Commentary

Right then, it's a wrap from this high-octane clash where India has clinically defeated Bangladesh and have disrupted their campaign and have leapfrogged as the table toppers in Group 1 with back-to-back wins. India will now head to Barbados for a tough test against Australia. While Bangladesh will battle it out against Afghanistan. Well, the Super-8s have served nail-biting thrillers and have been up to the expectations. Next up is one of the most awaited clashes in the Super-8s. It will be Australia battling it out against Afghanistan. Would Afghanistan have recovered from the wounds the Aussies gave them in the ODI World Cup? We shall find out soon enough. The game will be played on Sunday, 23rd June and the first ball will be bowled at 6 am IST (12.30 am GMT). Till then, take care!

The captain of India, Rohit Sharma says that they know what is expected of them and it is about showing out there on the field. Feels that his team adapted to the conditions quickly. Adds that is about being smart in using the options that you have. Opines that you don't need 50s and 100s in T20 cricket and what matters is how you put the pressure on the bowlers. States that the way Hardik Pandya batted in this game puts them in very good stead and they know what he is capable of. Says that they need Hardik to finish games off for them after the platform is laid by the top 5.

Najmul Hossain Shanto, the skipper of Bangladesh is up for a chat. He says they were looking to restrict India to around 160 but credits them for batting aggressively towards the back end. He thinks that they had a lot of batting options but didn't display the required intent. Adds that when you have 190 odd to chase, you need to go hard in the Powerplay. He says all the batters were well-prepared for the conditions. About his batting, he says that he is trying to bat well every game.

Hardik Pandya is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his all-round brilliance. He says that they have played some really good cricket. Adds that they have stuck together as a team and have stuck to the plans. Further says that guys have stepped up in crunch situations in the tournament so far. Shares that it was important to not let the batters use the breeze and make it tough for them to hit with the wind. Feels that losing wickets in clumps is something they want to avoid going ahead. Tells that he had a freak injury during the ODI World Cup and tried to come back but god had other plans.

The Presentation ceremony...

Earlier in the game, India was inserted to bat first. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who were due for runs, provided a very steady and solid opening stand as both got off the blocks pretty early and negotiated the Powerplay overs playing good strokes. Virat Kohli played some colossal hits and settled well. Rohit Sharma struck a couple of sixes but couldn't extend his innings and perished on 23 off just 11. Virat Kohli then got out on 37 and Suryakumar Yadav too followed without wreaking any damage. But those quick wickets didn't bother Rishabh Pant at all who continued with his magnificent form and inflated the scoring rate without breaking a sweat. But it was Hardik who stayed till the end with a quickfire cameo half-century helping India to mount 196 on the board. Into the chase, Bangladesh got a good start but they failed to capitalise in the mid-overs and kept losing wickets. Najmul Hossain Shanto kept fighting but in the end, the Indian bowlers totally got on top and didn't give any respite to them.

India had a pretty good score on the board, but they knew they had to snag some wickets quickly to really put the squeeze on Bangladesh. Hardik Pandya stepped up big time with a crucial wicket when they needed it most. Bangladesh could've been in even deeper trouble if Pant hadn't shelled an easy catch of Tanzid. Once the fielding restrictions eased up, the spinners started messing with the batters' heads. They made it super tough to score and really cranked up the pressure. The pitch was acting up too with variable bounce and also slowed down as the innings progressed. Kuldeep Yadav cashed in on this, snagging three wickets and barely giving away any runs in his four overs. Then Bumrah came back for round two and turned the screws even more with another wicket. Arshdeep Singh got in on the action too, picking up a couple of scalps of his own. Bumrah ended up with brilliant figures yet again, bowling four overs of pure misery for the batters. He gave away practically nothing, with more than a ton of dot balls and two wickets.

Bangladesh started their chase pretty smoothly. Tanzid Hasan and Litton Das were handling the Indian fast bowlers well, smacking a few good shots to the boundary. Litton Das was looking good with some nice hits, but then he got out sooner. After Litton's departure, the scoring rate drastically took a hit after the first six overs. Tanzid Hasan who got off to a sedate start couldn't extend his innings and got out on 29. Najmul Hossain Shanto then sailed Bangladesh through the mid-overs but a couple of batters perished from the other end. Towhid Hridoy couldn't do much with the bat and neither could Shakib Al Hasan. These two quick blows dented Bangladesh's hopes but the skipper, Shanto tried to ease off the pressure and found some boundaries but eventually got out on a well-made 40. And after his fall, Bangladesh badly struggled and kept losing wickets. Rishad Hossain and Mahmudullah stitched a good partnership striking a few boundaries and sixes but they were left with plenty to chase, and in the end, they just fell like a house of cards.

