Right then, that is all from this one-sided affair as Rajasthan pick up a crucial win away from home. Kolkata were really disappointing in this game in all aspects of the game and will want to show their best form in the remaining two games. The action in the 16th edition of the Indian T20 League continues on Friday, 12th of May, as five-time champions Mumbai host the reigning champions Gujarat at the Wankhede Stadium. That game will start at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT) but do join us for the build-up of that game well in advance. Until then, cheers and goodbye!

Yashasvi Jaiswal is the Player of the Match for scoring a match-winning knock of 98 in 47 balls with 12 fours and 5 sixes. He says that it is always the plan in his head to go out there and play well so he is more happy with the win. Explains that he only thinks about the process and he trusts himself to do the job. Adds that he wants to go out there and express himself. When asked about his favorite shot in this inning, he says that it was the shot that he played to win the game because it is his dream to finish games for his side. Adds that he is blessed and grateful for his opportunity. Informs that Sanju Samson told him that they should look at increasing the net run rate and they went hard at the bowlers. About Jos Buttler's run out, he says that such things happen in cricket and no one does it purposely. Reckons that it made him more responsible to play his inning well. Ends by saying that the Indian T20 League is a great platform where young players get exposure by playing with some great players.

Sanju Samson, the skipper of Rajasthan says that he did not have to do anything today and just put bat to ball. On Yashasvi Jaiswal's innings, he says that they are used to it now and he enjoys batting in the Powerplay. On Yuzvendra Chahal, he says that it is time to give him the tag of legend. Mentions that he doesn't have to speak to him and he knows what to do. Adds that he bowls at the death as well and says that they are very lucky to have him in the franchise. States that they have two more quarter-finals to play and the pressure is never off in the Indian T20 League. Reckons that each game and each over is important here. Also says that you can understand how good the environment is when Jos Buttler throws his wicket away for a youngster like Yashasvi Jaiswal. Ends by saying that he is very happy with this win but they have a few more matches to go.

Nitish Rana, the skipper of Kolkata starts by applauding Yashasvi Jaiswal for his knock and mentions that there are days in every player's career when everything goes in his favor. Reckons that on this wicket 180 was a par score. Feels that there were mistakes in the batting effort which was the reason for them losing out on two points. On his plan to bowl the first over, he says that Yashasvi Jaiswal has been batting well this season and the plan was to bowl a part-timer against him but it did not pay off and such things can happen in the game.

Time for the presentations...

Trent Boult did early damage after his captain won the toss taking two wickets but the star of Rajasthan's bowling effort was Yuzvendra Chahal who took four wickets for 25 runs in his four overs. KM Asif and Sandeep Sharma took one wicket each and for Kolkata, it was Venkatesh Iyer who helped them get close to the 150-run mark with a half-century. The total was never going to be enough for the hosts and needed to start well with the ball but the onslaught against Nitish Rana proved to be too brutal for them to overcome.

Yashasvi Jaiswal would have been smacking his lips when he saw Nitish Rana grab the ball to begin proceedings and for a batter who has not been dismissed by spin through this edition, he was in for a treat. He scored two sixes and three fours in the first over and the game looked lost for the hosts from that moment itself. The young opener had no plans to stop as he reached his half-century in just 13 balls creating a record for the fastest half-century in the history of the Indian T20 League. He remained unbeaten on 98 in 47 deliveries and Sanju Samson played the perfect supporting role scoring 48 runs in 29 balls as the two put on a 121-run unbroken stand. Jos Buttler was unfortunately run out on a duck due to some misunderstanding but Yashasvi Jaiswal did not allow that to play in his head as he helped his side achieve the target with ease.

Yashasvi Jaiswal is making a mark on the biggest stage! It is time for everyone to stand up and notice this remarkable talent that has come through the ranks of Indian cricket! Rajasthan have made a mockery of this run chase as they have got over the finish line with 9 wickets in hand and 41 balls to spare. Rajasthan move third on the table and look well placed now to make it to the playoffs but Kolkata find their qualification hopes hanging by a thread. Nitish Rana will have to look within himself as he got his plans all wrong when he decided to open the bowling and conceded 26 runs in the first over. Rajasthan never looked back after that as all the Kolkata bowlers went wicketless and Andre Russell contributed with a run out early in the inning. They will have to go hard now in their last two games and pray for other results to go their way.

