Agenda set for the day ahead - India are almost there, though four wickets still stand between them and victory. Dinusha looks completely unbothered by whatever's unfolding at the other end, and his job now is to shepherd the tail through as long as possible. India, for their part, will be desperate to snuff out any hint of a wag before it gets going, and wrap this up without dragging things into the final session. Successful in creating inroads - Sonal Dinusha continued his fine run with the bat, showing once again that knack he has for anchoring an innings and building partnerships. And that is an invaluable currency in this format. Jadeja probed away for India, extracting a couple of half chances here and there. But it took the Indians well over an hour to finally make the breakthrough, with Jadeja removing Dhananjaya de Silva and putting an end to a defiant 95-run stand. Niroshan Dickwella, whether in a rush of blood or simply a lapse of concentration, threw his wicket away, and Sri Lanka slipped from 142/4 to 156/5 as a result, with Dinusha stranded on 65.

Stubborn in defence - The pitch still looked in decent shape, with not too many indentations to speak of, and the first hour was negotiated safely by Sonal Dinusha and Dhananjaya, both rock solid in defence throughout. The Indian bowlers, for their part, kept probing away with disciplined lines and lengths, content to wait for the batters to err rather than force the issue themselves. And every so often, the cracks did show, the odd forced stroke offering a glimpse of the vulnerabilities lurking just around. But the two Sri Lankans just stayed rock solid, showing great temperament.

India will surely be the happier of the two teams. While the partnership between Dhananjaya de Silva and Sonal was going on, it seemed India would have a long day, but with those couple of quick wickets, India are in the driver’s seat again. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, have displayed good resistance, especially through Dinusha, but will have a lot of hard work to do in the post-lunch session, as they are running out of men now.

This is pushed through, shorter and on the off stump. Nuwantha is hurried on the back foot but stabs it down eventually. That will be Lunch on Day 5.

OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! One brings two for India quickly and they smell blood now. Digs it in short, veering down leg. Dickwella is caught off guard, still adjusting his feet as the ball arrives towards him. He backs away toward the leg side, badly misjudging the length, and by the time he realises how close it actually is, there's no room left to free his arms to access the off side. As a result, the outside edge carries all the way through to the keeper as Pant takes a regulation catch. Krishna has dismissed Dickwella both times in this Test. Sri Lanka slip from 142/4 to 156/6, needing another 216 runs.

OUT! RELIEF FOR INDIA! The bowling change works like a charm for India. Dhananjaya de Silva was caught at slip yesterday off Jadeja’s bowling, but the celebrations were cut short as he had overstepped. This time, though, Jadeja has his foot well behind the line. At 89.6 kph, full and just outside off. Dhananjaya de Silva goes for the paddle sweep but the ball seemingly pops up a bit, and he can only find a top edge. As a result, the ball bobbles straight up and Manav Suthar at short fine leg gets underneath it and completes a routine catch. Sri Lanka are 142/5 as the captain falls. They need 230 more runs to win.

PITCH REPORT - Russel Arnold is down near the pitch. Informs that it is a steamy morning in Galle, so the weather will be something to keep an eye on throughout the day. Mentions that the covers were taken off only a short while ago, and he believes that this is a very different-looking Day 5 Galle surface than usual. Shares that normally, the rough patches start to appear around the full-length areas on either end of the pitch, but here, there are plenty of indentations around a good length, right in line with the stumps. That makes it particularly tricky for the batters, as the ball can behave unpredictably and leave them constantly guessing.

WEATHER - Bright and sunny is what we are hearing about the overhead conditions in Galle, for now. The radar, though, tells a slightly different story, with rain predicted at some point today. Weather here is really unpredictable. One moment it's clear, and in the next ten minutes, you might even see the heavens open up. Let's hope that we get an uninterrupted day of cricket.

