Onto the next one - That’s a wrap from this absolute run-fest, where Mumbai Indians return to winning ways in style, bringing smiles back to their fans, while Lucknow Super Giants’ slide continues in the league. Up next in IPL 2026 is a blockbuster clash between Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on May 5, Tuesday. The action begins at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT), but as always, you can join us early for all the build-up. Until then, cheers and goodbye!

PLAYER OF THE MATCH - Ryan Rickelton wins the award for his outstanding knock of 83 off just 32 balls. He says that Rohit is one of Mumbai’s finest and among India’s all-time greats, and he genuinely enjoys batting alongside him. Adds that the wickets at the Wankhede have been excellent, and we back each other, constantly communicating and helping one another out in the middle.  As for batting here, he mentions that a lot of his teammates said his game would suit this venue. Coming from Johannesburg, he is used to pace and bounce, so it feels quite similar. He didn't think much of it initially, but he has really enjoyed it. The ball comes on nicely and allows you to play your shots. End by saying that he has adapted well and always looks to keep improving while staying grounded.

The victorious stand-in skipper of Mumbai Indians - Suryakumar Yadav, on what was the conversation in the strategic break after conceding 90 runs in the Powerplay, admits that they have been put into such a situation for several times this season but says that they knew they could control the game with a couple of wickets. He credits the bowlers for responding with great character and says pulling it back and restricting LSG to that total was brilliant. He adds that the bowlers had their plans and just needed to back them, and the character they showed was commendable. On the chat before coming out to bat, Suryakumar points to a previous game where MI scored 240 and Sunrisers still chased it down. Says that they knew it was chaseable and that the mindset was clear. Points to the start they got, praising Rickelton for his brilliant knock and reserving special words for Rohit Sharma, who came back raring to go and entertained the crowd in his own special way. On the opening partnership, he says it is always important to get a good start while chasing a big total, credits Rohit and Rickelton for doing exactly what was required, and also acknowledges the contributions of Naman Dhir and the rest of the group.

Presentation Time...

A quick chat - MI's Naman Dhir says that it feels good to win after suffering back-to-back defeats and chasing down a score of over 220. Adds that the chats in the dressing room have always been positive. They haven't clicked as a team, but the bowlers did a fine job, and then Rohit and Ryan Rickelton gave them the perfect start. They clicked as a team in this match. Dhir mentions that Rohit Sharma is a great player for them. Says he suffered a setback with the injury, but he is very important for the team. Says that he is just keeping his game plan simple, trying to keep his bat face straight when he is getting it in the middle and that is working for him.

The captain of Lucknow Super Giants - Rishabh Pant admits that given the start they got, they could have put more runs on the board. He feels they fell 15 to 20 runs short on what looked like a 240 to 250 kind of wicket. He adds that the boys played freely but credits the MI bowlers for bowling well and making good use of their home conditions. He adds that while they had an edge early on, on a wicket like this you cannot blame the bowlers all the time and says that they have done a fantastic job for the side so far. On what needs to be done to win, Pant keeps it simple and says they just need some good luck. And on where to find it, he smiles and says it will take plenty of blessings and a little more effort from the boys.

Lucknow's bowling falls flat - There isn't much to say about Lucknow’s bowling effort, it just never really clicked. They may have been 15-20 runs short, but the bigger concern was how flat they looked with the ball, especially in the Powerplay where they failed to pick up an early breakthrough. The middle overs didn’t offer any relief either, with Mumbai cruising along comfortably. Manimaran Siddharth picked up a couple of wickets, while Mohammad Shami and Mohsin Khan chipped in with one each, but the strikes were too scattered to make any real impact. Prince Yadav stood out with a tidy economy of around 8, but he received little to no support from the other end as runs kept leaking throughout the innings.

LSG fall short despite a flying start - Earlier in the game, Lucknow Super Giants posted their highest first-innings total of the season, but after storming to 123/1 in 8.1 overs, they will feel they fell short of a 250-plus score. Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran set things up with a fiery 94-run stand, Pooran bringing up a stunning 16-ball fifty, but his dismissal triggered a collapse from 123/1 to 160/5. Markram and Himmat Singh steadied things with a crucial 68-run stand to push them close to 230. Mumbai Indians were erratic early, but bounced back well with Corbin Bosch turning the tide with a double strike, the spinners chipped in, and Bumrah alongside Chahar nailed the death overs, conceding just 13 runs in the last two overs to keep the game alive.

Rohit-Rickelton power the chase - Chasing a daunting total, Mumbai Indians needed a blazing start and their trusted opening pair delivered in style. Rohit Sharma marked his return from injury with a sublime knock, while Rickelton continued his rich vein of form as the duo came out all guns blazing, racking up 71 in the Powerplay. They didn’t take their foot off the pedal either, constantly staying ahead of the rate with a commanding 143-run opening stand, both cruising into the 80s. However, just when it looked like a walk in the park, LSG struck back with twin breakthroughs to create a brief flutter. But SKY’s composed presence, combined with Naman Dhir’s quickfire cameo and Will Jacks' finishing touches, ensured there were no further hiccups as Mumbai sealed the chase in confident fashion.

