Commentary
Welcome back for England's reply. Shreyas Iyer has a few final words for his troops in the Indian huddle before they spread out onto the field. Phil Salt and Jos Buttler will open the innings for England. Arshdeep Singh has the new ball in hand. Phil to face the first ball. Away we go...
... THE RUN CHASE ...
Will 190 be enough? It has been that kind of surface with something on offer for everyone. The quicks have enjoyed good pace and bounce, while the spinners have also found enough grip from the surface. India have three spinners who will be eager to exploit those conditions while England boast plenty of batting depth and will back themselves to chase this down. It should be an interesting chase. Stick around!
Curran and Jacks deliver - Ishan tried to force the pace but never quite found the next gear he was searching for, while Shivam Dube endured a scratchy stay at the crease. Will Jacks and Sam Curran combined well against India's left-hand-heavy batting line-up despite having to bowl with the shorter leg-side boundary in play for the left-handers. It was Tilak Varma who struck a few crucial blows at the end to lift the visitors to a competitive 190.
Trading blows early - Abhishek Sharma swung like a rusty gate as he struggled to come to terms with the pace and bounce on offer before he got himself going, and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi also got a couple of sixes away. The Powerplay ended with the two sides trading blows as India lost both openers but scored 65 runs. Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan then came together to lay the platform, scoring at close to 10 an over, with Iyer looking the more fluent of the two. However, his dismissal opened the door for England, who capitalised on the breakthrough to wrest back control of the innings.
England keep India in check - 28 runs came off the last two overs, but England will be pleased with the way they pulled things back. After being 130/3 with 7 overs to go, India could only manage 60 runs in the next 7 to end up with a total that feels a bit under par.

OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Archer finishes off with a wicket to his name. He slams the deck hard, on a length, outside off. Harshit opens up and attempts to play the pull shot. He swings the bat very hard, but the ball bounces and takes a feather of the outside edge. Jos Buttler takes a simple catch, and a gentle appeal is all that is needed for the umpire to raise his finger. India post 190/7 on the board as 17 runs come off the final over.
Yorker outside off, Tilak Varma stretches out, and carves it to Josh Tongue at short third. Josh fumbles a bit on the dive to his right and the batters cross.
Bangs it short and over the top of middle. Tilak Varma gets a bit ahead and looks to pull it over square leg, but the ball springs up and flies at helmet height to the keeper.
FOUR! This is turning out to be an expensive final over! Jofra pushes it wide and nails the yorker. Tilak Varma reaches out, opens the bat face, and despite falling over, he manages to slice the ball over the leaping Josh Tongue at short third for a boundary.
SIX! WOWZA! Short of a good length on the off stump. Tilak Varma goes deep in the crease and drags it across, dumping the ball deep into the crowd behind deep mid-wicket.
SIX! Right out of the screws! A juicy half-volley on off. Tilak Varma clears the front leg away, gets nicely under the ball and clobbers it into the stands behind long on.
Jofra Archer (3-0-23-0) to close out the innings.

SIX! SMOKED! That extra delivery costs Tongue a lot. Josh goes searching for a yorker, but slips in a full toss instead. Harshit goes back in the crease and pummels it over long on for half a dozen runs.
Nails the wide yorker, Harshit cannot get the bat down in time and fails to squeeze it out. Gets beaten on the outside edge.
WIDE! Tight call. Brook is not happy, so is Buttler as they think Harshit moved a bit, which, he did. Bowls it wide outside off, on a very full length. Rana moves a bit to hit it away, but misses to lay his bat on the ball. It flirts past the tramline and it is called a wide.
Back of a length, at the body, this is helped away towards long leg for a single.
Harshit Rana is in at number 8.
OUT! AXAR PATEL IS RUN OUT! Tongue shortens the length and slants it on the leg stump after spotting Patel charge down the ground. The ball bounces off the track and beats Axar's attempted pull shot and dribbles back to the keeper. Tilak has already charged for a bye, and Axar is a bit late to respond to that call. Jos Buttler gathers the ball and releases a quick throw but misses his shy at the batting end, but the ball rolls straight onto the stumps at the non-striker's end with Axar short of his ground.
Hard length, on off, Tilak Varma backs away and carves it behind to short third and they get a quick single.
Tongue follows Varma, who dances down the track and bashes it on a length, angling into the batter. Tilak is cramped for room and steers it to deep mid-wicket for a couple of runs.
Josh Tongue to bowl the 19th over. 3-0-35-0 so far for the debutant.