INDIA HAS CRUSHED BANGLADESH, BEATING THEM BY 50 RUNS! This is the second win for India in the Super 8s and they maintain their dominance over their neighbouring counterparts in T20 World Cups. A clinical performance overall in all three departments by the Men in Blue. This win will surely inflate their NRR to a huge extent on the Points Table in Group 1. And if Australia beats Afghanistan in their next game, India will qualify for the semi-finals as will Australia.

Commentary

We are back for Bangladesh's reply. Rohit Sharma leads his troops out to the middle and they are followed by the two openers of Bangladesh. It will be Litton Das and Tanzid Hasan to open the innings for Bangladesh. Arshdeep Singh will start with the new ball for India. A slip in place to start with. Away we go...

... THE RUN CHASE ...

Right then, India will be happy with where they are at this stage in the game. Rohit Sharma will be confident enough that his bowlers can get the job done here. On the other hand, Bangladesh's top order has struggled but if they want to gun down this total, they will have to start well. Can Najmul Hossain Shanto and Co. rise to the occasion? Back in a bit to find out.

Hardik Pandya is up for a flash interview. He thinks the wicket is at par and 196 is a very good score at this track. On his partnership with Shivam Dube, he said Dube did pretty well to recover and took down the spinners when both were settled well to open their arms. Adds it got a bit slower toward the back end. Adds that some balls were sticking and says they need to bowl well with disciplined lines and lengths.

As for Bangladesh, they will feel that they gave away 20-25 runs too many. They started with spin from both ends and the plan did not start well as they would have liked. Although Shakib Al Hasan was able to see the back of the Indian skipper, they were not able to stem the flow of runs. Tanzim Hasan Sakib's twin blows lifted the spirits up in the Bangladesh camp and soon Rishad Hossain got into the wickets column. This allowed Bangladesh to claw their way back and were able to choke the boundaries. However, in the back end of their innings, they missed the mark quite a few times and were punished by the Indian batters.

Hardik Pandya has given India the desired finishing kick, helping them get to a total they will be comfortable with. 76 runs came off the last 6 overs for India to end up with 196, the highest total in T20Is at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium. After being inserted to bat first, India were off to a brisk start with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli taking their chances early on. Rohit fell on 23, but Kohli continued playing his shots even after the Powerplay. Against the run of play, India lost Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav in quick succession, which pegged them back. Rishabh Pant took his time before taking the bowlers on but perished just as he was looking good. Sensing the need to regain momentum, Hardik Pandya took the initiative, and Shivam Dube soon followed suit as boundaries began to flow from both ends. Dube could not bat through but Hardik did and played a real blinder to take India past 190.

Done with the pre-match formalities and now it's time for the action to begin! It's a pleasant day at North Sound, Antigua, with the sun shining to its glory along with a good breeze around as well. The two umpires make their way out to the middle. Out stride the two vastly experienced openers of India, skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli with the former taking the guard, and will face spin first up. Mahedi Hasan will get the proceedings underway with the ball for Bangladesh. The countdown finishes, and here we go...

We are just a few moments away from this clash to commence at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua. But before that, the two sets of players line up for their respective national anthems followed by the match officials. It will be Bangladesh's first, followed by the national anthem of India.

Ravindra Jadeja is in for a chat. He says that he is loving his time here in the Caribbean. Adds that pitches in New York suited the bowlers, but the conditions here in West Indies allow batters to get themselves in and score runs. Feels that they need to bowl while keeping in mind the wind factor and choose ends accordingly. Tells that in T20 cricket, small cameos play a big part and he tries to use his experience in the middle. Further says that he is not worried about his form and if he can score at a good strike rate, it is going to help the team.

The captain of India, Rohit Sharma says that they were looking to bat first, so they got what they wanted. Adds that they now need to put up a good show with the bat. Reckons that it looks like a good wicket but it all depends on how much the sun beats and slows the surface down. Feels that it is important to assess as quickly as possible, which they have done well so far. Informs that they are playing the same team as the last game. Tells that it is important to turn up well for every game and not worry about what lies ahead.

Najmul Hossain Shanto, the skipper of Bangladesh says they plan to restrict the opposition to a low total. Says it is a good opportunity for them and they have played some good cricket and also aim to continue with the form. He adds that they know the conditions well and says it's a good wicket. Also adds that wind will be a factor and feels 150-160 would be a good total. Informs that they have one change with Jaker Ali coming in for Taskin Ahmed.

Bangladesh (Playing XI) - Tanzid Hasan, Litton Das (WK), Najmul Hossain Shanto (C), Towhid Hridoy, Shakib Al Hasan, Mahmudullah, Jaker Ali (In for Taskin Ahmed), Rishad Hossain, Mahedi Hasan, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Mustafizur Rahman.

