Commentary
Welcome back for West Indies' response with the bat. The umpires and players punctually make their way to the middle. The Indians have taken their respective fielding spots. John Campbell and Shai Hope are the two openers for the tourists, walking to the crease. Mohammed Siraj is all set to steam in with the new ball. Campbell is on strike. Off we go again...
... The Run Chase ...
Tough task ahead - Batting in the first powerplay looked difficult, but the pitch certainly got better and more hospitable to bat as the innings progressed. Under the lights, conditions might come on even better for the batters too, which makes a steady start absolutely non-negotiable for the tourists. They have found proactive starts through Campbell this series, and it is now about whether that platform can be built upon to chase down a target of this size. India, on the other hand, will simply look to break through that first wall of partnerships, and their bowlers, especially the seamers, will also look to tidy up their own numbers, having been expensive through this series. Back in a bit with the start of the chase.
Backed up with a KLassic knock - However, West Indies hit back with a mini burst, removing both set batters in quick succession. Seales struck again on his return, as India slid from 141 for 2 to 160 for 4. Those twin blows gave the Indian middle order exactly the kind of test they have been craving all series. KL Rahul and Naman Dhir responded with a fluent 65-run stand, while Anshul Kamboj muscled a couple into the stands to show off his batting credentials too, on his ODI debut. But the main act was Rahul, who eventually motored his way to a well-deserved century, playing all around the dial before absolutely cutting loose towards the end to help India breach 350.
Kept things tight first up - Unlike the first two games, played on flat surfaces that produced a flood of runs and successful chases, this pitch told a very different story. The ball jumped and nipped off the deck, right up the bowlers' alley. Seales and Forde set the tone with discipline up front, the former accounting for both Gill and Kohli to leave India reeling at 4 for 2. West Indies owned the first powerplay overall, keeping India pinned to just 28 for 2. Rohit survived a couple of close shaves, and Gaikwad rode his luck too, dropped four times. Still, the two settled the nerves, found their rhythm, and stitched together a stable 137-run stand, with both Rohit and Gaikwad notching up well-paced half-centuries.
Men in Blue boss it up once again - 65 runs in the last 5 overs have powered India to a mammoth score. And they have KL Rahul to thank for it - dare we say, one of the finest knocks of his ODI career, as he finishes with his highest score in this format. West Indies will be hugely disappointed with the way they finished things off. They simply couldn't devise the right plans, let alone execute them, to keep a lid on the run flow. It was a tough day out for someone like Alzarri Joseph, who leaked plenty of runs, though a couple of crucial chances also went down off his bowling. Jayden Seales, on the other hand, was the pick of the bowlers, even if he too went for a few too many through the back end.

Another brace and that takes India past 350 on the final ball of the innings. 22 runs off the final over as the Men in Blue finish on 351/7. Slips it in full, keeping it away from the batter's arc. Rahul gets low and drags it wide of deep mid-wicket. They take the first run hard and come charging back for the second before the throw arrives.
Two runs saved! Keemo stays full and wide on off. KL anticipates the line and walks across. He brings out the reverse and spoons it over the man at short third. The fielder at deep backward point is fine, and he sprints to his left, sticking out the left boot to prevent the boundary.
FOUR! The boundaries keep coming. Paul tries to keep it around the tramline, on a length. Rahul collapses his back knee and throws his hands at the ball. It flies behind off a thickish outside edge over the head of the short third fielder for a four. 18 runs off the over with two balls to go.
SIX! And again! Another full toss but this is higher, around the waist. An awkward height to pick it up but Rahul presses back and swivels to dispatch it over mid-wicket for another six. The 50-run stand comes up in just 25 balls.
SIX! Punished! Paul gets the yorker wrong as it is a low full toss, on off and middle. KL needs no second invitation as he clobbers it over wide long on for a flat six. Rahul moves to 115, and this is now his highest ODI score, going past his previous best of an unbeaten 112 against New Zealand in Rajkot earlier this year.
Wide! Paul tries the wide yorker but he sprays it beyond the tramline. Rahul flashes but can only connect with thin air.
From around the wicket, on a good length, on middle. Brar has a swipe across the line. Ekes out an inside edge onto the pads. The batters cross over for a single as the ball drops on the off side.
Keemo Paul (8-0-49-0) will bowl the final over of the first innings.

Spears in a yorker, on middle. KL hurriedly gets his bat down and jams it out on the deck. Rahul can't retain the strike. 17 runs off the 49th over.
SIX! Launched down the ground. Yorker gone wrong for Seales and he is made to pay for it. It tails back in the slot for Rahul, who puts his head down and swings through the line, tonking it towards the sight screen for another maximum.
Wide! Down leg, Rahul fails to help it away.
SIX! That goes all the way, and it takes KL Rahul to his 9th ODI HUNDRED. India's man for all seasons comes through when called upon. A little too straight, on a back of a length with fine leg up inside the circle. Rahul leans inside the line and gets low to get under the ball and shovels it behind square leg for half a dozen. A superb innings built on composure, control and class, capped off with a century. Another reminder of just how valuable a player Rahul is for India.
Nasty ball. From around the wicket, a sharp bumper at the right shoulder. Brar gets his hands high and fends it awkwardly. The ball catches the shoulder of the blade and goes behind square leg for a single.
On a length, on middle. Rahul knocks it to long on and takes a single.
Leg-cutter by Seales, on a back of a length, on off. Rahul makes room for himself and tries to go inside out over cover but he loses his shape. One hand comes off the bat handle as he slices it over cover for a couple of runs. The throw from the deep is wayward, smack bang in the middle of the pitch and it rolls down to deep square leg but KL is happy with two.
Jayden Seales will bowl the penultimate over. 9-0-45-3 are his bowling figures so far. KL Rahul is just one hit away from a well-deserved century.

