The wicket is playing fairly well, and in the post-Lunch session, Bangladesh will look to get this lead to 200 and beyond, whereas for Zimbabwe, the equation is simple as they need to wrap this up as soon as possible and then look to bat well. Let's hope that the rain relents and we get a prompt start to the second session.

First it was Mehidy and Taijul with a 63-run stand and then we had Mehidy and Tanzim with an unbeaten 62-run stand. Bangladesh now, with a lead of 177, are well on top in this game. Zimbabwe, on the other hand, will rue the fact that they were right in the game at the start of the session today and they did miss an opportunity of Tanzim when he was dropped on 4 off Vincent Masekesa's bowling, denying him a well-deserved fifer.

As for Zimbabwe, they looked bereft of ideas after the strong opening stand, but debutant leg-spinner Vincent Masekesa injected much-needed energy into their bowling effort. His timely breakthroughs in the third session hauled Zimbabwe back into the contest and ensured the lead didn’t spiral out of control.

Bangladesh appeared to be running away with the game across the first two sessions on Day 2, especially after bowling Zimbabwe out for 227 and then putting together a solid start with the bat. A century from opener Shadman Islam put the hosts in a strong position to build a substantial lead, but a mini-collapse in the final session stalled their charge.

Right then, the Test is nicely poised with three days left. Zimbabwe’s strong effort has kept Bangladesh from taking full control. They will aim to wrap up the innings early on Day 3 and build a solid reply. For Bangladesh, Mehidy will be key in pushing the lead towards 100. In the third session, Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mushfiqur Rahim took Bangladesh into the lead, but Zimbabwe fought their way back through the debutant leggie, Vincent Masekesa. Mushfiqur’s run out while going for a risky single added to Bangladesh’s troubles as they slipped dramatically after being 259/3 at one stage.

Bangladesh needed just one ball to take the last Zimbabwe wicket, bowling them out for 227, with Taijul Islam taking six wickets. In response, openers Shadman Islam and Anamul Haque had a shaky start but settled in to put on a 118-run partnership. Shadman capitalised on the conditions and went on to score a ton. Zimbabwe struggled in the second session but ended it well with two quick wickets.

SESSION SUMMARY - 30 overs, 86 runs and 4 wickets. There’s something about the third session where the serenity of the day gives way to sudden drama. On Day 1, it was Bangladesh who came storming back, but on Day 2, it was Zimbabwe who turned the tide with a spirited fightback and will head into stumps as the slightly happier side. Yes, Bangladesh will be disappointed with the collapse, but they have managed to stretch their lead to 64 runs. Still, they will walk back to the dressing room, wondering what could have been after such a solid platform earlier in the day.
