Commentary

Signing off - A double-header awaits us on Thursday, June 25. First up, India take on Bangladesh in Manchester at 1.30 pm GMT, before the Netherlands face South Africa in Bristol at 5.30 pm GMT. With Australia all but through to the semifinals, both matches could prove pivotal in shaping the race for the second qualification spot from the group, with India, South Africa and Bangladesh all still in contention. As always, you can join us earlier for the build-up. Until then, take care and goodbye.

The captain of England Women - Charlie Dean says that she is feeling really great, having qualified for the semi-finals. Adds that the batters did their job really well, starting from Danni Wyatt-Hodge to Alice Capsey to Heather Knight, everyone played their role. On her bowling performance, she comments that she is never satisfied with her performance because she always feels she can do better. About the dropped catches, she thinks that the fielding is not an issue. She backs her teammates and praises them for putting up a great shift on a hot, sunny day. On Nat Sciver-Brunt's fitness, Dean says she does not have any update to share at the moment, but she hopes Nat is back in the playing XI soon.

The skipper of West Indies Women - Hayley Matthews says it was extremely hot out in the middle, but does not believe choosing to bowl first was the wrong decision. She feels England started well with the bat and admits her side missed their lengths at key moments. More than anything, though, she believes West Indies let themselves down in the field. On playing at Lord's, Matthews says it was a special occasion, noting that for some players it is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play at such a historic venue. Speaking about her caught-behind dismissal, she says she did hear a noise but does not believe she hit the ball. Feels there was a gap between bat and ball on the replays, but adds that the umpire's decision has to be respected and accepted. Matthews also provides an update on Stafanie Taylor, sharing that Taylor experienced chest tightness and difficulty in breathing. That forced her to leave the field during England's innings, and she was subsequently unable to bat.

Let's hear from the captains...

Earlier in the day - Hayley Matthews opted to bowl first, but her side could not execute their plans with the ball as well as they would have liked. Against a deep England batting line-up, it was important to keep chipping away with wickets to contain the scoring, but that never quite materialised. England received valuable contributions throughout the order. Danni Wyatt-Hodge, Alice Capsey and Heather Knight were among the runs as the hosts powered their way to 186.

A chase that never took off - Unlike the West Indies pacers, who were a bit too short early on, England's new-ball attack hit their straps straight away. Hayley Matthews fell to a contentious caught-behind decision, while Deandra Dottin briefly threatened to kickstart the chase but could not last long enough to make a decisive impact. After her departure, the innings hit a roadblock as England's bowlers maintained their discipline through the middle overs and gradually pushed the target out of reach. Chinelle Henry's maiden T20I fifty helped reduce the margin of defeat, which could yet prove important should net run rate come into play in deciding the final semifinal spot from this group.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH - Danni Wyatt-Hodge has been given the award for her entertaining knock of 65 runs from 42 balls. On being asked about the reason behind her exceptional performance, she says that she just came out expressing herself. Adds that she tried to play correct shots and it worked very well for her. Mentions that she always tries to pick up the gaps. About the weather, she says that it was a very hot day, similar to what they experienced in Dubai a couple of years back. She says they batted really well and came out all guns blazing. On her run-out dismissal, she says that they will talk about it before the next game so that they can avoid such incidents in the upcoming matches.

Qualification secured - A fourth straight win seals a semifinal berth for England, who become the first team to book their place in the last four. Among the pre-tournament favourites, the tournament hosts have certainly lived up to expectations so far. As for West Indies, their fate remains in their own hands despite this defeat. Victory over Ireland in their final group-stage fixture will be enough to secure a semifinal spot.

England have done it! They continue their unbeaten run, winning this clash against West Indies by 38 runs. England Women are into the semi-finals. Short of a length, on off, Henry hangs back and slaps it towards the bowler. Smith does well to dive to her left and makes a very good stop.

Commentary

Welcome back for West Indies' reply with the bat. The two umpires and players head out to the middle. Hayley Matthews and Deandra Dottin will open for the Windies. Lauren Bell has the new ball in hand. Matthews is on strike. Here we go...

