Commentary
We are back for Bangladesh's reply with the bat. The players of Sri Lanka are slowly taking their respective fielding positions. Tanzid Hasan and Saif Hassan will open the innings for Bangladesh. Nuwan Thushara will start with the new ball. Away we go...
... THE RUN CHASE ...
Ratnayake rescues the day - Enter Tharindu Ratnayake, who took charge and dragged the score from 54 for 5 to 147 for 6, bringing up his maiden T20I half-century along the way. The lower middle order chipped in to lift Sri Lanka to a commendable 160, far beyond what looked possible at the start. Bangladesh now have a target of 161 to chase for bronze, and with Sri Lanka's bowlers having something to defend, this one is far from done. Stay tuned as the second chapter of this story unfolds soon.
A flicker of hope, snuffed out - Sahan Arachchige and Ashen Bandara steadied the ship with a fifth-wicket stand that finally gave Sri Lanka something to cheer about. But just as the recovery looked promising, Rishad Hossain struck to break the partnership, leaving Sri Lanka 54 for 5 and staring at a modest total.
Spin carnage, then a lone stand - Bangladesh's spin department was all over Sri Lanka's batting unit, but it was Tharindu Ratnayake who stood against the odds and helped his team to post a commendable total of 165 on the board. Sri Lanka's innings unravelled early, with the first wicket falling in the third over and the rest tumbling soon after. The Bangladesh spinners were all over the top order, and by the end of the Powerplay the Lankans were gasping at 29 for 4.

A couple of runs to end, and Sri Lanka finish with a very solid total of 165/9 on the board. Flighted up, angling it across off. Nuwan Thushara reaches for it and slices it off the toe end of the bat and to the right of long off for a couple of quick runs.
Nuwan Thushara is the last batter for Sri Lanka.
OUT! TIMBER! Flatter one from Saif Hassan, sliding it across the right-hander, from middle to off. Vijayakanth Viyaskanth backs away a bit and has a big swing across the line and ends up missing the ball. The ball then goes on to castle into the stumps and Sri Lanka are now 9 down for 163.
SIX! Oh, that should have been another wicket for Saif Hassan. Flighted ball on middle and leg, swung away down to deep mid-wicket. Mahedi Hasan is right on the ropes and takes a good catch, but he takes a step back and ends up placing his foot on the boundary ropes.
Vijayakanth Viyaskanth is in next.
OUT! BOWLED! Quicker through the air, just outside off and darting it back in. Sahan Arachchige sits down to slog sweep it away but he's played all over it, and misses. The ball crashes into the off pole and the skipper has to walk back after a solid knock.
That's excellent running. Full and around off, driven along the turf and wide of the fielder at long off for a couple of quick runs.
Half an appeal for LBW, but it's been turned down. A round-arm delivery, sliding it into the pads. Wanuja Sahan goes for the reverse sweep, misses, and gets it off the pads to the off side for a leg bye.

Back of a length, angled into the batter. This is tucked away wide of mid-wicket for a single.
FOUR! A cracking shot to get off the mark. Slower ball, a tad short and outside off. Sahan stays back and smacks it past point for a boundary.
Wanuja Sahan is the new batter in.
OUT! CAUGHT! Another one bites the dust, and Sri Lanka are now 7 down. Mustafizur Rahman takes pace off, serving it full and on the stumps. Dushan Hemantha takes the front leg out and heaves it down to long on, where Tanzid Hasan takes a straightforward catch.
Short of a length, tucked away off the hips and past square leg for a couple of runs.
Slower one, back of a length and angled across off. Dushan Hemantha stays back and dabs it to backward point.
The next batter is Dushan Hemantha.
OUT! CAUGHT! Finally, some respite for Mustafizur Rahman and Bangladesh, but the damage has already been done. Rahman serves it a bit fuller and outside off, Tharindu Ratnayake looks to get forward and hammer it over covers but doesn't get the elevation. Rishad Hossain at extra cover leaps up and snaffles it nicely with both hands. End of a game-changing knock from Ratnayake.