FOUR! THAT'S IT! Yashasvi Jaiswal finishes the game with a boundary! Shardul Thakur bowls a low full toss, outside off from 'round the wicket, Yashasvi Jaiswal walks across and sweeps this one to the left of square leg for four more runs. Jaiswal remains unbeaten two short of his century but he looks absolutely pumped with this win. All smiles in the dugout of Rajasthan as win by 9 wickets!

Commentary

We are back for Rajasthan's reply. Kolkata players are seen in a huddle near the ropes. The two Rajasthan openers make their way out to the middle and they are joined by the Kolkata players. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler will open the innings for Rajasthan. Nitish Rana has the new ball and will start the proceedings for Kolkata.

... THE RUN CHASE ...

Right then, Rajasthan will be the happier of the two sides at the halfway mark. Having said that, this is still a tricky wicket and Sanju Samson and Co. will need to bat smartly if they are to get over the line here. On the other hand, Kolkata would be somewhat disappointed with this batting effort but they have the resources to defend this total. An exciting second half awaits us...

Yuzvendra Chahal is handed the Purple Cap by his teammate Shimron Hetmyer. He says that on this pitch his plans were to not give easy boundaries by keeping it away from the batters and it was a slow wicket so he wanted to maintain control from the start. Mentions that when he started it was with Mumbai and it has been quite a journey since then with lots of ups and downs. Adds that whatever he has learnt has been from his downfalls. Ends by saying that the focus is to win as this game is like a quarterfinal and their remaining three games are crucial.

Rajasthan bowlers have certainly vindicated their skipper's decision of bowling first and how. It was Trent Boult who set the tone for the visitors, dismissing both openers for low scores. The rest of the bowling unit stepped up and tightened the screws during the middle overs. As he always does, Yuzvendra Chahal delivered a much-needed breakthrough for Rajasthan and accounted for Nitish Rana. By doing so, he became the all-time leading wicket-taker in the Indian T20 League's history. The visitors kept chipping in with wickets at regular intervals and ensured that they finished on a high. Yuzvendra Chahal was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4 for 25 from his four overs.

Kolkata fail to finish on a high and they will feel that they are at least 10-15 runs short. After Kolkata were asked to bat first, Jason Roy and Rahmanullah Gurbaz got going straighaway but could not carry on to get a big score. Venkatesh Iyer and Nitish Rana then got together and started a repair job for Kolkata. The boundaries were hard to come but the pair kept the scoreboard ticking with ones and twos during the 48-run stand. Nitish Rana and Andre Russell departed in quick succession but Venkatesh Iyer stood strong and stroked 42-ball 57. However, his departure meant Kolkata were not able to maximize as they would have liked towards the back end of the innings.

Ends up hitting it straight down the throat of Joe Root at long off who takes another catch with absolute ease.

We are all set for the game to begin as the umpires make their way out to the middle. The Rajasthan players are in a huddle before dispersing and taking their respective positions on the field. Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Jason Roy will open the innings for Kolkata and will be looking for a good start. Trent Boult has the new ball in his hand and will begin proceedings. Let's play...

Nitish Rana, the skipper of Kolkata, says that he is happy with this pitch. Mentions that it's a new day and they are taking one game at a time. Informs that Anukul Roy comes in for Vaibhav Arora. Reckons that the pitch is on the drier side and hence they have added a spinner and an all-rounder. Ends by saying that they do not have a target in mind but hopes to score 10 runs more than the expected score.

Sanju Samson, the captain of Rajasthan, says that will like to bowl first. Mentions that it is a long tournament and explains that the plans keep changing so if they go according to this pitch, they would like to field first. Informs that Trent Boult comes in place of Kuldip Yadav and KM Asif comes in place of Murugan Ashwin. Adds that Joe Root is the third spin bowling option and also bats at number 4. Claims that the nature of this format and this tournament is that no matter what steps you take, the results could go against you. Ends by saying that the morale in the team is up and despite the close losses, they need to move on.

Impact Players nominated by Rajasthan - Donovan Ferreira, Devdutt Padikkal, Riyan Parag, Murugan Ashwin and Navdeep Saini.

Rajasthan (Playing XI) - Jos Buttler, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson (C/WK), Joe Root, Dhruv Jurel, Shimron Hetmyer, Ravichandran Ashwin, Trent Boult (In for Kuldip Yadav), Sandeep Sharma, KM Asif, Yuzvendra Chahal.

