Commentary

Right then, it's the two unbeaten teams that will lock horns in the grand finale. Incidentally, it is the first time South Africa will be playing in the final and their best finish came in 2014 when they lost to India in the semis. India on the other hand are also back in the final for the first time since 2014 and that makes for an even fiestier contest. The Men's T20 World Cup Final, 2024 will be played at the Kensington Oval in Barbados between South Africa and India on Saturday, 29 June and there will be a reserve day in place if rain tries to play spoilsport. That game will begin at 8 pm IST (2.30 pm GMT) but you can join us a lot sooner for the build-up of that massive clash. Until then, take care and goodbye!

The captain of India, Rohit Sharma says that it is a very satisfying win. Mentions that everybody worked really hard and it was a great effort. Feels that the team adapted to the conditions really well and it has been their success story. Adds that if you play the conditions well, things fall into place for you. Shares that at one stage during their batting effort, they thought 140-150 would have been enough but as the runs started to flow, they thought that they needed 20-30 runs more. Mentions that the bowlers were fantastic and the spinners knew what to do and how to execute. Further says that the talk at the halfway mark was to try to keep the stumps into play as much as possible. On Virat Kohli's form, he replies that the form of Kohli is never a problem and jokingly says that he might be saving it for the final. Ends by saying that staying calm helps you in making big decisions and it will be key for them in the final.

Jos Buttler, the captain of England says that India certainly puyplayed them and feels they let India get 20 runs or so more but they were outplayed to be honest. Adds that a couple of years on from that victory (the semifinal win in Adelaide),  the conditions were different and India deserved to win. Mentions that with the rain around, they felt conditions wouldn't change much and they didn't and it's just that India bowled really well. Adds that India have fantastic spinners and even their two spinnes bowled well and could have bowled Moeen Ali in the first innings. Adds that given how the tournament has panned out, you can only play who's in front of you and have played good cricket in patches.

Axar Patel is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his superb all-round performance. He says that he likes to bowl in the Powerplay and with the ball stopping in the surface, he just had to bowl in good areas and not try too much. He says that since the wicket was slower, it was important for him to keep it slow as the quicker balls were easier to hit. Shares that the feedback from the batters was that the surface was not easy to hit the big shots. Further says that the partnership between Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav was magnificent. Says that he will celebrate this award first and he is not thinking about the final at the moment.

The Presentation ceremony...

Earlier in the day, the players were greeted by torrential rain in Guyana and we had a fairly delayed start. After being inserted into bat by Jos Buttler, India lost Virat Kohli early yet again but skipper Rohit Sharma kept on pressing and after getting a couple of streaky boundaries away, Rohit started to find his rhythm. Along with Suryakumar Yadav, Rohit managed to keep the English spinners at bay and that run rate started to rise as well. However, England did come back with the ball and it required a couple of cameos from the likes of Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja that took India over the 170-run mark. For England, Adil Rashid and Liam Livingstone bowled well and were economical whereas the pacers were erratic and predictable with their slower balls. They did a decent job of closing out the innings but it wasn't enough.

Not too long ago in 2022, England found themselves at the exact stage, chasing a similar total and on that day it was skipper Jos Buttler who played a fabulous knock and England won by 10 wickets in Adelaide but the tables turned in Guyana and England ended up getting bundled out while chasing. It was Buttler yet again who started positively and it seemed history might even repeat itself but he got out playing a bit of an unnecessary shot but it was really the other batters who did their skills no justice. Only Harry Brook showed some composure and played a few top shots before getting out to the reverse sweep, the same shot that got the better of Buttler as well. Jofra Archer struck a few lusty blows but by then, England were well and truly beaten and that marks the end of their reign as the Men's T20 World Champions.

Having put on a solid total of 171 runs on the board, India knew that all they needed were a few wickets up top in order for their spinners to come in and control the game and that's exactly what happened. The seamers didn't quite deliver and Rohit Sharma was forced to introduce spin early as Axar Patel got the wicket of Jos Buttler on his very first ball and that got India going. Jasprit Bumrah came to the party before Axar knocked over a couple of more batters. Kuldeep Yadav had the perfect platform and ripped through the middle order after which a couple of run-outs sent England to the brink and it was Bumrah who rounded things off with that wicket of Jofra Archer.

