Crunch clash in Ahmedabad - Up next on Tuesday, 12th May, the Gujarat Titans will take on the Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Both teams are level on 14 points, with Sunrisers placed second because of a superior net run rate, while Titans sit third. The game will begin at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT), but do join us early for all the build-up. See you then. Cheers!

PLAYER OF THE MATCH - In his first game of the season, Madhav Tiwari wins the award for his all-round heroics. 2/40 with the ball and an unbeaten 18 off 8 in the chase. On getting the opportunity, Tiwari first credits the team management and feels lucky to have been on the winning side. On what keeps him sharp on the field, he puts it down to the hard work in practice sessions. He adds that he has worked a lot on his bowling and credits bowling coach Munaf Patel for that, while also adding that he has put in a lot of work on his range hitting, working with the batting coach. On whether he considers himself more a bowler or a batter, he confidently says that he is a 100 per cent batter and a 100 per cent bowler. On his bowling, Tiwari says the wicket was helping the length ball, and he tried to stick to it while mixing in wider balls and shorter ones. He adds he was prepared to bowl four overs, given the conditions were supporting the fast bowlers. Speaking about his batting, he says batting coach Ian Bell told him he has the power and everything he needs, and to just hold his shape and watch the ball, and not overhit it.

The captain of the Delhi Capitals - Axar Patel says that his team has let crucial moments slip through their fingers this season. He insists the side has played good cricket overall, but admits they have ended up on the wrong side in a couple of matches that could easily have gone either way. Axar believes that it is a long tournament and every day is not the same in the IPL. Hopes that they can put in good performances in the remaining games. Patel feels that they did well to pull things back after conceding nearly 60 runs in the first three overs. Believes the spells from Madhav Tiwari and Mukesh Kumar through the middle overs proved to be the turning point of the game. Axar also praises the batting effort after his dismissal, highlighting the contributions from David Miller, Ashutosh Sharma and Madhav in helping DC complete the chase. The DC skipper mentions that the ball was swinging and seaming throughout the innings, but DC did not bowl in the right areas during the opening overs despite the assistance on offer, which is why he stayed away from spin. Axar says teams always need a backup plan and mentions that although he has been batting higher up the order regularly, things clicked for him tonight. He also admits luck played a part after being dropped earlier in the innings. Patel finishes by saying the kind of cricket Delhi are playing and the bench strength they possess shows the future of the franchise is in good hands. According to him, youngsters stepping up in pressure situations is one of the most encouraging signs for the team.

Time for the presentation ceremony...

PBKS fly before DC fight back - Uncertain about what the pitch had to offer, Axar Patel invited the Punjab Kings to bat first. PBKS raced to 51 in the first three overs with Priyansh Arya teeing off. One feared the worst for DC, but their pacers settled in on that back-of-a-length and got the ball to move around enough to test the batters. Usually, Cooper Connolly and Shreyas Iyer would look to take the attack straight to the bowlers, but both batters quickly realised this was not an easy surface to hit through the line on. They instead stitched together a valuable partnership to set the platform for a strong finish, though Punjab were unable to capitalise at the death. It was all pace from DC, who bowled all 20 overs through their seamers, while PBKS sent down 19 overs of pace themselves without a single over of spin.

Punjab lose grip under pressure - It was the stand between Axar and David Miller that truly dragged Delhi back into the contest and began to make Punjab nervous. Arshdeep Singh was the shining light for the home side, but after starting well, the rest of the attack struggled to execute under pressure in the dewy conditions. Miller could not see the chase through till the end, but the likes of Ashutosh Sharma, Madhav Tiwari, and eventually Auqib Nabi helped take DC over the line.

Axar anchored the recovery - In pursuit of 211, DC lost three wickets in the Powerplay. When a bowling side manages that early, they more often than not end up on the winning side, but that was not to be for Punjab on the night. Axar Patel led the recovery for Delhi and joined hands with Tristan Stubbs to stitch together an important partnership. The momentum was briefly halted with Stubbs falling to a run out at an inopportune moment.

A quick word with David Miller - On the chat with Axar during their partnership, Miller says they were behind in the game, but he is full of praise for his skipper. He says Axar has been working really hard, and while it has not quite gone his way, he came out tonight with great intent and showed the boys what it is all about. He details that Axar dug in deep and came out with good energy, and the way he played allowed him (Miller) to take a couple of balls to get going. He feels they complemented each other pretty well. On navigating the death overs, Miller says it is a difficult thing, but it is about staying calm. Adds that there is always a long journey, and it is about staying present. He says he keeps clearing his mind of all the noise around run rates, fielding positions and bowling changes, and just tries to think with clarity. On whether there was an extra incentive playing against his former side, Miller says there is always an incentive, but feels it is just the nature of league cricket, going from one team to another. Says that it was a great opportunity to do what he loves and try to finish games. He jokes that he felt like a garbage truck getting out there at the backend, but is glad to have contributed when it mattered. On the surface, Miller shares that there was something in the wicket, with the odd ball staying low, but generally felt it had good bounce, and the ball travelled well. He stresses that it was about keeping the shape and playing good cricket shots.

The captain of the Punjab Kings - Shreyas Iyer, when asked where things went wrong, is very blunt about it. He does not beat around the bush and admits that their fielding and bowling let them down yet again. Admits that they were 30 above par with the way the ball was seaming and adds that there was some variable bounce as well. On whether there was a thought of giving Chahal an over, he says the thought was absolutely there. He adds that with the ball seaming as much as it did for the seamers, had they executed their plans more precisely, they could have finished on the winning side. On the death bowling strategy, he says they stuck to bowling into the surface. He adds that he always backs the hard length, feeling it is difficult for a batter coming in to deal with, and there is always a chance of a mishit producing a wicket.

The Capitals get the job done - Delhi keep themselves alive in the playoff race, however slim the chances may be. A target of 200 or more had never been chased down in Dharamsala before this game, but DC have managed to script history and pull off a much-needed result to keep their campaign breathing. It is now a fourth successive defeat for the Punjab Kings, and they just cannot arrest the slide at a crucial juncture of the tournament. Their bowling and fielding let them down once again on the night.

SIX! TONKED DOWNTOWN! DC BEAT PBKS BY 3 WICKETS. A wonderful run-chase by the Delhi Capitals after losing three early wickets, and this is the highest successful run chase in Dharamsala in IPL history. Yash bowls a low full toss, on off. Auqib Nabi stands deep inside the crease and smokes it powerfully over long off for a six and finishes the game off in style for his team. The Capitals keep themselves very much alive in the season, and this is the fourth straight loss for the Punjab Kings.

