Right then, Mumbai have won on a special day, wearing the women's team jersey and playing in front of 19000 young girls! They could not have written a better script! The action in the Indian T20 League continues as we have a rematch of the last year's final. Gujarat are hosting Rajasthan at the Narendra Modi Stadium and the game is underway. Do switch tabs and catch the action. From here, goodbye and cheers!

The Player of the Match award has been given to Venkatesh Iyer despite being in the losing team for his remarkable 104 in just 51 deliveries as he proved to be a lone fighter in the visitors' batting order.

The Kolkata bowlers were under the gun right from the word go and were unable to put any sort of pressure on the batters. They lacked discipline and conceded far too many boundary deliveries with only Suyash Sharma coming out of this tie with something to be proud of. He claimed two wickets for 27 runs in his four overs with Lockie Ferguson, Varun Chakaravarthy, and Shardul Thakur chipping in with one wicket each towards the end. They will be disappointed they could not keep Venkatesh Iyer on the winning side after his remarkable century in the first inning.

Mumbai pulled off a surprise in the run-chase by bringing on Rohit Sharma as an Impact Player and he put on a 65-run partnership with Ishan Kishan for the first wicket. He was dismissed after getting off to a start but Ishan went on to score an attacking half-century. Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma played well through the middle overs and got the team close to the finish line. Suryakumar Yadav fell seven runs short of his fifty but Tim David played the role of a finisher to perfection and got his side over the finish line with 14 balls to spare.

This has been a comprehensive win by Mumbai! They have absolutely nailed this run chase and ascertained their superiority over this opposition with their 23rd win in 32 encounters. They now have consecutive wins and the momentum is back in the favour of the hosts after a poor start to their campaign. Kolkata have now lost two consecutive games after the remarkable rescue job pulled off by Rinku Singh and will want need to figure out what is going wrong at the earliest.

OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Lockie Ferguson gets a wicket now! He bangs this onto the pitch and around off, Nehal Wadhera looks to cut it away, but misses and Rahmanullah Gurbaz collects it behind the stumps. Lockie Ferguson appeals for it, but Gurbaz is not interested. However, Nitish Rana goes for the reveiw and UltraEdge shows a spike when the ball is close to the bat. The on-field call is changed and Nehal Wadhera has to make that long walk back. Still two runs neeeded to win!

17.14

Commentary

We are back for the run chase as the umpires make their way out to the middle. We are in for a big surprise here as Rohit Sharma is padded up and waiting at the boundary line. The Kolkata players are spreading out and taking their fielding positions. Yes... it is confirmed. Rohit Sharma comes in as the Impact Player for Mumbai in place of Riley Meredith and will open the inning with Ishan Kishan. Kolkata have also used their Impact Player option and Suyash Sharma is on the field in place of Venkatesh Iyer. Umesh Yadav has the new ball in his hand and will begin proceedings. Let's go...

... THE RUN CHASE ...

Right then, Kolkata have posted a fighting total on the board, but will need bowl extremely well to defend it. Mumbai will think that they have done a good job and with the momentum on their side, they will confident of gunning this down. It will be an exciting chase to watch nonetheless. Let's see how it unfolds.

The man of the moment, Venkatesh Iyer says that he feels great as coming to Mumbai and playing is special and getting a century is even more special. Mentions that the job is only half done and they need to bowl well. Claims that the one thing particular that he is doing different is playing for the team and adds that he plays how he has been asked to play so he focuses on what he has been told. Puts the Orange Cap on and informs that the cutters are holding up in the pitch and they have good spinners so they will look to exploit the condition. Hopes to take early wickets and put pressure on the batters. Ends by saying that he has been working closely with Abhiskek Nayar and he is not working on only batting but his personality as well.

Mumbai, on the other hand were hot and cold with their bowling effort. They got the early breakthrough, but could not stop the run flow. Their spin duo of Piyush Chawla and Hrithik Shokeen were brilliant who did pick up wickets and also were able to keep the batters quiet. However, nothing worked against Venkatesh Iyer for them, but they were able to pull things back in the death overs nicely and they will be happy with that. Arjun Tendulkar bowled two overs on his debut, and looked decent, but did not get any wickets while everyone else got into the wicket's column with Shokeen picking up two wickets.

Kolkata did not get off to a good start as they lost a wicket quite early, but Venkatesh Iyer showed attacking intent from the very first ball and used the Powerplay well. He lost Rahmanullah Gurbaz too who could not time the ball at all, and Nitish Rana also could not stick around for long. However, Iyer continued to attack from the other end and the wickets did not effect him at all. He became only the second batter for Kolkata to score a hundred after Brendon McCullum who did it in the first ever game of this tournament. He finished with 104 runs off just 51 balls, but after his dismissal they lost their way a bit, and with the help of a quick cameo from Andre Russell, they got to a fighting total.

Take a bow, Venkatesh Iyer! He becomes the first Indian batter to score a hundred in the Indian T20 League in this season. It was an excellent knock from him, but he did not really get that much support from the other batters as the rest scored just 81 runs. Mumbai were really good in the death overs and only conceded 45 runs in the last five overs and will happy to restrict Kolkata under 200.

We are all set for the game to begin as the umpires make their way out to the middle. The Mumbai players walk onto the field and take their respective fielding positions. Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Narayan Jagadeesan will open the inning for Kolkata and will want to get a good partnership going. Arjun Tendulkar has the new ball in his hand and will begin proceedings. Let's play...

