Commentary

Right then, four down and one to go in this series. Australia can no longer win it, but they have a chance to deny India a series victory. India, on the other hand, will be eager to finish the job and tick the box of a series win in Australia. The fifth and final T20I will be played at The Gabba in Brisbane on Saturday, 8th November, with the first ball at 1.45 pm IST (8.15 am GMT). For now, you can switch tabs and catch the action from the 2nd ODI in Faisalabad between Pakistan and South Africa. Cheers!

Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav praises his batters, particularly Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma, for setting up the innings with a crucial start. He notes that despite dew affecting the later stages, the bowlers did an absolutely fantastic job, expressing happiness with their performance. Yadav ends on a high note, saying he feels blessed with the bowling options at his disposal and that everyone stepped up when it mattered.

Australia's captain, Mitchell Marsh says the total was probably par on that wicket and feels that they need a couple of partnerships. He acknowledges that India are a world-class team. Shares that in an ideal world, you want to be at full strength in every game. Marsh adds that he understands there’s a big series coming up and he loves giving players opportunities, as the more chances they get in high-pressure situations, the better it is for the team’s growth.

Axar Patel is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his superb all-round effort. He mentions that it was not an easy wicket to bat on. Emphasises his flexibility in batting, adjusting to the team's lineup rather than having a preferred position. Axar concludes that he bowled according to plan, which helped him pick up key wickets.

Time for the presentation ceremony...

Earlier, after being put into bat, India never really got going as Australia kept pegging them back with timely strikes. Shubman Gill held firm, and during his stand with Suryakumar Yadav, there was a sense that at 121/2 in 14 overs, the partnership could click into a gear. However, Gill’s dismissal opened the door for Australia, who continued to pick up wickets at regular intervals. A late flourish from Axar Patel lifted India to 167. Mitchell Marsh was clever with his bowling rotations through the middle phase, and his bowlers responded well. Nathan Ellis was the standout performer, finishing with impressive figures of 3 for 21 from his four overs.

While Varun Chakaravarthy was uncharacteristically a bit short, Axar Patel held his own and went on to dismiss Josh Inglis. That wicket triggered a collapse as the home side lost 8 for 51 from there. Shivam Dube turned out to be the surprise package, removing Mitchell Marsh and Tim David, two batters who had looked particularly dangerous throughout the series. India’s bowlers then tightened their grip, with all six options chipping in with at least a wicket.

Matthew Short got off the blocks quickly and gave Australia a brisk start. He fell inside the Powerplay, and there wasn’t much to separate the two sides at that stage, with Australia 48/1 compared to India’s 49/0. The game was always going to hinge on how the Aussies handled India’s spin trio.  The hosts looked in a decent position at 68/1 in the ninth over, with the required run rate hovering around nine.

An inspiring bowling effort takes India to an unassailable lead in the series. A total of 167 was competitive, but to defend it and win by 48 runs is an outstanding performance from the bowlers. For Australia, it was a tale of batters getting starts but failing to kick on and make them count. There were no partnerships of substance for the Aussies, and they eventually fell well short of the target.

OUT! CAUGHT! Well, that's de-escalated for Australia in a flurry. Tossed up on middle and off, Adam Zampa looks to clear the long on fence but doesn't get enough power behind it to clear Shubman Gill at long on. Gill gets right underneath it and doesn't make any mistake this time around. Australia have been beaten by India in the 4th T20I by 48 runs.

18.11

DROPPED! Sloppy from Gill. Fuller on middle and leg, Nathan Ellis slogs this straight to Shubman Gill at long on. Gill settles himself right underneath it but ends up dropping it.

OUT! BOWLED'EM! Too good for a lower-order batter. Jasprit Bumrah nails a slower yorker into the stumps and Ben Dwarshuis swings way too early. The ball arrives with the bat up in the air and clatters into the base of the middle and leg pole.

OUT! CAUGHT AND BOWLED! That's surely got to be it now. Washington Sundar gets two in two and will be on a hat-trick. Pushed through, around off, Xavier Bartlett fails to read this and looks to flick it towards the mid-wicket region. Gets a leading edge straight back to the bowler. Washington Sundar makes no mistake and holds onto it to his left.

OUT! LBW! Seam up, straight one on middle and off, Marcus Stoinis looks to get cheeky and play the reverse over short third but fails to get bat on ball. The ball sneaks past the bat and hits him around his knee on the back pad. A polite appeal was all the umpire needed to raise his finger. Marcus Stoinis sends this upstairs but it is three reds on the Ball Tracker with the ball crashing into the top of middle. Australia lose Stoinis.

Given LBW! Marcus Stoinis has reviewed it. To be honest, this looks like a review more in hope than anything else. The Ball Tracking comes up as three reds and Stoinis will have to take the long walk back.

