Commentary
We are back for the chase! The players are already out in the middle now. Amy Hunter and Gaby Lewis are the two openers for Ireland Women. Hayley Matthews will start proceedings with her off-breaks. Here we go...
…THE RUN CHASE…
Intriguing chase awaits - Chasing 129, Ireland Women will aim to bat sensibly and finish their tournament on a high. Can they pull off an upset, or will the West Indies bowlers defend this total? Stay tuned for the second essay.
A quick word - Ireland Women's Jane Maguire says that they stuck to their plans. Adds that hopefully the girls can get a good start and chase it down. Mentions that the pitch is a bit low and up and down. Shares that they were disappointed with not getting over the line against New Zealand, but she believes that if they stick to the plans, they can win here. Says that she was disappointed about missing out on the World Cup squad initially, but is very happy to be playing here, and it was special to get the wicket of Dottin.
Chokehold with the ball - For Ireland Women, it was a collective effort with every bowler contributing. Aimee Maguire and Cara Murray stood out with two wickets apiece, while Orla Prendergast, Jane Maguire, and Arlene Kelly also chipped in with a wicket each to keep the pressure on throughout the innings.
Ireland keep West Indies in check - Ireland Women produced an impressive bowling display to restrict West Indies Women to a below-par 128/7. Batting first, the West Indies innings never quite found momentum, as the experienced trio of Hayley Matthews, Stafanie Taylor, and Deandra Dottin all spent time at the crease but struggled to find their timing. Chinelle Henry once again provided late resistance with a brisk unbeaten 27, helping push the total close to the 130-run mark.

Just a leg bye to end the innings! Orla Prendergast goes fuller and angling into leg, Chinelle Henry gets low and tries to heave it away but misses as the ball goes off her pads towards point. They cross, but Henry is frustated of not making the most of the Free Hit. West Indies Women finish on 128/7!
Tries the bouncer again, on middle, Chinelle Henry looks to pull it away but misses. She is looking at the umpire and gets the No Ball call for this being the second short bouncer of the over. However, the on-field call has sent this upstairs. The third umpire sees the replay and confirms that it is a No Ball. Free Hit to follow.
Good length and angling in, Aaliyah Alleyne heaves it through mid-wicket for one.
FOUR! Put away! Short of a length and well outside off. Aaliyah Alleyne gets the chance to free her arms and crunches it over point for a boundary. These are crucial runs for the Windies.
Ireland Women continue to get the wickets. Aaliyah Alleyne comes in at number 9.
OUT! TAKEN IN THE DEEP! Orla Prendergast gets among the wickets. She bangs in a well-directed bouncer, just around off, takes off a bit. Jannillea Glasgow hops up and looks to swat it away with her bat above her head but gets no control on the shot. It flies towards sweeper cover, where Aimee Maguire moves a bit to her right and pouches it safely. West Indies Women are 121/7 now.
Orla Prendergast responds with a fine yorker, on middle, Chinelle Henry just about gets her bat down to dig it out as the ball rolls to the leg side. They cross.

Commentary
From Bristol to London - Right then, that wraps up a memorable contest where Ireland Women scripted history with a famous victory over West Indies Women. But the drama is far from over! Up next is another blockbuster as England Women take on New Zealand Women in a match that will decide the final semi-final spot. A win for the White Ferns sends them through, while an England victory will see West Indies sneak into the last four. The toss is done and New Zealand have elected to BAT first. Simply switch tabs and join us for all the action. Until then, cheers!
The victorious skipper of Ireland Women - Gaby Lewis is absolutely delighted with the victory and says she is incredibly proud of the team for bouncing back after some heavy defeats earlier in the tournament. She always believed the target was within reach, given the quality in Ireland's batting line-up, and is pleased the players backed themselves to play positive cricket. She adds that while the tournament has brought its share of setbacks, there have also been plenty of encouraging performances. She credits the team's unity and resilience for helping them stay together through the tough moments and says that spirit made the historic victory even more special.
The captain of West Indies Women - Hayley Matthews feels West Indies let the game slip with the bat, saying they made a decent start in the Powerplay but failed to keep the scoreboard moving and were forced to play catch-up after not taking on the bowlers early in their spells. She also admits there were lapses in execution with the ball and a few costly mistakes in the field. She acknowledges that neither she nor Deandra Dottin have been at their best with the bat and says the senior players need to take greater responsibility. She points out that, unlike Orla Prendergast for Ireland, none of the West Indies batters went on to play a substantial innings. Despite the disappointment, she says the team will embrace the opportunity if they make the semi-finals, adding that they need to channel the pain of this defeat into producing better performances. She also hopes Chinelle Henry recovers in time, praising her resilience despite regularly battling injuries.