18.65nb

NO BALL, FOUR! Oh, dear! That's a very poor delivery and that should be the game for DC as they are almost there. Glum faces in the Punjab Kings' dugout. Yash slips in a high full toss, above the waist height on the leg stump line. Auqib Nabi swivels and pulls it on the bounce to the deep backward square leg fence for a boundary. SCORES ARE LEVEL!

Ashutosh Sharma can't quite see DC home, but the finishing line is in sight. Auqib Nabi is the new man in. Mind you, he is no mug with the bat.

18.5W

OUT! MISTIMED IN THE AIR AND CAUGHT! Is there another twist left in this game? Superb catch under pressure by the sub fielder, Praveen Dubey. Short and wide outside off, a well-directed bouncer hitting a good height. Ashutosh shuffles across the stumps, takes it on with the pull but doesn't quite get hold of it. Ends up top edging it to wide long on. Praveen Dubey covers a lot of ground to his right and pulls off a fantastic running catch. Delhi Capitals are 205/7, needing 6 runs from 7 balls.

18.46

SIX! DISAPPEARED! Short and wide outside off. Ashutosh Sharma has enough room to work with. Stands tall and carves it with an uppercut, clearing the deep third fence for six more. Just 6 runs needed off 8 balls.

18.31

At 137.2 kph, short of a length, on middle. Tiwari miscues the pull shot off the bottom end and it rolls to mid on for a single.

18.24

FOUR! That's very cleverly played! Overpitched delivery by Thakur. He misses the wide yorker by a few inches and Madhav Tiwari manages to get under it. Carves it to the left of the man at deep backward point and finds the fence on the bounce. 13 needed off 10 balls now.

18.10

Good, raw pace by Thakur! Slams the deck really hard, short and outside off. Madhav Tiwari moves outside off, and tries to whack it downtown with a flat batted angle, but misses to connect.

Yash Thakur (3-0-33-1) will bowl the 19th over. How much can he leave for the final over?

Nearly dragged on! On a length on leg. Madhav makes some room by stepping away and swings hard across the line, getting a thick inside edge that runs away past the leg stump to the fine leg region. Tiwari keeps the strike with a single.

17.56

SIX! Just enough bat on it! Into the slot, a real hit-me ball by Marcus, on middle and with pace taken off as well. Madhav creates room by getting the front leg out of the way and swings across the line. Suryansh Shedge at deep square leg leaps but the ball clears him and drops beyond the fence.

17.41

Oh, had to hurry there! At 126.6 kph, this is on a good length, outside off. Ashutosh Sharma punches it off the back foot to the cover region and sets off for a run. With no fielder there, Stoinis himself gets across and picks the ball. Throws it to the bowling end, but misses his shy and instead, the ball hits Ashutosh's leg, who scoots through.

17.36

SIX! So easily done! PBKS are back under pressure. Off pace delivery, short and on middle and leg. Ashutosh Sharma anticipates it and gets across in the crease before whipping it over the deep fine leg fence for a massive six.

17.24

FOUR! OH, WHAT A SHOT! Short by Stoinis, on top of off. Ashutosh Sharma stands tall and reads the length early. Swats it between long on and deep mid-wicket for a cracking boundary. 31 needed off 16 balls.

17.11

On a length, at a gentle pace, around off. Tiwari pulls it to deep mid-wicket for a single.

Marcus Stoinis is back. 2-0-25-1 so far for Stoinis.

A big swing and a miss! Ben Dwarshuis goes full, around off. Ashutosh Sharma dances down the track and swings to go down the ground, but connects with thin air. DC need 36 runs from 18 balls.

16.51

Length ball, on the stumps, worked across to the square leg region for a single.

16.44

FOUR! Incredible shot! Hard length, angled across. Madhav arches back and cuts it to the left of backward point for a boundary. The deep third fielder stands no chance to cut that off in the deep.

David Miller slams his bat onto the pads as he trudges off. Out walks Madhav Tiwari, who impressed with the ball earlier in the game. Can he now produce something special with the bat and take the Capitals over the line?

Commentary

Welcome back for DC's response with the bat. Punjab Kings opt to use their Impact Sub option by bringing in the right-arm seamer Yash Thakur, while Shashank Singh is subbed out. The PBKS players have taken their fielding spots. KL Rahul is accompanied by Abishek Porel as the two walk to the crease to open for DC. Arshdeep Singh has the new ball in hand and is raring to go. Here we go again...

... THE RUN CHASE ...

Enough runs on the board? Hmm... that's a tricky question, honestly. However, the recent record in Dharamsala has favoured the teams batting first. And according to Raunak Kapoor on air, no team has managed to chase the target in excess of 200 at this venue in the history of IPL. So, it's going to be quite an uphill task for the DC batting unit that hasn't performed in unison. We saw an all-pace attack from the Capitals, with not a single over of spin, with Axar holding himself back. It will be interesting to see how PBKS use Chahal, and with dew expected to come in, it sets up for a thrilling run chase ahead. Stay tuned.

DC's young seamer is up for a chat - Madhav Tiwari starts off saying that he is very happy that he got the opportunity, and also says that he tried to make the most of the conditions. Adds that there was some help for fast bowlers as well. On his bowling plans, he shares that he focused on hitting the right areas. Also details that his skipper, Axar, told him he'd bowl four overs tonight, and then he just went for length balls to trouble batters. On what Axar said after the Powerplay, he says Axar was pretty chill, asking him what fielding he wanted. He clarifies that they were not ignoring the scoreboard but he was focused on sticking to his plans. On the dew, Tiwari points out that the outfield is quite wet and the ball got wet after rolling on the turf, adding that it slipped off the hand too.

Shreyas, Connolly, Shedge bail PBKS out - Shreyas and Connolly put together a responsible alliance of 83 runs through the middle overs, with Shreyas the more fluent of the two early on before Connolly found his timing and started launching towards the backend. But DC simply could not find the penetration to break through the PBKS batting order, and the scoring rate hummed along at over ten an over throughout. Captain Shreyas Iyer brought up his fifty, before DC made a decent comeback through Madhav Tiwari and Mitchell Starc in the backend. Though they went for runs, they jolted PBKS from 180/2 to 187/5 with Shreyas starved of the strike. But a late cameo from Suryansh Shedge dragged them past the 200 mark.