Nitish Rana, the captain of Kolkata says that they would have batted first anyways. Adds that the wicket here has always been good for batting, but tells that it is a bit dry and there may be some turn in the second innings. Reckons a score around 180 would be a good total. Informs they are playing the same team that played while chasing in the previous game.

Suryakumar Yadav, the stand-in skipper for Mumbai says that he will love to bowl first as the wicket seems dry and the ball will come onto the bat better in the second inning. Informs that Rohit Sharma is missing due to a stomach bug. Mentions that they are looking to do the same like what they have been doing. Reckons that it is a special day in front of all the little girls and they want to put a show.

Impact Players - Rohit Sharma, Ramandeep Singh, Arshad Khan, Vishnu Vinod, Kumar Kartikeya.

Mumbai (Playing XI) - Cameron Green, Ishan Kishan (WK), Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav (C), Tim David (In place  of Arshad Khan), Nehal Wadhera, Arjun Tendulkar (In place of Rohit Sharma), Hrithik Shokeen, Piyush Chawla, Duan Jansen (in place of Jason Behrendorff), Riley Meredith.

Impact Players for Kolkata - Mandeep Singh, Suyash Sharma, Anukul Roy, Vaibhav Arora, David Wiese.

Kolkata (Playing XI) - Rahmanullah Gurbaz (WK), Narayan Jagadeesan, Venkatesh Iyer (In place of Suyash Sharma), Sunil Narine, Nitish Rana (C), Andre Russell, Rinku Singh, Shardul Thakur, Lockie Ferguson, Umesh Yadav, Varun Chakaravarthy.

Toss - The coin goes up in the air and lands in favour of Suryakumar Yadav. Mumbai have decided to BOWL first.

It is interesting to note that the Mumbai players will be donning the women's franchise jersey in this game to commemorate ESA (Education and Sports for All) Day which was on the 15th of April. The message is loud and clear as they wish to celebrate the incredible women in sports and life. Harmanpreet Kaur, the winning captain of the inaugural Indian Women League will be present at the toss in this game.

Jason Roy has a few words to share. He says that they have had a few good games and the players are pretty pumped up for this game. Mentions that they have been mainly training and travelling and it can be for several hours in Kolkata. Claims that he can sit on his bum if he wants but thought that he would make the most of my time here. Ends by saying that he is enjoying my game and falling in love with his batting once again so hopefully he can get a game soon.

Kolkata, on the other hand, have won two extraordinary games with the heroics of Shardul Thakur and Rinku Singh, but they have been inconsistent too. Their batting has been good and all of them have contributed in some way or the other, but the form of Andre Russell is a major concern for them, and he limped off in the last game too, so it will interesting to see whether he plays or not. Their worry is also their bowling department as they have been one of the most expensive units and they will need to think about changing some personnel to get better results. They also have Jason Roy in their squad, and it remains to be seen whether they can find a balanced combination with him. They know that this fixture heavily favours the hosts, but they will try to give their best to get back to winning ways. Let's see who comes out on top. Toss and team news in a bit.

Mumbai finally got a victory that too on the last ball against Delhi. They will be pleased that their skipper, Rohit Sharma is back in form, but except for Tilak Varma and Tim David, no other batters have made an impact which is an area they want to improve. Their bowling also looks a bit bleak, but if Jofra Archer comes back that will be a huge plus for them while Piyush Chawla has been putting his all to help them out. They are playing against their favourite opponents, and this is the perfect opportunity for them to work on their mistakes and get the two points.

Hello and a warm welcome, folks! It is time for another cracker of a contest in the Indian T20 League as Mumbai are hosting Kolkata at the Wankhede stadium. The home team will be confident after getting their first win and their excellent record against Kolkata will give them an extra boost for this game. It is going to be a challenge for the away side, and they know they will have to be at the top of their game.

... MATCH DAY ...

The 2023 edition of the Indian T20 League is in full swing and in match number 22, it will be a clash between two rivals, one from the western part of India and the other from the eastern part. It is Mumbai taking on Kolkata at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and it sure is set up to be a high-octane clash. Mumbai are currently pretty low in the points table but will come into this encounter on the back of a morale-boosting win against Delhi in their last game. Mumbai made a few tweaks to the team and it worked out pretty well for them. The two Aussie quicks, Jason Behrendorff and Riley Meredith starred with the ball and so did an evergreen Piyush Chawla. A change in the batting was made that saw Cameron Green being pushed down the order and Tilak Varma came in at number three. It was a masterstroke as openers Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan set the tone and then Tilak Varma provided that stability as well. Rohit and Varma went on to score half centuries but the middle order almost made a mess of a simple chase. Nevertheless, Mumbai were able to get the win and will look to continue the momentum in front of their home fans. Kolkata, on the other hand, have been hit-and-miss so far winning 2 out of their 4 games and come into this clash on the back of a home defeat against Hyderabad. After a sensational heist from Rinku Singh against Gujarat, Kolkata were high on confidence but were smashed for 228 runs as Harry Brook scored a sensational century. The bowling has been a bit of a worry for them but one positive was that Andre Russell bowled and picked up wickets as well and this could really bolster them going ahead. Once again captain Nitish Rana and Rinku Singh took on the mantle after Kolkata lost early wickets and at one point it looked like they might just pull it off again but once Rana fell, it was all over for Kolkata. They have the hitting ability in the middle order and they will now be hoping that their openers do well and the bowling attack comes to the fore as well. There is a rich history of some cracking games between these two sides and the game being played at Wankhede will serve as an opportunity for another high-scoring clash. It will be interesting to see how the pitch plays given it is a day game. A close encounter is expected and both sides will look to edge out each other. Who are you backing?