Resistance in mind - Sri Lanka have done well, but only in patches, and are yet to put together a complete team performance across this Test. Chasing a mammoth total, they were reduced to 47/4 on a pitch that hasn't exactly turned into a minefield but is certainly wearing down progressively. Captain Dhananjaya de Silva and Sonal Dinusha, though, have formed a resilient stand to steady things for now. But with precious little batting left after this pair, and conditions only expected to get tougher from here, the hosts know this partnership needs to bat deep into the day if they are to save this Test. And for that, surviving the first session without much damage will be a really big challenge for the hosts. With crucial WTC points up for grabs, India, who are fifth on the table currently, will aim to get the job done without any hiccups. Stay tuned as the first ball of the final day isn't far away.

On the victory path - India made the toss count in a big way, cashing in to post 462 on a pitch that's only grown harder to bat on with each passing innings, with scores dropping off in descending order. Come the second innings, India found themselves in a spot of bother at 111/4, before Rishabh Pant stood tall. His adventurous half-century kept the visitors firmly on top. Along the way, he became the fastest batter to reach the landmark of 100 Test sixes. That batting effort has been backed up by an all-round bowling performance too, as Manav Suthar is calling the shots with six wickets and counting in this match.

Let's hear from India's rising spinner - Manav Suthar says it feels good to be playing Test cricket, something every cricketer dreams of. Feels that getting a wicket with the first ball in the first innings helped him settle in. Shares that he practices spot bowling to find his rhythm leading up to games. Speaks about learning from senior spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav. Feels there was more turn in the second innings and expects the surface could offer more tomorrow. Feels getting the lengths right at the start of the day tomorrow and adapting to the conditions will be crucial.

Wickets galore - There was a lot of action on Day 4, as we had as many as 14 wickets fall in the day that was also marred by some rain. At the end of it all, India are the front runners for the win. Rishabh Pant was probably the best batter on Day 4, playing some eye-catching and attacking cricket, with Devdutt Padikkal also contributing to India's cause with the bat.

Has that carried? Dhruv Jurel is claiming the catch. Only one angle is available for the catch, and after zooming in, the third umpire eventually concludes that Jurel has his fingers underneath the ball.

DRAMA! Ravindra Jadeja has found the edge, and it is taken as well at slip, only for him to turn back and realise that he has overstepped. A massive reprieve for the Sri Lankan skipper. Sonal Dinusha, who is the next man in, had put his helmet on and was about to walk out. This straightens off the deck, on a good length. It is angled in at the stumps and Dhananjaya has to play it. He presents a straight bat, but the ball turns away enough to catch the outside edge, and it is snaffled by KL Rahul to his left, but it all goes in vain.

DRINKS BREAK! It's been all India so far in this final session on Day 4. Mohammed Siraj and Manav Suthar did well to get early wickets, and now Prasidh Krishna is in the middle of a sublime spell. Sri Lanka have yet again been let down by their top order, but Lahiru Udara is still fighting it out there. A lot depends on him and skipper Dhananjaya de Silva as they look to take the game deep for the hosts. India would love at least 2-3 more wickets before the end of play today, and there's pelntt of time left to do that.

Fuller and drifting into the pads. Dhananjaya stays rooted to the crease and flicks it a bit uppishly but between mid-wicket and mid on for a single.

Beaten. Krishna pushes the length up, outside off and draws the batter towards the ball. De Silva presses forward but is better off leaving this alone. Looks to play the line of the ball but is beaten past the outside edge.

The ball nips back to go past the inside edge and thuds into the front pad. There is no bat involved but the Ball Tracking has the ball clipping the leg outer half of the leg stump. Closer than it looked initially, but the on-field decision is upheld. India keep their review, though.

Punches it firmly towards extra cover, where Yashasvi Jaiswal gets low but the ball bounces awkwardly for him. It goes behind but Jaiswal recovers well and keeps the batters down to a single.

Excellent start from Prasidh, a wicket-maiden. Good-length delivery, just outside off, sliding straight on. Dhananjaya de Silva gets his hands tucked behind to let it pass, but the ball just flicks the flap of the back pad.

That's very loose from the Lankan skipper. Short of a good length, wide outside off and angling further away. Dhananjaya de Silva gets stuck on the back foot and plays at it away from his body, nearly edging it behind.