Arya's blitz, followed by DC's little comeback - 51/0 in 3 overs. This was Punjab's score on a decent batting track that had a little bit of swing and variable bounce on it. Priyansh Arya showed his full range as he kept creaming the ball over the fence and completed his fifty. But even as the ball got a bit older, there was some help for the bowlers with Auqib Nabi and Mukesh Kumar bowling a couple of quiet overs. Prabhsimran never got going and was dismissed, whereas Madhav Tiwari claimed his first-ever IPL wicket in the form of the well-set Priyansh Arya. With two relatively new batters in, PBKS were 107/2 at halfway stage, still going at a fair clip due to the good foundation provided.

Intense fight in the first half - A total that is hard to read at first glance, given how explosively PBKS got off the blocks through Arya. But with the pitch offering decent help for the seamers, 210 does look like a competitive total on this surface. Also, full credit to Ngidi, who held his nerve in the final over despite DC being forced to keep an extra fielder inside the ring due to the slower over penalty.

FOUR! Mitchell Starc's effort goes in vain. At pace, low full toss, angled in at the sticks. Suryansh Shedge takes a step back in the crease and hoicks it away towards deep mid-wicket. Starc sprints to his right from long on and dives to push the ball away from the fence. Tristan Stubbs converges and mops it up. However, the replays show that Starc's feet were touching the boundary cushions when he pushed the ball away. So, a boundary to end the innings. Punjab Kings finish on 210/5.

19.51

Back to the dipping off-cutter, outside off. Iyer winds up but the ball drops on him and he adjusts by tapping it to long off for a single.

19.41

Pace on this time, low full toss, on the off stump. Suryansh is perhaps expecting another slower ball and is late on the shot. He swings but mistimes it to long off for one.

19.30

Deceived again! At 117.5 kph, off-cutter, outside off, dipping on the batter. Suryansh stands still this time and swings for the hills but fails to connect.

19.20

There's that dipping slower ball, full and outside off. With fine leg up inside the circle, Suryansh Shedge walks across for the scoop but the ball drops on him and goes under the bat to catch him on the pads.

19.11

Fine effort! Near the tramline, very full. Iyer gets low and carves it with an open bat face wide of deep point. Sahil Parakh is quick across the turf and he slides to his left to make the stop as the ball gets to him on the bounce. Just a single.

Quite an eventful over. Two wickets and 16 runs from the 19th. Lungi Ngidi to wrap it up and will bowl the last over of the innings. Oh, hang on! Delhi Capitals have been penalised for a slow-over rate. Meaning, an extra fielder will have to be stationed inside the inner ring for the final over. Also, there has been a change of ball between overs, as the previous one wasn't retrievable from the stands.

SIX! Fetch that, says the young man. 6,4,0,6 for Shedge against Starc. Mitchell switches to around the wicket and serves the short ball, on off. This comes just above the waist. Suryansh stays back and nails the pull shot over deep square leg for a 100-metre six.

18.50

Very full, going away. Suryansh Shedge fails to squeeze it out.

18.44

FOUR! Nicely done! Low full toss, angling away. Suryansh Shedge stays deep in the crease and hangs low. Takes it on the full and pumps it over mid off for a boundary.

18.36

SIX! The hat-trick ball has been dispatched. Dug in short, outside off. Suryansh picks up the length early and stands tall to flat bat it over long on for a biggie.

Starc making amends after being a bit expensive. Suryansh Shedge is in at number 7 and will face the Hat Trick ball.

18.2W

OUT! TAKEN! Two in two for Mitchell Starc. A golden duck for Shashank Singh. 180/2 becomes 187/5 for the Kings. Across off, on the fuller side. Shashank Singh hangs deep in the crease and with mid off inside the circle, he looks to go up and over that man. He fails to get any sort of elevation and Axar Patel at mid off snaffles it.

No fireworks for Stoinis tonight. In walks Shashank Singh at number 6.

18.1W

OUT! CAUGHT! Mitchell Starc strikes on his return to the attack. Angling across, on a back of a length, on off. Stoinis frees his arms and spanks it with a horizontal bat. He picks the bones out of it, but hits it flat to extra cover. Madhav Tiwari, stationed on the edge of the ring, makes no mistake as he takes a safe catch around his waist. Punjab Kings are 187/4, 11 balls left in the innings.

Mitchell Starc (3-0-41-0) will bowl the penultimate over.

SIX! Clean as a whistle! Seam-up ball, on a length, outside off. Iyer takes a step back in the crease and, with a clean swing of the arms, he tonks it over long on for a biggie. 19 runs and a wicket off Tiwari's final over.

17.51

A bit short, on off. This is slapped to deep point for one.

The night keeps getting better and better for Madhav. He has bowled a fine spell so far and has two big wickets. Marcus Stoinis is the new batter in at number 5.

17.4W

OUT! CAUGHT! Madhav Tiwari has his man. Madhav takes pace off and bangs it in short, on off. Cooper Connolly tries to drag the pull in front of square on the leg side but he fails to get on top of the bounce. Skies it high towards deep mid-wicket, where David Miller settles under it and gobbles it up. The 83-run stand has been broken. PBKS are 180/3.

17.34

FOUR! Just wide! Madhav Tiwari bowls it on a good length, on middle and leg. Cooper Connolly clears the front leg and has a swipe across the line. Get it high on the bat, and it goes towards deep mid-wicket, where David Miller moves to his right and flings himself at the ball with an outstretched right hand, but the ball evades him and goes into the fence.

17.21

Good cricket all around! Tiwari gets the yorker in, on off and middle. Shreyas squeezes it out to short third, where the fielder dives to his left to make the stop. They cross.

17.16

SIX! Shreyas Iyer brings up his FIFTY in style. On a challenging surface, Shreyas has fought it out for his side. The 5th half-century of the season for the Punjab skipper. Madhav Tiwari goes short but offers too much width. Shreyas dines in as he extends his hands and slaps it over cover for a six.

16.3W

OUT! STRAIGHT UP AND TAKEN! A big, big moment in the game. Good length around off. Miller waits for the slower one and goes for the pull without footwork, getting a top edge that flies straight up in the air. The keeper, Prabhsimran Singh calls for it and runs a long way forward into the short cover region. Keeps his eyes locked on the ball and dives forward to complete a fine catch. A brilliant knock from Miller comes to an end. He is furious with himself for not getting the job done for his team. Delhi Capitals are 170/6, needing 41 runs from 21 balls.

16.26

SIX MORE! FIFTY FOR DAVID MILLER! From just 27 balls and he has kept the Capitals very much alive in this contest. This is Miller's 14th IPL half-century to go along with a century. Half volley, at pace, outside off. Miller clears his front leg and swings it hard, and effortlessly clears the long on fence for half a dozen more.

