct positions, and a deep understanding of what the situation demands. While Jos Buttler has been quiet in recent outings, the sheer dominance of the opening pair has meant it has barely registered as a concern. And Buttler being Buttler, one good day is all it takes for him to completely take a game away from the opposition. You write him off at your own risk. Further down, the middle order is starting to look a lot less like a weak, vulnerable link. Nishant Sindhu has chipped in with decent returns since being slotted in, and Washington Sundar has been quietly excellent, with three scores above 30, including a match-winning fifty against SRH as well. Team form (Last 5 completed IPL games, recent first) - KKR - LWWWW | GT - WWWWW. What to expect? It is the peak of an Indian summer, and the pitches are behaving accordingly. The heat has been relentless, and the surfaces have started to crack and dry up as May progresses. That naturally tilts the balance towards the bowlers. And in these conditions, Narine becomes an even more potent threat than usual. And with a bit of rain in the forecast during match hours, expect the bowlers to have a bigger say. At Eden Gardens, he is not just a bowler, he is an institution. With 75 wickets at this venue, he is the highest wicket-taker at any single venue in IPL history, and no other bowler is anywhere close to that number. And if Chakravarthy gets the all-clear and takes his place alongside Narine, GT will have a real job on their hands deterring this spin double act. Which also means it brings the likes of Rashid Khan on the center stage as well. He is the 9th highest wicket-taker vs KKR with 20 wickets against this opposition in his IPL career, and has the most wickets by any GT bowler against KKR as well. What do the records say? And if that was not enough to chew on, history is not exactly on KKR's side. They have not beaten GT since 2023, and the overall head-to-head record tells a lopsided story, 4-1 in GT's favour. Even at Eden Gardens, a venue where KKR are usually a formidable force, GT have walked away with both encounters. For KKR, this is not just a must-win game in terms of the points table. It is also a chance to finally settle an old score.