MI snap losing streak in style - Mumbai Indians snapped their three-match losing streak in emphatic fashion, pulling off their highest-ever successful chase in IPL history. It might not be enough to spark a late playoff push, but the manner of this win will give them immense pride, especially with how they rode out the tricky phases and held their nerve under pressure. For LSG, the slide continues as they slump to a sixth straight defeat, a run that keeps them firmly rooted to the bottom of the table.

18.46

SIX! GAME. SET. MATCH! A gorgeous strike into the crowd to scale down a mammoth target in a clinical fashion. A huge sigh of relief for the Mumbai Indians and their faithful as they register their third win this season after a streak of some stinging defeats. Avesh bowls a length ball, on top of off. Will Jacks gets on top of it and muscles it cleanly over the long off fence for a six to seal the deal. And as shown on the on-air graphic, this is the 5th highest successful run chase in IPL history. MI BEAT LSG BY 6 WICKETS AND 8 BALLS TO SPARE!

18.31

Slower ball, short and at the shoulder height of the batter. Naman Dhir gets on the back foot and pulls it behind square on the leg side for a single. Just a matter of one hit, then. 6 needed off 9 balls.

18.21

Hard length, around off. Jacks stays put and punches it along the ground to deep point for an easy single.

18.21wd

WIDE! For height! Way too short and with pace taken off, outside off. Jacks lets it fly back to the keeper. Wide given as it has gone above his head height.

18.12

Back of a length, wide outside off, Will Jacks stands tall and slices it over cover-point. By the time the sweeper cuts it off to his left, the batters hustle back for two runs.

17.64

FOUR! That's a skilful shot from Dhir! A bit too straight by Shami, full and on the pads. Naman Dhir uses his wrists and flicks it nicely to the left of short fine leg to pick up a boundary. Shami proves to be very expensive as he finishes with 4-0-53-1. MI need 11 runs from 12 balls.

17.51

Attempts the yorker, Jacks takes it on the full and drills it to long on for a single.

Out goes Suryakumar Yadav, in comes Will Jacks.

17.4W

OUT! IN THE AIR AND TAKEN! SKY falls after yet another start. Shami strikes, but it is a bit too late for the Super Giants it seems. Full from Shami, on middle and leg. Suryakumar Yadav attempts to whip that over deep mid-wicket, but fails to get the timing and distance. The ball goes high in the air and straight into the safe hands of Nicholas Pooran stationed a few yards in off the ropes at deep mid-wicket. Mumbai Indians are 213/4, needing 16 runs.

17.34

FOUR! Easily done by SKY! Slower delivery, halfway down the pitch, wide of off. Suryakumar Yadav shuffles a bit to the leg side and slashes it over the backward point fielder for a boundary. 16 needed from 15 balls.

17.21

A bit short on leg, Dhir heaves it away to deep mid-wicket for a single.

17.16

SIX! THAT'S A MASSIVE HIT! Shami goes for the slower ball, full and outside off. Dhir picks the variation early, clears the front leg to give himself some room and smokes it handsomely over long on for a big six. 21 needed from 17 balls now for MI.

Mohammad Shami comes back into the attack.

Knee high full toss, on leg. Dhir runs it along the ground to long on for a run. 12 runs from the over. 3-0-24-0 so far for Prince.

16.51

Attempted yorker, on off with a bit of inward shape. Suryakumar Yadav carves it away to long off for a single. 28 runs needed from 19 balls.

16.51wd

WIDE! Slower bumper, just a bit down leg. Suryakumar Yadav moves across the stumps to help it behind, but misses to connect. It is given as a wide for height by the umpire and LSG have challenged the decision with a review. The TV umpire says that the ball is passing over the leg stump, so it is not a wide for leg side. Ball Tracking with a side-on replay now comes up. SKY's head height is 1.83 meters and the ball is passing at 1.95 meters. So it is just above the head height of the batter. But to be doubly sure, the umpire requests UltraEdge as well. It comes up with a flat line. So the on-field decision is upheld and LSG have lost both their reviews. 200 UP FOR MUMBAI INDIANS!

16.41

Low full toss, on middle and off. Dhir heaves it off the inner half to deep mid-wicket for a single.

16.30

Replies with a pinpoint yorker, on off, Naman manages to squeeze it out to the bowler.

16.24

FOUR! Excellent shot under pressure. Back of a length, around off, Naman Dhir stands tall and punches it to the left of the diving cover fielder for a boundary. Releases a lot of pressure that was built in the last few overs.

16.14

FOUR! That's literally hammered! Full from Prince, in front of the sticks, Naman Dhir smokes it straight down the ground, just over the umpire. Before anyone could move a muscle, the ball meets the ropes.

Commentary

Welcome back for MI's reply with the bat. Rohit Sharma descends the famous Wankhede stairs to a roaring reception as MI's Impact Player for the chase. The in-form Ryan Rickelton accompanies him to the crease. LSG also use their Impact Sub option as Mitchell Marsh is subbed out, making way for the left-arm spinner, Manimaran Siddharth. And for Mumbai, it's a Sharma swap as Rohit replaces Raghu. As usual, it will be Mohammad Shami to take the new ball for the Super Giants. A slip in place and Rickelton to face. Here we go!