Time to hear from the two captains now...
Windies pay the price - West Indies needed something special to defend their modest total, and Ashmini Munisar gave them the perfect start with an early breakthrough. However, they failed to build on it as their bowlers repeatedly dropped too short, allowing the Irish batters to score freely. Afy Fletcher and Hayley Matthews struck in the middle overs, but the damage had already been done. The shock defeat not only handed Ireland a famous victory but also left West Indies' semi-final hopes hanging by a thread, with qualification no longer in their own hands.
A quick chat - Ireland Women's Amy Hunter says the victory is an unbelievable feeling, admitting Ireland have been building towards this moment for a while and are delighted to finally register their first-ever T20 World Cup win. She heaps praise on Orla Prendergast, calling her outstanding and revealing her main aim during their partnership was to keep Orla on strike as much as possible. She admits there were a few nerves after Prendergast's dismissal but credits the middle order for holding their composure and getting the team over the line. She also highlights the resilience this Irish side has shown through difficult moments and believes it is something they can continue to build on. She thanks the travelling Irish supporters for their incredible backing and is thrilled the team could reward them with a historic win. She adds that the message during the chase was to build partnerships, something Ireland had spoken about throughout the tournament and executed perfectly today. She also praises skipper Gaby Lewis for leading from the front throughout the competition and says she deserves immense credit for her leadership.
Irish bowlers rise to the occasion - Earlier in the game, Ireland Women produced a spirited bowling performance to restrict West Indies Women to a below-par total. Cara Murray and Aimee Maguire led the way with two wickets apiece, while every other bowler chipped in with one to ensure the pressure never eased. The experienced trio of Hayley Matthews, Stafanie Taylor and Deandra Dottin all got starts but struggled to shift gears, as Ireland's disciplined attack kept them in check throughout. Chinelle Henry's unbeaten 27 off 21 provided a late boost, dragging West Indies close to the 130-run mark and giving their bowlers something to defend.
PLAYER OF THE MATCH - Undoubtedly, Orla Prendergast wins the award for her match-winning 63 off 44 and 1/29 with the ball as well. She says the victory means a great deal to the team. She adds that they had belief throughout the tournament and are pleased to finally cross the finish line. She notes that they approached the chase with a different tempo and that the changing conditions also played a key role in their win. Orla explains that the focus was on building a strong partnership and putting the team in a good position. Prendergast also feels it was probably their best all-round performance in terms of bowling and fielding. She ended by thanking the fans for their constant support, calling them the team’s '12th man' throughout the competition.
A chase to remember - Despite losing skipper Gaby Lewis early, Ireland Women refused to panic as Amy Hunter and Orla Prendergast stitched together a match-defining 62-run partnership after a steady 37/1 Powerplay. Hunter laid the platform before Prendergast took centre stage, smashing a brilliant 63 off 44 to put Ireland within touching distance of history. Although her dismissal sparked a few late nerves, Rebecca Stokell kept her cool with an unbeaten 16 off 15 to steer Ireland home and seal their first-ever T20 World Cup victory.
Ireland shake up the semi-final race - Yesterday, Ireland Men's team created history by defeating India for the first time ever in international cricket. Just a day later, Ireland Women delivered another memorable moment, pulling off a stunning victory over West Indies Women. The win is even more special as it marks Ireland Women's first-ever triumph in T20 World Cup history. In the process, they not only beat the West Indies but also knocked them out of control of their own semi-final fate. The Caribbean side must now anxiously wait and hope England Women defeat New Zealand Women to keep their semi-final hopes alive.

Afy Fletcher floats it up, full and around leg, Orla looks to paddle it away, but misses and Shemaine Campbelle takes a sharp catch behind the stumps. UltraEdg shows a flatline when the ball passes the bat and confirms that it brushed the pads instead. The on-field call of Out is overturned.

All in readiness now for one final time here in Bristol in this World Cup. We can see the Ireland Women players in a huddle before they spread out take on the field. Qiana Joseph and Hayley Matthews are the two openers for West Indies Women. Some spin to start as Aimee Maguire has the new ball in her hand. Let's play...
We are moments away from the start of the game, but before that the gaint flags of the two nations unfurl in the middle of the ground. The players from both sides line up up for their respective national anthems. It will be Ireland's first, followed by the anthem of the West Indies.