THE DECADE-LONG WAIT IS FINALLY OVER AND INDIA ARE BACK IN A MEN'S T20 WORLD CUP FINAL! A comprehensive display from India with bat, ball, and in the field as they keep their unbeaten streak alive and storm into the final. England have been handed a proper drubbing just like they did a couple of years back at the same stage to the same opponent and this victory will feel a lot sweeter for India as they have made light work of the reigning champions.

16.4W

OUT! TRAPPED IN FRONT! ALL OVER FOR ENGLAND! INDIA MARCH INTO THE FINAL! Jasprit Bumrah finishes things off as India win by 68 runs and have made it to their third Men's T20 World Cup final. Steams in from over the wicket and dishes it out on a fullish length, tailing in, on middle, Jofra Archer walks right across his stumps and tries to take it on the full to paddle it past short fine leg. He fails to lay any bat on it and the ball sneaks past the inside edge to thud him on the back toe right in front of the stumps. Up goes the finger but Archer reviews more in hope than anything else. There is no bat involved on UltraEdge and on Ball Tracking, it is umpire's call with the ball clipping the leg stump.

The game seems to be over as Jofra Archer has been adjudged LBW but he has opted for the review. This was full and straight from Jasprit Bumrah and the third umpire is having a look. Clearly, no bat involved and Ball Tracking shows the wickets as umpire's call and the onfield decision stands. OUT comes up on the big screen and it's all over.

16.31

Pace on and attacking the stumps, on a length, Reece Topley clears his front leg to go back over the bowler's head but gets an inside edge onto the pads. The ball rolls away on the leg side off his pads for one.

16.21

Rolls his fingers over the ball and serves it on a nagging length, on off, Jofra Archer dabs it to deep point for one more run.

16.11

Slips in a loopy delivery, dipping towards the batter, Reece Topley reaches out in front and eases it to long on for a single.

FOUR! Up and over! Full and right in the slot, on off, Jofra Archer does not miss out as he lifts it up cleanly and gets it way over mid off for a boundary.

15.51

Slanting in, on a hard length, on off, Reece Topley makes room to play at it but gets an inside edge that rolls down to fine leg for a single.

15.41

Digs it in short again does Hardik, on midde, Jofra Archer miscues the pull in front of long on for a single.

15.36

SIX! Straight as an arrow! Delivers it on a short of a length, Jofra Archer stands tall and with a still head, smokes it over the bowler's head for a biggie.

Reece Topley is the last man in for England.

15.2W

OUT! RUN OUT! Absolutely brilliant by Suryakumar Yadav! India now a wicket away from making it to the final. Hardik lands it on a hard length, on middle, Adil Rashid hops to tuck it away but gets a leading edge that lobs wide of mid on. There is a bit of hesitation but the batters do decide to cross over. Suryakumar Yadav from a widish mid on position, runs across to his left and picks it up with his right hand. Facing towards mid off, SKY flicks the ball towards the bowling end and hits the stumps. Adil Rashid puts in the dive but he is caught way short of his crease.

15.12

Hardik takes pace off straight away, on a short of a good length, outside off, Adil Rashid stays leg side of the ball and slaps it in front of square on the off side for a couple of runs.

So nearly sneaked through! Axar darts it in from around the wicket, short and coming in with the angle, at the stumps, Jofra Archer just about manages to squeeze out an inside edge onto the pads. Axar is done for the day. He ends with figures of 4-0-23-3.

Adil Rashid comes out to bat.

14.5W

OUT! RUN OUT! Oh, dear! Jofra Archer has left Liam Livingstone stranded and that is the last nail in the English coffin for sure. Axar Patel bowls this one flatter and on a good length, angling it into the batter. Archer goes hard at it but gets an inside edge down to short fine leg and Livingstone calls him for a single. Archer says no and turns away whilst Livingstone is more than halfway down the pitch. Kuldeep Yadav picks up the ball and throws it back to the bowler who whips off the bails and Livingstone isn't even in the picture.