Back to nailing the yorker is Joseph, on leg. KL digs it out on the leg side and retains the strike with a single. Rahul shares a quick fist bump with Joseph after reaching the other end.
SIX! Up, up and away! Joseph misses his mark as he goes searching for the yorker. It is right in the slot, on midde. Rahul clears the front leg and gets under the ball, clubbing it way over deep mid-wicket for a biggie. KL moves to 93.
On a hard length, on off. Brar hops to ride the bounce and drops it beside the strip on the off side. The batters sneak in a quick single, which puts KL back on strike.
Very full, not allowing the batter to get under the ball. Rahul hangs deep in the crease and shanks it off the inner half to long on. Just a single.
Right in the blockhole, on middle. There is nothing KL can do about it as he jams it out.
Untidy in the field. Joseph slips in a full ball, on middle and leg. Rahul puts his head down and swings at the ball. Mishits it off the inner half towards wide long on. Matthew Forde sprints to his right but overruns the ball. He does manage to stop the ball from going past him by sticking out his left hand but cannot prevent the second run from being taken. Joseph is not happy one bit.
A slight halt in play as reserve player Dhruv Jurel carries out towels and water for both batters. And concerns for West Indies grow further as they have been penalised for a slow over rate. Meaning an extra fielder will need to be stationed inside the inner ring for the rest of the innings. Alzarri Joseph will bowl himself out this over.

Seales attempts the yorker but it comes out as a low full toss, tailing in at the pads. Rahul has a swing at it but he does so early. Toe-ends it down to long leg for just a single. A shake of the head by KL as he knows that he has missed out on a boundary opportunity.
Commentary
Over to the T20Is - Shubman Gill collects the trophy with mixed emotions. India take the series, but the bowling will be the lingering worry. Having conceded 405 in Guwahati and then failed to defend 351 in this game, they have plenty to work on before the bigger assignments ahead. West Indies, for their part, arrived with their pace attack billed as their real strength, but barring Jayden Seales, few of them left much of an impression with the ball. On the batting front, Justin Greaves, John Campbell and Amir Jangoo stepping up will be a big positive for them, showing they are not always dependent on Shai Hope alone. Up next is the T20I leg of the series, with the first of 5 T20Is to be played on Tuesday, 6th October, in Lucknow. The series opener will begin at 1.30 pm GMT (7 pm IST). We look forward to having you with us then. Cheers!
PLAYER OF THE SERIES - The captain of India, Shubman Gill, has been given the award for his batting brilliance in the series, scoring 334 runs, including a double century and a century. Gill says they ticked a lot of boxes but is quick to admit that there are a couple of areas that need fine-tuning. On the total, he says he was very happy with what India put up, feeling the game was well in control before being four overs behind, and also because of the dew, which allowed West Indies to snatch it away at the end. On holding back Kuldeep's final two overs, he points to some uncertainty around whether Gurnoor Brar would be back on the field, and wanted to save Kuldeep, a proven wicket-taker, for the business end of the innings. He sounds decently pleased with the team's overall progress but is clear there is still work to do. Stresses that fielding stands out as one area, with too many catches going down, and he wants it to be top-notch going forward. Secondly, he points to the death bowling. Says that needs fine-tuning too, with him admitting there are moments where it isn't clear whether the side is attacking or defending in those overs. These, he says, remain the key areas India need to improve on.
PLAYER OF THE MATCH - No prizes for guessing that the captain of West Indies, Shai Hope takes home the award for his stellar knock of 162 not out from 143 balls. Hope feels chasing in India is always a little easier, especially with the dew, and is delighted to finish the series on a strong note. He says a conversation with MS Dhoni helped him approach the chase differently, with the former India captain reminding him that batters often have more time than they think. Shares that he was aware that India's over-rate penalty would force them to bring more fielders inside the circle, so he was happy to remain patient. Reflecting on the series, Hope feels they, as a side, played some really good cricket in patches and is particularly pleased with the consistency shown by the batters. He hopes the bowling can improve going forward. With the T20I series starting in just two days, Hope is hopeful of recovering in time to be fit for the opener.
Time for the presentation ceremony...
Recap of the first innings - Wickets upfront with the new ball were missing for West Indies in the first two games, and Jayden Seales stepped up to end that wait. He accounted for Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli early on to reduce India to 4/2. If not for Ruturaj Gaikwad being dropped four times, it could have been an even worse start for the hosts. Gaikwad and Rohit Sharma brought about the recovery for the home side with a 137-run stand. Rohit fell short of a hundred, but KL Rahul's career-best 129 helped India reach 351, only for Shai Hope to outdo them all with a sensational knock.
Hope springs eternal - A finger injury to Jewel Andrew meant Shai Hope had to open the innings, and as it turned out, that was not a bad thing for West Indies. He was at the heart of the chase right from the start and held the innings together beautifully. Hope's 109-run stand with Amir Jangoo laid the platform before he forged useful partnerships with Sherfane Rutherford and Keemo Paul. Those stands ensured the chase never went off track, with the required run rate kept in check throughout. On either side of his 21st ODI century, Hope did lose some fluency, and the cramps only added to his challenge. India managed to push the required rate up during that period, but Hope eventually found his rhythm again, while Gudakesh Motie chipped in with some timely boundaries. That meant that from a position where West Indies needed 56 from 30 balls, they went on to get home with 10 balls to spare.
Let's hear from Keemo Paul - On his partnership with Hope, Paul reveals that the plan while batting alongside Hope was to keep the required run rate under 8 an over. Adds that, noticing Hope was struggling a touch, he knew it was on him to start taking a few more chances. Knowing they were a batter short, he credits the coaching staff for breaking the chase down into phases. Details that, having watched how India had batted earlier, he felt chasing was always slightly easier in these conditions, which kept the belief firm through the innings. On Shai Hope's innings, Paul calls him a modern-day legend for the West Indies, and rates his batting through this series as nothing short of incredible. On what this series means for him personally, Paul stresses that the main thing is not to get complacent. He adds he just wants to contribute whenever the team needs him and keep performing consistently. About his bowling, he points to the plans his side had over the past few games, with the focus purely on hitting the right lengths consistently.
A famous win for West Indies - What a way to finish the series. The Men in Maroon have pulled off their highest successful ODI chase, chasing down 352 to stun India and give themselves a huge confidence boost. Leading the charge was Shai Hope, who kept for 50 overs, opened the innings and battled cramps, but was undeterred and carried his side over the line with a superb century. India wanted to challenge themselves by batting first and defending a total, but with this defeat, they will have plenty of questions to answer about their bowling and fielding.
There's the winning run. And fittingly, it comes from the skipper's bat. West Indies win by 5 wickets and 10 balls to spare. A win for them on Indian soil in this format after a long, long time, and this one will taste much sweeter, having also avoided a series whitewash in the process. Tossed up on a fuller length, outside off. Hope hangs back and eases this one down to long off with the smoothest of drives for a single. A record-breaking chase for the men in maroon, and it is the captain, battling through a niggle for nearly half the innings, who finishes the job in style.
SIX! SCORES ARE LEVEL! A juicy full toss by Dhir, on the pads. Shai Hope gets down on his back knee and sweeps it aerially, clearing the deep fine leg fence for a biggie.
A game-sealing over for West Indies, 49 runs off the last 3. Naman Dhir has been handed the ball.

