Mentions that they did not bat well under pressure and let the game drift till the end. Shares that they will have a talk with guys who were there in that pressure situation. Adds he never thought of playing a big shot but these are the types of games they train for and Maharaj was superb.

...Presentation next...

For the first time in the World Cup, Pakistan have lost four consecutive matches. Things are going from bad to worse for them in this World Cup. Firstly, they were at least 20 runs short. Their defensive approach got them into trouble and if not for the stand between Saud Shakeel and Shadab Khan, they would have ended well below 250. During their defense, they lost Shadab Khan right at the start due to an injury. Usama Mir was about to carry drinks for his team but came in as a concussion substitute and almost turned out as a match-winner. Took the big wickets of Rassie van der Dussen and Aiden Markram. He could have been the match-winner as well, as we believe, he was the go-to bowler in the death overs. A lot of ups and downs in the match but it is South Africa who keep the nerves and continue their winning streak.

It was looking very easy-peasy for South Africa at one point, Aiden Markram and David Miller were knocking it around with just a few runs to win. However, once Miller fell, the entertainment started. All the pressure was on Aiden Markram and the tail. Aiden Markram too fell at the very wrong time and suddenly Pakistan started to believe. They had a really good chance to win as South Africa were losing wickets. However, one advantage South Africa had was they had many balls left to play. Keshav Maharaj didn't try anything innovative and just hung around along with the tail. Lungi Ngidi fell but Tabraiz Shamsi scored four crucial runs to get his team over the line.

Why Babar Azam why? Why not Usama Mir who has been brilliant today? He took two big wickets but Babar still went for Mohammad Nawaz who was having an off day. What a game. What was looking like a comfortable match for South Africa turned out to be a thriller. A huge roar from Tabraiz Shamsi and Keshav Maharaj as they take their team over the line.

FOUR! SOUTH AFRICA HAVE DONE IT! Flat and on middle, Maharaj whips it behind square leg, past the infield player for a boundary. South Africa win by 1 wicket.

47.11

A boundary needed now. Flat and on off, this is flicked to square leg for a single.

Who will bowl now?  Pakistan have to gamble. It has to be Usama Mir. Nope, it is Mohammad Nawaz. 5 runs needed in 18 balls.

Pakistan are pumped up. They have taken a review for LBW. No bat on this one. It is umpire's call on wicket's hitting. On-field decision stays. Not out! A length ball on middle and leg. Shamsi misses his flick and gets hit on the pads. The replay shows it clips the leg pole. Very close. The reaction of Pakistani players is priceless.

OUT! CAUGHT AND BOWLED! Pakistan need one more wicket. What a game this is turning out to be. Commentary

Time for the second half! The South African openers, Quinton de Kock and Temba Bavuma make their way out to the middle. That is a surprise, it is not Shaheen but it is Iftikhar Ahmed to begin. Here we go...

... RUN CHASE ...

South Africa could have kept Pakistan to a much lower total. There were too many wides and no balls from their unit which cost them some runs. Even the fielding could have been much better. South Africa bowled well from one end but the bowler from the other end would give away extras and release all the pressure, that was the story for them. Tabraiz Shamsi ended with four wickets but Marco Jansen was the pick as he took 3 wickets and was economical as well. Right then! South Africa have been known for their batting. They have put on mammoth targets but can they chase this time around? We will find out soon.

This is a moderate total on this pitch and Pakistan will be happy with the score. At a point, Pakistan were struggling for even 250 but the partnership between Saud Shakeel and Shadab Khan blossomed really well and that shifted the momentum towards the Pakistani side. Before that, the approach was defensive from Babar Azam who scored fifty but on a slower side. Mohammad Rizwan and Iftikhar Ahmed got a start but didn't make the most of it. Still, if bowled well, Pakistan can defend this down.

46.4W

OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! There is the last wicket. This is full and outside off, Mohammad Wasim looks to hammer it through the off side but this goes off the outside edge and it is taken by the keeper. Pakistan HAVE BEEN BOWLED OUT FOR 270!

46.30

BEATEN! This is full again and outside off, Mohammad Wasim looks to drive but fails to put bat on ball.

46.20

Fuller and around off, this is pushed to cover.

46.21wd

WIDE! Yet another extra! Not sure why Lungi Ngidi is bowling it so wide. This is almost off the pitch. Left alone. The umpires have a chat, they check whether it has pitched on the surface. They give it as a wide in the end.

46.21wd

WIDE! This is well wide outside off. Wided. Any kind of runs, Pakistan will take.

46.10

Yet aother dot! Fuller and outside off, Mohammad Wasim looks to push at it but it goes off the inner half back towards the bowler.

45.5W

OUT! TAKEN! The last recognized batter is out of here. Mohammad Nawaz falls. This is a slower one, a well-disguised slower one. On the fuller side. Mohammad Nawaz swings, he is through the shot and ends up hitting it high up in the air. David Miller takes it at point. 300 now looks far-fetched.

45.40

Around off, this is pushed to cover.

45.30

44.56

SIX! What a shot that is! Wow! Shades of one of the greatest to ever step on this ground, Dhoni! The helicopter. This is fuller and on middle, Mohammad Wasim gets his front leg out of the way and whips it over the long on fence for a biggie.

44.40

Big turn and bounce there too! This lands around leg and spins back in. Mohammad Wasim looks to flick but misses to get hit on the pads.