... THE RUN CHASE ...

A huge task ahead - There is no doubt that Wankhede has been a batter's safe haven, with teams batting first failing to cross the 200-run mark only once at this venue. But even targets in the 230-250 territory haven't been safe in this season here. The hosts did manage to chase down a similar target against KKR at home, and would need a similar kind of performance here as well in this must-win game. But given MI's batting inconsistencies this year, and LSG's pace attack being economical upfront, it sets up to be a delicious battle in the run chase. Stick around.

Good comeback in the second half - However, it was Corbin Bosch who proved to be the point of difference, fishing out both Marsh and Pooran in the same over to reduce LSG from 123/1 to 125/3. LSG needed their skipper Pant to step up and take responsibility but that did not happen, and a further wicket of debutant Akshat left them reeling at 160/5. Despite that slide, LSG's run rate stayed above 12 and Aiden Markram and Himmat Singh allied together to consolidate with an unbeaten 68-run partnership, though they would admit they could not land the killer blows in the final overs.

Marsh, Pooran put MI to the sword - LSG's new opening pair of Inglis and Marsh was broken up inside the Powerplay by Ghazanfar, but Marsh refused to let the side slip into a defensive shell. He found an aggressive ally in Nicholas Pooran and the two made full use of anything in the slot, plundering 100 in the seventh over. The assault completely knocked MI's bowlers off their lengths, with the stumps rarely threatened as the bowlers found themselves chasing the batters around the park. Pooran rediscovered his touch with a blazing half century, and was looking for a big one.

15-20 runs short? That's what LSG might be thinking, given the way they started off in the first half, but they still managed to post their highest total this season. Mumbai Indians have managed to pull things back really nicely in the last 3 overs, conceding just 22 runs. And you never know, on a batting paradise like this, with dew expected to come later on, that might prove to be the difference. However, for MI, their bowling attack has come under the scanner once again, with Bumrah going wicketless and expensive again. He could have got one or maybe two wickets, but overstepping cost him dearly.

19.51

Superb bowling! You cannot do anything about this one! A slower dipping yorker, outside off, Aiden Markram jams it out towards extra cover for just one more.

19.41

Pitched up and around off, Himmat Singh gets low to swipe it away but the fielder at square leg dives to his left to make a fine stop. They cross.

19.31

Great execution once again! This is the wide yorker, outside off, Aiden Markram tries to go straight but loses his shape. It goes off the inside edge towards backward square leg for a run.

19.21

Another good yorker, on middle, Himmat Singh digs it off the inner half of the bat to square leg for a single.

19.10

Good start from Deepak Chahar! He bowls this into the blockhole, on off. Himmat Singh swings at it but gets an inside edge onto his pads as the ball rolls to the left of the bowler.

That was a fantastic penultimate over from Bumrah. Didn't give away much, but he goes wicketless. Deepak Chahar will bowl the final over. 3-0-37-0 so far.

18.54

FOUR! Gets it away this time! Just misses the yorker and bowls a full toss, on off. Himmat Singh puts all his strength behind the shot and muscles it to the left of long off for a boundary.

18.40

Misses out! Jasprit Bumrah bowls another slower delivery, a full toss around off, dipping in again. Himmat Singh shuffles across to scoop it but gets deceived by the lack of pace and misses.

18.31

Pace off, full and on middle, dips in a bit late, Aiden Markram lobs it towards long on for a run.

18.21

And again! Right in the blockhole, on middle, Himmat Singh jams it down the pitch. Jasprit Bumrah tries to stop it with his right hand on the follow-through, but parries it away for a single.

18.10

A perfect yorker, on middle, tailing in, Himmat Singh gets bat down but can only dig it back to the bowler.

Jasprit Bumrah (3-0-38-0) will bowl the penultimate over.

Another low full toss, outside off, Himmat Singh gets down and across to force it to wide long on for one. Chahar is bowling nicely to his field here.

17.41

Pitched up delivery, just outside off, Aiden Markram reaches out and carves it towards sweeper cover for a run.

17.31

A low full toss, outside off, Himmat Singh drags it off the toe-end of the bat to long on for a single.

17.22

Fuller in length and on middle and off, Himmat Singh mistimes his lofted shot between long on and long off for a couple of runs.

17.21wd

WIDE! Fuller but way outside off again, Himmat Singh lets it go. Wided.

17.12

Excellent fielding! Pitched up and around off, Himmat Singh gets down and connects with the swipe this time. The ball races to the deep square leg fence, but Raj Bawa in the deep runs to his right and makes a fine diving stop. Saves a couple of runs for his side.

17.11wd

WIDE! Fuller one and keeps the line wide outside off, Himmat Singh gets down and across to swipe it away but misses. Not given as a wide, but Singh takes the review here. The replay shows that the batter significantly moves outside off stump before the ball is delivered, but the ball is still outside the revised guideline. The on-field call is changed to a wide.