Time to hear from the Irish camp - Orla Prendergast says the team is simply looking to enjoy the occasion while continuing the hunt for their first win of the tournament. Despite the results not going their way so far, she believes there is plenty of confidence within the group and hopes this will finally be the day they get over the line. Reflecting on Ireland's victory over the West Indies before the tournament, she says it gives the side huge belief, having secured their first-ever win against them. She adds that the team have produced good performances in different phases throughout the World Cup but has not yet put together a complete display with the bat, ball and in the field. She hopes everything clicks in this game. On her strong record against the West Indies, she says it all comes down to confidence. While maintaining belief during a difficult tournament is never easy, she feels the squad has done a good job of that and remains convinced they can come away with a positive result. She also thanks the Irish fans for their incredible support, saying the team goes into the match full of energy and confidence and truly appreciates everyone backing them.
A quick chat - West Indies Women's Afy Fletcher says that they are all in a good space. Adds that they are ready for this game and want to be in a positive state of mind. Mentions that the defeat to Ireland Women is in the past and they need to focus on the present and execute your skills. Says that you have to bank on your experience and she just tries to keep things simple and backs her skills.
PITCH REPORT - Ian Bishop is pitchside. He points out that the wind could play a significant role, with one side of the ground having a much bigger boundary. Adds the square boundaries are 59 and 62 meters while the straight hit is 70 meters. He says batters will need to be mindful when targeting that side of the field. Carlos Brathwaite joins him and says the pitch used here is the same one that hosted the West Indies-Sri Lanka game, where the surface was a little slow and produced some uneven bounce. He notes that while the wicket has a similar covering of grass, it has a much browner appearance. With the floodlights on and some overhead cloud cover, he expects the surface to hold together for longer than a typical dry pitch and does not anticipate it changing much over the course of the 40 overs. He adds that Ireland's decision to bowl first after winning the toss is understandable, as the pitch looks like an excellent batting surface and the West Indies will be aiming to put a big total on the board.
The captain of West Indies Women - Hayley Matthews says the surface looks a little slow and won't be easy for batting, making run-scoring a challenge. She acknowledges that England was always going be a tough opponent and adds that her side needs to improve in a few areas. Matthews is pleased that their fate remains in their own hands. She also confirms one change to the playing XI, with Qiana Joseph replacing Karishma Ramharack.
The skipper of Ireland Women - Gaby Lewis says the surface looks like a good batting wicket and believes chasing will be the better option. Reflecting on their narrow defeat to New Zealand, Lewis says the team has taken plenty of positives from that performance. Lewis also points to their victory over the West Indies in the tri-series and hopes they can produce a similar display today. Ireland have made one change to their XI, with Jane Maguire replacing Lara McBride.
West Indies Women (Playing XI) - Hayley Matthews (C), Qiana Joseph (In place of Karishma Ramharack), Shemaine Campbelle (WK), Stafanie Taylor, Deandra Dottin, Chinelle Henry, Jahzara Claxton, Jannillea Glasgow, Aaliyah Alleyne, Afy Fletcher, Ashmini Munisar.
Ireland Women (Playing XI) - Amy Hunter (WK), Gaby Lewis (C), Orla Prendergast, Rebecca Stokell, Leah Paul, Alice Tector, Louise Little, Arlene Kelly, Aimee Maguire, Jane Maguire (In place of Lara McBride), Cara Murray.
TOSS - It's time for the coin flip here in Bristol. Both the captains are out in the middle now. Hayley Matthews gives it a flick and it lands in favour of Gaby Lewis. Ireland Women elect to BOWL first.
Earlier in the day - Pakistan Women signed off their ICC Women's T20 World Cup campaign with a convincing victory over Netherlands Women. Batting first, they posted 126/6, thanks largely to a composed unbeaten 63 off 42 balls from Gull Feroza. The Dutch looked well in the chase at 76/3, but a dramatic collapse saw them lose their final seven wickets for just 13 runs to be bowled out for 89. Fatima Sana and Ayesha Zafar starred with the ball, claiming three wickets each to wrap up an emphatic 37-run win.
Nothing to lose - Ireland Women may already be out of the semi-final race, but they have won plenty of admirers with the fearless brand of cricket they have played. Gaby Lewis has led from the front, while Orla Prendergast, Aimee Maguire and Arlene Kelly have all produced important performances during the campaign. They have pushed some of the tournament's strongest teams all the way and will be eager to sign off with the biggest win of their World Cup. Stay tuned for toss and other updates.
One win away - It is a simple equation for the West Indies - win and they are through to the semi-finals. Hayley Matthews has once again led from the front with both bat and ball, while the experienced duo of Shemaine Campbelle and Stafanie Taylor have played key roles in crucial moments. Their bowling attack has also delivered when it has mattered most, and they now have one final hurdle to clear to book a place in the last four.
Welcome to Bristol - Hello and welcome to Match 27 of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup as West Indies Women take on Ireland Women at the County Ground in Bristol. The tournament is entering its business end and there is still plenty to play for, making this a crucial Group B encounter.