14.46

SIX! Clean strike from Jofra Archer! Full and straight in the slot, Archer takes the front leg out and swings through the line, hammering it over the bowler's head for a biggie.

14.30

Gives it a bit of air and drifts it into the legs, Jofra Archer clears the front foot and goes for the big heave across the line, failing to connect and gets hit on the pads.

14.21

On the shorter side around off, Liam Livingstone makes room and slaps it away to deep point for a single.

14.12

Looking for two and they do get it. Sliding into the legs, Liam Livingstone flicks it away in front of square on the leg side and sprints back for the second run.

Commentary

We are back. The two umpires make their way out to the centre as do the Indian players. Jos Buttler and Phil Salt stride out to open the innings for England and how they fare against India's new ball attack will be pivotal in deciding the outcome of the game. It will be India's leading wicket-taker of this World Cup, Arshdeep Singh to kickstart proceedings with the new ball. He is starting with a slip in place. Away we go...

... THE RUN CHASE ...

Right then, India have the runs on the board but will it be enough against this strong English batting unit? Given the sharp turn and low bounce on offer, India's 3 spin bowling options will relish the prospect of bowling on this surface. In that 2022 T20 World Cup semifinal, England chased down 169 in 16 overs to march into the final. This time they have 172 to chase, but the conditions are very different than they were on that night. Back in a bit for the second half of this blockbuster clash.

Liam Livingstone is down for a chat. He says that Jos told him to keep things simple and he tried to bowl into the pitch and get the batters to hit where they wanted them to. Adds that the surface looks good and there's not much going in the surface as the odd ball is keeping low. Reckons that they have firepower in the batting line up and hopefully, they can chase it down.

As for England, they will be pleased with their bowling effort. It was a decent start for them with a couple of wickets in the first six overs. Just as Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav were beginning to put them under pressure, the rain came at the right time, allowing them to regroup and reassess their plans. After the resumption, Jos Buttler was quick to introduce spin from both ends and neither Adil Rashid nor Liam Livingstone disappoint him. There were a couple of overs in the middle phase that went in excess of 10 runs, especially that one over by Sam Curran, that went for 19 runs, but all in all, it was a job well done by England.

A decent finish to the innings for India! 24 runs came off the last 2 overs, taking India to 171. Having been put into bat by Jos Buttler, Virat Kohli had yet another short stay at the crease. His opening partner, Rohit Sharma struggled a bit initially for timing but he did not shy away from playing his shots. Coming in at the departure of Pant, Suryakumar Yadav made his intentions clear straight away. The two batters were able to get themselves in but rain came at an inopportune time and hampered the momentum of the Indian innings. After the resumption, Rohit and Suryakumar batted sensibly with the former going on to make his second straight fifty. The departure of both set batters pegged India back a bit but Hardik Pandya played a breezy cameo as did Ravindra Jadeja to take India past 170.

A single to end the first innings! Chris Jordan bowls it on a hard length and attacks the stumps. Arshdeep Singh tries to give himself room and swing at the ball but miscues it badly just on the leg side. The batters set off for the run but Jordan is quick to get to the ball. However, he is indecisive with the throw and ends up missing and under-arm effort at the bowler's end. Luckily, there's a man backing up and India don't get the extra run. India finish with 171/7 on the board!

Arshdeep Singh comes out to face the last ball.

19.5W

OUT! CAUGHT! Chipped straight to the man in the deep! Chris Jordan keeps bowling back of a length and slower as well but straightens the line bowling it over middle and leg. Axar Patel tries to just get inside the line but gets cramped up and ends up getting it much higher on the bat than he would have liked. The ball goes straight up and carries to deep mid-wicket where Phil Salt comes in and takes a simple catch.

19.46

SIX! One hand off the handle and yet Axar Patel gets enough on it to bring up the 500th six of the tournament. Slower one, banged into the deck and outside off. Axar gets a bit stuck and tries to reach out and swipe across the line but the ball goes off the top edge of the bat and carries over deep mid-wicket for a six.