On a length, around off, this is jabbed away to deep point for a single. Excellent spell from Curran. He finishes with figures reading 3/32 in 4 overs.
Skids through on off, on a length. Axar stabs it through backward point for a single.
A brief hold-up in play as the umpires sort out who should be on strike for the next ball. There is a bit of confusion in the middle, but it is eventually confirmed that since the batters had crossed before the catch was taken, it will be a single and Axar Patel will be on strike.
Nearly the fourth wicket for Curran! He bowls the slower one at 109 kph. The length is full and it is aimed at the stumps, angling into the batter. Tilak gets a bit across and tries to pick it up and over deep square leg, but plays off the inner half of the bat. The shot has no power, and it sails towards deep square leg, where Jofra comes a bit forward and has to really stretch his hands forward to scoop the dipping ball. He is not sure whether he completed the catch, and he himself requests to get it checked. The decision is sent upstairs to check the legality of the catch while Archer gets his fingers taped up after grazing them on the ground. After checking several replays, it is deemed that the ball burst through his hands and bounced on the ground. Now, there is another delay to check whether the batters completed the run or not. Since the batters had crossed, it will be a single with Axar Patel on strike for the next ball.
Did that carry? Jofra Archer does not look overly confident. The third umpire is called into action. The ball has burst through Archer's fingers and hit the ground. NOT OUT flashes on the big screen. Jofra appears to have hurt himself in the process of attempting the catch, and the physio is out to attend to him.
At 128 kph, full and outside off. Axar lofts it inside out over cover-point for only a single.
WIDE! Short and over the batter's head. Axar ducks. Wide given for height.
Axar Patel is the new batter.
Commentary
On to the next one - England move 1-0 up in the five-match series and will take plenty of heart from this win. India, on the other hand, have some soul searching to do. They stuck to five bowlers in defence of the total, but execution let them down, and they'll look to bounce back with the ball in the third T20I at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. It will be played on Tuesday, 7th July, 2026, with the first ball scheduled to be bowled at 4.30 pm GMT (10 pm IST). But before that, a thrilling Sunday is on the cards as the Grand Finale of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup, 2026, will be played between England Women and Australia Women at Lord's. So do join us to catch all the action from that match. But from here, it's a wrap. Goodbye, cheers!
The victorious captain of England - Harry Brook says he is extremely pleased with the performance. He praises the effort of his team, saying they toiled hard in the field and executed their plans well. Mentions that they knew they could chase the target considering the wind and one shorter boundary. Shares that they took the dimensions of the ground and the wind into account as best as they could while bowling. Feels that it is important to maximise the Powerplay even if a few early wickets fall. He also praises Jacob Bethell for his knock, saying he is remarkably mature for his age.
The Indian captain - Shreyas Iyer, when asked about where the game slipped, says everyone knows where it turned, but he does not want to single out any one player. He says he expected the bowler in question to come back strong, but the 17th over ended up haunting them, adding that he (Bishnoi) will learn from it. About the total, he calls it a phenomenal score given the variable bounce on the pitch. He says India were on top through the first 15 overs, but credit has to go to the way Jacob played. On Sam Curran's bowling, he says Curran worked out the dimensions of the ground early and gave India no room, adding that many of the batters rely on using the width to play through the off side, and Curran denied them exactly that. On Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, he says he has an unflinching, fearless attitude, and the way he bats in the nets is something to learn from. He says he did not expect him to look nervous, and found the way he stepped up on debut pleasing. About three straight losses and India's ability to bounce back, he says they are always in high spirits and believes this is as low as it gets, with the only way from here being up.
PLAYER OF THE MATCH - JACOB BETHELL deservedly receives the award for his unbeaten and match-winning 76 off 46. Bethell says that Harry Brook set the tone really well, which made it easier for him early on as he looked to give Brook the strike. He adds that Tom Banton also chipped in. Believes that in such chases, a couple of big overs make the chase much easier. Opines that it is important to adapt to the dimensions of different grounds, and when one side is easier to clear the ropes, the longer side allows batters to pick up twos. He says he really enjoyed his semi-final knock against India, and he always wants to perform well against the big teams.
... Time for the post-match Presentation ...
Pitch played its tricks - England and India both walked off unsure what this total actually meant. The pitch had bounce early and gripped through the middle, letting Rashid find turn, while Archer's 1/40 undersold just how well he bowled. Iyer and Abhishek Sharma were the only two who batted with real fluency. Kishan's 49 never quite flowed, and Dube struggled to get going throughout. Momentum swung back and forth all evening, from Archer's fiery opening burst to India's settled start, then a double breakthrough that shifted things back, before Iyer and Kishan's stand pulled India ahead again. Curran used his variations adroitly to claw back the middle overs, and Varma's late hitting rounded things off. Slower balls stuck, hard lengths climbed awkwardly, and in the end, this pitch had the last word.
Two B's combined - Bethell and Banton, though, kept England in the hunt by cashing in on anything loose, and crucially, kept finding a boundary every over to stop the asking rate from running away. The two formed a crucial 67-run stand and picked their moments against the Indian spin trio. However, the likes of Axar and Arshdeep brought India back into the game as England slipped down from 118/3 to 133/5. But Bethell kept the fight on and produced one of the finest knocks in the run chase he has ever played. And of course, it included a bit of generosity from Ravi Bishnoi, who conceded 29 runs in that 17th over, which virtually ended the game for India. The story of the evening looked set to belong to India's wonder boy, Sooryavanshi. Instead, it was England's golden boy, Bethell, who signed off in style.
Early slip, then rebuild - England couldn't have gotten off to a worse start by losing both their openers on a duck inside the very first over. Arshdeep just landed two blows to keep India ahead from the get-go. But Brook came out with a solid counterattacking mindset. He brought the chase back on track with his blitz, but his fun was ended by Axar just when he looked ominous. At 51/3, England were pushed back for a rebuild. From there, everything hinged on India's spinners having a big day, and finger spin proved far more effective than wrist spin on this Old Trafford surface, the bowlers finding more help off the pitch than through the air. The run rate did drop as soon as the slow bowlers combined.
England take the lead in fine fashion - An inning of the highest quality from the young Jacob Bethell, who just keeps bettering his credentials across formats for England. He's produced back-to-back big knocks against India in the shortest format now. First, that extraordinary 105 in Mumbai, in the T20 World Cup semifinal, though he couldn't get his team over the line that night. But tonight, an unbeaten 76 does the job. Heartbreak for India. They were right there in the hunt, but in the end, their bowling lacked the bite, and just as importantly, the control to go with it.

That will do nicely for the home side. England ace the chase to go 1-0 up in the series. Arshdeep gets the yorker in from around the wicket, on middle. Archer squeezes it square on the leg side by using his wrists. By the time Vaibhav Sooryavanshi can get around and make an attempt to release the throw, Jofra makes it back for the second run.
Banged into the deck, angled into the left-hander. Bethell swivels and pulls it down to deep fine leg for a single.
Another yorker, on the off stump. Jofra jams it out behind point for a single. 3 more needed for England.
Good running. Singh nails the yorker, on middle. Archer gets his bat down and digs it out through square leg. The batters take the first run hard and come charging back for the second. Jofra gets home before Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's throw reaches the keeper.
FOUR! Archer gets it away. England are now one big hit away. Bowled into the deck, on middle. Archer hangs back and swipes it away on the leg side. Hits it to the left of the man at deep square leg and picks up a boundary.
From around the wicket, targeting the off pole, on a good length. Archer brings his bat out in front and taps it back to Arshdeep.
Penultimate over coming up. Who knows, it could well be the final over of the game. England need 10 from 12 balls. Arshdeep Singh will bowl out. 3-0-30-3 so far.

Takes pace off and keeps it near the tramline on off, on a short of a length. Archer swings for the hills but gets an inside edge that sneaks past the stumps. It rolls behind on the leg side and the batters cross.
9 from the over, with a ball to go.
Wide! Dug in short, over the right shoulder. Archer bails out of the pull shot. Wide given for height. Rana is not happy with the wide call and feels hard done by. Jofra was crouching slightly, but the ball still went comfortably over his head.
Into the surface, on off. Archer arches back to play the upper cut but misses.
Is there any twist left? You can't rule anything out in this format. With 12 needed from 14 balls, Jofra Archer is the new batter in.
OUT! CAUGHT! Sam Curran holes out. Full and speared in at the pads. Curran picks it up nicely off the pads and has no intention of keeping it on the ground. The shot was on, but Sam failed to get it wide enough of the fielder in the deep. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi runs to his right from deep backward square leg and leaps to take a good catch at head height.
On a back of a length, on off. Bethell steers it down to deep third for one.
SIX! Simply superb from the young man. Rana hurls it on a length, around the off stump from around the wicket. Bethell hangs low to get under the ball and uses the pace to play the reverse scoop over deep third for a six.
Starts with an off-pace ball, on a good length, on off. Curran angles it behind point for a single.
England are clear favorites now. They need just 20 runs from 18 balls. A bowling change, as Harshit Rana (2-0-20-0) is back on.

