Commentary

Right then, the Indian skipper, Suryakumar Yadav goes on to collect the series-winning trophy and joins his teammates on the podium to rejoice and enjoy the moment. He hands the trophy to the newcomers of the national team and the team poses for a photograph as well. That is it then from this game and this series as well but both teams now have a Test series to look forward to. South Africa welcome Sri Lanka for a couple of Test matches as the other group of Indian players is already in Australia, gearing up for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. You can switch tabs and check all the fixtures and our coverage as well. Until next time then, take care and goodbye!

The Indian skipper, Suryakumar Yadav starts by saying that there's no secret to adapting to the conditions, it's just that they had a very clear plan, similar to last year and wanted to focus on each game individually. Adds that it is very difficult to chose the better knock from the two centurions but all three top-order batters played really well. Mentions that they knew once the lights came on and the temperature dropped, the bowlers would get in the game. Goes on to say that whenever you win an ICC tournament, that too from the situation they won, it gives you a boost even in a place like South Africa where it is difficult to win. Says that the support staff have been enjoying the show and allowed the players to go out and do things on their own.

Aiden Markram, the captain of South Africau, says that it is quite hard to sum up this series and very disappointed because they have been outplayed in all parts of the game. Unfortunately for them, they lost the series and India has played really well throughout the series. Adds that you can’t just hit the stumps all the time and you have to execute other plans as well and they couldn’t be able to do that. It is part of the game. Mentions that as a team, it is a good reflection for them for the 2026 World Cup, they are in the hunt for better players with better skills and they are trying to invest in a side where players are all-rounders. Concludes that Marco Jansen has been brilliant throughout the series.

Tilak Varma is the Player of the Match and also the Player of the Series for his sensational batting efforts. Varma says that he got out on the first ball here when he played at the Wanderers last year and wanted to change that and it turned out to be a crucial innings for him. Adds that he backs himself and tries to follow his basics. On the back-to-back hundreds, he says that it feels wonderful and he cannot express the feeling in words. Mentions that he was injured for a couple of months but just believed in his process and the almighty and that celebration was for that.

Varun Chakaravarthy is the Game-changer of the Series. He says that the last two matches were challenging because of the short boundaries but he executed the team-made plans and now they have won the series. Adds that he is pretty happy with bowling with Ravi Bishnoi and that has helped both of them in taking these much wickets in the series. Concludes that the best approach was to stay away from the arc and bowl outside off most of the time to force batters to play out of their reach.

The Presentation ceremony...

Earlier in the day, India opted to bat first on a pitch that looked solid for batting and they didn't waste time in getting out of the blocks. The openers smashed quick runs in the Powerplay after which a record stand of 210 runs between Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma just blew away the opposition bowlers. Marco Jansen was the one bright light as he made valuable contributions with both bat and ball yet again but the rest of the bowling attack never managed to build any sort of pressure on the batters. Eventually, the total on the board was just too high and the Proteas crumbled inside the Powerplay with the bat.

The story has been the same for the South Africans. They’ve struggled big time! This though could well be a morale deflating defeat. The margin is massive. Agreed they batted in tougher conditions and one can blame the bowling but the batting wasn't nearly good enough. The top three failed again so did Heinrich Klaasen and only the likes of Tristan Stubbs, David Miller and Marco Jansen managed to muster up some runs with the game already gone.

India finish just as they started! A thumping win for the Indians to round off a brilliant series for them! This game was probably done in the first half! The twin tons from Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma batted the hosts out of the game. The Indian pacers were brilliant with the new ball as they ripped through the top order. Arshdeep Singh picked up three wickets as Hardik Pandya got a wicket too. The spinners then contributed too to round off a massive win for the visitors as Ramandeep Singh finished things off with his first international wicket.