... THE RUN CHASE ...

Looking ahead - It will take a record Women's T20 World Cup chase if West Indies are to pull this off. Their batting has not quite fired on all cylinders so far in the tournament, and they will need their best performance yet with the bat to track down 187. A place in the semifinals is up for grabs, and the Women in Maroon know a special effort will be required to get there. Stick around as the chase is coming up shortly...

Dinesh Karthik is pitchside - He says the surface remains a very good one for batting. Dinesh notes that the weather has started to cool down and that the surface has not changed much since the first innings. Mentions that the West Indies have opted for the heavy roller, and Karthik reckons England have posted a total that is around 10-15 runs above par.

A quick word - Heather Knight starts off by saying that she had a brilliant partnership with Danni Wyatt-Hodge to keep the scoreboard ticking. She says that the track looks good to bat on, but the ball is slightly holding onto the pitch. About playing at Lord's, she says that the place is very unique due to its conditions and is super special to play in a venue like this. Knight believes that attacking the stumps is the way to go on this track.

Contributions across the board - Having opted to bowl first, West Indies were a bit too short early on as they struggled to adjust to the Lord's slope. England lost a couple of wickets in the Powerplay but still managed 57 runs. From there, the hosts accelerated through the middle phase, with Danni Wyatt-Hodge and Heather Knight leading the charge and ensuring England never lost momentum. West Indies did not help their cause with an inconsistent showing with the ball, while a costly dropped chance on 14 allowed Knight to make them pay.

A solid batting effort from England - The tournament hosts kept the scoreboard ticking throughout the innings. They scored 86 in the first 10 overs and then built impressively on that platform, adding 100 runs in the second half of the innings. West Indies never really managed to build a sustained period of pressure. The visitors now have it all to do with the bat if they are to secure a semifinal berth.

FOUR! That's an excellent shot to close things off. England Women finish with 186/7. Fuller delivery, on the leg stump. Sophie Ecclestone predetermines and shuffles across the stumps to sweep it away past the short fine leg fielder for four runs.

Sophie Ecclestone walks out to bat.

19.5W

OUT! TAKEN! Danielle Gibson falls. Ashmini Munisar bowls it on a nagging length, pitching it on leg and shaping away from the batter. Gibson opens her stance and tries to heave it across the line, but catches the top edge and it loops straight to Aaliyah Alleyne in the cover-point region, who makes no mistake to pouch it safely.

19.41

Much fuller, on off, Charlie Dean dills it to mid off for a single.

19.34

FOUR! Oh, a cheeky little shot from the English skipper. Another good-length delivery, on leg. Charlie Dean plays the reverse again, wide of backward point for four more.

19.24

FOUR! Nicely played! Good-length delivery, outside off, Charlie Dean brings out the reverse and hits it away between backward point and point for four runs.

19.11lb

Leg bye! Fired in at the pads, on a length. Gibson goes for the sweep but fails to lay any bat on it. A leg bye is taken as the ball goes behind off the pads.

Ashmini Munisar to close out the innings. England's stand-in skipper, Charlie Dean is the new batter, but it will be Danielle Gibson on strike at the start of the over.

OUT! HEATHER KNIGHT IS RUN OUT! Quick reaction from Shemaine Campbelle and England lose their 6th wicket. Slower once again, on the fuller side, just outside off. Heather Knight tries to slog sweep it, but gets deceived due to the lack of pace and wears it on the pads. The ball rolls to the off side and Knight wants to take a run, but is sent back. Shemaine Campbelle gets to the ball and scores a direct hit at the batter's end to catch Heather short of her crease.

18.51

Alleyne spills out a low full toss, outside off, Danielle Gibson drills it to wide long off for a single.

18.41

A slower one now, on a good length, just outside off. Heather Knight pulls it down to deep square leg for one.