19.32

Into the pitch and slanted away from the left-hander, Axar Patel reaches out and hits it away in front of square on the off side before racing back for two. Liam Livingstone is the man in the deep who fires in a wide throw at the keeper's end.

19.21

Takes pace off again and bowls it a tad fuller and around off stump, Ravindra Jadeja is early on the drive and plays it away towards cover for just a single.

19.12

Hits the deck hard and angles the ball well across the off stump at about 121 kph. It is the off-cutter, Ravindra Jadeja comes down the pitch and hammers it wide of deep extra cover and sprints back for the second run. A better throw at the bowler's end could have made things difficult for Axar Patel.

How much more can India get off this last over? It will be Chris Jordan to bowl the last over. Can he keep India under 170?

Much better ending to the over from Jofra Archer. Comes from around the stumps, clocks it well over 140 kph and spears the ball in at the toes. Axar Patel looks to shimmy down the pitch and open up the off side but is well beaten.

18.51

This is pitched up around the middle and leg stump line at 140.4 KPH, Ravindra Jadeja plays it on the up and pushes it down to long on for a single.

Jos Buttler walks up to Jofra Archer and the duo have a chat regarding the field setting. Archer changes his angle of attack as he comes around the wicket.

18.44

FOUR! This is very smart batting from Ravindra Jadeja and the momentum shifts again. Too predictable from Jofra Archer as this is bowled slower and a bit fuller at the stumps, Jadeja gets down on one knee and just angles the sweep between square leg and backward square leg for another boundary. 11 off the over already, still 2 balls to go.

18.32

There is an early call for two and they get it with ease, Ravindra Jadeja is rapid! Pace on this time, on a good length and outside off, hit away through cover-point for a couple of runs.

18.24

FOUR! In the gap! Fractionally shorter but offering width outside the off stump, Ravindra Jadeja just reaches out and times the ball nicely, getting it behind point for a boundary. The 150 is now up for India.

18.11

Pace off, bowled on a good length and angled across the left-hander, Axar Patel taps the ball in front of square on the off side and picks up an easy single.

No hat-trick! On a hard length around off and angling across the batter, Axar Patel pushes it away to the right of Moeen Ali at covers and picks up a quick single.

Axar Patel walks in now. Chris Jordan is on a hat-trick now. Jordan already has a hat-trick to his name. It came against the USA. Can he join Pat Cummins as the second man to take back-to-back hat-tricks in this World Cup?

17.5W

OUT! EDGED AND GONE! Two in two for Chris Jordan and all of a sudden, he's on a hat-trick! Jordan goes pace on, bowling it nice and full on off stump with the natural angle just slanting it across the left-hander. Shivam Dube is a bit tentative to get onto the front foot and just has a poke at it, getting a feather of an outside edge that goes straight into the mitts of Jos Buttler behind the stumps. Jordan is on a roll!

Shivam Dube makes his way out to the centre now.

17.4W

OUT! CAUGHT! Third-time lucky for Chris Jordan and Hardik Pandya departs after a cameo. Jordan has the heart to pitch the ball up again and tries to get it wide enough of the off stump. Pandya holds his shape again but goes really hard at it and gets no elevation whatsoever. The ball flies off the bat but goes around waist height towards long off where Sam Curran takes a sharp catch and England get another timely wicket.

17.36

SIX! That was a real 'hit-me' ball and Hardik Pandya has picked up a couple of sixes on the bounce! This is floated up full and outside the off stump, Pandya hangs deep and reaches out before smashing the ball flat and over a leaping Sam Curran at long off for another six. That pinged off Pandya's bat!

17.26

SIX! Oh, that is sheer power from Hardik Pandya, stand and deliver! Chris Jordan looks to bowl the slower one into the pitch and angle it in from around off but it sits up for the batter. Pandya holds his shape, clears the front leg and swats it flat and wide of long on for a biggie.