SIX! Goes the distance and that should be the game for West Indies. A massive over as 22 runs come from it. Just 7 runs needed off the last 12 balls. Short delivery around off and middle, Motie clears the front leg and nails the pull away over the long leg fence for a six.
TOP EDGE, FOUR! West Indies are in the ascendancy now. Comes from over the stumps and slams it hard into the pitch. Short on top of the stumps with a spongy bounce. Gudakesh Motie swings hard to pull over the leg side, but gets a massive top edge. The ball sails over the keeper and speeds to the fence behind.
At 128.9 kph, short on middle, Hope rides the bounce and pulls it to deep mid-wicket for a single.
FOUR! Makes the most of it. Too full and around the off stump, angling away from the batter. Shai Hope carves it wide of extra cover and beats Jadeja's chase to his right for a cracking boundary. 18 needed off 15 balls now.
FOUR! 150 up for Hope! And that's the second time he has reached this figure in his ODI career. Kamboj misses the yorker by a yard or so, continuing from around the stumps. Hope clears the front leg and swings it over wide mid-wicket for a boundary. And to make matters worse for India, it is a NO BALL for overstepping. Free Hit coming up!
The ball seems to have gone out of shape, and the fourth umpire is out with the box of balls. The replacement has been picked, and we are good to go.
A thigh-high full toss on the leg stump. Motie backs away to loft it over covers, but gets it high on the bat and shanks it over cover-point for just a single.
Steams in from around the stump and nails the yorker on the money, Shai Hope jams the bat down and squeezes it off the inside half towards deep backward square leg for a single. He hobbles through the first run and eyes a second, but it simply isn't on offer.
Pressure back on India. 27 runs off the last 2 overs. Anshul Kamboj is back. He is starting from around the wicket, with the field set for the wide yorker.

FOUR! Gets it away and there's the big over West Indies were looking for. 15 runs from it. 29 needed from 18. Brar goes for the yorker, but Motie reads it well, opening his stance to expose the stumps and steering it fine to the right of the backward point fielder for a boundary.
Short and outside off, Motie stands up on his toes and steers it to the left of deep third for a couple of runs. Anshul Kamboj should have thrown the ball to the bowling end, where Shai Hope was struggling to complete the run.
Play and a miss! Bangs it short and outside the off stump. Gudakesh Motie looks to play the ramp shot but the ball keeps climbing on him and beats the bat to sail behind to the keeper.
Short of a length, on middle, Shai Hope gets on top of the bounce and swats it on the bounce to long on for a single.
FOUR! HAMMERED AWAY! Overpitched by Brar, outside the off stump. Shai Hope gets under the ball properly and carves it powerfully, a bit flat and wide of the cover fielder for a cracking boundary. 36 needed off 22 balls now. This is getting really interesting.
FOUR! Through the gap! Expertly played by Hope. Brar slips in a low full toss, on the leg stump. Hope backs away to create room and slices it between the backward point and cover fielders for a boundary. A promising start to the over for West Indies.
Shai Hope is getting some fluids on board as he continues to deal with the cramps. India have been penalised for their slow over rate. They will be allowed only 4 fielders outside the 30-yard circle instead of 5 for the remainder of the innings.