18.34

FOUR! Lovely shot! Bowled on a length, on off and middle. Despite the keeper being up to the stumps. Knight dances down the track and extends her hands into the lofted drive. Plays it over wide mid off for the second boundary of the over.

18.20

Indecision! Angled into the pads, a full toss. Knight has a swipe across the line but fails to connect. The ball hits her on the pads and rolls down the strip. Knight wants to sneak in a leg bye, but Shemaine Campbelle gets to the ball quickly. A bit of indecision on the part of Campbelle, who cannot make up her mind as to which end to throw the ball. Ends up holding onto the ball and Knight retreats.

18.14

FOUR! Clever batting! Pace taken off, very full, wide on off. Knight walks across the stumps and initially shapes up to drag the sweep on the leg side. She makes a late adjustment as she opens the bat face and guides it past short third to pick up a boundary.

She tries to access the area behind square leg with the sweep. The ball catches her on the gloves and deflects onto the leg stump. 'Stay there' is the call from Hayley Matthews to her fielders.

The disappointment is evident on the face of Wyatt-Hodge as she trudges off.

DROPPED! A chance goes begging. This is a fuller delivery from Fletcher, around off, Heather Knight tries to go inside out over cover, but ends up getting the connection from the toe end of the bat. The ball loops just to the right of Hayley Matthews, who takes a small leap to reverse scoop the catch, but spills it out. Then she fires a throw at the bowler's end, but fails to hit the stumps directly. There is no fielder to back the throw up and the batter gets an easy single.

A run saved. Tossed up, full and on off. Knight reaches out in front and tries to go inside out. It goes off an inside edge past short third. Karishma Ramharack gives it a long chase and puts in a dive to flick the ball away from the fence. Her knee gets stuck in the turf but she manages to prevent the boundary. Three runs taken.

DRINKS BREAK! The only way to contain this England batting line-up, which bats deep, is by taking wickets, and West Indies have not managed to do that. They have also been inconsistent with the ball, allowing England to keep the scoreboard ticking over. As a result, the platform has been set nicely for the hosts, who still have plenty of firepower left in the shed and will be eyeing a strong finish to the innings. Afy Fletcher to bowl after the break. 2-0-17-0 so far for the leggie.

Done with the national anthems, and it is time to get the game underway. It is a scorching evening in London, with about 17,000 tickets sold for this contest, informs Ian Bishop. Despite the heat, there is a decent turnout already. It is a moment of pride for Hayley Matthews as she leads her side out for what is West Indies Women's first-ever match at Lord's. Amy Jones and Danni Wyatt-Hodge are the two openers for England. Chinelle Henry will kickstart proceedings with the new ball. Jones is on strike. A slip in place. Here we go...

We are moments away from the first ball, but before that, it is time for the national anthems. The giant flags of both nations have been unfurled. It will be the anthem of West Indies first, followed by the national anthem of England.

Who's next? Karishma Ramharack of West Indies is up for chat as well. She starts by saying that they came here at Lord's yesterday, and they were pretty emotional as they wished to play on this ground from their childhood. About her personal performances so far in the campaign, Karishma says she sets high standards for herself and is always striving to be at her best. Reflecting on the memories of beating England at the 2024 World Cup, she describes it as a huge source of motivation for the team and says they are looking forward to another strong performance as they aim to book their place in the semifinals.

A quick word - England's Alice Capsey says that they are happy to win three out of three matches, but also says that they are focused on beating the Windies and continuing their momentum. He also adds that they have learned a lot from the earlier matches, and they are working hard to get better. Capsey mentions that the pitches here have been recently on the slower side, with a tennis ball kind of bounce. She believes batters need to be smart and adapt their approach according to the dimensions of the ground. Alice finishes by saying that while she has played at Lord's before, featuring in a World Cup match at the iconic venue is a completely different feeling.