Commentary

The stage is set for an exciting chase. Arshdeep Singh is ready to bowl the first over to the opening pair of Matthew Short and Mitchell Marsh. The Aussies will be looking to get off to a strong start and set the tone for the rest of the innings. Let's see how Bumrah and co. plan to counter their batting unit

... The Run Chase ...

The pitch does look a bit tacky, but there are still runs to be had. The Indian spin trio of Varun Chakaravarthy, Axar Patel, and Washington Sundar will be crucial in containing the Aussie batting unit, with the long boundaries and the ball gripping into the surface playing to their advantage. The Aussies have the firepower to chase down the target, but the Indian bowlers have the tools to neutralize their explosive batting unit. It's going to be a thrilling second half. Stay tuned.

The Aussies' disciplined bowling paid off, as they kept the Indians in check despite Zampa and Stoinis conceding runs. The regular fall of wickets helped keep things under control, and the bowlers got the rewards they deserved. Adam Zampa took three wickets, and so did Nathan Ellis, who was the standout performer for his spell of 3 for 21. Marcus Stoinis and Xavier Bartlett chipped in with one wicket each.

The Indian batting order faced a bit of a rough patch after the openers fell, and Dube's promotion to number 3 to counter Zampa's spin didn't quite work out as planned. He lasted just 18 deliveries and was out on 22, leaving fans scratching their heads over his batting position. It seemed like the team's strategy of shuffling players up and down the order had a bit of a negative impact, with players looking a bit uncomfortable in their positions. The skipper was one of the few bright spots, but even with contributions from the rest of the order, none were significant enough to really get the innings going. Gill's 46 was the top score, and it was Axar's late surge that helped India post 167.

With the pitch playing as it has, India's total of 167 seems like a decent score. The opening partnership between Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma laid a decent foundation, with the pair putting on 56 for the first wicket. Gill looked comfortable at the crease, playing the role of anchor, whereas Abhishek had a tough time finding his rhythm.

OUT! IN THE AIR AND TAKEN! That went up many a mile and this is a fine grab from Josh Philippe! More importantly, Australia keep Axar Patel away from strike. On a length, on off and middle. Arshdeep swings across the line but skies it up a long way towards mid-wicket, where Philippe keeps his eyes on the ball, settles under the skier and takes a good catch close to his chest.

The captain of India, Suryakumar Yadav says it’s always important to challenge yourself, and that’s exactly why you play bilateral games. Mentions that the team’s preparation has been good, as they took a day off and had a solid practice session yesterday. He feels the wicket might get a bit slower as the game progresses and admits they would have batted first if given the choice. Suryakumar adds that the surface looks quite similar to Indian conditions and confirms they are going in with the same team.

Australia's captain, Mitchell Marsh says that they don't play a lot here and want to gain as much information as they can. He expresses his team's enthusiasm for the match, saying both teams are pumped and ready to go. Informs that they have 4 changes with Glenn Maxwell, Adam Zampa, Ben Dwarshuis and Josh Philippe being the ones coming into the side.

India (Unchanged Playing XI) - Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav (C), Tilak Varma, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Jitesh Sharma (WK), Shivam Dube, Arshdeep Singh, Varun Chakaravarthy, Jasprit Bumrah.

Australia (Playing XI) - Mitchell Marsh (C), Matthew Short, Josh Inglis (WK), Tim David, Josh Philippe (In for Travis Head), Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell (In for Mitchell Owen), Ben Dwarshuis (In for Sean Abbott), Xavier Bartlett, Nathan Ellis, Adam Zampa (In for Matthew Kuhnemann).

TOSS - Australia have won the toss and they have elected to BOWL first.

PITCH REPORT - Aaron Finch is pitchside and mentions that it’s a warm evening with clear blue skies. He notes that it’s a drop-in surface. Adds that it looks dry and the ball should come on nicely onto the bat. Finch expects it to be a high-scoring game.

The Carrara Stadium will witness an intense battle between two teams looking to take the series lead. With both teams having used the first three matches to test their strategies, the final two games promise to be thrilling. Will the absence of key players cost the Aussies, or will the youngsters rise and shine on the occasion? The stakes are high, and the action is set to be electric. Stay tuned for toss and team news.

India, on the other hand, will be looking to maintain their momentum after levelling the series in the last match. Their bowling coach, Morne Morkel, has given fans a glimmer of hope regarding Nitish Kumar Reddy's fitness. If Reddy returns, he might replace Shivam Dube, who had a tough time in the previous match. With Kuldeep Yadav heading back home to prepare for the upcoming Test series against South Africa, the Indian team might see some changes, but with this squad, nothing is certain. The unexpected is always on the cards.