Pitched on a length, drifting into the batter. Motie hangs back and whips it away to wide long on. Once again, they stay put. West Indies need 44 runs from 24 balls.
At the pads, on a length, Motie nudges it to deep mid-wicket, but they do not run.
A touch short, outside off, Hope hangs back and cuts it powerfully towards cover-point. Mohammed Siraj dives to his right and makes a half-stop with the ball parrying to the backward point region. One run taken.
Beats the bat! Quicker through the air, on a length, outside off. Shai Hope stays put and looks to cut it away, but the ball goes on to beat his outside edge.
Wide! Dishes out a googly, touch full and beyond the tramline. Hope lets it be.
FOUR MORE! That's a fine shot! A googly, full on leg. Shai Hope gets low on his back knee and sweeps it over backward square leg, finds the gap, and picks up another boundary.
SIX! The tourists will hope that this is one of many to come. Into the slot, at the stumps. Shai Hope gets on the front foot by collapsing his back knee and clubs it downtown for a six. West Indies cross 300 and need 50 runs to win from 29 balls.
Down to the last five overs we go, and West Indies seem to have hit a wall, with all the momentum sucked away from them since Keemo Paul's wicket. Meanwhile, Brar is once again rushing off the field.

Another dot. Banged in short, outside off. Motie flashes but is beaten for pace and he fails to connect.
Slips in the yorker, on off. Motie makes room and has a swing at it but fails to connect. Brar got excited for a moment there but the sound was from the bat hitting the turf.

Did that carry? Floated up, on off. Motie winds up and smashes it back towards the bowler. Kuldeep gets low to make the stop.
Half a shout for caught behind! Given as a wide by the umpire. Quicker through the air, on a good length. Motie tries to tickle it fine but fails to lay any bat on it. KL Rahul moves to his right and snaffles it before going up in an appeal. There was a noise but it seemed to be from the ball brushing the pad.
Going away, on a length. Hope punches it to long on for one more.
Flighted up, on off. Motie knocks it to long off for a single.
Kuldeep delivers yet again. The game has tilted a bit in India's favor. But with Hope still battling it out single-handedly, anything can happen. Gudakesh Motie is in at number 7.
OUT! TAKEN! End of a scratchy stay for Matthew Forde. Kuldeep serves the googly, on the shorter side, on off. Forde hops back in the crease and takes the risk of going against the turn as he looks to pull. He fails to get hold of it and holes out to deep mid-wicket, where Naman Dhir steadies himself in front of the boundary cushions and takes a safe catch. West Indies are now 290/5, requiring 62 runs from 39 balls.
FOUR! Up and over. Dropped short by Kuldeep, across off. Forde backs away and slams it over the head of the man at extra cover. The sub fielder, Yashasvi Jaiswal covers a lot of ground to his left from long off and dives but the ball sneaks under his hand and hits the boundary cushions.
On a good length, on middle. Forde tries to turn it away on the leg side but gets a soft leading edge back towards the bowler.
The asking rate is touching 9.5 for the West Indies. They really need to switch gears now. Kuldeep Yadav (8-0-43-0) is back for his final spell. He replaces Anshul Kamboj.

Direct hit! Brar attempts the yorker but it comes out as a low full toss with a bit of tail back into the right-hander. Forde brings his bat out in front and knocks it to mid off for a single. Shubman Gill has a shy at the batting end and his throw hits the stumps. The ball could have gone anywhere with the deflection but it dribbles to the keeper.
Nails the yorker, on off. Forde digs it out to backward point.
Bangs it in short, around the left shoulder. Matthew Forde leans inside the line to help the pull but is beaten for pace.
Full and angled in at the sticks. Hope clears the front leg and has a heave across the line. Miscues it off the inner half behind square leg for one.
FOUR! Incredible shot. Dug in short, over middle. Hope gives himself room, gets his hands high and hops as he plays the tennis forehand back over the bowler's head. The mid on and mid off fielders give chase but the ball wins the race.
Doing too much! Nipping back in and it skids through, on a good length. Forde plays all around it and wears it on the front pad. Brar bails out of the appeal quickly and gestures that it is going down leg. A leg bye is taken as the ball goes away on the off side.
It's getting spicy now. West Indies need 73 runs in 48 balls.

Fine stop. Full and darted in at the pads. Hope helps it away with the angle and the ball travels quickly to short fine leg, where Kuldeep Yadav dives to his right and saves a certain boundary. Just a single.
FOUR! Crunched. Right in the slot, on middle. Hope clears the front leg and gets his hands through the line, smashing it back past the bowler's head for a boundary.
CHANCE GOES DOWN! Not sure if Kuldeep Yadav would have managed to keep himself away from the ropes even if he had taken it. Kamboj digs it in short, over middle. Forde goes for the pull but the ball kicks up to take the top edge. It is skied a long way up to deep fine leg, where Kuldeep sprints to his right and gets his hands high to take the catch. He is very close to the boundary cushions with his eyes locked on the ball. It hits his palm and luckily for him, drops in the field of play.
At 134.4 kph, bowled on a length, on off. Forde walks down the track and pushes it to cover.
Fuller in length, on off. Shai caresses it to the left of extra cover and gets to the other end.
A swing and a miss! Angled in towards the off stump, on a nagging length. Hope has a swipe across the line but misses as the ball skids through and sneaks under the blade. Luckily for him, the bounce takes the ball over the off pole.
Anshul Kamboj (7-0-54-0) returns into the attack, replacing Nitish Kumar Reddy. He has been a touch expensive so far and is still searching for his maiden ODI wicket.