Last 3 overs left. How far can LSG go from here? 230 looks realistic at this stage. But will that be enough? We have seen mountains moved at this venue. Deepak Chahar (2-0-28-0) is back on.

Josh Inglis has hurt his left thumb while attempting to take the catch. He calls for the physio, but we can see that he is walking off the field now. Hopefully, it is nothing serious.

Oh, almost a remarkable catch! Full, outside off, Dhir tries to hit it through covers off the front foot, but hits it flat to the left of cover. Josh Inglis dives in that direction, tries to pluck it with both hands but puts it down. That was hit at the rate of knots from Naman. There is a bit of miscommunication between the batters as Dhir wants a single, but SKY sends him back in time.

A timely wicket for Lucknow Super Giants. Naman Dhir joins his stand-in skipper out in the middle now.

OUT! STRAIGHT UP AND GONE! Tilak Varma's scratchy knock is put to a painful end. LSG still believe. Floated up, full and just outside off. Tilak Varma decides to launch it over long off by getting crouched. But he fails to get under the ball and airs it off the toe end. Aiden Markram stays cool and calm at the edge of the ropes and takes a well-judged catch. Mumbai Indians are 189/3, needing 40 runs from 27 balls.

Rohit Sharma goes down and across to paddle it but the extra bounce takes the outer half of the bat. It flies behind short fine, where Mohammad Shami takes a couple of steps backward and takes a fine catch. Mumbai Indians are 177/2, needing 52 more runs from 36 balls.

STRATEGIC BREAK! It's been an easy going for the Mumbai Indians from the first ball and they are literally cruising to a famous win in front of their home crowd. And to be very fair, the bowling from LSG hasn't been that great. They have bowled too many hit-me deliveries, and the likes of Rohit and Rickelton ensured that they don't go unpunished. With 57 runs required from 42 balls, the asking rate has shrunk down to 8.14, and with 9 wickets in hand, Rohit well settled, showing his full range, this is MI's game to lose from here. This opening pair did the same against KKR in the opening game, while chasing 200 plus, and if they can repeat that, MI will be in a great place to chase this down, as they still have a lot of firepower left in the tank. Just short! But full marks for the effort from Prince Yadav. A low full toss by Avesh, on the stumps, and this dips a bit as well. Rohit Sharma picks it up but hits it off the toe end and airs it to the right of deep square leg. Prince Yadav comes charging across and dives to scoop the ball to his right. He is not sure whether he has taken the catch and the on-field umpires send it upstairs to check the legality of the catch. After checking a few angles, the TV umpire deems that the ball has bumped on the ground and Prince does not have his fingers underneath the ball while attempting to catch. So, it is Not Out and that brings about a loud cheer from the Wankhede crowd as Rohit stays.

Is that a clean catch? Prince Yadav straight away says that he is not sure, and it has been sent upstairs. The replay shows that the ball clearly bounces before going into the hands of Yadav. 'Not Out' flashes on the big screen, much to the delight of the home crowd.

Pace off, full and on middle, dips in a bit late, Aiden Markram lobs it towards long on for a run.

17.41

Pitched up delivery, just outside off, Aiden Markram reaches out and carves it towards sweeper cover for a run.

17.31

A low full toss, outside off, Himmat Singh drags it off the toe-end of the bat to long on for a single.

17.21wd

FOUR! Easy pickings for the batter, but that should have been stopped. A full toss, outside off, Singh pats it down towards short extra cover, where Suryakumar Yadav lets it through to his left and the ball rolls away into the fence. 17 off the over. An expensive spell from AM Ghazanfar. He finishes with 4-0-50-1.

15.56

SIX! That's a solid hit from Himmat Singh. AM Ghazanfar tries the carrom ball now but gets it way too full, on off. Singh hits through the line and lifts it over long off for a biggie.

15.41

Hit hard but straight at the bowler. Tossed up full on off, Markram drills it straight back but the bowler gets a hand on it, and the ball rolls behind towards mid on for a single.

15.31

On the shorter side and over middle and leg, jabbed away wide of the deep mid-wicket fielder for one. Good work in the deep, attacking the ball well.

15.21

End of a dramatic over. Bumrah hones in at the stumps, bowling it a bit fuller. Aiden Markram crunches the straight drive but ends up smashing it into the stumps at the other end. The ball deflects away towards mid on, and Markram picks up a single.

13.50

Good length, on off, dabbed off the back foot to backward point.

13.41

Excellent comeback from Bumrah. A slower bumper now, right at the batter. Markram is taken aback but manages to pull it well to the right of the mid-wicket fielder for a single.

13.30

Much better. A slower yorker, wide outside off, and dips late on the batter. Aiden Markram goes after it but the ball sneaks under the willow. Two Free Hits, but LSG can't make use of either of them.

13.32nb

NO BALL! Another one, would you believe it? It is a big one this time as well. Length ball outside off, Himmat Singh goes after it and ends up slicing it over the cover region. Suryakumar Yadav from inside the ring runs after it and takes the catch but it won't count again and the batters cross for a single.

13.31wd

WIDE! Bumrah goes for the wide yorker but lands it beyond the tramline outside off. Free Hit to continue...