OUT! EDGED AND GONE! Another one bites the dust, and Sri Lanka are in deep trouble after just 10.4 overs. Prasidh Krishna stays around the wicket, bowls it at over 140 clicks and back of a length, in the channel. This one moves away and Kamindu Mendis has a go at the cut shot. He ends up edging it towards first slip, where KL Rahul squats down and takes a sharp catch. Sri Lanka are 21/3 now, in a chase of 372.

There's an appeal for caught behind now, but it is turned down. Mohammed Siraj is very hopeful as usual, but he gets some support from behind the stumps, and the review is taken. Coming to the delivery, Siraj goes wider of the crease and slants the ball back in off a good length. Lahiru Udara hangs back to defend, but the ball beats the inside edge and seems to have brushed the back pad on its way to the keeper. The third umpire confirms with UltraEdge that there's no bat involved and there's no need for Ball Tracking as it is too high, so it can't be LBW. It stays NOT OUT, and India burn a review here.

Kamindu Mendis makes his way out to bat. So, we now have a left-hand, right-hand combination out in the middle.

OUT! LBW! India successfully overturn the on-field decision. A huge, huge appeal, and Manav Suthar is literally begging the umpire to give it out, but he doesn't get the decision in his favour. This time Shubman Gill does review it after a bit of deliberation. Excellent length from Suthar, landing it on middle and the ball slides on with the arm. It is a nervy attempt at the block from Pasindu Sooriyabandara, but he misses and gets hit on the back leg. There's nothing on UltraEdge and Ball Tracking shows that the ball held its line, and it's three reds. A golden duck for the concussion sub.

On a length and around middle, Udara hops back and wrists it through mid-wicket for a single. Hang on, there's a run-out check. The replays roll in and show that there is a direct hit at the keeper's end, but Pasindu Sooriyabandara is well in. A bit casual from him, though, not dragging the bat in and just jogging over the line.

Sri Lanka lose their first wicket. In walks Pasindu Sooriyabandara, the concussion substitute, who is making his Test debut. Sooriyabandara comes in with an impressive first-class record, having scored 23 fifties and 14 hundreds, with a highest score of 242. In case you missed it, Dinesh Chandimal has been ruled out of the Test with a concussion. While trying to stop a boundary in India's second innings, he rolled over onto his head and appeared to have jarred his neck in the process.

OUT! CAUGHT! Prasidh Krishna nearly misjudged it, but he manages to hold on. A surprise short ball from Mohammed Siraj, directed right at the batter's face. Nishan Fernando is taken aback but goes after it and goes for the hook, mistiming it down to long leg. Krishna comes in a bit but then stops, eventually taking it low in front of him. Good catch given the swirling wind, and once again the opening partnership for Sri Lanka doesn't work out. 359 more needed for the win.

The fielders from mid-wicket and mid on converge, but it is Lahiru Kumara from mid on who keeps his eyes on the ball and pouches it safely. He charges across to his left and puts in a full-length dive to grab it. He keeps hold of the ball even after his elbows hit the turf. India are 179/7 with a lead of 357 runs.

On a back of a length, on off. Suthar stands side on before cutting it to deep point for a single.

Dishes out the bumper, over middle. Suthar rolls his wrists over the ball and pulls it to square leg.

Dropped slow and short on off, Manav Suthar hops onto the back foot and swats the pull to deep mid-wicket for a run.

Flatter now, sliding it in towards the pads. Suthar blocks it to the off side.

Floated up on the pads, Jadeja goes down to sweep but gets a top edge towards the vacant square leg region and picks up a single.

With the fall of Rishabh Pant, the umpires have taken the DRINKS BREAK. 58 runs have been scored in 11.3 overs bowled so far in the session, taking India's lead to 352. The short-ball ploy eventually accounted for Rishabh Pant, but it came at a cost, with Sri Lanka leaking runs in the process. The score is already in that daunting territory, and batting in the fourth innings is always challenging in Galle. India might want to put Sri Lanka into bat, perhaps for a passage of 20 minutes before the Tea break. Let's see how they go about it.

OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Lahiru Kumara's persistence pays off, and boy, he is delighted. Kumara digs it in short at around 141 kph and right at the batter. Rishabh Pant continues to move inside the line, looking to hook more than pull and doesn't get much bat on this one. The ball lobs up over the keeper's head, but Niroshan Dickwella does well to turn back and run after the ball, pouching it nicely. Pant departs after doing plenty of damage, and India are now 174/6.

Banged in short and outside off, Jadeja leans back and moves to the off side, forcing the pull to a deepish square leg for a single.

Full and flat at the stumps, Pant plays the reverse sweep fine but the fielder at short third makes a good stop.

Short ball on leg, Pant stylishly works it off the back foot and wide of deep square leg for a couple of runs. The 50-run stand is up between these two as well.

Oh, that's really lucky for Pant. Hard length in the channel, Pant is expecting a short ball and is taken aback by the length, and ends up having a late jab at it. The ball takes the outer edge and lobs up over the scampering short third fielder's head. A single is taken, and Lahiru Kumara punches the turf in frustration.

FOUR! Brave shot from Pant after what happened on the previous delivery. Another bouncer, over middle and leg, Pant moves inside the line and hoicks it down to fine leg for a boundary.

The ball grazed the back of the helmet before going away. As a result, the physio has come out for the concussion check. After a bit of massage on the right shoulder and neck, Pant is good to go.

The umpire has called it a dead ball, but it is in regard to a check on the batter - the ball itself will be deemed legal. A well-directed bumper, bowled with a cross-seam, and right at the front shoulder. Rishabh Pant takes evasive action, and the ball hits Pant right on the collarbone and rolls down to fine leg. No run is given, but Pant is feeling the pain.

Good response by Kumara. Dug in short, over middle. Pant arches back and drops his wrists. Ends up falling on his back as he loses his balance.

SIX! Clears the fielder, and with that, Rishabh Pant reaches his FIFTY. Kumara digs it on a hard length, on off and middle. Pant gets inside the line of the ball and uses the angle to shovel it over long leg. Keshara Nuwantha is a few yards in off the ropes there, and he leaps, but the ball sails over his head. 100 sixes in Test cricket for Pant. He becomes the fastest to reach the landmark, getting there in just 89 innings. Only three other batters have reached 100 sixes in Test cricket - Adam Gilchrist, Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum.

DROPPED! A tough one, but that will go down as a chance. Bowled by going wide on the crease on the around-the-wicket angle. On a length, outside off. Pant hangs back to a ball he was better off being forward to. It straightens enough to catch the outside edge. De Silva's body weight was on his left leg, and he has to make a late adjustment. He flings himself to his right and sticks out the hand but it clips his wrist and goes behind for a single.

FOUR! Nicely done. Looped up, drifting in, on off. Pant reaches out in front and gets his hands through the line of the ball. Plays the sweep well wide to the right of deep square leg for a boundary.

This seemed like the arm ball, on middle. Pant blocks it off.

Risky single attempted and Jadeja was gone had the throw hit. Pitched up, on middle. Jadeja pushes it wide of mid on and hurries to the other end. He runs around Pant to avoid bumping into his partner. As a result, he has to cover more distance. Lahiru Kumara moves to his right and has a shy at the bowling end but misses. It goes towards deep fine leg, and the batters take the second run. Even if the throw had gone at the batting end, Pant would have been out with a direct hit. India now lead by 300.

OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Sri Lanka get the review right. Dhruv Jurel has been strangled down leg. Angled in at the hips, Jurel swivels for the pull, but the ball is not that short. It sneaks under the blade and brushes something on its way to the keeper, who gets low to take the catch to his left. A confident shout, but it is turned down and Dhananjaya de Silva goes upstairs. The replays indicate that it may have grazed the thigh pad. Well, well, the UltraEdge shows a spike when the ball is next to the bat, but on the side-on angle, there does seem to be a gap between the bat and the pad. Harsha Bhogle informs that the umpires have been told that if the spike falls within one frame before or one frame after, it is considered an acceptable margin. The on-field decision is therefore overturned. India are 120/5, leading by 298 runs.