18.2W

OUT! CAUGHT! A maiden T20I wicket for Ramandeep Singh and what a way to wrap up the game from India! Singh takes pace off and pitches the ball up a bit around off. Lutho Sipamla looks to heave across the line but is early in the shot and ends up slicing it high around backward point. Axar Patel takes a simple catch there and South Africa are bundled out for 148 runs. India win by 135 runs and take the series 3-1 as well!

18.12

Good length around off, Lutho Sipamla opens the bat face and pushes it away through covers for a couple of runs.

17.50

Bowled short over off and turning away, Jansen looks to cut but misses.

17.40

Well, that seemed like a prank almost! Held back on a length and angled in from outside off, Marco Jansen goes for the reverse sweep but ends up dabbing it down into the pitch and one bounce into the hands of Suryakumar Yadav at first slip. Sanju Samson goes up in appeal and the umpires, surprisingly do go upstairs to check whether that came right off the boot or not. The replays show that it was far away from the boot.

17.31

Flatter one, angled in with the arm towards the pads, tucked away past square leg for a single.

17.20

16.32

DROPPED! Ravi Bishnoi spills an easy chance and Ramandeep Singh has to wait for his maiden international wicket. Hard length around off, Keshav Maharaj stands tall and swings across the line but gets a top edge down to fine leg. Bishnoi there never settles under it and the ball ends up going through the hands and gets hit on the neck but thankfully, he is fine. Two taken! The physio has come out to have a look and it seems like Bishnoi's right ear is in pain but he is good to go.

Strategic break! Well then, just a couple of wickets left for South Africa and they still need more than half the runs with 27 legal deliveries to play with. India have sealed the series win and it is just about how many more runs can the hosts can get from here to curtail the damage. Also, Keshav Maharaj is in next.

15.3W

OUT! CAUGHT! Axar Patel gets into the wickets column on his third delivery and Gerald Coetzee has to depart here. The keeper, Sanju Samson takes a simple catch and South Africa are now 8 down.

15.20

Flatter and around off, cut away in front of point for no run.

Commentary

We are back for the exciting chase! The umpires are in position and the Indian players have taken their places on the field. It will be the pairing of Ryan Rickelton and Reeza Hendricks to open the innings for South Africa. Arshdeep Singh will get proceedings underway with the ball. Let's go...

... The Run Chase ...

Right then, records galore in that thunderous first innings but the game is only half done. South Africa will be eyeing up a few records of their own as the crowd in Johannesburg braces themselves for more heavy hitting. Can South Africa do the impossible? Or will India get the job done with the ball? Find out soon as the run chase is up next.

South Africa knew they were going to be up against it but this is not what they would have expected and simply had no answer for the carnage. Marco Jansen bowled more than decently up top and at the death as well but an early injury to Gerald Coetzee forced Markram's hand and the spinners as well as the inexperienced pacers, went for plenty of runs in the middle overs. There were a couple of dropped chances that cost them dearly but in reality, it was total annihilation.

Everyone knows the ball flies here at the Bullring given the height it is located at above sea level by the Indian batters took that to another level. Abhishek Sharma was the aggressor early on as Sanju Samson also kept hitting the ball sweetly from the other end but once Sharma got out, the duo of Samson and Tilak Varma went completely berserk. They hit a total of 23 sixes, the second-most in a T20I innings as both batters hit their second tons of the series and they were just unbelievably good. Their stand remained unbeaten at 210 runs, the highest for the 2nd wicket in all T20Is.

Talk about a demolition job and the Wanderers has once again witnessed some scintillating batting action as the sixes kept pouring in and India have ended up posting a mammoth total of 283 runs, the highest-ever at this ground in T20Is.

10.50

Pitched up on leg, Varma clears the front leg and checks the lofted shot, chipping it towards mid on.

Tilak Varma seems in agonizing pain at the moment and the physio rushes out to have a look. That was bang on the shoulder joint but hopefully, Varma is fine here. Varma is seen doing a few exercises and the magic spray also comes out from the physio. Varma is back up and good to continue.

