Commentary

That concludes this game. The action continues in the World Cup. England will take on Afghansitan in the second match of Group 1. Switch and tabs and join us there. Cheers from here.

Kane Williamson, the skipper of New Zealand says it was an outstanding day. Adds Allen and Conway set it up and the bowlers were great. Mentions everybody has their roles, they wanted to get off to a good start and go through the gears and they managed to do that well.

Aaron Finch, the captain of Australia says New Zealand were all over them right from the start and they were outplayed by them. Adds Finn Allen went off to a flier. Shares they were slightly off and the net run rate took the hammering. Reckons they are playing Sri Lanka next and they need to win everything and have some luck on their side

Devon Conway is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH. He says it was a special performance. Applauds the way Allen started the game. Says Allen is young but he is explosive. On his innings, he just tried to time the ball well. Shares that it means a lot to beat Australia in Australia and this win will help to gather momentum.

...Presentation coming up...

For the Kiwis, it is a complete performance. First, with the bat, it was Allen at the top, Conway played throughout and then Neesham added the finishing touch and then the bowlers did their job. Mitchell Santner and Southee were brilliant and the rest continued the good work. A morale boosting win for the Kiwis who have struggled against the Aussies in recent times but here have outplayed them totally.

To be honest, 200 was way too much and on this wicket. It gets even more difficult when you lose your top three in the Powerplay and from there on, Australia just never recovered. They kept losing wickets and in the end, have fallen way, way short of the total.

A thumping win for the Kiwis. Not only do they get the two points but this win will boost their net run rate massively. Still, very early in the tournament but that can always come into contention.

Commentary

We are back. The players are out. David Warner and Aaron Finch are the openers. Trent Boult to start with the ball. Two slips in place.

...THE CHASE...

Now the home side are under pressure. 200 is a massive score and it won't be easy to chase. Australia do have the firepower and the wicket  tends to get better here. New Zealand on the other hand will back their bowling to defend this. Join us for the chase in a bit.

Finn Allen, one of the stars with the bat is up for an interview. He says he was told last night that he will play. Adds they had a plan and to target the first six overs. Reckons they have got a competitive total and the first half job is done well by them.

Australia just were not up to the mark in the first innings! Their bowlers were way too full earlier on in the search of some swing and paid the price. Later on too, they were guilty of bowling a lot of on-pace deliveries and in the slot when the slower balls were the ones which needed to be bowled. All their bowlers were taken to the cleaners. Hazlewood though was the pick but Australia will not be happy with how they have performed with the ball.

That is a strong batting performance from the visitors and they will be really, really pleased with where they stand in the game at the moment! New Zealand played with intent. Right away Allen was on the attack and put the opposition under massive pressure. They got their fifty up in no time thanks to the right handed opener. He fell and Australia did manage to pull things back but Williamson and Devon Conway kept the score board ticking. They added fifty before Williamson fell. Conway though continued. He was the mainstay and the rest batted alongside him. However, it is Neesham's cameo which could be the difference as his knock took them upto 200.

19.52

A run out chance! A better throw was required! On middle, this is hit to long on. Glenn Maxwell there throws it and it's too high for Matthew Wade. He still jumps and has a shy at his end but misses. Two more.

19.43

OUT! TIMBER! That is a massive wicket, Tim Southee gets the best batter of the Australian line-up on his very first delivery. This is on a length and around off, Warner looks to pull but the length was not the right one for that shot. It hits the pads, then takes the inside edge of the bat and then onto the stumps. New Zealand well and truly on top now. The most unluckiest way David Warner would have got out.

Halt in play. Josh Hazlewood pulls out in the last moment as Conway gets distracted by a man walking near the sight screen.

FOUR! Tickled nice and fine! Conway is underway with a boundary too. This is not the start Finch or Australia would have wanted. This is so not Josh Hazlewood! He starts off with one on the pads. It is worked down to fine leg for another boundary. Dealing in boundaries at the moment are the Kiwis.

Who will bowl from the other end? It is Josh Hazlewood. A slip and fine third man in place for Conway.