PITCH REPORT - Dinesh Karthik points out that it is the hottest June day ever recorded in this part of the world, with temperatures reaching 33 degrees Celsius. He highlights the dimensions of the ground, with the straight boundary measuring 71 metres and the square boundaries 65 and 58 metres respectively. Carlos Brathwaite observes that the pitch looks dry and expects it to deteriorate as the match progresses. He also admits to being a bit perplexed by West Indies' decision to bowl first, given the conditions on offer. However, he feels the visitors are backing themselves to chase and may also be keen to make first use of the surface, especially given the uncertainty surrounding Lord's pitches in recent times.

West Indies Women (Unchanged Playing XI) - Deandra Dottin, Hayley Matthews (C), Shemaine Campbelle (WK), Stafanie Taylor, Jahzara Claxton, Chinelle Henry, Jannillea Glasgow, Aaliyah Alleyne, Afy Fletcher, Ashmini Munisar and Karishma Ramharack.

England Women (Unchanged Playing XI) - Danni Wyatt-Hodge, Amy Jones (WK), Sophia Dunkley, Alice Capsey, Heather Knight, Freya Kemp, Danielle Gibson, Charlie Dean (C), Sophie Ecclestone, Linsey Smith and Lauren Bell.

The skipper of England Women - Charlie Dean says that they would have bowled first as well, but her side is ready to adapt and focus on posting a good total on the board. Mentions that captaincy is something you get into a routine with over time. Dean shares that she is looking forward to having another go at it and credits the support she has received from the rest of the squad. Informs that they are unchanged for this game.

The captain of West Indies Women - Hayley Matthews starts off by saying that the wicket looks fresh, and for that reason, they want to bowl first. On being asked about playing the first game as a team here at Lord's, she replies that the stadium has a very rich history, and they are very happy to play here. Mentions that they would prefer these warm conditions over cooler weather. Ends by saying that they have no changes in the playing XI.

TOSS - Still no Nat Sciver-Brunt as she is yet to recover from a calf strain. Charlie Dean continues to lead England in her absence. Hayley Matthews calls it correctly, and West Indies will BOWL first.

What's at stake? A win for either side will secure a semifinal berth. However, the losing team will need to win their final group stage match to confirm their qualification. England will look to lean on home advantage and a batting line-up that has already rewritten record books in this tournament. West Indies, though, have shown in three matches that they do not need the conditions or the crowd, but just each other. So, which side are you rooting for? Toss and team updates to follow…

The Windies' arsenal - On the other side, West Indies carry weaponry that makes even the most battle-hardened defences uneasy. Aaliyah Alleyne's 4 for 27 against defending champions New Zealand in their tournament opener was a spell that tore through their top order. Captain Hayley Matthews has now taken three wickets in each of her last two outings, finishing with 3/15 against the Lankans, which was also the Windies' latest clash. With 7 wickets from 3 games, Matthews walks into Lord's as one of the tournament's most potent bowling threats.

The numbers game - England's 219/1 against Sri Lanka in the opening match of the tournament stands as the joint-highest score in the tournament's history. They are the only team to post two totals of 200 or more in this World Cup and sit atop Group B with a better run rate compared to the West Indies. Their top batter is no doubt Danni Wyatt-Hodge, who has accumulated 128 runs in three innings and also scored the tournament's first century just days after becoming a mother. Currently, she is placed sixth for the most runs in this World Cup campaign, but she has the calibre to be at the top.

Lord's lights up - Cricket's most storied address is finally getting its moment in this Women's T20 World Cup. Lord's, the ground that has watched empires built and legends born across centuries of the game, hosts its first game of this competition, which will host three more matches, including the final. Ladies and gentlemen, here we are presenting you a riveting contest between the two giants, the West Indies and England.

... MATCH DAY ...