Earlier, Josh Hazlewood was released, and Australia have now allowed Travis Head and Sean Abbott to return to Sheffield Shield duty as part of their preparation for the upcoming Ashes. They will be looking to field Glenn Maxwell, who has been recovering from a wrist injury. His inclusion, along with Ben Dwarshuis, who returns from a calf injury, could prove crucial in their bid to take an unbeatable lead. Meanwhile, young right-arm quick Mahli Beardman might get his chance to make his international debut, adding a fresh dynamic to the team.

Hello and welcome to the fourth T20I between India and Australia, where the series stands level at 1-1 after a thrilling encounter in the third match. The stage is set for an intense battle as both teams head to the Carrara Stadium in Gold Coast.

... MATCH DAY ...

Fire and ice. Not a bad way to describe what's been happening in this T20I series so far. One minute, Australia are roaring like bushfire through India's top order in Melbourne, the next they're frozen solid watching the Men in Blue dominate in Hobart. Welcome to T20 cricket in 2025, where consistency is a myth and momentum is whatever happened in the last six balls. So here we are - series locked at 1-1 after India's five-wicket victory in Hobart. Now, where does this road take us next? Carrara Oval in Queensland. Now here's something interesting - Carrara became the first ground outside Brisbane to host a first-class game when it staged a match between Queensland and an England XI in 1990-91, famous for David Gower and John Morris's Tiger Moth fly-by. Yes, THAT fly-by. The one where two English cricketers decided mid-match that buzzing the ground in biplanes was a good idea. They were fined £1000 each, but honestly, the story's worth way more than that. The experiment to use Carrara for cricket was dropped in 1992 because it's primarily a football venue, and attendance was poor. But cricket has returned sporadically - mostly Big Bash League games. Let's start with India. Kuldeep Yadav has been released from India's T20I squad, returning to India to prepare for the upcoming Test series against South Africa. Tests again! But that's the reality of modern cricket - you're always preparing for the next format, the next series, the next challenge. With Kuldeep gone, India's spin options narrow down to Varun Chakaravarthy and Axar Patel. Both are capable, but Kuldeep's mystery will be missed. The real talking point for India is their batting approach. Abhishek Sharma can be absolutely explosive and when he gets going, bowlers just pray for rain. Then there's Tilak Varma, calm and composed like he's been doing this for decades. And Suryakumar Yadav... well, the skipper's batting form hasn't exactly lit up this series. Arshdeep Singh is India's highest wicket-taker in T20Is, but often there's no room for him in the XI due to batting depth issues. That eternal Indian selection headache - do we play an extra bowler or strengthen the batting? Flip a coin, both arguments are valid. But when Arshdeep plays, he delivers. His variations at the death are worth their weight in gold, and Australia found that out the hard way in Hobart. Now, the Australians. Big news - Travis Head has left the T20I squad for red-ball Ashes preparation, and will play for South Australia in the Sheffield Shield. The Ashes. Those five letters that make everything else irrelevant in Australian cricket. Head's been in devastating form, so losing him is a blow. Matthew Short, a specialist opener in T20 cricket, is likely to replace Travis Head at the top of the order. Short's not a bad player at all - he's scored runs in domestic cricket and has the game for this level. The silver lining? Glenn Maxwell's return adds a new dimension for India to deal with, after he missed the Hobart T20I due to a wrist injury. When Maxwell's on song, he doesn't just bat, he conjures magic. Reverse sweeps, switch hits, scoops - the man has shots that don't exist in coaching manuals. But he's also capable of getting out for a duck while attempting something outrageous. That's the Maxwell package perfectly summed up and it would be interesting to see which of the two Maxwells we get to witness here. Tim David has been Australia's batting revelation this series. The big Singaporean-turned-Australian has been promoted up the order and is making every run count. His 74 off just 38 in Hobart was pure hitting and just sheer brute force. Then there's Marcus Stoinis, who always seems to turn up against India. Adam Zampa is an outside chance of featuring, as he's currently at home near Byron Bay, as his wife is due to give birth to their second child. If Zampa makes it, great. If not, Australia have Matthew Kuhnemann or Tanveer Sangha as options. Not quite the same impact, but options nonetheless. Kuhnemann is five T20Is old, but is yet to take his maiden wicket, so, he will be under scrutiny as well. As previously announced, left-arm seamer Ben Dwarshuis will come into the mix for the final two matches, to support Ellis and Bartlett, with Sean Abbott released from the squad. Carrara Oval is a wildcard in cricket, truly. The venue has hosted just two T20Is to date - one in 2018 between Australia and South Africa, and another in 2022 against West Indies. That’s it. Two games, split evenly between a loss and a win for Australia. Barely enough to build trends, let alone predict outcomes. Everything else? Educated guesswork drawn from Big Bash fixtures, which, let’s be honest, operate on a different rhythm altogether. A win here guarantees the series won’t be lost, at worst, it’s a draw. A defeat, though, means Brisbane, which is barely 75 kilometres away from here, becomes a must-win to square things up. Brace yourselves for a thriller.