A couple of runs saved by Arshdeep Singh but he seems to have jarred his shoulder in the process. Drops it short, does Bishnoi, on middle. Jacob gets on top of the bounce and pulls it wide of deep square leg. Arshdeep Singh sprints to his right in the deep and as he dives, he gets into a bit of a tangle as he lands awkwardly on his right shoulder. Arshdeep grimaces in pain beyond the sidelines but later gets back up on his feet. 29 runs off the over. A remarkable turnaround in an over.
Is that a four? Arshdeep dives to his right, trying to keep it out, but his hand can't quite get to the ball, and it cannons off his thigh as he tumbles over the ropes. It's ruled a clean save in the end, but Arshdeep is down, clutching his right shoulder in pain. He still has an over left to bowl, and India would hope that it is nothing serious.
SIX! 27 runs off the over with a ball to go. Jacob Bethell has all but sealed the fate of the game. Flighted delivery, too full this time, on middle. Bethell drops to a knee and clubs it way over deep mid-wicket.
FOUR! In the gap! A bit too short, on middle. Bethell backs away and slaps it uppishly but to the left of the extra cover fielder for a boundary.
On the pads, on a length. Bethell shovels it behind square leg for a couple of runs.
SIX! Jacob Bethell makes Ravi Bishnoi pay once again. With this hit, Bethell brings up his 4th T20I fifty. Floated up, it is the googly, on middle. Jacob clears the front leg and tonks it back over the bowler's head for half a dozen. 15 runs off the over with only 2 legal balls bowled so far in the over. England have a golden opportunity here to convert this into a massive over.
This is slower, on a good length, around off. Bethell moves towards the leg side again to slam it away on the off side but is beaten on the outside edge. Would you believe it? Bishnoi has cut the return crease yet again. No Ball called. Free Hit to follow...
SIX! Jacob Bethell makes the Free Hit count. Pushed through, right in the slot, on middle. Bethell backs away and makes room for himself. A clean swing of the arms and Bethell deposits it over long on for a biggie. The 150 is up for England.
No Ball! For the second time in the game, Ravi Bishnoi has cut the return crease with his back leg. Dishes out the googly, outside off. Not short enough for the cut. Curran chops it wide of point for a single. Free Hit coming up.
Change of ends for Ravi Bishnoi. 3-0-32-0 so far.

Slows it down a touch and it is shorter as well, on off. Bethell forces it off the back foot but straight to cover. 10 runs and a wicket from Chakaravarthy's last over. England need 49 off 24.
FOUR! Smashed! From over the wicket for Bethell, full and quick, across off. Bethell puts his head down and swings through the line. Drills it back past the bowler, and Axar Patel at long on stands no chance.
Closer to the off stump now and fuller as well. Sam punches it to deep cover for one.
FOUR! Edged away! A bit of air given, short and wide on off. Curran flashes and flashes hard. Gets an outside edge and it races fine of the short third fielder for a boundary.
Huge wicket for India. With 58 runs required in 28 balls, in walks Sam Curran at number 7. He bowled really well, but can he get the job done with the bat for his team? Let's find out.
OUT! LBW! That's got to be close, and the finger has been raised. Will Jacks has reviewed it immediately. Was there any bat? From around the wicket, very full, on middle. Jacks goes for the reverse and reaches out in front. The ball dips under the blade to hit him flush on the right boot. No bat involved on UltraEdge, and it is three reds on Ball Tracking with the ball crashing into the middle stump. Jacks takes a review with him. England are now 5 down for 133.
Pushed through, on a nagging length, across off. Bethell hangs deep and swings at it. He does not quite get hold of it and it goes down to long on for one.

Not that full, not too short either. Aimed at the pads. Bethell charges down and works it to the vacant backward square leg for a single. Excellent recovery from Axar after being hit for a boundary on the first ball of the over. Just 8 runs from it. He is done with his spell, with figures reading 1/20 in 4 overs.
Spotting Jacks skip down the track, Axar fires one outside off on a fuller length. Will adjusts well to it and taps it in front of cover-point for a quick single.
Pitched outside leg, on a length. Bethell creates room by backing away and swats it down the ground for a single.
A lot fuller on off, Will Jacks presses forward and clips it through wide mid-wicket for a single.
Slides it in on a length, Will Jacks watchfully bunts it back to the bowler.
FOUR! Expertly played! Short and slow by Axar, outside off. Will Jacks has all the time in the world to rock back and punch it to the cover region. He beats Shreyas Iyer to his left and picks up a crucial boundary.

Flat and full, outside off. Bethell lunges forward and creams the cover drive to the left of the fielder at cover and calls for two straightaway. The long off fielder has a lot of ground to cover to his right and they hustle back for the second. England need 67 runs off 36 balls now.
Outside off and short, Will Jacks punches off the back foot to deep cover for a single.
Spins in on middle, full in length. Will Jacks gets across and tucks it behind square on the leg side for a couple of runs.
The googly, touch full on off. Will Jacks hangs back and across and nudges it gently to mid-wicket.
Too short and curving away, Jacob arches back a bit and carves it to deep point for a single.
Short and sliding across from over the wicket. Bethell reaches out and goes hard on the cut but ends up chopping it down off an inside edge on the pitch.

OUT! CAUGHT IN THE DEEP! Arshdeep breaks the threatening 67-run partnership and picks up his third wicket. Full and outside off. Banton gets under it, looking to go big inside out over the covers, but the timing lets him down, and he ends up chipping it off the toe end of the bat. Hits it flat and straight into Tilak Varma's hands, who takes it comfortably well inside the ropes at deep cover. England are 118/4, still needing 73 runs from 42 balls.
Angled onto the pads, on a length. Jacob misses to glance it away and the ball clips the thigh pad before trickling behind to the right of the keeper. They get a leg bye as Kishan moves across to pick the ball up. Excellent over so far from Arshdeep.
Hits the length hard, on the leg stump line, Jacob Bethell comes forward and backs away, but he is cramped up for space and drops it down the pitch.
WIDE! Arshdeep follows the batter and bowls it way down leg, on a fuller length. Jacob shuffles outside leg to flick it but misses. Ishan dives to grab the ball to his right. Wide called.
Wide full toss, outside off. Tom carves it away to deep backward point. Ravi Bishnoi almost makes a mess in trying to pick it up, but redeems himself quickly. Just a single.
BEATEN! At 131 kph, this is pushed across the batter, on a fractionally fuller length. Tom Banton does not move his feet at all and tries to hit it over the bowler, but the ball keeps leaving him and beats the outside edge.
Slower bumper, into the surface, angled across the batter. Banton just about prevents his temptation to play the pull shot.
Arshdeep Singh (2-0-28-2) returns to the attack with England needing 76 off 48.