Strategic break! This has been a fast and furious start from the Indian openers and the Proteas pacers haven't had much of an answer. Also, the loss of Gerald Coetzee due to an injury could be even worse for the hosts as his overs will have to be filled in by the part-timers. South Africa need wickets whereas India will look to just consolidate. Skipper, Aiden Markram brings himself on to bowl now.

They get a single.

0.11wd

WIDE! That's loose from Marco Jansen to begin with! Hard length on leg, drifts down the leg side for a wide, the 24th one from South Africa in this series.

Done and dusted with the pre-match proceedings and it is now time to get the play underway! The sun is shining and the umpires have taken their places on the field. The players of South Africa are also spreading out on the field as the duo of Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma make their way out to the middle to open the innings for India. Marco Jansen will take the new ball and he is raring to go. Let's play...

Just a few minutes left for the start of this final game but first, the two sets of players walk out to the middle along with the mascots and lineup for their respective national anthems. It will be the national anthem of India first, followed by that of South Africa.

Aiden Markram, the captain of South Africa says that they weren't too sure and were leaning towards batting first. Adds that they haven't been able to output at their best in all three departments but is excited at the opportunity to change that tonight. Mentions that they just have to level the series and were able to level it up from 1-0 down and ultimately it is up to the execution.

Suryakumar Yadav, India's captain, says that he is going to bat first and he will try to implement the same things from the pevious two matches. Adds that the plan is very clear where they put runs on the board and try to defend them. Concludes that these things happen in the short form of cricket and the series is on the line so they as a team have to put in their best efforts. Also informs that they are going in with the same team.

India (Unchanged XI) - Sanju Samson (WK), Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav (C), Hardik Pandya, Rinku Singh, Ramandeep Singh, Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh, Ravi Bishnoi, Varun Chakaravarthy.

South Africa (Unchanged XI) - Ryan Rickelton, Reeza Hendricks, Aiden Markram (C), Tristan Stubbs, Heinrich Klaasen (WK), David Miller, Marco Jansen, Gerald Coetzee, Andile Simelane, Keshav Maharaj, Lutho Sipamla.

TOSS - The flip of the coin lands in favor of Suryakumar Yadav and India will BAT first.

PITCH REPORT - Natalie Germanos is pitchside. She starts by saying that it is a slightly cooler day than normal and mentions that it is the center pitch. Adds that the straight boundary is massive at 56 meters with 62 meters and 66 meters on either side. Shaun Pollock joins her and says that the surface looks really good as it has a thick covering of grass with barely any cracks which means it will carry through nicely. Reckons that once the batters start middling a couple of balls, they could really pile on.

Right then, the series is secured for India but they won't be happy to share it with South Africa, who on the other hand, will be eager to finish off on a high. There's also a forecast for a bit of rain before the start of the game but let's hope that stays away and we get a full game in. Toss and team news in a bit, stay tuned.

South Africa on the other hand, will surely try to get redemption for the World Cup Final loss by at least drawing this series. In the batting department, Tristan Stubbs has been brilliant and even Heinrich Klaasen had a good game last time around after an underwhelming first two games. Aiden Markaram as captain has been good but as a batter, he hasn’t been able to fire with the bat and the only consistent player has been Marco Jansen who will be crucial with both bat and ball in hand.

For India, the year 2024 has been prolific in the shortest format where they became the World Champions by defeating South Africa in the final. They have also won 23 games out of 25 in T20Is this year and will look to make it 24 wins out of 26 come the end of this game. India will likely field the same eleven from the previous game but the spotlight will be on Sanju Samson who has a couple of ducks after a couple of T20 tons and the Indian skipper, Suryakumar Yadav who hasn't got going in this series. On the bowling front, Arshdeep Singh and Varun Chakaravarthy will be key.

Hello, and a very warm welcome to the coverage of the 4th and final T20I between South Africa and India from the Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg. India are leading in the series by 2-1 at the moment and they will look forward to taking the trophy home by winning this match. On the other hand, South Africa would want to win this match to level up the series at 2-2. An exciting game is on the cards.