DROPPED! That's poor fielding from Parvez Hossain Emon. Shorter and around off, Tharindu Ratnayake reverse-sweeps it high down to deep backward point, where Emon doesn't get forward at all, and tries to take it really low, ending up in a dropped catch. Single taken.
SIX! Flatter one, angled across off. Tharindu Ratnayake goes on one knee and slog-sweeps it in front of mid-wicket for a biggie. 20 off the over with a ball to go.
FOUR! Oh, nearly a superb piece of fielding, but the ball ends over the ropes. Good length around off, swatted away between long on and deep mid-wicket. The fielder from the latter position runs to his right and dives in, flicking the ball back up and unfortunately for him, over the ropes as well.
Nagging length just outside off. This time Ratnayake fails to connect with the reverse sweep.
FOUR! Length ball, angled into the batter. Tharindu Ratnayake swings it leg side, smearing away in front of square leg for a boundary.
SIX! Tharindu Ratnayake keeps throwing caution to the wind and nails the reverse this time, bringing up his maiden T20I FIFTY, off just 26 balls. Floated up on a length around off, Ratnayake reverse sweeps it over deep backward point for a huge six.

Commentary
Time for the summit clash - Now that we know our three teams on the podium, with Sri Lanka securing the bronze medal, it is now time to see which side takes home the Gold Medal at the 20th Asian Games. An age-old rivalry reignites at the Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, as India take on Pakistan. The winner gets to stand at the top with the coveted gold medal wrapped around their neck, whereas the loser has to settle for silver. Fireworks are destined to fly, so stick around for all the action. The final game is about to begin at 4.30 am GMT, but you can join our build-up, which is about to get underway in a bit. Cheers!
Bangladesh's mental strength in question - Bangladesh certainly seemed to have a more experienced side, and they also had a bowling attack that was conducive to the conditions out in the middle. They began impeccably, getting the opposition down to 21/4. Mahedi Hasan was brilliant up top, but then there was a bit of a lull. Bangladesh did manage to pick the 5th wicket and at that time, it seemed like they would keep Sri Lanka down to under 100 runs. However, things changed drastically when Mustafizur Rahman came in and bowled a howler of a first over, giving away 25 runs that included plenty of extras as well. From thereon, they never recovered. With the bat, the story was even worse. Bangladesh are 2/0 inside the first couple of overs and were under immense pressure. Sri Lanka bogged them down with spin from both ends as well. The top three all went out for ducks, as Parvez Hossain Emon and Yasir Ali made a couple of 20s. It was never going to be enough as they kept bleeding wickets. Nasum Ahmed hit a few boundaries at the end, but he was also the last one to fall on 26, leaving Bangladesh heartbroken.
Ratnayake's day out - Sri Lanka lost 4 wickets early on, and then they were 54/5 after a decent stand between Sahan Arachchige and Ashen Bandara when Tharindu Ratnayake walked out to bat. He played a few shots, but once he found his range, he made the Bangladesh bowlers pay. The score went from 54/5 to 147/6 in a flash when Ratnayake finally got out for 65. The skipper played second fiddle but played a very crucial knock nonetheless. With the ball, Nuwan Thushara got the ball rolling with a wicket-maiden, before Ratnayake joined the action again. He picked up a couple of wickets along with Thushara, and Sri Lanka also got 4 wickets in the Powerplay. The bowling changes kept on coming, and all of the Lankan spinners got plenty of purchase from the deck. Vijayakanth Viyaskanth and Wanuja Sahan also picked up a couple of wickets each, as the skipper himself got the final wicket and sealed a podium finish.
Sri Lanka take home Bronze - What a turnaround for the young Lions from Sri Lanka. They were dreadful with the bat for about one and a half games, but that final half today was exemplary. Their bowlers have then gone on and completed the job in iconic fashion. Bangladesh will feel the Bronze Medal was there for the taking, and they self-destructed quite a bit in this pressure clash.
OUT! CAUGHT! The bowling change from Sahan Arachchige to bring himself back into the attack will do the last bit for Sri Lanka, as they have beaten Bangladesh by 63 runs to secure a bronze medal in the Asian Games 2026. Pitching full, wide outside the off stump. Nasum bites on the bait to hit it downtown. He swings hard, aiming to clear the boundary, but fails to reach the middle of the blade. Ashen Bandara judges the skier with ease, moving in slightly from the rope to take a routine catch.
A touch shorter, on off, Nasum Ahmed flat bats it to long on, but Ahmed denies the single.
Fuller, outside off, Nasum Ahmed tries to slap it away, but the delivery is way to full for that shot. The ball gets the inside edge and bounces wide of the stumps.
Sahan Arachchige brings himself back on.