... MATCH DAY ...
Destiny in their own hands - The ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 heads to Bristol for a crucial Group B clash between West Indies Women and Ireland Women, with vastly different objectives driving the two sides. After four matches, West Indies find themselves on the brink of the semi-finals, knowing that victory here will secure their place in the last four regardless of other results. A defeat, however, would leave the door open for both Sri Lanka and New Zealand, turning the final round of group fixtures into a nervous wait. Ireland may already be out of contention, but they have shown throughout the tournament that they are far more competitive than their record suggests, and they would relish the opportunity to end their campaign by spoiling the Caribbean party. The Windies way - West Indies Women have been one of the stories of the tournament so far. They have played with trademark Caribbean flair, combining explosive batting with disciplined bowling to register impressive victories over New Zealand, Scotland and Sri Lanka. Their winning streak was halted by hosts England in their last outing, but there was little shame in losing to a side that has looked among the strongest teams in the competition. Much of their success has revolved around captain Hayley Matthews, who has once again demonstrated why she is one of the premier all-rounders in world cricket. Matthews enters this match with 93 runs and 8 wickets, but will want to do more with the bat. Deandra Dottin is yet to fire, but if she finds her groove, it will put fear into the rest of the sides. Shemaine Campbelle has rolled back the years with 150 runs at an average of 50, providing stability in the middle order, while Chinelle Henry's firepower was displayed in the last game, with a quick-fire fifty. The challenge now is ensuring they do not let the pressure of qualification distract them from the cricket that has brought them this far. Wickets at key moments - While the batting often grabs the headlines, West Indies' progress has been built on a disciplined bowling unit as well. Aaliyah Alleyne has been outstanding throughout the tournament, picking up eight wickets and consistently striking at key moments. Afy Fletcher has maintained an economy rate below seven runs per over while also chipping in with important breakthroughs, while Karishma Ramharack and Ashmini Munisar have also chipped in. Together, they have repeatedly found ways to pull momentum back in the West Indies' favour, helping explain why they have spent most of the tournament in the top two positions in the group. A campaign full of positives - Ireland Women may be winless after four matches, but that barely tells the full story of their campaign. They pushed New Zealand to the limit before falling agonisingly short by just four runs, and then gave England a genuine scare despite defending a modest total. They also battled hard against Scotland and Sri Lanka in contests that were far more competitive than the standings might suggest. The frustration for Ireland will be that they have often been just one partnership or one breakthrough away from turning those performances into victories. Yet there is also encouragement in the fact that they have repeatedly shown they can compete with more established teams on the biggest stage. A first win may have eluded them, but their performances suggest they are moving in the right direction. Carrying the fight - While the results have not gone Ireland's way, several players have emerged from the tournament with plenty of credit. Captain Gaby Lewis has once again led from the front, scoring 128 runs and providing aggressive starts at the top of the order. Orla Prendergast has underlined her value as one of Ireland's most important all-rounders, contributing 118 runs and five wickets across the campaign. With the ball, Aimee Maguire has been one of Ireland's standout performers, claiming four wickets and repeatedly creating opportunities through the middle overs. Cara Murray and Arlene Kelly have also impressed with their respective skill sets. Even in defeat, Ireland have repeatedly found players willing to step up, which is one of the reasons their campaign has been far more competitive than the standings suggest. Dangerous with freedom - One factor the West Indies will be wary of is the freedom with which Ireland can play. With elimination already confirmed, Ireland have no qualification scenarios to worry about and can simply focus on producing their best cricket. Teams in that position often become dangerous opponents, particularly when they have spent much of the tournament proving they belong at this level. Ireland have already shown they can push stronger sides deep into games, and they will be eager to finally get the result their performances have often deserved. Reading the conditions - Bristol has traditionally offered good value for stroke-makers, but it has also rewarded bowlers who are prepared to vary their pace and hit consistent areas. Both sides possess quality spin options capable of exploiting any assistance available, while disciplined bowling in the Powerplay could go a long way towards shaping the outcome. Given what is at stake, expect both teams to place a premium on winning the key moments rather than simply attacking from the outset. Team form (Last 5 completed T20Is, recent first) - WI-W - LWWWL | IRE-W - LLLLW. A final twist in Group B? For the West Indies, the equation is straightforward - win and secure a place in the semi-finals. Anything less could leave them anxiously watching results elsewhere and potentially bring net run rate into the conversation. Ireland, meanwhile, have an opportunity to leave the tournament with heads held high and perhaps a memorable scalp to their name. They have spent much of this World Cup proving they can compete, and now they have the chance to influence the fate of Group B. With one side chasing qualification and the other playing for pride, expect a fiercely contested encounter in Bristol.