Slightly fuller, around off, Banton forces it to mid off for a quick single. 92 runs needed off 55 balls.
Back of a length, outside off, Tom rides the bounce and stabs it to backward point.
FOUR! Quality shot from Banton! Off cutter, full on the stumps. Banton waits for the ball to arrive and lets it dip. He picks it up and whips it over mid-wicket for a boundary.
Hard length, slower one at 110 kph, on middle. Jacob Bethell waits on it and steers it to deep mid-wicket for a single.
Full and outside leg, Jacob Bethell misses the flick and the ball rolls off the front pad towards the vacant square leg region. They cross twice.
DRINKS BREAK! At halfway of the chase, England are 91/3. At the same stage, India were 96/2. Bethell and Banton have done well to build a resilient partnership, which is now worth 40 runs and more importantly, they have not taken any ungainly risks against the Indian spin trio so far. Finger spin is proving much more effective than wrist spin on this Old Trafford pitch, with bowlers getting more assistance off the surface than in the air. But the gears will need to shift soon, with the asking rate sitting bang on 10 an over and 100 needed off the last 10. Pace is back on with Harshit Rana. He replaces Axar Patel.

Missed out! Short and wide on off, there to be put away. Banton reaches out and slams it hard but straight to extra cover. Tom is keen for a single before being sent back. Shreyas Iyer is quick to release the throw towards the batting end. Ishan Kishan whips the bails off but Banton is in by then. Iyer seems to have pulled up something in his right leg and is down on the ground, grimacing in pain but soon gets back up on his feet.

Had to hurry! Sliding on with the angle, on a length, on middle and leg. Banton tucks it with soft hands in front of deep mid-wicket and the batters decide to come back for the second. Tilak Varma swoops in off the ropes and fires it on the bounce at the bowling end. Bethell gets home with the dive before the throw arrives.
Drags the length back now, on off and middle. Another reverse attempted by Tom and it goes over point. Arshdeep Singh gets around to his right in the deep and cuts it off. Two runs taken.
FOUR! Innovative and effective. Stays full, around the off stump. Banton brings out the reverse and connects well. Gets it away to the right of the short third fielder for a boundary.

Despite the wide, just 6 runs from the over so far. Can Axar finish off well?

Dropped a bit short, on the leg stump. Jacob Bethell plays off the back foot and tucks it wide of square leg for an easy single. Superb over from Patel. Just 4 runs and a big wicket of Brook from it. England need 138 runs from 90 balls.
Drifts one into the batter, full in length. Banton leans forward and clips it to the square leg region for a single to get off the mark.
Tom Banton comes out to the middle.
OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Axar ends Brook's fun and this is his 100th T20I wicket. That could be the killer blow. Slides down the leg stump line, on a fractionally fuller length. Harry Brook sits across to play the sweep shot, and the ball seems to have grazed his glove before nestling into the keeper's glove. Brilliant reaction from Kishan behind the stumps as he alertly moves to his left to gather the ball. A massive appeal for caught behind from Ishan but not given. In fact, the umpire opens his arms to signal a wide. This looks touch-and-go, really. Even before the technology loads up, the Indians begin to celebrate after watching the front-on replay. UltraEdge shows a clear spike when the ball is next to the glove. The on-field decision is overturned and this is a massive moment in the game. England are 51/3, chasing 191 runs.
Fires in a full toss, on the stumps, Bethell advances and drills it away to long on for a single. The 50-run partnership comes up between Brook and Bethell, with the captain being the heavy-lifter.
A touch fuller, on the leg stump. Jacob backs away and dabs it to the fielder at point.
Pushed through, full on the leg stump, from around the stump. Harry Brook shimmies down the track and hammers it on the bounce to long on for a single. 50 up for England in just 4.1 overs.

Shorter and quicker, on off. Brook taps it wide of cover from the crease and rotates the strike.
This is across the left-hander, on a good length. Bethell stabs it down on the leg side for a single.
Half a shout for LBW. Pushed through, full and around off. Bethell attempts the reverse but is beaten for pace and gets hit on the pads.

Full and wide outside off. Bethell leans on and drives it to the cover fielder. Dear me, it is a No Ball as Bishnoi has cut the return crease with his back leg. Free Hit loading.

SIX! Top effort by Patel, but it goes in vain. A low full toss, slanted in at the stumps from around the wicket. Brook picks it up and sends it toward deep backward square leg, where Axar runs to his left and takes the catch, but he couldn't stop his momentum from carrying him over the rope. He tries to flick the ball back in the playing area, but it lands right on the boundary cushion. 27 runs off the over, and Brook is in a punishing mood.
Is that a four or a six? Oh, that has landed on the boundary cushions on the full.
SIX! BROOK ON FIRE! A long half-volley from Singh, on off, swings in. Harry Brook balances himself nicely, gets the front leg out of the way and absolutely launches it down the ground for a massive six. He moves to 31 (11), in the score of 32.
SIX! Hit with ease and at will! Slightly back of a length, on off. Harry Brook weighs on the back foot and pulls it magnificently behind deep square leg. Clears the fence easily to pick up a six.
FOUR! Dismissed out of his presence! Length-delivery, outside off. Harry Brook goes back in the crease and disdainfully slaps it down the ground, to the right of mid off for a boundary. That was smacked so powerfully.
FOUR! Quick hands! Hard length, angling outside off. Brook backs away and hammers it a bit uppishly to the left of Ravi Bishnoi at backward point for a cracking boundary.

Spears in a fuller one on off, Brook watchfully blocks it back to Rana.
Good work by Dube! Short and on the stumps. Brook rides the bounce and pulls it along the ground to deep backward square leg. Shivam Dube runs across and puts his body behind the ball with a dive to his left and manages to cut it off. Saves two for his team.
FOUR! Audacious! Short of a length on top of off. Harry Brook steps out of the crease, backs away to give himself some room and carves it over backward point. One bounce and into the fence.
FOUR! That's the first boundary of the chase! Very full in search of swing, but it goes straight on the pads. Harry Brook comfortably flicks it into the square leg gap and finds the fence.
Starts off by lasering a pinpoint yorker that tails in a touch. Harry Brook is quick enough to drop the bat down and shovels it out.