17.12

Slightly back of a length and around off stump, Hardik Pandya stands tall, waits for the ball and punches it with a high elbow through extra cover before coming back for the second run.

OUT!

OUT! RUN OUT! There is another huge appeal for LBW and the finger is raised once more. Chris Jordan has to take the chance with the review and does go upstairs. OUT! TIMBER! That is the mark of a great bowler and that subtle change in line has done the trick for Kuldeep Yadav and he is rightly delighted. This time Harry Brook pre-meditates the reverse sweep and Kuldeep is aware of it. Kuldeep fires it in quicker at 88 kph and full at the middle stump. Brook cannot adjust and misses the ball as the ball crashes into the stumps and the one man that looked solid for England has to now depart.

10.34

FOUR! That is skillful from Harry Brook. Floated up full and around off stump, Brook brings out the reverse sweep and nails it past first slip and into the third man fence for a much-needed boundary.

10.20

Beaten! Pushed through a bit quicker and flatter, bowling it on a nagging length around off, Harry Brook doesn't pick it and has a poke at it but the ball goes agonizingly past the outside edge.

10.12

Buzzers! A direct hit could have been trouble for Harry Brook but Ravindra Jadeja misses the stumps and gives away an extra run instead. Kuldeep Yadav dishes out a full delivery around off stump, Brook jams it out to covers and sets off for the quick single as there is a shy at the bowler's end which is wide and Brook gets back on strike.

Drinks break! Well then, this has been underwhelming thus far from the English batters but at the same time, it has been solid from the Indians. Jos Buttler was the only one who showed intent early on and got those crucial boundaries away as he knew that once the spinners came on, it wouldn't be straightforward but he tried to put Axar Patel under pressure from the get-go and was sent packing. Since then, no batter has taken matters into their hands and it is just Harry Brook who seems to be fighting a lone battle. There's still some way to go in the game but right now, India are well and truly on top of proceedings.

OUT! STUMPED! Quick work by Rishabh Pant! England slip further. Not a wicket-taking delivery by Axar as this is too straight, on a nagging length, on the pads, Moeen Ali looks to tickle it fine off his pads but fails to get any bat on it. The ball thuds his thigh pad and rolls behind towards the keeper. Moeen Ali is unaware of where the ball has gone and wanders out for the run. The keeper, Rishabh Pant is alert as he collects it off the turf and whips the bails off in a jiffy. The third umpire is called into action and the replays confirm that even though Moeen turns around and tries to make the ground with his bat, he is short of his crease.

Is that stumped? It seems like some sharp glove work from Rishabh Pant behind the stumps has undone Moeen Ali here who lost his balance. The third umpire is called in and the replays clearly show that Ali's bat was in the air. OUT comes up on the big screen!

OUT!

Ravindra Jadeja comes out to bat now.

OUT! CAUGHT! Chris Jordan with one of the safest pairs of hands and both set batters are back to the hut for India. Skillful from Jofra Archer though as he bowls this one from the back of the hand and serves it a tad fuller outside off stump. Suryakumar Yadav tries to get under the ball and lift it over long on but loses his balance and is early into the shot. The ball gets lofted quite high in the air towards the long on fence where Jordan settles under it and takes a solid catch under pressure. England sniffing a chance of a comeback here.

Edgy! Floats it up, full and spinning away from the right-hander, around off, Suryakumar Yadav pushes away from his body and gets an outside edge that goes through the vacant first slip region. Hardik Pandya scampers across to the batting end where Jos Buttler collects the throw from short third and disturbs the stumps. The third umpire is called into action but the replays confirm that Pandya has made it.

Is that a runout? Adil Rashid attacked the ball nicely there and Jos Buttler whipped off the bails at the batter's end. However, there's not much excitement as the umpire goes upstairs. The replays roll in and confirm that Hardik Pandya was well in. NOT OUT comes up on the big screen!

All in readiness for the resumption. A blazing sunshine greets the two umpires as they walk out to the middle. They are followed by Jos Buttler and his men. Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav are all set to resume their innings with the latter on strike. England are starting with spin after the break in the form of Liam Livingstone. Let's play...