16.16

SIX! It's Killer Miller time! He has made that shot look so easy. Back of a length, a slower leg cutter, outside off. David Miller stands tall, waits for it and swats it flatly over the long off fence for a six.

STRATEGIC BREAK! The game is deliciously poised with the Delhi Capitals needing 53 runs from 24 balls. If this has to be DC’s night, it will likely have to come through this pair currently at the crease. The altitude at which the stadium is situated and the way the ball travels nicely in Dharamsala mean that clearing the ropes is not that difficult. Executing with the ball in a dewy outfield is not easy, and that will test this Punjab bowling attack, which has often been taken apart this season. Ben Dwarshuis has been brought back into the attack. Dwarshuis has gone for 34 runs in his 3 overs.

FOUR! Not exactly where he intended to hit, but runs are runs at this stage. Pitched fuller and around the off pole, straightening off the surface slightly. Ashutosh Sharma positions himself to clobber it covers, but gets a thick outside edge. The ball flies over the ring and Yuzvendra Chahal runs to his right from deep third. Extends his right hand out while diving to palm the ball back in, but fails to prevent the boundary. Chahal holds his left shoulder and looks in a bit of pain out there as he lands hard on it. A massive over for the Capitals as 15 runs come off it.

15.51

Much fuller, on middle and leg, Miller flicks it to long on for a single.

15.46

SIX! Geez, that's muscled! Short in length, on middle, angling in. David Miller picks the length in a trice, and pulls it flatly, clearing the deep backward square leg fence for a six. 58 needed off 26 balls.

15.30

Pace off at 118.6 kph, on a length, outside off. Miller tries to cut it square on the off side, but is deceived by the lack of pace. An inside edge is found and the ball rolls back to the keeper.

15.24

FOUR! HAMMERED! Short from Marco, wide outside off. Miller swivels on the back foot and pulls it through the mid-wicket region and it travels to the fence like a tracer bullet.

15.10

14.41

OUT! IN THE AIR AND GONE! Punjab Kings strike back. A relief on the face of Marcus Stoinis on the completion of the catch. Understandable given the catching woes this season for Punjab. It is the slower one, floated up to the batter by Stoinis, around off. Axar collapses his back knee to launch it down the ground. He is early into the stroke and gets the height but not the distance. It goes only as far as long on, where Ben Dwarshuis settles under it but opts to take the catch low to the ground and makes no mistake. DC are 138/5, needing 73 more runs to win.

13.54

FOUR! Streaky, but they all count! A hat-trick of boundaries. Pushed across the left-hander, on a back of a length. Axar swings hard at the ball off the back foot. It flies off a thickish outside edge to the left of short third for four more.

13.44

FOUR! FIFTY FOR AXAR PATEL! He has been frustratingly short of runs this season, and this will give a lot of confidence in that DC camp. His 4th IPL fifty. And it has come at a time when his team needs the most. A muted celebration from the skipper as he knows the job is far from being done. Stoinis misses his length on the shorter side. Axar clears his front leg and muscles it to the left of long on for a boundary.

13.34

FOUR! Aerial but in the gap! Stoinis bends his back and digs it in short, on middle and leg. Axar is cramped for room and even though the ball comes off the upper half of the blade, he manages to get the pull shot away. Hits it to the left of the deep mid-wicket fielder and picks up a boundary.

13.31wd

Wide! Takes pace off and goes short. This drifts beyond the tramline. Axar flashes but fails to connect.

13.20

Honing in on the off stump, on a good length. Axar stabs it down the strip.

13.21wd

Wide! Very full but down leg, Axar misses out on the glance. Stoinis is not happy with the wide call and to be fair, Axar did walk across the stumps.

13.10

Starts with the short ball, over off. Axar arches back and gets low to play the uppercut but misses.

Change of ball. The current ball has gotten too damp and hence it is being replaced. The fourth umpire is out with the box of replacement balls. The on-field umpires pick another one and we are good to go. And Shreyas Iyer is back on the field and resumes his captaincy duties as well. Still no introduction of Chahal into the attack and understandably so as there's a lot of dew out there. Marcus Stoinis is back on, replacing Ben Dwarshuis.

12.51

12.41

FIVE WIDES! Too much for Prabhsimran Singh to do. Bonus runs for the Capitals. Yash Thakur comes up with the bouncer, over middle. Axar charges down the track but watches the ball sail over his head. Prabhsimran Singh leaps and sticks out his right hand. The ball clips his fingertips and goes behind into the fence. 8 runs off the over with three balls still left.

12.32

Good effort! Thakur bashes the hard length, over off. Axar waits on the back foot and runs it down to deep third with an open bat face. The ball skips across the damp outfield, but Ben Dwarshuis runs to his left and dives to save the boundary. A couple of runs for Patel.

12.20

Dug in short, across off. Axar Patel shuffles a long way across the stumps for the scoop but fails to connect.

12.11

Nearly chopped it on! Thakur hits the good length, on off. Miller hangs back to deal with it. The ball catches an inside edge before deflecting onto the back pad. It dribbles beside the stumps and Axar calls David through for a quick single.

DC need 98 runs from 48 balls. Yash Thakur (2-0-22-1) is back on, replacing Marcus Stoinis. Also, Stoinis is currently the stand-in captain for the Punjab Kings, as Shreyas Iyer is off the field for some reason.

STRATEGIC BREAK! A crushing blow for the Delhi Capitals. Just when they had built a partnership and would have looked to put their feet down after the timeout, the stand has been broken. The required rate has climbed close to 12, and DC will need to ensure it does not spiral further out of control. This is not the kind of surface where a new batter can walk in and go bang-bang from ball one. David Miller walks out to bat. Can he launch a counterpunch and swing the momentum back in DC's favour?

Shaping back in late, on a length, on the pads. Tristan wrists it through backward square leg for a run.

4.42wd

Two wides! Sprayed down leg, Axar misses out on the tickle. The ball bounces in front of Prabhsimran Singh, who moves to his right but fails to make a clean stop. It goes behind and the batters cross for one.

This is turning out to be a superb spell from Arshdeep already, and the improvement in PBKS's fielding tonight has been there for all to see. Axar Patel, the DC skipper, is in at number 5.

4.3W

OUT! CAUGHT! Third wicket in the Powerplay for the Punjab Kings. The youngster's stay has been cut short. Parakh shows his cards early as he comes down the track. Arshdeep adjusts by pulling the length back and angling it into the body of the batter. Parakh arches back, looking to play the ramp. He fails to get the elevation, and it goes low to short third. Yuzvendra Chahal gets low to take the catch and the ball threatens to pop out of his grasp but he manages to hold on close to his body.