Kolkata (Playing XI) - Rahmanullah Gurbaz (WK), Jason Roy, Venkatesh Iyer, Nitish Rana (C), Andre Russell, Rinku Singh, Sunil Narine, Shardul Thakur, Anukul Roy, Harshit Rana, Varun Chakaravarthy.

TOSS - The two captains are out in the middle. The coin toss lands in the favour of Sanju Samson and Rajasthan have opted to BOWL first.

PITCH REPORT - Danny Morrison and Rohan Gavaskar are near the deck. Morrison starts by informing that straight boundaries here are longer than square ones. Gavaskar says that he loves the look of this wicket and shares that this is the same pitch which was used for the last game played at this venue. Mentions that Kolkata spinners were successful in extracting some turn in that game and reckons that it will be important to bowl at the right lengths. Ends by saying there are runs to be had on this wicket and feels that both Kolkata and Rajasthan spinners will play a part.

On the other hand, Rajasthan are falling off the pace big time and are on a three-match losing streak. Sanju Samson and Co. will hope to return to winning ways and by doing so, stay afloat in the competition. As has been the case all season, they will heavily rely on their top order in this crucial clash as well. While defending against Hyderabad, their bowlers let it slip from a winning position. They will look to rectify the errors and perform better against the strong batting unit of Kolkata. Who are you backing to come out on top? Stick around as the toss and team news is coming up shortly...

As far as the hosts, Kolkata, are concerned, they have found form just at the right time in the tournament. They are on a two-game winning streak and are aiming for a third straight win. In the last outing, their bowlers were on top of the game and will need to put in another complete performance this evening as well. With the bat, Nitish Rana truly led from the front against Punjab and will expect other batters to put their hands up in this fixture.

Hello and a warm welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to our coverage of match number 56 of the 2023 Indian T20 League, where Kolkata take on Rajasthan at the Eden Gardens. This is going to be a clash between teams placed 5th and 6th in the standings and a win here for either side will help them climb to the 3rd spot.

... MATCH DAY …

The race for the top four has heated up in the Indian T20 League 2023. The 56th game between Kolkata and Rajasthan will be an important contest for both teams, stuck on 10 points. Kolkata defeated Punjab in the last game, and that too on the last ball of the match to keep their hopes alive while Rajasthan threw away a game they should have won, going down against Hyderabad. This game will be played at Eden Gardens, where we have seen huge totals this season and can expect another run-fest. Kolkata have had their fair share of problems with their bowling which still looks a bit inconsistent. Their trio of spinners, Sunil Narine, Varun Chakaravarthy, and Suyash Sharma have done well for them with Chakaravarthy being the leading wicket-taker for them but the pacers have been one of the most expensive units so far and that has cost them a few games. After getting Jason Roy at the top, their batting has improved as he and Rahmanullah Gurbaz make up a deadly opening duo. Nitish Rana, the skipper has been among the runs but the form and fitness of Venkatesh Iyer is a concern for them. Another positive thing is that Andre Russell has found his touch again and was crucial in their win against Punjab while in Rinku Singh they have found another fantastic finisher. The way they won their previous game should give them a lot of confidence and they would hope to get another important win in front of the home crowd. Rajasthan, on the other hand, have their own fiery openers with Jos Buttler combining his experience with the youthful exuberance of Yashasvi Jaiswal who has been in top form. The former did struggle for a while but found his old form in the last game while Sanju Samson also played a smashing knock and looks dangerous too. They have Shimron Hetmyer and talented youngster, Dhruv Jurel in their middle order while Joe Root and Devdutt Padikkal can be the players to hold their batting unit. Their bowling has been a bit hot and cold as Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin have done very well in the middle overs to get crucial breakthroughs but just like the home team, their pacers have been inconsistent. Sandeep Sharma wouldn't be able to forget the last match as his No Ball on the final delivery snatched the victory away from them and he will be eager to make amends for his team in this game. They have gone down in the last few games and are losing momentum at the wrong time while Kolkata have made a good comeback in the tournament and will look to continue it but they know it won't be easy at all. These two sides have played some of the most exciting matches in the history of the league and we are surely in for another thrilling contest. Let's see who comes out on top.