UPDATE - 10.58 pm IST (5.28 pm GMT) - We have a resumption time, folks! Play to restart at 11.10 pm IST (5.40 pm GMT) with no overs lost. For Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav, it is about starting their inning all over again while England will be looking to strike immediately after the break.

UPDATE - 10.45 pm IST (5.15 pm GMT) - Right then, time for the inspection. The Guyana National Stadium is bathed in sunshine as the two umpires walk out to inspect. There are still a few areas in the in-field that the match officials are concerned about and sawdust is being used to dry them off. India's head coach Rahul Dravid is also out there. Just a reminder - India will be concerned with the damp patches on the outfield because it is they who have to bowl second. But as far as the result is concerned, if there is a washout - INDIA WILL GO THROUGH - on account of topping their group in the Super Eight. Spare a thought for Jos Buttler - Rain denied England a full match against Scotland, nearly knocked them out in the league stage itself against Namibia and now, is playing hide-and-seek with them in this semifinal. Nothing that Jos Buttler can do, except hope that Lady Luck is in his team's favour. A long way to go though...as per the official ICC statement, given that we need to have a minimum of 10 overs of play for a match to be constituted in this semifinal and the final, the latest that this match can start is 1.44 am IST, Friday (8.14 pm GMT, Thursday).

UPDATE - 10.36 pm IST (5.06 pm GMT) - The majority of the covers have been removed but there are still some damp areas in the outfield which are causing concern for the match officials. Before the rest of the covers can be removed, the ground staff want to make sure that all the water has been removed and are using the Super Sopper to do the job.

UPDATE - 10.24 pm IST (4.54 pm GMT) - The umpires are out in the middle having a chat and they are looking up trying to get a good perspective from where the weather seems to be coming in. It is currently sunny out there, or at least in most parts and the groundstaff seem to be doing a quick and efficient mop-up job. The Indian coach, Rahul Dravid can be seen taking a stroll as the umpires inspect the deck and the surrounding areas closely. We might get a proper update soon! And, we do get an update - Inspection at 10.45 pm IST (5.15 pm GMT)!

UPDATE - 10.11 pm IST (4.41 pm GMT) - Good news! The rain has subsided, and the ground staff are making their way out to the middle. There is a lot of water on the covers, which needs to be taken care of before the covers can be removed. It was a heavy downpour but the drainage system at this venue is excellent, so it should not take long for the ground staff to get the field ready for play. A few minutes later, the sun is out and the ground staff are slowly peeling the covers off.

UPDATE - 9.53 pm IST (4.23 pm GMT) - Ah no! It has started to rain again, and this time it is heavy enough for the umpires to take the players off the field. On come the ground staff with the covers. It is absolutely pelting down as the fans on the grass banks rush for cover. As per the on-air commentators, the next update from the ground is expected at 10.30 pm IST (5 pm GMT). Fingers crossed for a positive update!

There seems to be a slight wait as the Indian opening duo of Virat Kohli and skipper Rohit Sharma is seen having a chat near the boundary ropes and finally, they stride out to the middle behind the umpires. Reece Topley has the new ball in hand and is up to the top of his mark as he gets ready to kick things off with the ball. Just the one slip in place, let's play...

We are just moments away from the start of the 2nd semifinal! Before play can get underway, the match officials walk out and the two sets of players then line up for their respective national anthems. It will be the national anthem of England first, followed by the Indian national anthem.

The skipper of India, Rohit Sharma says that they were anyway looking to bat first. Expects the weather to stay clear now and feels that runs on the board in a big game are crucial. States that the pitch looks a bit dry and hopes that it gets slower as the game progresses. Mentions that they have managed the travel and logistics pretty well. Adds that they are here to get the job done. States that not focusing too far ahead and staying in the present has worked for them so far. Ends by informing that they are going with the same team as the last game.

The captain of England, Jos Buttler says that the surface looks like a decent one and there might be lower bounce and the rain early on definitely suits bowling first. Adds that they are coming up against a quality opposition and need to be at their best. Further adds that they are peaking at the right time and are going in with the same side. Mentions that the mood in the camp is a good one and they have played these guys before.