13.31nb

Jasprit Bumrah delivers and Mumbai Indians pick up another wicket. But hang on, the siren has gone off. It is a No Ball for overstepping, a third one from the MI bowlers in this game, and that's just unacceptable. It is a lovely delivery from Bumrah, slightly full and in the channel, nibbling away. Himmat Singh is caught back in the crease and edges it behind to the keeper, who makes no mistake. However, it won't count. Free Hit loading.

13.20

A snorter of a bumper from Bumrah, but fairly outside off and Himmat leans back to let it pass.

13.11

Short of a good length, slanted back in a long way from outside off. Markram taps it down the pitch and gets it past the non-striker for a single.

Strategic Break! Mumbai Indians have pulled things back massively in the last 5 overs, picking up 4 wickets for just 41 runs. Corbin Bosch and the spinners have been the main architects of this comeback, and they know that if they can pick up a couple of more wickets quickly, they can even restrict the visitors to under 200, which was looking like a distant dream when Pooran and Marsh were batting. Lucknow Super Giants need a partnership here, and Aiden Markram holds the key for them. They still have a good platform for a big total, but Markram needs to bat deep with a bit of support from others. Also, Jasprit Bumrah to bowl after the break.

12.51

Full, on off and middle, Singh watchfully plays it to the right of cover-point and picks up a single.

There seems to be a slight halt. Not entirely sure what it's about. The on-field umpire is having a chat with Suryakumar Yadav. We are finally good to go again.

12.40

Floated up, full and drifted into the pads. Singh lunges to drive but gets beaten on the inside edge and gets rapped on the pads. There's an appeal for LBW, turned down by the umpire. Raghu Sharma is getting some good drift here and Suryakumar Yadav has gone for the review. The big question is whether the ball is pitching in line or not. The third umpire checks UltraEdge and confirms that there's no bat involved. Ball Tracking does confirm that the ball is just pitching outside the leg stump and it stays Not Out.

12.31

Dragged length around middle, Markram rocks back and tucks it towards deep mid-wicket for one. The batters look for two but Naman Dhir attacks the ball well and keeps it down to one.

12.21

Quicker one on middle, stays low, Himmat Singh backs away and jams it past point for one.

LSG lose half their side now. Himmat Singh is the next man in.

12.1W

OUT! CAUGHT AND BOWLED! Oh, that's a bit unlucky, but a soft dismissal nonetheless for the debutant. Raghu Sharma tosses the ball up on the pads. Akshat Raghuwanshi comes down the pitch and then looks to just work it leg side but doesn't quite get his bat out in front of the pads. The ball takes the inside edge and lobs off the pads. Raghu moves to his right and takes a simple catch, bringing up his maiden IPL wicket.

8.5W

OUT! TAKEN EASILY! Bosch proving to be the point of difference as he dismisses both the set batters in the same over. Corbin slams the deck really hard, on a good length, around the off and middle stumps. Mitchell Marsh is a bit rushed on the pull shot and mistimes it off the inner half. Hits it flat and straight into the hands of Naman Dhir stationed at deep mid-wicket. Lucknow Super Giants are 125/3 in 8.5 overs.

8.41

Wide outside off, on a length, Pant frees his arms and drives it to sweeper cover for a single.

8.30

Nearly a wicket for Bosch! He spears in a good length ball, attacking the middle stump and gets it to skid a bit as well. Pant has no clue and is pinned in the crease. He is beaten by the pace as well as his bat comes down very late and the ball seems to have grazed the inside edge on its way to the keeper. Rickelton dives to his right and gathers the dipping ball in his gloves. The on-field umpires want to have a look at the legality of the catch and send it upstairs for a review. First, UltraEdge is being checked and it comes up with a clear spike when the ball is next to the inside edge. Now, onto the catch. A couple of angles come up and the TV umpire deems that the ball is grounded before entering Ryan's glove. Maybe the inside edge took a bit of pace off the ball. Not Out loads on the giant screen.

Has that carried? The sound was definitely woody, indicating an inside edge, but has the ball carried through to Ryan Rickelton behind the stumps? The third umpire is having a look. It seems there is an inside edge and UltraEdge confirms it. Oh, it is a close one but the ball seems to have just hit the turf before entering the gloves. Such decisions are always tricky for the third umpire and he wants to check it from a few more angles. The third umpire concludes that the fingers are pointing downwards and the ball is grounded. NOT OUT comes up on the big screen.

8.31wd

WIDE! Back of a length, pitching outside leg. Pant gets inside the line to help it on the leg side, but misses. Wide given.

8.20

Nagging length, outside off, Pant shimmies down the track, moving leg side, and wafts at it, only to miss.

Just the stroke of luck Mumbai were looking for. Rishabh Pant walks in to bat at number 4.

8.1W

OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Bosch ends Pooran's fun and breaks the 94-run partnership. Short of a good length, on the leg stump line, climbs up a bit as well. Nicholas Pooran waits back and tries to play the pull shot, but it is a bit too close to the body to execute that shot and he ends up gloving it behind to the keeper. Ryan Rickelton takes a simple catch to his right. Some sort of relief for MI and Lucknow Super Giants are 123/2.