OUT! CHOPPED ON! The googly finally proves to be too good for Aliss Al Islam, and Sri Lanka are just one wicket away from sealing the Bronze Medal. Dushan Hemantha drags the length back, bowling it just outside off. The bails fall off and Islam has to walk back.

A big appeal for caught behind, but it is turned down. Flatter googly, turning past the off stump and staying low. Nasum Ahmed sits down to sweep but misses and the ball goes past the bottom edge. Lovely bowling. A googly now, on a nagging length and on off, turning away a bit. Nasum Ahmed pokes at it but is beaten on the outside edge.
Very full and on leg, clipped away down to long on for a single.
DRINKS! A very similar start for both teams with the bat, but Sri Lanka were able to turn things around with one big partnership. In comparison, Bangladesh have crumbled under pressure and are on the verge of a surprise defeat in this Bronze Medal game. On paper, they are a far more experienced team than these young Lankan Lions, but with 99 needed off 60 balls, and only 3 wickets in hand, things are looking bleak for the Bangla Tigers. OUT! LBW! Two in two for Viyaskanth and now he is on a Hat-Trick. Another beautifully disguised googly, pitching it fractionally outside off stump and turning in sharply toward the stumps. Mahedi Hasan fails to pick the wrist variation, pressing forward with a defensive stroke only to be beaten on the inside edge. The ball hits him high on the front pad. Viyaskanth appeals out loud. The umpire takes all the time and raises his finger to it with a nod.

Tossed up around off, Emon leans on and blocks it to the right of point. The batters look for a run but decide against it, and rightly so, as the fielder pounces on it very quickly.