Curving away, full and around the off stump. Bethell watchfully defends by coming forward.
England rocked early. Jacob Bethell makes his way out to the middle.
OUT! TAKEN! Double whammy from Arshdeep and India are on top. Singh swings it in on a fuller length, on middle and leg. Jos Buttler plays from the crease, and he actually nails the flick shot off the middle of the bat, but he cannot keep it along the ground and hits it uppishly towards mid-wicket. Varun Chakaravarthy leaps a bit and plucks it nicely over his head. Buttler walks back, hugely disappointed. England are 1/2, needing 190 runs from 115 balls.
Swing and bounce! Arshdeep generates a steep bounce off the surface, short and outside off. Buttler stands up on the toes, looking to punch it away, but the ball zips past the outside edge and swings in late as it sails back to the keeper.
Swing and a miss! At 132 kph, pushed outside off, on a good length. Jos Buttler feels for it, and goes for a back foot punch to the off side but he stays put and is not to the pitch of the ball. Gets beaten past the outside edge by a kitten-whisker.
Brook and England are off the mark! Inswinger, full on off. Brook presses forward and eases it in front of mid off for a single.
The captain of England, Harry Brook is in early.
OUT! EDGED AND CAUGHT! Picture-perfect start for India and Arshdeep. He bangs it short and angles it across the right-hander, generating an extra bit of bounce off the surface. Phil Salt stands tall and plays a half-hearted shot, trying to play the square cut on the off side. Gets a faint outside edge and Ishan Kishan does the rest behind the stumps. Up goes the finger on a confident appeal. Salt looks at the heavens with a wry smile as he goes for a golden duck. England are 0/1, chasing 191.

SIX!

OUT! TAKEN! Curran picks up his third wicket and England are really turning on the screws on India now. Fuller side of a length, around off, at pace. Ishan Kishan goes deep in the crease and tries to launch it over long off but the bat twists at the point of contact and the ball is sliced toward extra cover. A simple catching practice for Liam Dawson there. Kishan falls one short of his half century. India are 157/5, 16 balls left.
FOUR! Absolutely belted away! Full and outside off. Kishan moves towards the off side, sits on his back knee and smacks it over extra cover, finding the gap for a boundary.

OUT! STRAIGHT UP AND TAKEN! Curran caps off a brilliant over with a well-deserved wicket. This is fuller and outside the off stump. Dube gets on the front foot and tries to smack it down the ground, but ends up slicing it off the toe end. The ball spoons up over and between cover and mid off. Tom Banton moves a bit to his left, sees the ball like a hawk and takes a fine catch. Dube never really got going in his painfully short stay. India are 146/4, four overs left.
And again! No timing at all. Kishan is itching to get going. Back of a length, around off. Ishan hangs back and looks to pull, but gets an inside edge past the stumps to the right of the keeper for a single. So far, so good from Curran. 11 balls since the last boundary for India.
At 130 kph, short and outside off. Ishan stands tall to pull it across to the leg side, but ends up getting an inside edge, and the ball dribbles back to Buttler.
This is really good bowling by Curran! The back-of-the-hand slower one, on a length, into the body. Ishan Kishan swivels to pull but the ball pops behind off the thigh pad and rolls back to the keeper.
He was trying to dump that in the Theatre of Dreams which is under construction. Short of a length, outside off, Ishan Kishan swings hard to smash it down the ground, but the ball bounces and nips away to zip past the bat.

At 94 kph, speared in shorter and tucking the batter up for room. One hand comes off the bat handle and Ishan does not get the timing right on the pull. It goes through mid-wicket for only a single.

OUT! CAUGHT! Liam Dawson breaks through for England. This is slower and wider on off, on a good length. Iyer shimmies down the track to go inside out. There is a bit of turn, and Shreyas ends up slicing it off the outer half. Tom Banton charges across to his left at long off. Keeps his eyes on the ball all the way through and slides to take a fine catch.
Flat and full, outside off. Kishan advances and shanks it off the inner half to long on. Single taken.
A bit fuller but this is pushed through, on middle. Shreyas knocks it past the diving bowler to his left and gets to the other end.
SIX! All the way. Darted in by Dawson from around the wicket, not all that short, on middle. Iyer makes use of the depth of the crease and pulls it over the deep mid-wicket fence.
Drags the length back now, on off. Iyer hangs back and slaps it to the left of Phil Salt this time at sweeper cover for another brace.
Dawson spots Iyer stepping out and he bowls it full and wide on off, Shreyas reaches out and hits it to the right of deep cover for a couple of runs.
Change? Yup. Liam Dawson (2-0-15-0) returns into the attack. He replaces Adil Rashid.

Bowled on a back of a length, outside off at 141 kph. Iyer plays the late dab down to deep third and retains the strike with a single.
Very full, drifting in at the toes. Kishan flicks it in front of square on the leg side and crosses over.
Iyer is in some pain out there, as the ball jammed his fingers onto the handle. That really reared up on him. The physio is out in the middle as the Indian skipper shakes his hand, trying to work through the discomfort. A couple of Indian reserve players also converge and the on-field umpires are taking a close watch as well. The index finger of the right hand is now being taped up. And after taking a few sips of water, Iyer is set to resume.
Nasty blow. An effort ball by Tongue, on a hard length, over off. Iyer rises with the bounce to deal with it but the ball climbs onto him and catches him on the bottom hand. His fingers get trapped against the bat handle and he cops a painful blow. The ball drops beside the strip on the off side and he takes a quick single.
FOUR! Cleverly done. Another slower ball but this is bowled into the surface, on off. Iyer gets on his toes and arches back slightly to steer it with an open bat face. Plays it fine of the short third fielder and picks up a boundary. This brings up the 50-run partnership between Shreyas and Ishan.
Hit too straight. Pace off now, full and at the sticks. Kishan cracks the drive down the strip. It hits the stumps at the bowling end before dribbling behind. They cross.
Good running. Tongue nails the yorker, on middle from around the wicket. Ishan digs it out in the vacant mid-wicket region and comes charging back for the second run.
With eight wickets in hand, India will have designs of 220-230. Josh Tongue (2-0-25-0) is back on, replacing Sam Curran.

Flighted delivery, on middle, Ishan chips it down to long on for a single. 12 runs off the over.
FOUR! Hammered away. Drops it short, does Rashid, on off. Kishan waits for the ball to arrive and gets on top of the bounce before slapping it to the left of the cover fielder, beating long off to his right.
FOUR! Oh, Phil Salt nearly pulled off a blinder. Loopy ball, on middle. Ishan's eyes light up as he spots the ball above his eyeline. He gets down on a knee and plays the slog sweep towards the longer of the two square boundaries on the leg side. Phil Salt is in off the ropes and cannot back track quickly enough. He leaps and sticks out his hand, but can't cling on. The 100 is up for India with this boundary.
No air given, flatter and angled in at the pads. Iyer whips it to wide long on for just a single.
Dishes out the googly, on a length, on off. Kishan punches it through point and turns the strike over.
Pushed through, on a good length, on middle. Iyer steps out and pushes it to long off for a single.
DRINKS BREAK! A couple of good overs from England. While India have a solid platform in place, Nasser Hussain feels 220 would be a good score on what has turned out to be a two-paced surface. With Adil Rashid still having three overs left and Liam Dawson two, and a string of left-handers due to come, it will be interesting to see how Harry Brook manages his spinners in the second half of the innings. Speaking of Adil Rashid, here he is after the break. 1-0-9-0 are his bowling figures so far. He replaces Liam Dawson.