Unbeaten, unshaken, unconquered - That’s what these two teams would be feeling with the tournament well past the midpoint of the league stage. The ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 rolls into its most glamorous address yet, and it has saved something special for the occasion. Lord's, the Home of Cricket, hosts its first match of this global event, and the two teams walking through those famous gates are the ones nobody has beaten yet. England Women on one side. West Indies Women, on the other hand. Both undefeated and dangerous, being absolutely convinced this is their tournament to win. As it stands in Group B - Both teams have almost, almost booked their semifinal berths with three back-to-back commanding victories. But one of those winning streaks ends here. Sitting at six points each, England and West Indies have a two-point buffer over the rest of the group, with New Zealand and Sri Lanka being the closest sides in the rearview mirror but still a bit distant to pose any real threat to either position. However, nothing can be ruled out, so winning is nothing but the ultimate goal here. Nah easy ting between these two - Basseterre - 2010 | Sylhet - 2014 | Gros Islet - 2018 | Dubai - 2024 | Four times in seven meetings at the Women's T20 World Cup, West Indies have gotten the better of England. Four wins, three losses in this fixture across the history of the competition. Dharamsala - 2016 | Sydney - 2020 | Paarl - 2023 | England, though, have their own dates to point to. Three times they came out on top against this very opponent in the same tournament. So with the head-to-head at 4-3, neither side has had it all their own way in this rivalry. That much is clear. However, further magnifying into this rivalry shows that on English soil, the women from the Caribbean have not quite had a good time. The last time they defeated England in England was way back in 2012, and that’s their solitary win against these opponents on their home soil, with the hosts leading by 13-1, absolutely one-sided. Working in sync - England have been ruthless across all departments in this tournament. And when the top order has struggled, the middle order has stepped up without fuss. The results speak for themselves. Two of the three 200-plus scores in this World Cup belong to England, both coming while batting first. Australia are the only other side to have crossed that mark. With the bat, Danni Wyatt-Hodge has set the tone. Her century is the only one in this tournament so far. Behind her, captain Nat Sciver-Brunt has been the next most prolific with 94 runs. Amy Jones and Sophia Dunkley have added fifties, and Heather Knight and Alice Capsey have chipped in too. Contributions have come from top to bottom, and that is what has made England's batting so difficult to contain. With the ball too, England have been near-perfect. Seven wickets in the Powerplay across three matches, with someone stepping up each time to make early inroads. One concern heading into the tournament was Sophie Ecclestone's form, with batters either playing her out safely or the wickets not coming as regularly as they once did. But those worries have been put to rest. Ecclestone leads the bowling charts with seven wickets, with a solid backing from the others, be it pacers or spinners. Experience holds the key - After edging past New Zealand in a game that went right down to the wire, West Indies have only gotten better since. Two reasons for that. Chinelle Henry and Stefanie Taylor have returned to the side, and their arrival has done more than just strengthen the batting. It has brought genuine balance to the middle order with an extra bowling option thrown in too. Hayley Matthews holds the top order together and leads the bowling unit, making West Indies, on paper, a genuine side to beat. She has been a touch quiet with the bat, but has more than made up for it with the ball, picking up seven wickets so far. Aaliyah Alleyne, though, has gone one better than her skipper, and in doing so, has proven that she belongs at this level. The biggest stage, and she has taken it on being West Indies' leading wicket-taker in the tournament so far. And this is a group of death, do not forget that, with as many as four teams with a real shot at making it through to the next stage. And having vastly experienced players like Dottin, Matthews herself, Henry and Taylor in their ranks, this is a side that has seen it all. Big tournaments, big moments, big pressure. None of that is new to them. Now they bring all of that to Lord's, mixing veteran know-how with fresh legs, for what could be their stiffest test of the tournament against an England side that has steamrolled everything in its path. Team form (Last 5 completed T20Is, recent first) - ENG-W - WWWWW | WI-W - WWWLW. A blockbuster in the making - It’s that time of the T20 World Cup when the calculators are out in full swing. But for these two sides, there is still some breathing room. But a defeat here will definitely put a huge amount of pressure to win at least one of their last two league matches. England have a spotless record at Lord's, winning all three of their matches here, in 2009 (the Final vs New Zealand), 2023, and 2024. Whereas for West Indies, they have never played a single T20I at this venue and would want to make a statement here to push the hosts to their limits.