Looking at the blue skies overhead, we might have just seen the last of the rain for the day.

While we wait for the inspection to take place, folks, how's this for a stat? Rohit Sharma and Jos Buttler have scored the same amount of runs and have the same strike rate. In the 6 innings at this World Cup, both skippers have amassed 191 runs at an identical SR of 159.16. Unless there are any surprises, Rohit and Jos will walk out to open the innings for their respective teams. Which skipper will fire and set the tone for their side on this big day?

UPDATE - 8.16 pm IST (2.46 pm GMT) - We are hearing that the umpires were out in the middle and whilst there's no rain, the inspection will now take place at 8.45 pm IST (3.15 pm GMT). So, we have about half an hour still to go before we get any concrete news regarding the toss and the start of play. Let's just hope, the skies stay clear now and this highly-anticipated clash can get going. Stay tuned for further updates.

UPDATE - 8.03 pm IST (2.33 pm GMT) - Positive news! The rain has stopped, and the sun has made its appearance at the Guyana National Stadium. More promising signs as the ground staff start the process of peeling the covers off. The match officials have scheduled an inspection for 8.30 pm IST (3 pm GMT). Live visuals show the Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma, out in the middle inspecting the strip.

Jasprit Bumrah is in for a chat. He says that the expectations are high, but as a unit, they have played a lot of ICC tournaments. Adds that more than focusing on the outside noise, they are trying to be in the present. Feels that you can only control the controllable, and it is important to put the best foot forward. Lauds Arshdeep Singh for the way he has bowled this World Cup. Mentions that Arshdeep has done well in setting the tone for the team upfront and he always wants to improve, which is a good sign.

UPDATE - 7.51 pm IST (2.21 pm GMT) - Uh, oh! There's that drizzle again! Everyone knew beforehand that it was going to be that type of a day in Guyana and the covers are starting to come on once more. Thankfully, we do have plenty of time on our hands but it must be frustrating for everyone involved. Stick around for further updates.

PITCH REPORT - A while back Harsha Bhogle and Michael Atherton were pitchside. Bhogle started by saying that it is a muggy morning which is expected and the wind isn't as strong. The square boundaries are 69 meters and 70 meters on either side and the straight boundary is 79 meters. Adds that there is some rain around. Atherton chimes in and says that the covers have done their job and the pitch is dry. He expects the pitch to be low and skiddy, adding that the stats here for a day game say that the average score is about 167, further saying that it all depends on what the captains want to do after winning the toss.

UPDATE - 7.37 pm IST (2.07 pm GMT) - The live visuals from the National Stadium in Guyana show that the weather looks a lot clearer and even though the covers are on, the drainage system is at work and for now, we can only wait. However, let's switch from this game for a moment and talk about the game that took place about half a day earlier. In the first semifinal, Afghanistan and South Africa played each other in Tarouba. The Proteas absolutely dismantled an Afghan side that was high on emotions but a bit low on energy and the men from the 'Rainbow Nation' stormed into their first-ever Men's World Cup final, whether it be an ODI or a T20 one. Anyway, back to the game at hand and a few minutes later, the covers have started to come off which is excellent news.

UPDATE - 7.25 pm IST (1.55 pm GMT) - Unfortunately, we do not bring a positive update. The TOSS has been officially delayed. Although the rain has subsided, the ground staff seem to be expecting another bout of rain, which is why the covers are still on in anticipation of a shower. Stick around for more news.

UPDATE - 7.16 pm IST (1.46 pm GMT) - Good news! The rain has stopped, but the covers stay on for now. Folks, while we wait for the covers to be taken off, let's get you up to speed with the playing conditions for this encounter - There is no provision for a reserve day, so 250 minutes of extra time have been allotted. This means a 20-over contest can start as late as 12.10 am IST (6.40 pm GMT, the previous day). Additionally, for the semifinals and the grand final, both teams must play a minimum of 10 overs for the game to constitute a result.