At pace now, short of a length, around off. Ishan stands up on his toes and shanks it to cover. Good little comeback by England. Just 13 runs off the last 2 overs. At halfway, India are 96/2.
Good deception from Curran! The slower one at 116 kph, on a good length, just outside off. Ishan Kishan tentatively dangles the bat away from his body, trying to punch it away to the off side, only to get beaten on the outside edge. He didn't pick the change of pace at all.
Bowls it short on the stumps, angling in. Iyer pulls it behind square on the leg side for a single.
Back of a length. Kishan rides the bounce and opens the bat face to steer it to backward point for a single.
FOUR! Nails it into the gap! Back of a length, outside off. Ishan Kishan swings hard at it, loses the grip of the bottom hand, but manages to crunch it to deep backward point. The fielder there, Dawson, has it within his reach to cut it off, but the ball blazes through the fence in the blink of an eye, even before he could take a step to his right.
Short at 131 kph, on middle and leg. Iyer gets a bit across and mistimes the pull shot. The ball comes higher on the bat due to the bounce, and he works it along the ground to the square leg region for a single.
Pace back on through Sam Curran. He went for 15 runs and picked up the wicket of Abhishek Sharma in his first over.

Beautifully bowled! A fuller-length ball with a hint of turn, Shreyas Iyer waits on it and dabs it between cover and point for a run. Just 6 singles off the over.
Flat and full, in the line of the stumps. Ishan swats it off the inner half to widish long on for a single.
Length ball on the off stump. 93 kph. Iyer works it to deep square leg for a run.
Two is the call, but Salt prevents it. Spins in from off, full in length. Ishan flicks it through mid-wicket. They run the first run hard, but decide not to challenge Salt's arm, who tears forward from the outfield.
Full from around the stumps, angling in. Iyer clips it off the pads to deep mid-wicket for one more.

Short and outside off. Ishan Kishan ferociously swats it to the left of the bowler for a single, to the right of long on.
Fractionally full on the stumps, Iyer uses the crease and works it to deep mid-wicket for another single.
A touch fuller, outside off, Ishan cuts it through point for a single.
Good length on the pads, Iyer clips it to square leg for a single.
FOUR! Timed and placed exceptionally well! Short again, flighted on the middle stump. Shreyas Iyer uses the depth of the crease and pulls it to the leg side, and manages to bisect the deep mid-wicket and long on fielders for a boundary.
A short leg break on the stumps. Kishan rocks back and steers it through mid-wicket for a run.

In-drifter on a length, on off. Iyer hangs back and punches it to extra cover.
FOUR! Gets it through! Fractionally short and equally wide on off. Iyer lets the ball come to him and cuts it late to thread the gap between short third and backward point. The Indian skipper picks up a boundary to get going.
Drops it short, on off and middle. Ishan presses back and whips it to long on for a single.

OUT! CAUGHT IN THE DEEP! Curran has the last laugh and ends Abhishek's fun. A low full toss that tails into the pads. Abhishek Sharma stays put and tries to whip it over deep mid-wicket, but hits it off the inner half of the bat and sails only as far as the fielder stationed in the deep. Tom Banton doesn't have to move an inch and takes a simple catch. India are 65/2 at the end of the Powerplay.
FOUR! Beats Archer to his right now! A long half-volley on middle and leg. Abhishek Sharma check-drives and holds the front elbow. Cracks the drive down the ground, and beats Archer at long on, this time to his right. Sharma moves to 43 (23).
FOUR! PUT AWAY! Short of a good length, on middle. Abhishek Sharma walks inside the line and pulls it over mid-wicket. Beats Jofra Archer's long chase to his left from long on. Abhishek is on the move.
Nips in from a length, on off with bounce. Ishan Kishan hops on the toes and cuts it through point for an easy single to open his account.
In the air... but drops safely! Fuller in length, around off, nipping away. Abhishek Sharma swings his bat hard to smoke it over the leg side, but gets a thick top edge and he manages to clear the in-field. The ball drops safely in the deep third region and Josh Tongue tidies up. Single.
WIDE! Curran goes short and wide outside off, Abhishek Sharma dangles his bat away from his body half-heartedly and misses to connect. The ball breaches the tramline. Wide called.
FOUR! Carted down the ground! Back of a length, on top of off. Abhishek Sharma stands tall and swats it over the fielder at mid on for a cracking boundary.
Double change? For sure. Sam Curran is into the attack, replacing Josh Tongue for the final Powerplay over.

Floated up, on the off stump. Ishan taps it to cover.
14 runs for Sooryavanshi on his international debut. Jacks spoils the party for him. Ishan Kishan is the new batter in at number 3.
OUT! STUMPED! The debutant's party is over. Will Jacks outfoxes the wonderkid. Perhaps Jacks anticipated Sooryavanshi giving him the charge, and hence, he pushes it through, flatter and shorter, outside off. Vaibhav advances and tries to force it through the off side, but fails to connect. Jos Buttler gathers the ball and whips the bails off in a flash. Sooryavanshi starts walking, but the umpires want to be sure. The third umpire is called into action, and the replays confirm that Vaibhav is short by a fair bit. End of a 50-run opening stand.
Umpire's review for stumping. The ball is fairly taken behind the stumps by Buttler, and Vaibhav is caught short of his crease as the stumps are broken.
Drifting in, on middle and leg, Sooryavanshi eases it to mid on.
Back to around the wicket, this is flatter and shorter, on middle. Abhishek swings at it but mistimes the lofted hit, but manages to clear the leaping bowler and pick up a single. The 50 is up for India.
FOUR! Back-to-back boundaries. Jacks switches to over the wicket and tosses it up now, on middle and leg. Sharma shimmies down the track to get to the pitch of the ball and slams it over cover for four more.
FOUR! Welcomed with a boundary. Starts with an off-break, full and on off, not much turn. Abhishek backs away, exposes all three stumps and goes inside out over extra cover.
10 from the first 2 overs. 31 from the next two for India to get them up and running. Spin is introduced as Will Jacks replaces Jofra Archer.

A run saved. Stays on the fuller side, on off. Abhishek gives himself a bit of room and forces the drive through covers. The ball slows down in the outfield. Will Jacks gives chase and slides to flick the ball behind towards his teammate, who mops it up. Three runs taken.
SIX! Launched down the ground. Tongue changes his angle of attack as he comes from around the wicket now. Goes searching for the yorker but ends up serving it right in the slot in line with the off stump. Abhishek clears his front leg, gets under the ball and pumps it over mid off for a biggie.
Does not connect this time. The length is pulled back a bit by Tongue, near the tramline, on off. Abhishek throws his hands at the ball but the ball is not short enough for the shot and it goes under the blade.
FOUR! That nearly went the distance. Angling away, on a length. Abhishek stays deep in the crease and makes use of the angle to carve it over point. One bounce and over the ropes.
Leg bye! Switches to over the wicket and this is on a good length, on middle. Sooryavanshi clears the front leg and has a swipe across the line. Gets hit high on the back thigh and a leg bye is taken as the ball goes wide of cover.
SIX! Clean as a whistle. Tongue dishes out the slower one at 117 kph, on a length, angled in, on middle. Sooryavanshi needs no second invitation as he puts his head down and clobbers it over mid-wicket for half a dozen.