4.21

On the shorter side, on middle and leg. Stubbs jabs it on the bounce to deep backward square leg. They cross.

FOUR! Sahil Parakh made it look so easy. Hurls it on a back of a length, in line with the off stump. Parakh presents a high elbow and plays the lofted hit on the rise. He angles the bat face and gets it over cover. The ball bounces just in front of the boundary cushions.

3.52

Honing in on the off pole, bowled on a good length. Parakh lets the ball come to him and he steers it with an open bat face, wide of deep backward point for a brace.

Dishes it out on a hard length, over off. Stubbs pushes at the ball with hard hands. It goes off an outside edge behind point for one.

2.40

Across off, on a good length. That is defended solidly off the front foot.

Absolute delight in the PBKS dugout and Ricky Ponting is all smiles as well. And this is the second, or maybe the third time that KL Rahul has been dismissed off the top edge this season. Tristan Stubbs is in at number 4. Two slips in place.

2.3W

OUT! CAUGHT! Marco Jansen holds onto it. Arshdeep Singh strikes now, and DC have been dealt a big blow. Hits the back of a length, on middle and leg. Rahul presses back and swivels a bit to play more of a jab rather than the pull. The ball stands up on the batter and a top edge is found. It goes high in the air towards the deep fine leg region. The man in the deep is a bit square and hence, the keeper, Prabhsimran Singh and Marco Jansen from slip go after it. Jansen gets to the ball first and extends his hands out in front to take a good catch whilst getting on his knees.

2.24

FOUR! Off the edge! Arshdeep continues to push the ball across the right-hander, on a nagging length. Rahul looks to go down the ground as he swings through the line. Gets an outside edge and the ball sails over the leaping Marco Jansen at slip before going into the fence.

Connects with thin air! Angling away, on a length. Rahul puts his head down and swings to launch it back over the bowler's head. The ball leaves him with the angle to go past the bat.

Sensational piece of bowling from Thakur. DC in early trouble as they need 201 from 109 balls with the opening pair separated. Sahil Parakh walks in at number 3.

1.5W

OUT! CLEANED HIM UP! The middle stump has been uprooted. The change of angle does the trick for Yash Thakur. Switches to around the wicket and slips in a good-length ball at the sticks at 143.2 kph. Porel brings his bat out in front, looking to force it down the ground. The ball comes in off the deck to beat him on the inside edge. It goes through the bat and the pad gap, and Porel hears the death rattle. DC are 10/1, chasing 211.

1.44

FOUR! Gets it away! At 139.4 kph, banged in short but too straight, on leg. Porel swivels for the pull but is late on the shot. It brushes the gloves and beats the diving keeper to his right before going into the fence.

1.30

Goes full now, on off. Abishek's feet go nowhere and he gets his hands through the ball. He firms the drive but can't beat Shreyas Iyer at mid off.

1.20

Hits the bat hard, does Thakur. This is on a good length, in and around the off pole. Abishek hangs back to defend.

1.10

Good start! Angling across off at 136.7 kph, on a good length. Porel pushes away from his body but is beaten for pace as the ball zips through.

0.24

FOUR! Rahul and the Capitals are underway! Moving away in the air, on a length. KL steps out to negate the swing. He looks to defend it with soft hands initially, but then tries to withdraw his bat. The ball goes off the outer half towards short third. Yuzvendra Chahal is late to dive to his left. He gets a hand on it, but it is not enough. The slip fielder goes after it, but the ball wins the race.

0.10

A hint of shape for Arshdeep. Goes full in search of swing and gets the ball to curve away, on middle. Rahul presents the full face of the blade and blocks it off.

17.11wd

Wide! Takes pace off and goes into the surface. Sprays it down leg and Iyer looks to hook it away but misses.

The bat turns in his hand and it is sliced off the outer half to the left of deep cover. One bounce and it trickles into the fence. This brings up the 150 for Punjab Kings.

Slower this time, back of a length, on off and middle. Shreyas Iyer camps back and tucks it with soft hands toward the vacant mid-wicket region. Abishek Porel charges in from the deep, but fails to pick the ball up in one go and that allows the batters to complete the second run comfortably.

13.44

13.11

On a hard length, on middle, Cooper Connolly opens the face of his bat and punches it toward deep cover to get a single.

STRATEGIC BREAK! Shreyas and Connolly have put together a handy little stand, though it is Shreyas who has looked the more fluent of the two. Connolly has struggled to find his timing so far. The Capitals have managed to stop the leakage of runs to some extent, but still, PBKS are hovering around 10s per over. Surprisingly, Axar has held himself back as it has been all pace from DC so far. And the seamers have got a decent bit of help, even as the ball has gotten softer. Yorker outside off. Iyer jams it right under the bat, and the ball rolls towards Porel at first slip. Shreyas calls for a quick run. Porel overruns the ball while collecting it, and Rahul has to move across to collect afterwards. One taken. 100 UP FOR PUNJAB KINGS!

9.12

In the air... but lands safely! Mitchell Starc scoots from over the wicket and bowls fuller, wide outside off. Shreyas Iyer attempts to loft it over the cover region, but fails to get the timing right. It is skied well over wide mid off. The fielder in the region goes after it but the ball drops out of his reach. Two runs taken.

First 3 overs - 51/0, next 6 overs - 46/2. One left-hander replaces the other. Here is Cooper Connolly. Mitchell Starc is back. This should be fun. Starc vs Iyer.

OUT! STRAIGHT UP AND CAUGHT! A big moment for the youngster as he is rewarded with a wicket in the very first over. Madhav lands it fuller and outside off, and this one curves away late from the left-hander. Arya looks to loft it inside out, but slices it high towards deep point due to the movement. Gets no timing at all and Sahil Parakh takes a simple catch in the deep. Tiwari probed the batters and has picked up his maiden wicket in the IPL. PBKS are 97/2 in 9 overs.

8.50

Back of a length, on the leg stump. Priyansh Arya looks to pull it but gets hit on the thigh pad, before it rolls toward the left of the keeper.

8.44

FOUR! Bread and butter for Priyansh! On a back of a length, slanting outside off. Priyansh Arya gets on top of the bounce and lofts it over extra cover for a cracking boundary. Arya has been really productive in that region this evening.

8.30

Well bowled! Bends his back and digs it in short, over middle. Priyansh Arya tries to take on the short ball with the pull but the ball climbs onto him and sails over the blade.