STRATEGIC BREAK! MI definitely need a breather here, as barring Inglis' wicket, nothing has gone their way. Even the best like Bumrah have been taken to the cleaners. Surely, a typical Wankhede pitch with a lot of runs written over it. The first 3 overs went for 30 runs, but the next half of the Powerplay went for 60 with Pooran being the real aggressor. Seems like he has discovered his touch and would want to continue doing this. And in all fairness, it hasn't been great bowling execution from the MI bowlers. They have been completely put off their lines and lengths and desperately need a breakthrough to slow down things. J Bumrah2-0-31-0

3.61

Just a single, but 21 runs come off Bumrah's second over. Shortish ball, angling away from middle, and Pooran just guides it down to deep third for one.

3.51

Pace off again, very full on middle and leg, Marsh pats it down to mid on and picks up a single. 50 UP FOR LSG!

3.44

FOUR! Mitchell Marsh takes full toll of the freebie. Bumrah looks to go full and straight but ends up serving a half-volley. Mitchell Marsh pummels the drive straight back and the ball goes rapidly to the umpire's right and races away into the fence behind.

3.45nb

FOUR! You cannot afford to bowl short to Mitchell Marsh. Dug in short around chest height, Marsh is waiting for it, pulls it firmly to the left of deep backward square leg for a boundary. To make things worse, Bumrah has overstepped as the siren goes off and a No Ball is called. Free Hit upcoming...

3.36

SIX! Wow, that's gone many a mile. Slower delivery, angled into the stumps, Mitchell Marsh picks it early, hits on the up and whacks it well over wide long on for a biggie.

3.32wd

TWO WIDES! Full and around leg stump, swings down the leg side. Pooran misses the tuck and the keeper dives to his right, deflecting the ball away. The batters pinch a single as well.

3.21

Fractionally short, angled into the hips. Marsh looks to hoick it away over square leg but gets it off the inner half of the blade and down to deep backward square leg for just one more.

3.11

Fullish delivery on middle, cutting across the left-hander, Pooran waits well and angles it down to the left of deep third for a single.

Jasprit Bumrah (1-0-10-0) to continue.

Ghazanfar1-0-9-1

2.60

A string of three dots to finish a productive over from AM Ghazanfar. Length ball, around off, Marsh backs away and punches it into the off side but can't get it through covers.

2.50

Bowled well short now, over middle, Marsh pulls it straight to the square leg fielder.

2.41

Nice and full, at the stumps, driven down to long on for a single by Pooran.

Ghazanfar continues to bag wickets this IPL. The opening partnership is broken for LSG again in the Powerplay. In walks Nicholas Pooran at number 3.

2.3W

OUT! CAUGHT! AM Ghazanfar delivers in the Powerplay once again for Mumbai Indians, and Josh Inglis' LSG debut is short-lived. Ghazanfar goes a tad short again, but bowls it quicker and fires it into middle and leg. Inglis rocks back, but this time he tries to force the lofted shot over mid on and gets it completely wrong. The ball goes a few yards beyond the mid on region, where Suryakumar Yadav just jogs back and takes a simple catch. LSG are 29/1.

2.24

FOUR! Oh, that should have been stopped. Full and outside off, Inglis lunges to drive but gets it off the outer half of the blade and to the left of point, where Deepak Chahar lets it through for another boundary.

2.14

FOUR! That's a brilliant shot. Marginally short on middle and angling in. Inglis picks the length in a trice, rocks back and heaves it handsomely between deep mid-wicket and long on for a boundary.

Bowler number 3 in over number 3 for MI. AM Ghazanfar is introduced into the attack. He replaces Deepak Chahar.

FOUR! Too full, and punished. Bumrah looks for the searing straight yorker but overpitches. Mitchell Marsh gets his hands out in front and drills it back with the full face of the blade, bisecting mid off and mid on to perfection.

1.50

Pace off now, at 119.3 kph and spins back in like a quick off-spin delivery from well outside off. Marsh covers the line and taps it down to backward point.

1.40

The in-between length again, on middle and leg, Marsh presses back and nudges it down to square leg.

1.31

Hard length over middle, holds its line and Inglis stabs it down to the right of mid on for a single.

1.24

FOUR! Josh Inglis kicks off his LSG career in style. A fraction too straight from Bumrah, darting it into the pads. Inglis clips it nicely, and the ball races away to the left of the deep backward square leg fielder and goes into the fence.

1.11

Bowls it just back of a length and gets it to slant back in from outside off. Marsh hangs back and angles it away through the backward point region for a single.

Very productive opening over for the Super Giants. And here's Jasprit Bumrah from the opposite end. There's a slip in place.

0.61

A single to end the first over, 11 off it. Pitched fuller, swinging in towards the stumps. Marsh leans on and pushes it down to wide long off for a run. A positive start for LSG.

0.50

Much better from Chahar. Good length again, in the channel just outside off and shaping it away. Marsh makes a leave.