FOUR! Nearly sneaked through. A puzzled look on the face of Archer. He was the only one to go up in an appeal as he thought that it went off the pad. Spears in a pinpoint yorker, on middle. Abhishek gets his bat down to keep it out. Gets an inside edge and it races past short fine leg for a four.
At 148 kph, on a hard length, on off. Abhishek flays at it to go up and over cover but is beaten for pace.
Not allowing the batter to free his arms. On a good length, landing outside the line of the leg stump. Abhishek makes room to go over the off side but cannot connect.
Jofra nails the yorker, on middle. Sooryavanshi jams it out to the left of mid off and hurries to the other end.
A proper fast bowler's response. Archer dishes out the short ball, over middle and leg. Sooryavanshi swings across for the pull but is beaten for pace and the ball also gets big on him to go over the blade.
SIX! Dumped into the stands. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi greets his IPL teammate with a six. Archer spots Sooryavanshi backing away, and he follows him with a length ball. Vaibhav crouches and helps it over long leg by using the pace.

Another swing and a miss. We have had quite a few of these already in the first couple of overs. Tongue keeps it away from the batter's arc, near the tramline on off, on a good length. Abhishek flashes but can only connect with thin air.
From around the wicket, out comes the slower one at 121 kph, tucking the batter up for room. Abhishek can only pat it down the strip.
Hits the back of a length, going away. Abhishek has a heave across the line but is beaten as the ball goes under the blade.
Oh, that could have gone back onto the stumps. Nails the yorker, does Tongue, on off. Vaibhav hurriedly drops his bat down on the ball. Squeezes out an inside edge and it goes behind on the leg side for a single. First run in international cricket for Sooryavanshi.
FIVE WIDES! That should have been stopped. Tongue pushes the length up but gets the line wrong. This is too straight, around leg. Sooryavanshi crouches and gets inside the line to shovel it away but misses. Jos Buttler moves to his right but can't get his body behind the ball. It clips his gloves and goes down to the deep fine leg fence.
Beaten for pace and bounce again. Dug in short, over the left shoulder. Sooryavanshi has a swing across the line as he tries to take the short ball on but it sails over his willow.
Tongue starts with a hard-length delivery at 140 kph, around off. Not that wide for the cut but Sooryavanshi arches back and throws his hands at the ball but fails to lay any bat on it.
That last ball would have woken Abhishek up. Tidy start for Archer. So, debutant vs debutant from the other end. Josh Tongue will share the attack. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is all set to face his first ball in international cricket.