Across off, on a short of a length. Pant taps it wide of point and gets to the other end.

Need to stay positive - Sri Lanka know that the only way they can have a chance with the bat is if they wrap up the Indian innings quickly. Prabath Jayasuriya has yet again been the pick of the bowlers, asking a lot of questions of the Indian batters, but he needs a bit more support. Keshara Nuwantha has toiled hard and he did get a wicket late in the session, which will do a lot of good for his confidence. The upcoming session is going to be highly crucial for both teams, and could turn out to be a decisive one as well. The post-Lunch session is scheduled to start at 7.12 am GMT (12.42 pm IST). Brisk start for India - Despite losing Yashasvi Jaiswal in the very first over, KL Rahul and Devdutt Padikkal stayed positive. The duo put on 65 runs before Rahul went for a big shot and held out in the deep. Padikkal looked really good again but couldn't convert as the skipper, Shubman Gill, got out for a low score, just like in the first innings. Rishabh Pant has looked positive as well, but with 4 wickets lost, India might look to accelerate early and try to push the lead beyond the 350-run mark after Lunch.

6.33 am GMT (12.03 pm IST) - LUNCH, DAY 4 - End of an engrossing first session on Day 4. India's lead is now stretched to 294 runs, but Sri Lanka have really done well in the second half of the session, wrestling back some much-needed momentum. The first hour and fifteen minutes did belong to the visitors, as they were 59/1. However, after the Drinks break, the Lankan spinners came back strongly and picked up 3 wickets in the second half.

Was there an edge? No real conviction in the appeal, and by the time Dhananjaya de Silva can make up his mind, the timer runs out. Jayasuriya keeps it full, on off. Jurel presses half-forward to defend, but the ball drops on him before it rips past the outside edge. There was a noise, but it seemed to have been from the bat clipping the front pad. That will be Lunch on Day 4 with India leading by 294 runs.

OUT! LBW! A confident shout and after giving it a thought, Ahsan Raza raises the finger. Devdutt Padikkal walks over to his partner and takes the review. Darted in from around the wicket, on a good length, on middle and leg. Padikkal presses back to clip it away, but the ball does not go on with the arm. It straightens to go past the bat and hits Padikkal on the back pad. The ball does not have much distance to travel, and the Ball Tracking has the ball crashing into the middle and leg stump. The centurion from the first innings falls. India lose their 4th wicket with a lead of 289 runs.

Not all that short, turning away, on off. Pant uses the depth of the crease to pull it through mid-wicket for a single.

Serves the bumper, on middle. Padikkal ducks. It looked a bit too high but the umpire seemed happy with the height.

A slight halt as the ball seems to have been lost. Also, the on-air commentators inform that Dinesh Chandimal has been taken to the hospital for scans. Very unfortunate news, but let's hope that the results are fine.

SIX! Pace back on, and Rishabh Pant welcomes Lahiru Kumara with a biggie. Seam-up ball, on a good length, going away from the over-the-wicket angle. Pant puts on the dancing shoes and extends his hands into the lofted hit. Slams it over wide long off for half a dozen.

Lucky escape for Pant. That took off from nowhere. Not all that short, a hint of turn but it rears up off the surface. Pant shapes up to work it away on the leg side with a closed bat face. The ball pops up off the shoulder of the blade but it sails over the head of the gully fielder before he can leap. Single taken as the ball goes away.

FOUR! Innovative and effective. Pushed through, on a good length, on middle. Pant brings out the reverse and although he does not quite get it from the middle and is slightly off balance, he gets it away past backward point. India go past 100, and the lead is now 280.

Seemed pretty adjacent, and probably only the height factor can save Gill here. Prabath Jayasuriya flights the ball up on off and middle, Shubman Gill sits down and tries to drag the sweep across to the leg side but misses. The ball hits him on the back thigh pad and around the mid riff. The third umpire has a look at it, and there's nothing on UltraEdge. Ball Tracking shows three reds, and Jayasuriya strikes big. India are 81/3, leading by 259 runs.