0.40

Good length, attacking the stumps this time, Marsh flicks it across to the mid-wicket fielder.

0.34

FOUR! Pitched up now, at the stumps, Mitchell Marsh shuffles down the track a bit and forces the drive uppishly back over the bowler's head for a boundary.

0.26

SIX! Some way to get off the mark, that. Chahar opts to go short but serves a gentle-paced delivery around Marsh's midriff. The Bison gets inside the line and tonks it over deep mid-wicket for a biggie and LSG are underway.

0.10

Some early swing on offer for Chahar. Very full and outside off, shaping away from the right-hander. Mitchell Marsh goes for the booming drive but gets it off the inner half of the blade to mid off.

In all readiness to get going in the City of Dreams. It's absolutely buzzing at the Wankhede with a sea of blue to cheer for the home team. There's an odd sprinkling of red for the tourists. The two umpires walk out to the middle. Suryakumar Yadav has his men in a huddle near the ropes. Now, they spread out to take their respective spots. And here's another opening pair for the Super Giants. The two Aussies - Mitchell Marsh and Josh Inglis - walk out to the crease. Deepak Chahar will bowl the first over. Hasn't been in the best of form lately, but has the ability to get the ball moving early doors. The Bison to take the strike. A slip in place. Here we go!

Impact Player options for MI - Rohit Sharma, Mayank Rawat, Robin Minz, Shardul Thakur, and Trent Boult.

Mumbai Indians (Playing XI) - Ryan Rickelton (WK), Naman Dhir, Suryakumar Yadav (C), Tilak Varma, Will Jacks, Raj Bawa (In for Robin Minz), Corbin Bosch (In for Hardik Pandya), Deepak Chahar (In for Trent Boult), Jasprit Bumrah, AM Ghazanfar, and Raghu Sharma (In for Krish Bhagat).

Impact Player options for LSG - Manimaran Siddharth, Digvesh Singh, Mayank Yadav, Shahbaz Ahamad, and Abdul Samad.

Lucknow Super Giants (Playing XI) - Mitchell Marsh, Josh Inglis (In for Ayush Badoni), Nicholas Pooran, Aiden Markram, Rishabh Pant (C/WK), Akshat Raghuwanshi (In for Mukul Choudhary), Himmat Singh (In for Digvesh Singh), Mohammad Shami, Mohsin Khan, Avesh Khan (In for George Linde), and Prince Yadav.

The skipper of Lucknow Super Giants - Rishabh Pant says they would have bowled first as well, adding that at Wankhede, any target can be chased down. He admits it has been a tough season for them and says the break has brought plenty of reflection on what they can and cannot do, both as a team and as individuals. More importantly, he accepts that they have let their fans down and promises they will give their 200 percent to bring that happiness back and return some love to the fans. He also confirms three changes to the side, with Josh Inglis coming in. Adds that Akshat Raghuwanshi comes in and Mukul Choudhary goes out, while the bowling combination will be decided later.

The stand-in captain for Mumbai Indians - Suryakumar Yadav says that the wicket looks good and it's also a bit humid. In the last couple of games, it has become better to bat on in the second innings, so that's there as well. Adds that Hardik Pandya is unwell so he is filling in his shoes. SKY informs that they have a few changes. Corbin Bosch comes in place of Trent Boult and their very own Rohit Sharma is back, which sent the crowd into frenzy. Surya mentions that they can't hide behind the fact that MI are not known to be in such positions, but it's a game, and they have a lot of pride to play for and have fun out there. He ends by saying that not having any margin for error doesn't really make them dangerous but all they can do is put their best foot forward, try to win as many games as possible and put up a show for the crowd.

TOSS - Toss time in Mumbai and it looks like Suryakumar Yadav has come out in place of Hardik Pandya for Mumbai Indians. He is joined by Rishabh Pant, who is captaining LSG as usual. SKY gives it a flick and Pant calls it incorrectly. Mumbai Indians will BOWL first.

THIS JUST IN - Josh Inglis is seen receiving his maiden LSG cap. He gets the cap from his Aussie and Perth Scorchers teammate Mitchell Marsh. Stick around as we are just a couple of minutes away from the toss now.

Let's now hear from LSG's Nicholas Pooran - Nicholas Pooran says he is hopeful that he will perform better in this game. Admits that it has been a very tough tournament for him and his team as well. Says it is a tough place to be for any sportsperson, but is confident about his preparations and skills. On his training and whether anything has changed in his approach, Pooran shares that nothing has changed but is quick to accept that it has been one of those seasons where nothing has gone his way. He adds that he thinks and reflects a lot about his game and takes accountability for his performances. On whether he relies on video analysis or prefers going by feel and speaking to his coaches, Pooran says he is a bit of both. He reveals he watches a lot of videos to understand what he is doing right or wrong and says he just tries to get better each day. He again reiterates that it has been a tough chapter in his career but stresses on continuing to get better and evolving as a cricketer and, more importantly, as a human being. Pooran calls Wankhede a wonderful place to bat and adds that there are plenty of runs on offer when you apply yourself well. But he says that for him, it is not about the venue he is playing at but more about focusing on the situation and staying in the moment for as long as possible and playing the game the right way.