8.21

Skids through, in the channel, slightly fuller. Shreyas Iyer deliberately opens the bat face at the point of contact and runs it to the left of deep third for a single.

Axar Patel is helping Madhav Tiwari with some sawdust on the landing area.

8.14b

FOUR BYES! Free runs for the Punjab Kings! Madhav Tiwari bowls it on a good length, on the fifth stump, not much movement. Shreyas Iyer stays on his back foot and tries to push it toward cover, but gets beaten on the outside edge. The ball drops just in front of the keeper, KL Rahul, and he fails to gather it. The ball nutmegs him and races away to the fence for four byes.

Madhav Tiwari to bowl now. The seam-bowling all-rounder is playing his first game of the season.

At 132.9 kph, good length, outside off. Iyer responds with a crisp back foot punch to deep point for a single.

7.50

Hard-length delivery, outside off, Iyer eases it to Abishek Porel in the backward point region.

7.40

Back of a length, on top of off. Shreyas Iyer gets right behind the line and bunts it solidly to the bowler.

7.34

FOUR! Streaky! Nabi bangs it on a hard length, just outside the off stump. Shreyas Iyer rocks back and looks to defend, but gets nicked on the outside edge. Luckily, the ball flies away to the right of the keeper and races away toward the deep third fence.

7.24

FOUR! Helped on its way! Short ball, arriving at shoulder height, on leg. Shreyas Iyer gets inside the line and lifts his front leg to balance himself. Uses his wrists to good effect and guides it fine to the deep fine leg fence for a four. The PBKS skipper is off the mark.

7.11

Much fuller from Nabi, pitching it just outside off. Priyansh Arya looks to loft it over cover, but gets the connection from the outer half of the bat. The ball flies flat and drops well short of the deep backward point fielder. Single taken.

Time to bring back Mitchell Starc? Nope, Axar Patel persists with Auqib Nabi, who will bowl out now. 3-0-22-0 so far for Nabi.

JAFFA! Back of a length with extra zip and bounce off the surface, outside off. Shreyas Iyer goes fishing at it, but the ball passes above his angled bat. A successful over for DC and Mukesh. A wicket and just 6 runs from it.

End of a scratchy stay for Prabhsimran Singh. Punjab's skipper, Shreyas Iyer walks in at number 3 ahead of Cooper Connolly, possibly to keep the left-hand, right-hand combination going.

6.5W

OUT! IN THE AIR AND TAKEN! Mukesh strikes and breaks the opening partnership. On a back of a length, nipping back in from middle. Prabhsimran Singh looks to play the pick-up shot, but has little room to work with. Ends up shanking it off the higher part of the bat to deep backward square leg. The ball dips on Auqib Nabi at the mentioned position, but he does well to dive forward and cleanly scoop the ball before the ground. Prabhsimran Singh struggled throughout his stay to time the ball, and he now walks back to the dugout. PBKS are 78/1 after 6.5 overs.

6.41

Full, on leg, Arya presses in front and pings it down to long on for an easy single.

6.31

Angling in, back of a length, on middle and leg. Prabhsimran Singh dabs it toward the right of the bowler and gets a comfortable single.

6.20

BEATEN! Hits the hard length, in the channel of off, Prabhsimran Singh stays put in the crease and goes for a square cut on the off side, only to miss out. Good carry there to the keeper.

6.21wd

WIDE! And again. A bit too straight, down the leg stump line. Prabhsimran Singh tries to whip it away, but misses. Another extra.

6.21wd

WIDE! Loses his radar completely, does Mukesh. Goes short, but sprays it far down leg. Singh ignores. KL Rahul collects it to his left. Wide given.

6.12

Misfield! Mukesh Kumar bowls fuller, just outside off. Prabhsimran Singh lunges and drills it toward the deep cover-point fielder. Madhav Tiwari is the man who fumbles, and the batter gets the opportunity to run the second.

STRATEGIC BREAK! This has been an eventful start to the first game of the season in Dharamsala. It could have been far worse for the Delhi Capitals after Punjab Kings raced to 51 in the first three overs, but DC responded well by conceding just 21 runs in the next three. Auqib Nabi has shown the way by hitting the right lengths and getting the ball to seam around off the surface. How long the movement continues for the quicks remains to be seen. Mukesh Kumar to resume proceedings after the break.

Absolute pearler from Nabi! This one rears up a bit and nips away from a good length, around off. Arya is squared up and the ball whistles past his bat on its way to the keeper. Just 2 runs from the over. PBKS end their Powerplay with 72/0 on the board.

5.50

Loose from Arya! In-between length, angling wide outside off, and seaming away further off the pitch. Priyansh Arya does not move his feet at all and loosely hangs his bat away from his body. Gets beaten past the outside edge by a kitten-whisker.

On a good length, on leg, Arya works it off the back foot to the wide mid on region for a single to complete his milestone. He has been aggressive, but has looked in complete control of his shots.

He leaps but fails to lay a hand on the ball, and it drops beyond the fence.

The bell has been rung, and we are all set to get going. Raunak Kapoor mentions that it is a chilly evening, with temperatures expected to drop as low as 13 degrees Celsius tonight. Axar Patel leads his troops out to the centre. Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya are the two openers for the Kings. Mitchell Starc will kickstart proceedings with the new ball for the Capitals. Arya will face the first ball. A slip in place. Let's play...

Impact sub options for DC - Ashutosh Sharma, Sameer Rizvi, Tripurana Vijay, Pathum Nissanka and Vipraj Nigam.

Delhi Capitals (Playing XI) - Abishek Porel (In for Nitish Rana), KL Rahul (WK), Sahil Parakh (In for Sameer Rizvi), Tristan Stubbs, David Miller (In for Pathum Nissanka), Axar Patel (C), Madhav Tiwari (In for Vipraj Nigam), Mukesh Kumar, Auqib Nabi (In for Kuldeep Yadav), Lungi Ngidi and Mitchell Starc.

Impact sub options for PBKS - Harpreet Brar, Yash Thakur, Xavier Bartlett, Vishnu Vinod and Praveen Dubey.

Punjab Kings (Playing XI) - Prabhsimran Singh (WK), Priyansh Arya, Cooper Connolly, Shreyas Iyer (C), Suryansh Shedge, Marcus Stoinis, Shashank Singh, Marco Jansen, Ben Dwarshuis (On IPL debut) (In for Lockie Ferguson), Arshdeep Singh and Yuzvendra Chahal.