An absolute snorter by Archer. Bowled at 141 kph, a sharp short ball, aimed at the batter. Abhishek hops as he tries to fend it down but is rushed and the ball climbs onto him. Sharma stabs it down off an inside edge beside the strip on the leg side.
Beaten again. Closer to the off stump, on a nagging length. Sharma tries to use the pace this time by opening the bat face but misses.
Goes past the bat! Archer drags the length back and once again, it leaves the left-hander with the angle. Abhishek stays put and throws the kitchen sink at it, only to connect with thin air.
FOUR! On the third time of asking, Abhishek Sharma gets it away rather streakily. This is fuller in length, angling away. Sharma does not move his feet at all and flashes hard at the ball. One hand comes off the bat handle. The ball flies off a thickish outside edge over short third for the first four of the contest.
And again! Archer bends his back and bashes the hard length, on off. Abhishek hangs back and throws his hands at the ball but it sails over the flailing blade.
A swing and a miss! At 141 kph steaming in from over the wicket. This is on a length, pushed across the left-hander. It moves away in the air and Abhishek swings at it but is beaten on the outside edge.
Righto, it's game time in Manchester. The two umpires make their way to the middle. Harry Brook leads his troops out as the players of England spread across the park. And spring out the two Indian openers in the form of Abhishek Sharma and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. Will the teenage sensation take the strike? Nope. It is Abhishek who will face the first ball. Jofra Archer has the new ball and is raring to go. There is a slip in place. 3... 2... 1... and here we go! Aah, not yet. The sightscreen issue again pops up right before the first ball. It is instantly resolved and here goes Archer...
Live visuals show that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is out in the middle, going through his batting warm-up. He walks back into the dugout now after taking a few throwdowns. Over on the sidelines, Abhishek Sharma is going through his usual ball-knocking drill, working on his hand-eye coordination. India are going with five left-handers in the top six, with only captain Shreyas Iyer the lone right-handed batter. England bring back both their Test returnees, Jofra Archer and Josh Tongue, giving their pace attack extra fire and bounce. That sets up a mouth-watering contest between Archer and Sooryavanshi right from the start. First ball just a couple of minutes away. Stay tuned.
India (Playing XI) - Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (On T20I debut) (In for Sanju Samson), Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan (WK), Shreyas Iyer (C), Tilak Varma, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Harshit Rana, Ravi Bishnoi, Arshdeep Singh and Varun Chakaravarthy.
England (Playing XI) - Phil Salt, Jos Buttler (WK), Harry Brook (C), Jacob Bethell, Tom Banton, Sam Curran, Will Jacks, Liam Dawson, Jofra Archer (In for Luke Wood), Adil Rashid and Josh Tongue (On T20I debut) (In for Saqib Mahmood).
The skipper of England - Harry Brook says that they would have batted first as well. Mentions that the side is looking forward to getting out there and is pleased with the XI they have picked. On Josh Tongue's inclusion, Brook says the seamer has been knocking on the door for a while. He adds that both Tongue and Jofra Archer are highly skilful bowlers, and having two genuinely quick bowlers in the attack is a big boost. Asked about the plans for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Brook says that they have done their homework and now it is all about executing those plans out in the middle.
The captain of India - Shreyas Iyer, on the team changes, first informs that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi comes in for Sanju Samson. Adds that the way he has been batting by taking on the best bowlers of the world, he says it will be exciting to watch. On whether there was added pressure in picking him, he says not really, and adds that he deserves to be in the squad and does not take pressure at all. He says he has that unflinching nature, is very well aware of what is to come in these matches and carries a calm demeanour. He adds that the way he bats in the nets and takes on bowlers shows what kind of player he is. On Samson missing out of the XI, he says the amount of talent India produces is pleasing to the eye and keeps everyone on their toes, adding that pressure is a privilege.
TOSS - Time for the coin to go up in Manchester. It is an overcast and incredibly blustery afternoon, so much so that Shreyas Iyer can barely keep hold of his cap as the wind sends it flying. No trouble with the toss, though. Shreyas calls correctly, and India elect to BAT first.
Debut for the wonderkid - The moment has finally arrived. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has received his maiden India cap in the team huddle by Tilak Varma. A warm embrace from his teammates follows a few words of wisdom from the Indian vice-captain. At 15 years and 99 days, Vaibhav becomes India's youngest men's international debutant, surpassing the long-standing record of Sachin Tendulkar, who made his Test debut against Pakistan on 15th November 1989, at the age of 16 years and 205 days.
White-ball debut beckons - Cap presentation time in the England huddle as Jofra Archer hands Josh Tongue his maiden T20I cap. Tongue has already represented England in 12 Tests, but tonight marks his first foray into international white-ball cricket as he prepares to make his T20I debut.
A pace revamp - England announced their playing XI on the eve of the match, revealing a different-looking pace attack from the one that featured at Chester-le-Street. Saqib Mahmood and Luke Wood make way for Jofra Archer and Josh Tongue, with Tongue making his T20I debut. The last time England played a T20I at Old Trafford, the record books took a pounding. England smashed their highest-ever T20I total of 304 against South Africa, the third-highest total in men's T20Is, with Phil Salt producing a scintillating unbeaten 141. With both teams boasting plenty of firepower, another run-fest might just be in store if the rain stays away.
Plot twist? The teams have arrived at the ground, and pictures circulating on social media of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi going through his visualisation routine have only added fuel to the speculation. Could that be a hint of what's to come? We won't have to wait much longer for the answer.
Boom or bust - That has largely been the story of Sanju Samson's international career. The wicketkeeper-batter has continued to oscillate between the spectacular and the ordinary, managing just 6 runs across his last 3 T20I innings. Naturally, the calls for 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to be handed a debut have grown louder. However, if the bowling coach Morne Morkel's press conference on the eve of the match is anything to go by, India are likely to resist making any changes at the top.
Greetings, all - The caravan has shifted from Chester-le-Street to Manchester for the second of five T20Is between England and India. It has already been a damp start to the series, and the rain seems to have followed the teams to Old Trafford. We could well be in for a stop-start few hours ahead of us, but let's hope for the best.
.... MATCH DAY ....
A fresh start in Manchester - The five-match T20I series moves to Old Trafford with everything still to play for after rain denied fans a result in the opener. India had done enough with the bat to feel confident before the weather intervened, while England were left frustrated at not getting the opportunity to test themselves in a chase of 190. With the series still locked at 0-0, both sides now head to Manchester knowing a victory could set the tone for the remainder of what promises to be a fiercely contested contest. India searching for consistency - India may be the reigning T20 World Champions, but they arrive in Manchester looking to rediscover the consistency that has defined their white-ball success in recent years. The surprise 2-0 defeat to Ireland exposed a few cracks, particularly in the batting order's ability to recover from early setbacks and the bowling unit's execution in key moments. Under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer, the visitors will be determined to show that result was merely a blip rather than the beginning of a trend. Batting packed with match-winners - There is, however, no shortage of firepower on this Indian side. The batting unit boasts incredible depth, highlighted by Ishan Kishan recently climbing to the No. 1 spot in the ICC Men's T20I batting rankings, overtaking teammate Abhishek Sharma, who had occupied the summit for much of the past year. That shift is a testament to the quality India possesses at the top. Abhishek remains one of the most destructive Powerplay batters in world cricket, while Sanju Samson, Tilak Varma, Shreyas Iyer and Shivam Dube provide the perfect blend of stability and explosiveness through the middle order. Add the anticipation surrounding teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's potential international debut, and India's batting line-up looks as formidable as any in world cricket. Variety with the ball - The bowling attack remains equally threatening. Arshdeep Singh continues to be one of the finest death bowlers in the format, Varun Chakaravarthy has become India's go-to wicket-taking spinner in the middle overs, while Harshit Rana and Ravi Bishnoi offer pace and spin options capable of unsettling any batting line-up. Prince Yadav also showed his potential on his debut against the Irish with a three-fer and will relish English conditions. England eye history - England have long been one of the most feared T20 sides in world cricket, boasting a batting line-up capable of chasing almost any total. Yet one statistic continues to elude them - they are still searching for their first-ever bilateral multi-match T20I series victory over India. Playing at home, Harry Brook's side will believe this is one of their best opportunities to finally end that wait. Power hitters galore - The hosts possess enviable depth with the bat. Phil Salt's fearless approach at the top, Jos Buttler's ability to dominate spin and pace alike, Brook's elegance in the middle order and the all-round power of Will Jacks and Jacob Bethell make England dangerous throughout the innings. If they can string together partnerships rather than relying on individual brilliance, England have the firepower to put any bowling attack under pressure. Can the bowlers deliver? Bowling, though, remains an area where England will seek greater consistency. Saqib Mahmood has impressed with the new ball whenever fit. Adil Rashid remains among the world's premier T20 leg-spinners, while Sam Curran's variations and Luke Wood's pace provide valuable options across different phases. Their challenge will be containing India's aggressive batting unit from the outset rather than allowing them to dictate the tempo. History favours the visitors - India have held the upper hand in this rivalry, leading the head-to-head record 18-12 in T20Is. While England have produced some memorable victories over the years, they have struggled to consistently get the better of the Men in Blue. Playing in home conditions, the hosts will be eager to narrow that gap, while India will look to further strengthen their dominance in one of cricket's most exciting rivalries. Conditions could play a part - Old Trafford has often provided a balanced contest in T20 cricket. The new ball can offer a bit of movement for the seamers, particularly under overcast skies, before the pitch settles into a good batting surface where stroke-makers can cash in. As the game progresses, the slower bowlers are also expected to come into play, making variation and smart execution just as important as outright pace. The weather, however, could once again become a talking point. Forecasts suggest there is a chance of showers around Manchester, raising the possibility of another rain interruption. Both teams, and the fans alike, will be hoping the clouds stay away long enough for a full contest. But even if the weather has the final say, a shortened game would still be enough to produce a result and ensure this eagerly anticipated series finally gets underway. Team form (Last 5 completed T20Is, recent first) - ENG - LWWWW | IND - LLWWW. Who takes the early advantage? The opening game offered only a glimpse of what these two talented sides can produce before the rain arrived. Now, with the series finally ready to come alive, India will look to reaffirm their status as the world champions, while England chases a long-awaited milestone on home soil. With power-packed batting line-ups, varied bowling attacks and plenty of match-winners on both sides, Old Trafford is set for another captivating night of T20 cricket

H Rana3-0-30-1

R Bishnoi4-0-60-0
