Pakistan beat Bangladesh by 4 wickets

Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur

That is it from the coverage of this game, folks! The second T20I of the series will be played on 20th November 2021 at the same venue. That game will begin at 2 pm local (8 am GMT) but you can join us in advance for the build-up. Cheers!

Babar Azam, the winning captain of Pakistan, says that the pitch was difficult to bat on and credits the middle order for showing the skill-set required to adapt. Also praises Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz for their batting. Admits that they ended up giving 20 runs extra but he is still happy with the overall performance.

HASAN ALI IS THE PLAYER OF THE MATCH! Smiles and says that it's a pleasant moment for him. Admits that his performance was not up to the mark in the T20 World Cup but adds that ups and downs are a part of a cricketer's life. Shares that he has been here in the Bangladesh Premier League and knew the conditions. Adds that he trusted his variations and got the wickets.

Mahmudullah, the captain of Bangladesh, says that they chose to bat first as it was a good pitch but there was some help for the bowlers as well. Feels that they should have batted better and hopes to bounce back with better plans in the next game. Adds that a score of 140 would have been more competitive. Tells that his bowlers did a great job to pick early wickets but credits Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz for the way they finished the chase.

Presentation to follow...

After a sorry effort with the bat, Bangladesh got the start they desired with the ball. They dismissed Pakistan's in-form batsman Mohammad Rizwan very early in the innings, courtesy a beauty by Mustafizur Rahman. Their skipper Babar Azam did not stick too long either and was sent back to the pavilion. The Tigers did well to keep a tight lid on the scoring rate and kept on building the pressure. They were on top in the game after dismissing Fakhar Zaman and Khushdil Shah but were blown away by some power hitting towards the end. A great fight shown by Bangladesh and they surely will try to level the series in the next one.

It was a very unusual start from Pakistan with the bat. They lost both their openers cheaply and ended up losing four wickets in total inside the Powerplay. Fakhar Zaman and Khushdil Shah set the tone in the middle for Pakistan and guided the innings gradually with their 56-run alliance. But it was the partnership between Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz that took Pakistan to the finish line with their pinch-hitting at the death. The duo put on an unbeaten 36-run stand off just 15 balls to take Pakistan home in the final over.

What a game of cricket! A match full of twists and turns, but it was Pakistan with the last laugh. They take the lead in the three-match T20I series. Bangladesh started off beautifully but gave it away in the end. The Tigers stretched this till the last over but Pakistan stole the show in the end.

We are set for the chase! The players of Bangladesh have made their way out to the middle. Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan are at the crease! Mahedi Hasan will start with the ball.

....THE RUN CHASE...

Right then! 128 needed for Pakistan to win. A target which they will fancy but Bangladesh's bowlers will be on their toes as well. Stay tuned for the second essay.

Pakistan were on top right from ball number one. They picked up wickets at regular intervals and did not allow Bangladesh to score runs quickly throughout the innings. Babar Azam and his men did exceptionally well to restrict Bangladesh to just 25 in the Powerplay and grabbed three wickets as well. The Men in Green would be pleased with Hasan Ali’s performance here, he ended his spell with 3 for 24. Mohammad Wasim did well too, he broke that top order and picked up 2 vital scalps. In totality, all the bowlers were on the money and it's a disciplined performance from them. With 128 to get, it looks like an easy chase here for Pakistan.

Bangladesh’s batting woes continue on their home soil as well. The Tigers fell apart right from the beginning, as the top order batsmen fell in quick succession. Afif Hossain showed a bit of resilience in the middle, he was looking good with a few bold shots, but could not hold on for too long. The last 10 overs for Bangladesh were much better, cameos from Nurul Hasan and Mahedi Hasan guided the Tigers past 120, probably falling short by 20 runs.

26 runs in the final two overs and Bangladesh have managed to put up a fighting total on the board. It all became possible due to the cameos from Nurul Hasan and Mahedi Hasan. Despite giving away a few extra runs at the death, Pakistan will be quite pleased with their work in the first half as during the toss, Babar Azam reckoned 140-150 would be a par total on this pitch.

Pakistan, on other hand, will be looking at this series as an opportunity to strengthen their bench strength. There were no major areas of concern in the Pakistan unit in the recently concluded T20 World Cup and this series provides a perfect opportunity for them to try some new combinations. The likes of Haider Ali, Khushdil Shah and Mohammad Nawaz are set to be given some much-needed game time while the top order and the core bowling group remain intact. As the countdown for the next T20 World Cup begins, giving opportunities to some of the younger bowlers like Mohammad Wasim, Usman Qadir can also prove vital in terms of creating more options in the team. The conditions in Dhaka in recent times have been spin-friendly and whether that trend continues or not remains to be seen. Either way, Pakistan are a formidable unit and it is upto the Bangla Tigers to replicate their recent successful run at home. Can they outclass Pakistan? We shall find out. Stay tuned.

The home team, Bangladesh are looking to make a fresh start after a miserable T20 World Cup campaign. In a desperate bid to solve their batting woes, the team management has opted for young talents like Najmul Hossain Shanto, Saif Hassan over more experienced players like Mushfiqur Rahim, Liton Das and Soumya Sarkar. Their star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is also missing out due to an injury. The lack of consistent performances and firepower in the batting lineup has been an issue for the Bangla Tigers for a long time now and they will be hoping to sort that out with the change in personnel in this series. Their bowling, on the other hand, has been doing quite decently especially on the home turf in recent times and more of the same will be expected from them. They will definitely carry some confidence into this game after securing emphatic victories in the last two series. Can they produce another similar performance?

The T20 action continues to roll on as the bilateral T20I series between Bangladesh and Pakistan get underway. Pakistan had almost a perfect T20 World Cup campaign before that heartbreaking loss in the semi-final but still, they will be high on confidence coming into this series. On the other hand, Bangladesh had a forgettable World Cup after failing to register a single win in the Super 12 stage of the tournament. They are back at their home turf now and we can expect a better show from the Bangla Tigers. On that note, welcome to our coverage.