44.30

Shorter and outside off, Mohammad Wasim pushes it to covers.

44.2W

OUT! TAKEN! Shaheen Afridi falls now! This is nicely tossed up, it lands around middle and then spins away. Shaheen Afridi goes back and looks to defend but this takes the outside edge and man at first slip takes it. Good captaincy to keep the slip in place. Shamsi has 4. He has four balls to get one more. Can he do it?

44.10

Not sure if Shaheen needs to do that. He brings out the slog sweep, this is slower, it lands on off and then spins away. Shaheen is beaten.

FOUR! Those extra balls cost Jansen here. He had gone for just two from the first five balls but ends up going for 6 from the last one. This is short and width is on offer. Mohammad Nawaz cuts it past point. No chance for anyone. Another good over for Pakistan. If Nawaz stays there till the end, 300 above looks possible.

43.61wd

Yet another extra! This time he over compensates. He ends up bowling it well wide outside off. Left alone.

43.61wd

WIDE! Bonus run! Down the leg side. Nawaz looks to flick but misses. Wided.

43.50

Yet another dot! A short one, down the leg side, Mohammad Nawaz looks to pull, it goes off the glove, lands just short of the keeper.

43.40

This is a yorker, a good one on the pads, Mohammad Nawaz looks to flick but misses to get hit on it.

43.30

Angled into the pads, Mohammad Nawaz looks to flick but misses it. Two dots in a row after a couple on the first ball.

43.20

Dots is what Pakistan do not want! Outside off, on a length, this is pushed to cover.

OUT! TAKEN! Babar Azam takes it and puts in a loud roar. He believes, the Pakistan dug out now believes as they have got the last recognized batter, Aiden Markram! Usama Mir, the gamble to go to him pays off. South Africa still 21 runs away. This time luck favors Usama Mir. We saw a couple of times, Markram clearing point after the ball hitting the outer half but this time it finds the fielder. This is tossed up outside off, Aiden Markram's eyes lit up as he sees the flight. He looks to go big downtown but it goes off the outer half towards point. Azam takes it by running back. Top knock from Markram but has he opened the door for Pakistan here?

46.20

46.21wd

WIDE! Yet another extra! Not sure why Lungi Ngidi is bowling it so wide. This is almost off the pitch. Left alone. The umpires have a chat, they check whether it has pitched on the surface. They give it as a wide in the end.

TOSS - Pakistan have won the toss and will BAT first!

PITCH REPORT - The grass has been shaved and it's a very hard deck. It has not been a high-scoring venue in this World Cup and the average first innings score is 257. Sanjay Manjrekar reckons that there will be no dramatic change in the conditions and suggests that if Pakistan win the toss, they should make South Africa chase as the only game that the Proteas have lost in this edition was while chasing.

Another team that has taken everyone by surprise is Pakistan but on a negative note. Pakistan are coming into this game with a hat-trick of losses. Sitting sixth on the table, every game is a must-win for the Asian side. They need their captain, Babar Azam to lead from the front now more than ever and also, get their bowling unit to fire all cylinders. It will not be easy against South Africa who cannot do anything wrong right now but we have seen a couple of upsets already this season. Can Pakistan get the better of South Africa? We will find out soon. Toss and team news coming up.

Hello and welcome to the 26th game of the World Cup where we see Pakistan take on high-flying South Africa. The Proteas have taken everyone by surprise in this tournament. Not with their wins but the margin of their wins. Apart from their blunder against the Netherlands, they have registered victories of more than 100 runs against Sri Lanka, Australia, England and Bangladesh. They certainly look like the most balanced team in this tournament and are the favourites to win against a depleted Pakistan side.

...MATCH DAY...

Under pressure, Pakistan face a high-flying South Africa in game no. 26 of the ICC CWC 2023. Pakistan's recent form has been disappointing, with three defeats in their last five matches. However, the team management will be hoping for a better performance in their upcoming match against South Africa. The batting department heavily relies on Mohammad Rizwan, who has been in excellent form, scoring 302 runs, including a century and a half-century. On the bowling front, Shaheen Afridi has been the standout performer, leading the bowling charts with 10 wickets. Overall, Pakistan will be looking for a collective effort from their players to improve their chances of winning against South Africa. South Africa will be looking to continue their winning momentum in their upcoming match, led by perhaps Aiden Markram yet again. They secured a comprehensive 149-run victory over Bangladesh in their previous outing, following wins over England and Bangladesh. With 8 points from five matches, South Africa currently sit in second position in the tournament and boast the best NRR. South Africa possess a strong bowling unit in this year's World Cup, with Kagiso Rabada leading the wickets chart, having taken 10 scalps. Young pacer Marco Jansen has also been performing well, with 10 wickets by his side as well. In terms of batting, South Africa have both quality and form going for them with Quinton de Kock, Rassie Van Der Dussen, Aiden Markram, David Miller, and Heinrich Klaasen scoring the bulk of the runs. Quinton de Kock currently is the leading run-scorer for South Africa with 407 runs, including three centuries. Heinrich Klaasen has also been in good form, scoring 288 runs at a strike rate of 150.8. Overall, South Africa's management will be hoping for a collective effort from their players to secure a win and solidify their position on the table. Pakistan's captain Babar Azam will be eager to lead his team to victory against South Africa and get back to winning ways. The team will need to bring their best performance to succeed in this must-win encounter. Both teams will be looking to give it their all and come out on top in what promises to be an exciting clash.