UPDATE - 7.05 pm IST (1.35 pm GMT) - Uh, oh! What started as a drizzle has turned into a heavy downpour. The Indian players, who were going through their warm-up drills, have retreated into the dressing room. If the rain doesn't stop soon, the toss might well be delayed.

At a venue where spin has been tough to get away in this World Cup, will the surface play true to its nature? If it does, it will all come down to which side plays spin better on the day. In that case, the Powerplay becomes even more crucial, where going hard could win you half the battle. With all the buzz surrounding this game, the possibility of rain looms large and how will it affect this crucial clash? Lots of questions, the answers to which we will find out over the next few hours. Hop on, this should be fun!

Fighting out of the red corner are England, who have fond memories of facing India in a Men's T20 World Cup semifinal but a lot has changed since then. Still, they will be confident going up against the formidable Indian juggernaut. No team has ever successfully defended a Men's T20 World Cup title, but Jos Buttler and his squad are on track to becoming the first to do so. They are heavily reliant on their top order, and their performance will be pivotal in deciding the reigning champions' fortunes in this encounter. With the ball, Adil Rashid will be a central figure during the middle overs, but his effectiveness will depend on the pacers setting the tone upfront.

In the blue corner stand India, unbeaten so far and determined to add a Men's ICC trophy to their cabinet for the first time since 2013. Having suffered a crushing defeat by the same opponent in the 2022 semifinal, losing by 10 wickets, Rohit Sharma and his team are eager to bury the ghosts of that past and move one step closer to the silverware. Though Virat Kohli is yet to fire, he is known for rising to big occasions, and it wouldn't be surprising if he delivers in this clash. India's bowling has been a collective effort, with different individuals making crucial contributions at different stages.

Hello and welcome everyone! In a much-anticipated rematch of the 2022 Men's T20 World Cup semi-final, India and England square off at the Guyana National Stadium. Once again, the stakes are high, with a place in the final at stake, where South Africa await after coming up trumps against Afghanistan in a dominant fashion. Even the slightest slip-up could spell the end for either team, but both sides will feel they are yet to play their best game. What better opportunity than a semi-final to bring out their best, with a potential final on the horizon?

... MATCH DAY ...

The stakes couldn't be higher as we approach one of the most electrifying showdowns of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024. In the second knockout match, the crucial semi-final 2, at the Guyana National Stadium, the defending champions, England, will face off against an Indian side in red-hot form. This epic battle promises heart-stopping action as these two cricket giants vie for a coveted spot in the grand finale. England have navigated a tumultuous tournament to secure their spot in the semi-finals, thanks to a few extraordinary performances and some fortunate outcomes that went their way. The formidable partnership of Jos Buttler and new opening partner Phil Salt has been a key factor, firing on all cylinders when it mattered the most. The middle order has bolstered the team's efforts, with valuable contributions from Jonny Bairstow and Harry Brook. England's bowling arsenal looks strong, with four frontline pacers hitting their stride and maintaining a balanced attack. Given that the pitch could favour spin a bit more, it will be intriguing to see if Jos Buttler opts for any strategic changes or retains the successful combination used so far. India, in contrast, have enjoyed an unbeaten run in the tournament so far, with almost everything falling right into place. While the opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli has yet to hit stride, Rohit’s exceptional form and aggressive intent, coupled with Rishabh Pant's solid performances at number 3, has covered for any lapses. The middle order has been formidable, with Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya leading the charge. Though Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja have not yet showcased their full potential, the team’s balance has been a key factor in their success. The pace attack, spearheaded by Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh, has consistently delivered by chipping early wickets, while the spin department, led by Kuldeep Yadav, has further strengthened their dominance. India will be eager to exact revenge against England for their previous Men’s T20 World Cup semi-final loss at Adelaide, while England will strive to showcase their aggressive brand of cricket in pursuit of reaching the grand finale and inching a step closer to becoming the only men's team to retain a T20 World Cup title. With so much on the line, this battle promises to be a thrilling, edge-of-your-seat contest!