A quick chat with MI's Will Jacks - Will Jacks says that they have to be honest and admit that they have been well below expectations. Adds that in the final five games they have to show a bit of pride and perform at a level they know they can do and aspire to be. Mentions that the transition from batting at 6-7 in the World Cup back to opening here has been fine. Says that the experience of batting down the order means that he can bat anywhere the team wants, and we might see him bat at a different position in this game. Shares that bowling against the SRH in the Powerplay was tough, sometimes the batters play some good shots and the surfaces have been excellent for batting. The way this IPL is going, if you go for 10-12 in an over, you have done a good job. Ends by saying that sometimes when you are going through a tough phase, you tend to forget to enjoy the game, but you play this sport to have fun, so they want to do that and maybe that leads to some positive results.

PITCH REPORT - Former Indian wicket-keeper, Deep Dasgupta, is pitchside. He starts by talking about the dimensions and says that there is a bit of a bias on one side of the square, as the square boundaries are 61 meters and 67 meters on either side, and the straight hit is 75 meters. Former Aussie opener, Aaron Finch, joins him and says that there's not just a bit of grass on the deck, but live green grass, which will allow the pacers to get some help early on. Finch also reckons that there is some moisture in the deck and the finger spinners will have a role to play. However, they both end by mentioning that overall, it will be a great wicket to bat on.

Go big or go home - Technically, the match is a loser-goes-home scenario for all practical purposes regarding the playoffs. The pitch at Wankhede typically rewards fearless stroke-making, which might be the tonic both struggling batting units need to break the rut. Which side will rise under pressure and keep their season alive? Only time will tell. Stay tuned for the toss and team news.

No respite - For the five-time champion Mumbai side, the home advantage is a thin veil over a three-match losing streak, while the Super Giants arrive in the city of dreams on the back of a bruising five-game slide, including a recent Super Over heartbreak. There are a few positives on each side, though. Ryan Rickelton has amassed nearly 300 runs even after sitting out a few games, but overall MI's batting has been an Achilles heel. Rohit Sharma was due for a fitness test ahead of this game and the hosts will be hoping that he is available for this crunch encounter. On the other hand, it is a similar story for Lucknow, who have had a torrid time with the bat and even after being probably the best bowling side in the competition, they have managed to win just two games. They also have some positive news ahead of this clash as Josh Inglis has joined the side and he might find a place in the XI right away, given the form, or rather the lack of, from Nicholas Pooran.

New week, same old challenges - Hello, and a warm welcome to one and all. The lights of the Wankhede Stadium are set to illuminate a high-stakes battle of survival as Mumbai Indians host Lucknow Super Giants for Match 47 of IPL 2026. This clash is less about the glory of the top spot and more about a desperate scramble for relevance as both teams currently find themselves languishing at the bottom of the table, occupying 9th and 10th place respectively.

... MATCH DAY ...

The do-or-die narrative - Match 47 at the iconic Wankhede Stadium brings together two teams whose campaigns are hanging by a thread - Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants. Both sides are languishing at the bottom of the table with just two wins each, making this less about momentum and more about survival. For Mumbai, the situation is desperate, and they must virtually win out from here to stay relevant in the playoff race. Lucknow, meanwhile, are in an equally precarious position, with a slightly worse net run rate and one match in hand. Any favorites coming into the clash? To put it simply, NO. Neither team comes into this contest with confidence. Mumbai have struggled for consistency, winning just twice in nine matches, while Lucknow are on a worrying losing streak of five matches and sit at the bottom. Mumbai’s batting has shown flashes, particularly through Ryan Rickelton, but has lacked sustained support. Lucknow’s bigger issue has been collective inconsistency, especially in the batting unit, which has failed to close out games. Mumbai rely heavily on their core of Indian stars. The form, or rather the lack of it in this case, of Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma in the middle overs could define their innings, while Jasprit Bumrah remains their trump card in crunch moments. On the other hand, Lucknow’s lineup looks explosive on paper, but execution has been the issue. The possible inclusion of Josh Inglis could add freshness to a misfiring batting order. Wankhede - A true batting paradise. The Wankhede surface is traditionally a batting-friendly strip with good bounce and carry. Expect a high-scoring contest, especially with dew likely to play a major role in the second innings. With dew being a factor, teams will prefer to chase, but Mumbai have opted to put a total on the board in their previous two matches. Batting in the Powerplay will be key for both teams. What's at stake? First of all, Lucknow hold a historical advantage in this matchup, having won the majority of their previous meetings against Mumbai and they have also won 3 out of the last 5 matches between the sides. All in all, this is effectively a knockout for both teams. A loss here would almost certainly end playoff hopes, while the winner keeps a faint mathematical chance alive. Form (Last 5 completed matches, recent first) - MI - LLLWL | LSG - LLLLL. Predictions? Despite their struggles, Mumbai may hold a slight edge due to home conditions and a marginally better balance. However, given both teams’ inconsistency, expect a tight, high-scoring contest that could swing on small moments. Who do you think will come good nder pressure and keep their season aliive?