Hits the good length, on off. Forde stabs it down on the off side. End of a successful over for Brar and India. Two runs and the wicket of Paul.
A muted appeal for caught behind! No real conviction in the appeal from the Indians and they do not take the review. Zipping through, in and around the off stump, on a good length. Forde pushes out in front of his body with a straight bat but is beaten past the outside edge. KL Rahul gathers and shapes up to throw the ball up in the air in celebration but holds onto it. Flat line on UltraEdge, so there was no bat involved.
Bowled on a length, on middle and leg. Hope wrists it past mid-wicket for a single.
Pitches it up, on off and middle. Hope leans on and drives it down the deck. Brar sticks out his left hand and prevents the single. Hope had set off for the run and had to hobble back.
Angled into the hips, on a back of a length. Forde nurdles it to the right of mid-wicket for a single.
A dream return for Brar. Something was certainly brewing and India finally get a much-needed breakthrough. Still no signs of Jewel Andrew coming in. Matthew Forde walks in at number 6.
OUT! CAUGHT! Gurnoor Brar strikes on his return to the attack. Brar begins with a short ball, angled into the batter's bodyline. Paul takes a step or two down the track and swings across for the pull, but he is rushed, and the ball hits high on the bat. Hits it flat and straight down the throat of Nitish Kumar Reddy at deep square leg, who stays side on and takes the catch to his right. A good hand by Keemo, but Windies needed him to stay out there, considering the physical struggles for Shai Hope at the other end. West Indies are 271/4, needing 81 runs in 59 balls.
India scored 105 runs from their last 10 overs, while West Indies need 81 runs from the final 60 balls. It is advantage Windies at the moment, with 7 wickets in hand. Time for the third and final powerplay, and India can now station up to five fielders outside the 30-yard circle till the end of the match. Judging by their over rate, though, a penalty looks almost certain to follow. Gurnoor Brar is back into the attack.

Onto the pads, Shai whips this full toss to deep backward square leg for a single.
Excellent effort there by Kuldeep! Certainly saves a few runs there. Full and tailing in down the leg side, Paul flicks it away to the left of Kuldeep Yadav, who dives at short fine. Keeps the batters down to a single only.
Follows the batter with a laser-straight full delivery, does Nitish. Keemo Paul moves leg side while advancing down the track and looks to work it across but gets a thick inside edge onto the pads before the ball rolls to the off side.
FOUR! Good shot! Short from Nitish, on off, Keemo jumps down the track and swats it powerfully into the gap between long on and deep mid-wicket for a boundary.

Back of a length, angled in, Hope knocks it to mid on.
Short of a length, on the stumps. Paul pulls it to deep mid-wicket for one more.
Excellent work from Rohit Sharma, turning back the years with that one. OUT! EDGED AND GONE! Or is it? Sherfane Rutherford has taken the review almost immediately and looks pretty confident. There was a noise, but the replays seem to indicate that it could be from the bat clipping the back pad. This is dropped short and it skids through, cramping Sherfane for room. Rutheford hangs back and goes for the cut before it is snaffled by the keeper, KL Rahul. There is a spike on UltraEdge, and the third umpire agrees that the bat has grazed the back pad, but he finds no gap between the bat and the ball and asks the on-field umpire to stand by his decision of OUT. To be fair, there did appear to be a slight gap on the zoomed-in image, but it is worth remembering that the third umpire needs conclusive evidence to overturn the on-field decision. Rutherford cannot believe it, but he has no other option but to trudge off. Big moment in the game. Naman Dhir has his maiden ODI wicket. West Indies are 206/3, needing 146 runs from 120 balls.
Tosses it up, on middle. Hope eases it to long on and turns the strike over.
Full and drifting in, on off. Sherfane pushes it to long off and gets to the other end.
Very full, on middle. Shai whips it to wide long on and rotates the strike.
Flighted up, on middle. Hope leans and plays it back to Naman.
Short and spinning back in. Hope punches it back to the bowler.
Drinks Break! West Indies continue to make steady progress, with Hope taking it upon himself to bat deep into the innings. The captain inches closer to another century, but support from the other end remains crucial, and Sherfane Rutherford has done a fine job of providing exactly that. It has forced the Indian captain to go back to the drawing board for fresh ideas to produce a breakthrough. Concerningly, Gurnoor Brar has walked off and is yet to return, leaving India to operate with one proper bowler short. But West Indies themselves are running short on batting resources, with Jewel Andrew's participation still up in the air. So a wicket here could really swing things in the hosts' favour and pile the pressure right back on. There's still a lot left in this game. Also, KL Rahul is back on the field and returns to his keeping duties. Naman Dhir to bowl after the break.

Hope survives! This is angled in at the hips, on a back of a length. Hope hops and lifts his front leg as he attempts the pull. The ball skids through to graze the glove and brushes the thigh pad as well on its way to the keeper. KL Rahul leans forward to snaffle it. He completes the catch before going up in an appeal. It is sent upstairs for a check, where the replays show that the ball bounced in front before going into the keeper's gloves.
Big moment in the game. Is Hope strangled down the leg side? Brar seems confident, so does KL Rahul who dives low to his left scoop the ball before the ground. But is that a clean catch? And firstly, was there a bat/glove involved? The replay shows that the ball clipped the glove but it bounces on the ground just before nestling into KL's gloves. Big relief for Hope.

FIFTY FOR AMIR JANGOO! His third ODI half-century, and he gets there in 47 balls. Short of a length around off at 143.8 kph, and he crisply knocks it off the front foot towards mid off for a quick single. The fielder fires in a throw at the striker's end, but Hope is home well in time. Jangoo raises his bat to soak in the applause from his teammates, and the aim now will be to convert this into something much bigger, just as he did in the previous game, and support his skipper in this huge run chase.

