OUT! CAUGHT! An innocuous delivery, but it fetches Mohammad Saleem his maiden ODI wicket. Yashasvi Jaiswal cannot believe his luck. It is short and wide again, Jaiswal hops and reaches out to slap it away. The ball comes on slower than he expected, and Jaiswal does not get the timing right. Hits it to backward point, where Nangeyalia Kharote jumps and gets both hands to his right. The ball pops out, but Kharote takes it on the second attempt.

FOUR! Banged away! Saleem errs in both line and length. Short and wide on off, there to be put away. Jaiswal stands tall and slaps it to the left of backward point for a boundary.

PITCH REPORT - Deep Dasgupta and Graeme Swann are near the deck. Deep starts by informing that the pitch is a mix of black and red soil. He observes that the surface is a little patchy in places. Graeme points out that the ground staff have only just removed the covers from the strip and were understandably concerned about the sun baking the pitch too much. Swann feels the pitch could slow up as the game progresses and says that, given the conditions, he would have no hesitation in batting first. However, Deep holds a different view. He reckons the surface could become better for batting under lights and feels bowling first is the way to go. 

Debut alert - Prince Yadav has been handed his maiden ODI cap by Shreyas Iyer in the Indian huddle. The right-arm quick impressed with 16 wickets in 14 games for the Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2026. With Lucknow being his home ground during the IPL, that familiarity with the conditions could help ease some of the nerves that naturally come when making an international debut.