India (Unchanged Playing XI) - Rohit Sharma (C), Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant (WK), Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah.

TOSS - The flip of the coin lands in the favour of Najmul Hossain Shanto and Bangladesh have opted to BOWL first.

PITCH REPORT - Sunil Gavaskar and Harsha Bhogle are at the 22 yards. Harsha Bhogle begins and says it is a bit warm out there but a very strong breeze is blowing across the ground which will help the ball to sail away if hit with the wind. Mentions the dimensions by saying it is 61 meters and 67 meters at the square. Sunil Gavaskar joins him and says this looks like a pretty good track to bat on and the batters will enjoy playing their strokes. Also adds that wrist spinners will get more help as compared to the finger spinners and reckons it is a 180 kind of surface. Ends up by saying the captain winning the toss must bowl first.

Bangladesh, on the other hand, face a quick turnaround after losing to Australia in their Super 8 campaign opener. Tanzim Hasan Sakib has led the charge in the pace department while leggie Rishad Hossain has also delivered the goods with the ball. In terms of batting, Towhid Hridoy has been the shining light, but a collective effort will be crucial to their chances in this clash. Having played in Antigua before, Najmul Hossain Shanto and his men will have a fair idea of the conditions. Can Bangladesh spring a surprise? Or will the Indian juggernaut continue to roll on? Let's find out. Toss and team news coming up in a bit.

India, along with South Africa and Australia, are unbeaten so far and look poised to progress to the semi-finals. Although Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have not performed upto expectations, Suryakumar Yadav and Rishabh Pant have put their hands up at crucial junctures in the competition. On the bowling front, Jasprit Bumrah has been at the top of his game, supported superbly by the rest of the attack in what has been a dominant bowling performance from the Men in Blue so far. All in all, India look like a well-oiled unit and seem to have the right balance to perform in the Caribbean conditions.

Hello and welcome everyone! We are here in Antigua at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium for another exciting all-Asian clash in Group 1 as Bangladesh and India go head-to-head. Fresh from their victory over Afghanistan, India will be looking to move closer to the semi-finals with another win, while a loss for Bangladesh could push them to the brink of elimination. Although Bangladesh have come close to beating India in the past, they are yet to do so in their four previous meetings in Men's T20 World Cups. With their tournament lives on the line, they will need to rewrite history here in Antigua.

... MATCH DAY ...

The 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup is nearing its business and the top 8 teams from the group stages are currently divided into two groups of four in a battle to claim a top two finish in their respective group and make it through to the semifinals. In Match 7 of the Super Eight stage, Asian giants India will go up against neighbors and rivals Bangladesh at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua in a bid to get closer to a semifinal spot. India have had an unblemished record so far in the competition brushing aside other Asian teams like Pakistan and an upbeat Afghanistan side as well in their most recent contest. While the highly experienced duo of skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli hasn't quite fired for them at the top, the middle order has shown some signs of greatness, the latest example being that of Suryakumar Yadav who made a prolific fifty in their last game against Afghanistan. Rishabh Pant has only managed to do more than a decent job at number 3 and has provided some necessary impetus to the batting at times. Shivam Dube has had a lean tournament so far but Hardik Pandya did show his prowess in the last game which will certainly bolster the team's confidence. Axar Patel has been another player who has managed to deliver at crucial stages, whether with the bat or ball and has now become a mainstay of this team. Jasprit Bumrah has been at his best and even when the conditions aren't pace-friendly, he just seems to rise above the challenge. He has been well-supported by the others and India have the flexibility to interchange the likes of Mohammed Siraj and either Kuldeep Yadav or Yuzvendra Chahal according to the conditions which makes them a very complete bowling unit. Bangladesh on the other hand have blown hot and cold so far and have threatened a bit to beat those top teams but haven't quite managed to be consistent throughout the game. The batting in general has been patchy and only Towhid Hridoy seems to be the consistent performer in the side and he has been so for the past 8-9 months. Skipper, Najmul Hossain Shanto did enjoy a fruitful outing against Australia last time around but the likes of Litton Das, Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah need to do more. The bowling has been a positive for them so far and Tanzim Hasan Sakib has looked the best of the bunch but Taskin Ahmed was taken to the cleaners in the last game and Shakib being unable to deliver with the ball makes a lot of difference in being contenders and going on to actually win against a big side. This game will bring back memories of that Quarterfinal in the 2016 edition where Bangladesh were on the verge of notching up a famous win against India that too in India but they choked right at the death. Can Bangladesh step up their game and play a consistent game of cricket against the big guns? Or will India brush them aside and get one foot in the semifinals? Only time will tell.