A dot to end but that is the most expensive first over by an Australian bowler in T20Is. Starc bangs it in, tennis-ball like bounce on this delivery. Allen is through the pull and gets beaten. 14 from the first over. An electrifying start to the game here.

FOUR! Down the ground! Allen is on a mission here. Yet again a delivery in his slot. It is full and on off, Allen slams it down the ground, this time it is as straight as an arrow and it reaches the fence.

0.40

Change of pace! Starc goes full, a slower one though and it is almost a yorker outside off. It is jammed towards mid off.

0.36

SIX! This is even better! Absolutely brilliant. He has treated Starc with disdain here. Fuller again, Starc is not learning, there is no swing but he continues to look for it. In the process, he is bowling slot balls. Allen thumps it over the long on fence and it goes for a biggie. First of the game. New Zealand off to a flier.

FOUR! What a shot that is! Wow! That is some confidence. Yes, it is a half volley, yes, it is right in the slot for Allen but in such a big game, pulling that shot out on the second ball itself shows how fearless this guy is. He tonks it over the mid on fielder and bags a boundary to get off the mark.

Starc goes full, in search of some swing. He tries to get it back in from outside off but not a lot of movement. Allen strokes it to mid on.

All set now. Gear up everyone, to kick off the mega event. The Aussies are out in the middle. Devon Conway and Finn Allen are the openers for the Kiwis. Mitchell Starc to start with the new ball. A slip in place. Here we go...

We are all set for the action. So far so good with the weather. Let's hope it stays away. The players walk out along with the two umpires. As we see every time before the game starts, it will be time for the national anthems. New Zealand's first followed by Australia's.

NEW ZEALAND (Playing XI) - Devon Conway, Finn Allen, Kane Williamson (C), Glenn Phillips (WK), Mark Chapman, James Neesham, Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi, Tim Southee, Lockie Ferguson, Trent Boult.

AUSTRALIA (Playing XI) - David Warner, Aaron Finch (C), Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Tim David, Matthew Wade (WK), Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood.

Kane Williamson, the captain of New Zealand says they wanted to bowl first too but they'll make good use of the wicket now. Adds it is now about focusing on this game and not think about the plans and try and execute the plans. Informs about his team.

Aaron Finch, the captain of Australia says there is weather around and he feels the wicket gets better. States every time one plays for the Aussies there is pressure and everyone wants to do well. Informs Steven Smith, Cameron Green, Kane Richardson and Ashton Agar are not playing.

TOSS - AUSTRALIA have won the toss and they will BOWL first!

PITCH REPORT - Simon Doull says the wicket looks really good. Isha Guha then says it is a slow kind of a wicket and there is something in it for both, the pacers and the spinners. Adds it though has been under cover and the skipper might be tempted to bowl first after winning the toss. Informs the average score is around 160.

Enough about the teams now, let us talk about the weather, the forecast is not that great and there are dark clouds above but the rain has stayed away for now and let us hope it remains that way and we get a full game of cricket.

For New Zealand, Australia is not a place they enjoying visiting. Also, the hosts are not an opponent they fancy playing. They have won, just the one game in the last 17 against the Aussies in Australia. To add to that, they have not been in the best of forms heading into this World Cup. They were recently beaten by Pakistan in their own country. However, just like their opponents, they too are a side who have been doing unexpectedly well when it matters. Despite the form, the Kiwis are not a side one can discard.

The Aussies are yet again heavy favourites in the tournament. They are the defending champions and with the tournament being played in their own backyard, you have to term them as favourites to go all the way. However, no side yet has been able to defend the title. Also, the Aussies, in recent times have not been in the best of forms in this format. They head into this tournament after being beaten by England quite comprehensively. The hosts though are a side who thrive when it matters the most. The look of their side is more or less similar to what they had in the last World Cup and Finch will be eager to start off with a win.

IT IS TIME! It is time for the mega event! The first game of the T20I World Cup and it is a clash between the two finalists of the last editions, the Trans-Tasmain rivals will lock horns to kick things off. It is Australia taking on New Zealand at the SCG. This promises to be an absolute cracker. Stay tuned.