PUT DOWN BY KOHLI! That took him by surprise. At 141.9 kmph, this is a hard-length delivery around the off stump. Jangoo gets on top of the bounce, punching it uppishly. The rifles low to the left of Virat at backward point, who is a fraction late to react. Still sticks out his left hand but it just doesn't stick and bursts through. A single is taken as the ball rolls behind.

As the physio comes out to check on Amir Jangoo, the umpires have taken the DRINKS BREAK. This has been a promising start to the chase for West Indies. Although the boundaries have dried up in the last few overs, they have kept the scoreboard ticking with ones and twos, and that will be the way to go for the tourists as they work their way towards the target. With uncertainty around Jewel Andrew and whether he will be fit enough to bat with that finger injury, a lot rests on this pair. India will need to stay patient, knowing this West Indies side is prone to collapses, meaning one wicket could trigger a domino effect.
Ouch, that one must have stung. A skiddy delivery, on a good length around off, and Jangoo is rushed into the pull shot, missing it completely. The ball cannons into his funny bone, around the left elbow, before rolling away to deep third for a leg bye. He looks in some pain and straightaway calls the physio.
Slightly back of a length, outside off, Amir Jangoo opens the bat face and steers it to the right of deep cover. Siraj sprints across and cuts it off in the deep. Two runs taken. With that, the 100 comes up for West Indies!

FOUR LEG BYES! Risk taken by John Campbell and he gets away with it. On middle and leg, on a nagging length. Campbell pre-empts the scoop. He walks across the stumps and gets down on a knee for the scoop but fails to lay any bat on it. Not much appeal from the bowler but KL Rahul behind the wickets appealed for LBW.

Tailing back in at the pads, on a length. Rahul looks to play the pick-up shot but misses and wears it on the pads.

Down leg, on a good length. Brar misses out on the tickle. Wide not given as the ball brushed the pads on its way to the keeper.
FOUR! A shot that any top order batter will be proud of. Joseph switches to around the wicket and lands it on a length, on off and middle. Brar stays rooted to the crease but extends his hands and just punches it away neatly. He threads the gap between cover and mid off and the ball wins the race against the mid off fielder.
Well, something to cheer for Alzarri Joseph on what has been another tough day for him, with a couple of chances going down off his bowling. Gurnoor Brar is in at number 9. Strikingly, the first left-hander on show today.
OUT! ANSHUL KAMBOJ IS RUN OUT! Good work by Alzarri Joseph. Another well-executed yorker, on middle and leg. Rahul gets the front leg out of the way and hurriedly gets his bat down. As the ball drops at his feet, the batters set off for the single, but there is a bit of hesitation and that leads to Kamboj's downfall. Joseph is quick to get to the ball on his follow-through and breaks the stumps. The third umpire is called into action. The replays find Anshul to be just short and that is the 7th wicket down for India at the score of 290.
Has Alzarri managed to effect the run out at the batting end? He rushes forward, scoops the ball up from right beside the stumps and breaks them in a flash, and the side-on replay confirms Kamboj was just short of his crease.
Bowled by going wide on the crease, another yorker at the toes. Rahul fails to get it away and gets hit on the pads.
Nails the yorker, on middle. KL digs it out.
FOUR! Another chance goes down, a tough one, though! Sprayed on the pads, full in length. Rahul helps it away with the angle. It flies behind to John Campbell at short fine leg, who is late to react. He moves to his right and stretches both hands to his right but the ball clips his fingertips and races behind towards the fence.

DRINKS BREAK! This has been a good phase for West Indies since dismissing Rohit Sharma, and they will be keen to make further inroads. It may not be long before Alzarri Joseph is brought back for another burst. Naman Dhir and Nitish Kumar Reddy are the two batters left in the shed, and after that it is down to the bowlers. OUT! CAUGHT! Gaikwad's luck finally runs out, and it is Seales who strikes on his return. That's wicket number three for him. He hits the deck hard and extracts good bounce off a length around off, catching Gaikwad off guard. Slow to pull his bat away, Gaikwad keeps it hanging away from his body, and the ball chips off the shoulder of the blade towards backward point, where John Campbell moves a few steps to his right and completes a good catch. Short ball outside off, and Rohit's eyes light up instantly, backing himself into the pull. But he gets it off the toe end this time, with the bat twisting in his hands, and the ball balloons high towards deep mid-wicket. Full in length, on the stumps, clipped away to mid-wicket. Another expensive over as 18 runs come from it. 0/31 in 2 overs for young Vitel Lawes.
SIX! Adds insult to injury. Drag-downer by Lawes, and Ruturaj just pulls it over the deep square leg fielder for a cracking six.
EDGED AND DROPPED! Gaikwad gets another reprieve. Fourth time, to be precise. On a slightly fuller length, spinning away from the batter. Ruturaj Gaikwad is drawn forward as he looks to drive it away but gets a faint edge to the keeper. Shai Hope fails to hold on to it and drops it down. Lawes is not pleased one bit.
Comes from around the stump now, does Vitel. Short, spinning in from middle, Rohit hangs back and punches it to long on for a run.
FOUR! Perfect field manipulation. Full and on the leg stump line, spinning in, Rohit once again reaches out in front by going down on one knee. Sweeps it behind square on the leg side this time, and it is hit along the ground, but into the backward square leg gap for a boundary.
SIX! Sails over the ropes and that brings the 100-run partnership between Rohit and Gaikwad. Drops it into the wheelhouse, full and on middle, Rohit Sharma gets down on one knee and nails the slog sweep perfectly over the deep mid-wicket fence for a six.