The skipper of the Punjab Kings - Shreyas Iyer says it is difficult to judge how pitches are playing until teams actually get out there and bat on them. Mentions that there is no need to think too much about the points table at this stage, with the focus instead being on getting the small details right and backing instincts in pressure situations. According to Shreyas, that is one area where the side has fallen short in the last few matches. He also acknowledges that ups and downs are part and parcel of the IPL, and says the key is to consistently bring out the best performance possible. Iyer confirms that Ben Dwarshuis comes into the side for Lockie Ferguson, who is dealing with a slight niggle.

The captain of the Delhi Capitals - Axar Patel cheekily admits that the toss is the only thing which has gone their way in recent games. Also says they have been losing crucial moments in the game, but quickly adds that they have been playing good cricket. On DC still being mathematically alive in the season, Axar says they do not want to rely on other teams or worry about results. He adds that, irrespective of what happens, they just want to play their brand of cricket and take it as a team. He adds that when you win, you enjoy it, so whenever you have the time, you should make the most of it. On whether they are chasing because they have been doing it well this season, Axar clarifies that it is more about the conditions. He says it is a fresh wicket in Dharamsala and a high-scoring ground, and with it being their first game here, they do not really know how it plays. He adds that it usually swings a bit with the new ball for the fast bowlers, so they want to put the opposition in first and see how the surface behaves. Informs that they have five changes in the playing XI, with Abishek Porel, Sahil Parakh, David Miller, Auqib Nabi and Madhav Tiwari coming into the side.

TOSS - Time for the flip of the coin. The two captains are present in the middle. Axar Patel calls it correctly. Delhi Capitals opt to BOWL first.

DEBUT ALERT - Australia's left-arm seamer, Ben Dwarshuis, has been handed his maiden cap by Arshdeep Singh in the Punjab huddle. He is all set to make his debut for the Kings, but who makes way for him?

Time to hear from DC's pacer - Lungi Ngidi, on being asked about his injury scare, says he is fine now, and all is good. Admits that it was a bit of a scary time for him, and it served as a big reality check. On failing to defend 264 in the previous game against PBKS, he admits he was flabbergasted on following the scores. He says it was one of the best wickets they had played on and the boundary sizes did not help either, but adds that that is how the game goes sometimes. On staying effective and fit across formats, Ngidi shares that he has learned from the older guys to just keep bowling. He feels there is a lot of focus on gym work and conditioning, but believes it is the overs under the belt that matter the most.

A quick word from PBKS' young star - Cooper Connolly says he is looking forward to playing in Dharamsala and hopes to put on a show for the fans. Reflecting on the century he scored in the previous game, the youngster says he has taken the positives from the knock while also assessing what he could have done even better. Connolly believes that every innings starts from zero, and his focus remains on sticking to his processes and trusting his skills. He says he is thoroughly enjoying the challenge of facing world-class bowlers, while acknowledging that some pitches are great for batting and others offer more assistance to bowlers, something he welcomes as part of the contest. When asked by Alan Wilkins about when he might start bowling again, Cooper informs that he will not be taking any part with the ball in this tournament. Adds that bowling is something he added to his game around four or five years ago. Connolly also reveals that he initially bowled left-arm medium pace like his father before eventually switching to spin to ease the workload on his body.

PITCH REPORT - Danny Morrison mentions that there were thunderstorms overnight in Dharamsala, but the ground is now looking an absolute picture ahead of the contest. He also points out a slight imbalance in the square boundaries at 63 and 65 metres respectively, while it stretches out to 72 metres straight down the ground. Nick Knight feels it is a surface where he would love to get the pads on and have a hit. He notes that there is a nice, even covering of coarse grass on a hard pitch, and if there is any assistance for bowlers, it is likely to come with the hard new ball. Overall, though, he expects the ball to come nicely onto the bat. The average first innings score across the last five matches here stands at 209, while teams batting first have enjoyed greater success at the venue.

Pitch expectations and records - The overall head-to-head record between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals reads 18 wins to 17, marginally in favor of the Kings. And the recent history is just as closely fought. Since 2023, Punjab edge it 3-2, while at Dharamsala specifically, it’s a stalemate at 2-2. As for conditions, overcast skies were hovering over the ground through the afternoon, which typically aids the seamers and keeps the batters honest early on. But clearer, more pleasant weather is expected by match time, and when the clouds part, the pitch tends to open up nicely for batting. That said, the weather here can shift without much warning in the span of a few minutes, and the odd shower cannot be entirely ruled out. We hope for a full and competitive game of cricket. Toss and team updates coming up shortly. Stay tuned.

Team combinations and updates - The big news from the Punjab camp is the return of Afghan all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai, who has rejoined the squad. He could well come straight into the playing XI, with the struggling Bartlett the most likely one to make way. A like-for-like change in theory, but Omarzai brings considerably more firepower and batting flexibility to the side. Delhi, with the elimination sword hanging over them, are unlikely to tinker too much. Though there is an outside chance that the out-of-form Kuldeep Yadav finds himself on the bench, with the conditions here potentially prompting the bringing in of an extra seamer instead. But again, all these are just speculations.

Scenarios at the scenic venue - To put things into perspective of what weightage this game holds, let us take a quick sneak peek at the points table. Sunday offered two back-to-back humdingers and the results from those games have only intensified the competition. The top three teams are at 14 points. The teams placed fifth and sixth have 12 points. And sandwiched between them are the Punjab Kings in the fourth position with 13 points, right at the playoff knife-edge. Win this and their early-season dominance gets its reward. They go to the top of the table. The uncomfortable news? Lose this and the top four, which felt so secure, suddenly need protecting all over again. Delhi Capitals arrive here with no such luxury of perspective. A loss here and they are out of the playoff race, plain and simple. MI and LSG have already made their walk through the exit door. Delhi simply cannot afford to be next. But to stay alive, every game remaining is a must-win for them.

S19, E55 - The Indian summer has been scorchingly unforgiving. Ground after ground, city after city, the heat has been as relentless as the cricket itself. But today, IPL 2026 finds its most spectacular refuge. Welcome to Dharamsala, cradled in the lap of the Himalayas, where the Dhauladhar range watches over the HPCA Stadium like nature’s own grandstand. Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals meet here in Match 55. Two sides that have been feeling the heat in more ways than one lately, and now they must perform in the one place where the heat has finally let up.

... MATCH DAY ...