The two sides first met at the Asian Games in 2010, when cricket made its debut at this competition, and Bangladesh won that day and powered into the finals, a result the Lankans have not forgotten. They crossed paths again in 2014, but the weather had the final say and the match ended without a result. Rain has been the unwelcome guest at this tournament this year as well, but today the radar looks far kinder than it has all week, so fingers crossed this one gets the full contest it deserves. Bronze medal, old scores, one final chance.
History, Heartbreak, and Bronze - For Bangladesh, the motivation runs deep. They stood on the podium in Hangzhou in 2022, beating Pakistan in the third-place match, and repeating that result today would cement them as regulars in the Asian Games medal rounds, something that matters well beyond a single tournament. For Sri Lanka, winless at this edition, this is the last chance to claim a medal and wash away the sting of Thursday's catastrophe.
Greetings folks - Hello and a very warm welcome to all the viewers, where the Asian Games Men's Cricket Competition 2026 reaches its final medal match under the clearest skies the Korogi Sports Park has seen all week. Bronze is on the line, and for two sides who arrived in Japan chasing gold, today is about making sure the journey ends with something real to carry home.
... MATCHDAY ...
A medal to salvage - Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will meet with a Bronze medal at stake, with both sides looking to finish the Asian Games 2026 on a positive note after contrasting semi-final disappointments. Bangladesh are appearing in the Bronze medal match for the second successive Games, having beaten Pakistan to claim third place in Hangzhou in 2023, while Sri Lanka have already gone a step further than their quarter-final exit at the previous edition. What could have been? For Bangladesh, there will be a sense of what might have been. After the quarter-final against Malaysia was washed out, they earned a semi-final against Pakistan, where a place in the gold medal match was genuinely within reach. In a contest reduced to 13 overs a side, they recovered from 21/3 to post 111/7, with Towhid Hridoy's 42 off 25 leading the fightback. They then had Pakistan in trouble at 53/4, but the game slipped away in the final stages, with Abdul Samad taking apart Mustafizur Rahman for 23 in the 10th over. Mustafizur conceded 41 from his two overs as Pakistan completed the chase with nine balls to spare. A response needed with the bat - Bangladesh's batting will once again be central to their hopes. Hridoy showed in the semi-final that he can provide the acceleration needed in a shortened contest, while the likes of Litton Das, Tanzid Hasan, Saif Hassan and Mosaddek Hossain give the side plenty of experience through the order. With Mahedi Hasan, Rishad Hossain and Nasum Ahmed offering options with the ball, Bangladesh have the variety to exploit conditions that have generally offered something to the spinners at Nisshin. Sri Lanka need to put the semi-final behind - Sri Lanka's semi-final was a far more one-sided affair. Their bowlers actually gave themselves something to work with against India, using the slow conditions effectively as the defending champions were restricted to 169/7. But the chase quickly unravelled, with Sri Lanka bowled out for just 45 in 9.5 overs. Ten batters were dismissed for single figures, while three run-outs underlined just how badly the chase fell apart under pressure. That collapse cannot simply be carried into another knockout match. Sahan Arachchige's side has several players capable of making an impact, with Ashen Bandara, Lasith Croospulle and Nuwanidu Fernando providing batting options, while Vijayakanth Viyaskanth, Tharindu Ratnayake and Nuwan Thushara give them a varied bowling attack. The squad also includes experienced campaigners such as Chamika Karunaratne, meaning they have enough resources to recover from the disappointment of the semi-final. Weather watch - The weather has finally offered some encouragement after a frustrating start to the knockouts. All four quarter-finals were washed out, but we did eventually get some cricket in the semi-finals, albeit in shortened contests, with a wet outfield affecting one game and India's dominance bringing the other to an early finish. The forecast for finals day looks far more promising, though, and hopefully the rain stays away to give us full contests in both the Bronze Medal and Gold Medal matches. Form (Last 5 completed T20Is, most recent first) - BAN - LWWLL | SL - LLLLL. One last chance for a medal - The Bronze medal offers both teams an opportunity to salvage something from a campaign that promised more. Bangladesh will draw confidence from their ability to push Pakistan close, but must avoid another costly lapse if they are to repeat their podium finish from 2023. Sri Lanka, meanwhile, need to show that the 45 all out was an aberration rather than a reflection of their batting capabilities. At the Korogi Sports Park, with a medal on the line, the side that handles the pressure better could well leave Nisshin with something to celebrate.

Mustafizur Rahman is the last man in.
OUT! CHOPPED ON! The googly finally proves to be too good for Aliss Al Islam, and Sri Lanka are just one wicket away from sealing the Bronze Medal. Dushan Hemantha drags the length back, bowling it just outside off. Islam rocks back and tries to punch it through the off side but the ball turns back in and takes the inside edge, before eventually rolling back onto the stumps. The bails fall off and Islam has to walk back.
Floated up on the stumps, and this is swept away behind square leg for a single.
A big appeal for caught behind, but it is turned down. Flatter googly, turning past the off stump and staying low. Nasum Ahmed sits down to sweep but misses and the ball goes past the bottom edge. Excellent take from the keeper. The shout might have actually been for LBW as the ball flicked the backside of the pad.
Tossed up at the stumps, Aliss Al Islam slogs it without much timing and over mid on for a single.
This is flighted up on leg, Ahmed goes for the slog sweep and gets an inside edge down to short fine leg for a single.