Lawes tries to stop the ball with his left boot but the ball is past him by then and the long off fielder cannot cut it off either.
Across off, full in length. Sharma knocks it to long off for a single.
Missed out! Loopy ball, the width is there for Rohit to cash in. He slams it hard but picks out Amir Jangoo at point. Sharma throws his head back in disappointment, as if this was in the gap, it would have been another boundary, as there is no protection in the deep.
FOUR! Rinse and repeat. Vitel tries to toss it up but ends up with a low full toss, across off. Rohit gives himself a bit of room, extends his hands and carves it past cover for four more.

Tucking the batter up for room, on a back of a length. Gaikwad turns it to mid-wicket.
A slight halt as the umpires are not happy with the ball's shape. Keemo Paul is down on his haunches as well, evidently struggling with the heat. The umpires call DRINKS on the field as they try to sort the issue with the ball during this break. West Indies have made Indian batters work really hard for every run, getting rid of Gill and Kohli early doors. Both Rohit and Gaikwad have also survived a fair share of chances, but they have managed to somewhat steady the ship through a 50-run partnership which is developing cautiously. They will look to park themselves at the crease and form a huge partnership, and this is a great opportunity for the Indian middle order to step up in need on a pitch that is not as flat as the previous two games. The tourists, meanwhile, will be aiming to put an end to this budding stand as quickly as possible to get into an untested Indian middle order. Looks like the ball has been changed mid-break and we are good to resume.
SIX! All the way. India go past 50, and the 50-run stand also comes up between these two batters. Paul goes short but fails to get it high enough to trouble the batter, outside off. Alzarri Joseph just turns around and helplessly walks back to his mark. Joseph digs it in short but the line is around leg. The ball seems to have stopped on Ruturaj, who chips it down the deck. Joseph goes for the catch with an outstretched right hand but the ball stays out of his reach and dribbles away.