The hills are calling - Nestled at over 1400 metres above sea level in the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh, Dharamsala wears many identities at once. It is the home of the Dalai Lama, and a town where Buddhist monasteries sit quietly above the noise of the world. The upper reaches of the town, known as McLeod Ganj, carry a distinct character altogether. Prayer flags flutter along narrow lanes, monks in maroon robes move unhurried through the markets, and the mountains loom so close you feel you could reach out and touch the snow on the Dhauladhar peaks. There is a stillness here that few cities can offer, a sense that time slows down the moment you climb above the plains. The HPCA Stadium sits within this world like a quiet miracle. Perched on the edge of the hills, with the Dhauladhars rising behind the sightscreen on a clear afternoon, it is arguably the most picturesque cricket ground in the world. But Dharamsala is not here to offer postcards. IPL 2026 arrives in these hills for the first time this season with urgency in its boots. Punjab Kings host Delhi Capitals in Match 55, and with the top four race tightening every evening, neither side can afford to treat this as a scenic detour. The hills are calm. The cricket will not be. No room for error now - Absolutely. Both teams arrive wounded in Dharamsala. Punjab Kings had looked like a side written in a different ink to everyone else earlier this season. Six wins from their first seven games, table toppers for nearly half the tournament, a team that carried the swagger of genuine title contenders. But form in the IPL is fragile, and PBKS have since lost three on the bounce. The momentum that felt so assured has quietly slipped. They still sit third, but the hunting pack behind them is closing in with every passing evening, and the cushion is thinner than it looks. Such is the delicacy of their situation that one more defeat here could see them tumble out of the top four altogether. A slip-up they could just not afford to happen. As for the Delhi Capitals, it’s been a season to forget so far. They began with back-to-back wins, full of promise and early momentum, but that bright start now feels like a distant memory. Since those opening two victories, DC have not managed to string consecutive wins together even once. They are currently eighth on the points table, and every game from here is a must-win to keep their qualification hopes alive. Their remaining three games are against teams placed above them in the table, so it is not going to be an easy ride at all for the Capitals. Searching the lost spark - PBKS still boast one of the most fearsome batting units in the competition, but their two most influential men at the top have found it tough in recent games, and that has hurt the team more than anything else. Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya have been the heartbeat to set the tone in the Powerplay and give the middle order the platform to launch. But in the last three games, that platform has not materialised. Prabhsimran has managed just 77 runs in this stretch while Priyansh has scored only 32. The numbers reflect in the results too. Punjab have lost seven wickets in the Powerplay across those three defeats, with both openers falling inside the first six overs in two of them. There is, however, a reason for optimism. The last time this opening stand truly clicked was against the Delhi Capitals. The pair put on 126 together that evening, serving as the catalyst for what became the highest successful run chase in IPL history. Punjab will be hoping that facing the same opposition, in more familiar surroundings this time, brings out that version of their opening pair again. A glimmer of positivity - Not everything is doom and gloom for Punjab, though. The middle order has been churning out runs even through this bumpy patch, and that is something to hold onto. Marcus Stoinis has been in terrific touch, and Cooper Connolly has announced himself in style with a stunning century against SRH, even if it came on the wrong side of the result. There is runs and confidence in this middle order, and that counts for something. Shreyas Iyer has not quite fired at the strike rate he is known for in recent games, but he remains the heartbeat of this batting unit. His 71 off 36 balls against these very opponents earlier in the season is proof enough of what he can produce when the moment demands it. Bowling and fielding struggles - There is a famous cricketing adage. Catches win matches. PBKS, for all the dominance they have shown with the bat and even ball for that matter, have been equally poor with their fielding. They are currently among the teams with the lowest catching efficiency in this season, having shelled the simplest of catches. Even against SRH, they missed four, or maybe five chances, and when you do not convert those easy chances, there is a need for serious introspection. The bowling has shown cracks too. Powerplay returns of 79/1, 58/1 and 84/1 in their last three games tell a story of growing tensions. And at the centre of that concern is Arshdeep Singh. The spearhead has looked off colour both with the new ball and at the death, with his economy reading 10.42 in recent games, among the worst in this Punjab unit. A fit and firing Arshdeep is non-negotiable for this team. Right now, they need him to find himself, and quickly. What is going wrong with DC? ‘We will think about what plans we can make for the next year.’ These were Axar Patel's words after Delhi's previous game, and they cut through like a brutal summary of where this campaign stands. Though they are still not officially knocked out, that sword is hanging over them scarily. At a point in the season when every other team is locked in a fierce battle for the top four, the Capitals are searching for combinations, searching for momentum, searching for something to hold onto. A side still finding itself - At the centre of all their problems is batting inconsistency, and the previous game against KKR only widened the cracks that were already visible. Scroll back through their last four defeats and a pattern emerges. All of them have come while defending, including a stunning failure to protect 264 against these very opponents, the Punjab Kings, at home. Zoom into their last three games, and the picture gets grimmer. This is the same unit that chased down 226 against an in-form RR, so the firepower is there. But batting first, they have badly struggled. 75 all out against RCB. A middling 155 against CSK. A laboured 142 against KKR. Three totals that gave their bowlers nothing to work with. Beyond KL Rahul and Pathum Nissanka, the middle order has looked fragile. Tristan Stubbs and Ashutosh have offered the odd bright moment, but the overdependence on the top two has made every innings a precarious exercise. With Axar hinting at wholesale changes to test the bench, DC head into Dharamsala looking as uncertain about their best XI as they have all season. Guns, but not all loaded - DC have the names to make any batting unit uncomfortable. Mitchell Starc, Lungi Ngidi, Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav in the same XI is as potent a bowling combination as any in this tournament on paper. But paper and reality have told different stories this season. Kuldeep and Natarajan have struggled not just to pick wickets but have leaked runs at an alarming rate. Axar has held his end up admirably, but with next to no support from his spin partner, the pressure on the skipper has only multiplied. The middle overs have become a problem area, with Kuldeep going for plenty and failing to provide the control and breakthroughs that DC desperately need. And at the death, Natarajan looked brittle. Team form (Last 5 completed IPL matches, recent first) PBKS - LLLWW | DC - LLWLL. What to expect? The HPCA Stadium features a fast, batting-friendly pitch that offers excellent pace, bounce, and carry, often resulting in high-scoring games. Situated at a high altitude, the surface assists pacers with early swing and movement, while small boundaries and fast outfield favour batters. Yet, of the 14 IPL matches played here, teams chasing have won only five times, with six of the last seven won by the side batting first. And despite the small dimensions and fast conditions, the 200-run mark has been breached just four times at this ground, suggesting that the bowlers have often got some assistance as well. But the scores have more often than not hovered between the 180-200 figure on average. Both teams would do well to note that putting runs on the board first has been the winning formula at Dharamsala far more often than not.