Massive appeal from Seales for LBW, but the umpire shakes his head. Shai Hope takes no time to review it and challenge the on-field decision. But maybe height could be a factor here. West Indies (Playing XI) - John Campbell, Jewel Andrew, Shai Hope (C/WK), Amir Jangoo, Sherfane Rutherford, Keemo Paul, Matthew Forde, Gudakesh Motie, Alzarri Joseph, Vitel Lawes and Jayden Seales. IN - Jewel Andrew, Matthew Forde, Gudakesh Motie. OUT - Keacy Carty, Roston Chase, Shamar Joseph.
India (Playing XI) - Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill (C), Virat Kohli, Ruturaj Gaikwad, KL Rahul (WK), Nitish Kumar Reddy, Naman Dhir, Anshul Kamboj, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj and Gurnoor Brar. IN - Anshul Kamboj (On ODI Debut), Nitish Kumar Reddy, Mohammed Siraj. OUT - Prasidh Krishna (Injured), Ravindra Jadeja, Auqib Nabi.
The captain of West Indies - Shai Hope says they would have bowled first had he won the toss, so he is happy with what they are doing. On where the batting can improve, he keeps the focus on consistency with the bat, pointing out that his side has actually batted really well through the series so far. The bigger area to fix, he adds, is with the ball, where the team needs to execute its plans far better. On the exposure for the young players in the squad, Hope rates it highly, pointing out that coming to India and taking on the best team in the world is exactly the kind of challenge that accelerates growth for his younger players. About the team changes, he jokingly says that they have three changes in the playing XI, but he won't be running his head around remembering all of them.
The Indian captain - Shubman Gill feels the first 3-4 overs could offer a bit for the bowlers, but once the surface settles, it should become a really good wicket to bat on. Gill is pleased with how the batting has gone so far, but admits there have been concerns with the bowling at times. He says the important thing is to take the learnings from those moments and keep getting better. Even saving 15-20 runs can make a big difference, he adds. Shubman also feels that given the inexperience, the more the bowling group plays together, the more they will understand each other's games, which should make a huge difference going forward.
TOSS - It's time for the coin to go up in New Chandigarh. Both captains - Shubman Gill and Shai Hope - are all in readiness. Tails is the call from Hope, but it comes down as Heads. India have elected to BAT first.
In conversation with Naman Dhir - When asked by Ian Bishop how his body is feeling after the second game, Naman says it was not an injury but simply a cramp brought on by the heat. He is feeling fine now and is ready to go. On playing at home, Naman says it is a special moment for him, having started his cricketing journey here. His family will also be in attendance, making the occasion even more special. On his journey, Naman says he was considering moving to Canada after COVID-19, having struggled to find a breakthrough after representing Punjab at the Under-16 level. His father, however, encouraged him to give cricket one more year. That decision paid off as he was picked for the Ranji Trophy, followed by the IPL, and his journey really took off from there. Having not got a chance with the bat in the first two games, Naman says he would love some time in the middle, especially in front of his home crowd. That said, he does not mind if the opportunity does not come as long as the team keeps winning.
Gold on its way - While one Indian side chases a clean sweep in New Chandigarh, another side, led by Shreyas Iyer, is locked in battle with Pakistan on foreign soil, fighting for Gold in the Asian Games final over in Japan. They are in a strong position after smashing 211 in the first innings. As per the latest reports, Pakistan need 52 runs in 18 balls. And while they have shown real fighting spirit, the equation looks just a shade too steep to pull off. While we wait for the toss and team updates from this game, feel free to switch tabs to follow the closing stages of that final in Nisshin. But don't forget to join us back in time as the coin flip is about five minutes away.
PITCH REPORT - Former India spinner Murali Kartik is pitchside and starts by informing us that a black-soil surface will be used for the game. The square boundaries are 68 metres, while it is 74 metres straight down the ground, with the dimensions fairly similar to those in Guwahati. Former West Indies batter Daren Ganga joins him and observes an even covering of grass across the surface. He expects good batting conditions, with consistent pace and bounce on offer, although the spinners could come into play as the ball gets older. For the pacers, Ganga feels hitting the 7-8 metre length consistently will be key to challenging the batters both in the first Powerplay and beyond. Ganga feels chasing is the way to go, but Kartik believes India may want to challenge themselves by batting first and then trying to defend a total.
All set for the debut - News coming from the center is that Anshul Kamboj is set to make his ODI debut. He was handed the debut cap a few minutes ago. And in a special touch, it came from none other than Virat Kohli. Called away midway through an India A red-ball game, Kamboj now finds himself in the mix, replacing the injured Prasidh Krishna.
Dominance like no other - India have now reeled off 14 straight ODI bilateral series wins against West Indies, home or away, a streak running all the way back to January 2007, when the greats like Rahul Dravid and Brian Lara were the captains of the respective sides. Nearly two decades of total dominance, and the Caribbean side still hasn't managed to crack it. Their last ODI win over India on Indian soil, in fact, goes back to 2019. For a side already searching for answers, these numbers only add to the mountain they must climb.
Not all doom and gloom - For all the disappointments West Indies have endured on this tour, there is a bigger picture worth noticing. Four centurions have come off their bats across the series, three of them in the previous game alone, and crucially, this batting unit hasn't looked like a one-man show built around Shai Hope. John Campbell has lit the fuse at the top with real intent, while Amir Jangoo has held the fort in the middle, pacing his innings beautifully. The bowling, though, has let them down badly, as even the experienced hands have been tonked for plenty. Still, for a side that has lost the series, the signs of genuine depth are hard to ignore. With the World Cup qualifiers now the immediate focus, West Indies have built a good crop of players to bank on going forward.
Building blocks for the next year - India's build-up to the 2027 World Cup has begun on the right track. Rohit and Kohli both rolled back the years with centuries of their own, while captain Shubman Gill went several notches further, turning his hundred into a daddy double century and emerging as the chief architect behind India's historic 406-run chase in Guwahati. The batting has been so relentless that the middle order hasn't even had a proper look in yet. This time around, expect India to shuffle the pack a touch. On the bowling front, only Kuldeep Yadav has looked genuinely threatening among the lot, while the pacers will need to find a sharper gear and tighten the screws massively.
Sweep or salvage? The three-match ODI series between India and West Indies has travelled far, from the southern coastline of Trivandrum to the gateway to the northeast in Guwahati, and now pulls into its final stop in the land of five rivers, Punjab. It's also a special occasion as Mullanpur is set to host its maiden ODI, becoming India's 52nd ODI venue. The Men in Blue have already sealed the series 2-0 and have their eyes set on a clean sweep, while the Men in Maroon will be desperate to salvage some pride and get across the line this time around. On that note, hello and welcome to our coverage of the third and final ODI from New Chandigarh.
... MATCH DAY ...
The series finale - From the banks of the Brahmaputra, the series has now rolled into Mullanpur for what is essentially a dead rubber. India have already wrapped up the series with that record chase in Guwahati, but with the World Cup to build towards for both sides, albeit via very different paths, there is no such thing as a dead rubber as far as either side is concerned. Opportunities await - With the series already won, there is room to experiment, and if the top order happens to falter for once, it opens the door for the likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad and KL Rahul, plus the all-rounders further down, to finally get some time in the middle. Worth remembering that Rahul and everyone below him in the order haven't faced a single ball across the first two games. The pace worry - We have seen a number of South Africa's quicks go down with hamstring injuries lately, and India haven't been spared either, with Prasidh Krishna the latest to join the list. He is ruled out of this finale and is now a doubt for the New Zealand tour too. Anshul Kamboj has been pulled straight out of the India A red-ball game against Australia A and flown in as cover. With Mohammed Siraj already sitting on the bench, this looks more like insurance against any last-minute scare than a direct replacement. Progress despite the scoreline - West Indies will take plenty from how they batted in Guwahati despite the defeat. Three centuries and a highest-ever ODI score of 405 is nothing to scoff at. The frustrating bit, though, is that they probably left a few runs out there, managing just 76 in the final 10 overs after setting themselves up so well. That is the kind of thing Shai Hope would have brought up in the dressing room afterwards as a lesson to bank as they build towards the World Cup Qualifiers. The new ball challenge - Justin Greaves, their centurion from the opener, missed the second game with a calf injury and remains a doubt here too, and his absence has cost them a bowling option across both matches. That said, conditions in Guwahati gave their attack precious little to work with, so it would be harsh to pin everything on them. Even so, taking wickets upfront with the new ball is the one non-negotiable if they are to put up any sort of fight against this Indian lineup. Alzarri Joseph, who has leaked runs at 10 an over through the series so far, will be the man most eager to turn things around. Form (Last 5 completed ODIs, most recent first) - IND - WWLLW | WI - LLWLL. Another run fest? A whopping 811 runs were scored in Guwahati, the third-highest aggregate in an ODI overall and the second-highest in an ODI in India. Considering the reputation the PCA International Cricket Stadium has already built for itself, another high-scoring affair would hardly come as a surprise. This will be the first men's ODI at the venue, but the IPL earlier this year showed that batters can dominate here, with the ground producing the second-highest run rate. So, expect another surface where the batters could have plenty of fun, with the bowlers likely needing to work hard for their rewards.
