Commentary
We are back for the chase! The players are already out in the middle now. Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma are the two openers for India Women. Marufa Akter to start proceedings with the ball. Here we go..
... THE RUN CHASE ...
A mixed day in the field - India Women had a mixed outing in the field, dropping four catches inside the first five overs and conceding 10 extras in total, allowing Bangladesh a few opportunities to build partnerships. However, the bowlers did an excellent job of keeping the scoring in check at the death. Radha Yadav led the way with a fine three-wicket haul, while Renuka Singh provided the early breakthrough and Nandni Sharma chipped in with a wicket. Sree Charani then produced an excellent double-wicket final over, a spell that also saw her become India's highest wicket-taker in a single Women's T20 World Cup. Bangladesh defended 123 against Pakistan Women earlier in the tournament, but can they do it again with 136 on the board? A fascinating chase awaits.
A measured effort with the bat - Despite losing an early wicket, Bangladesh Women never pressed the panic button. Juairiya Ferdous and Sobhana Mostary steadied the innings beautifully with a crucial 51-run partnership, laying the foundation for a competitive total. Captain Nigar Sultana then kept the momentum going with a fluent 32 off 27 deliveries, while Shorna Akter and Ritu Moni provided some late fireworks. However, Bangladesh may feel they left a few runs out there, with the final five overs not quite yielding the finish they would have hoped for.
Tigresses throw down the gauntlet - Bangladesh Women have given themselves a real chance with a spirited batting effort, posting 136/8, their highest-ever total batting first in a Women's T20 World Cup. They were smart with their shot selection and made India Women work hard in the field, with the latter guilty of several costly errors. Crucially, Sree Charani's superb final over, which yielded just three runs and two wickets, may yet prove decisive.

A fumble on the final ball and that sums up India's effort in the field today. Bangladesh finish on 136/8. Low full toss, on off. Marufa Akter makes a bit of room and drills it to extra cover. It goes on the bounce to Harmanpreet Kaur, but she lets it through. It goes behind, and the batters come back for the second run.
Who will face the last ball of the innings? It will be Marufa Akter.
OUT! IN THE AIR AND GONE! High but not long enough. Darted in again by Charani, full and on middle. Nahida Akter gives the bowler the charge, looking to go down the ground. She gets the height but not the distance. It is skied to long on, where Jemimah Rodrigues settles under it, bends and gobbles it up close to her body.
Rapped on the pads! The impact looked outside the line there but Harmanpreet Kaur wants to take a chance. Fired in, on a length, around off. Nahida Akter goes for the reverse but misses and gets hit on the pads. As it turns out, the UltraEdge shows a spike when the ball is close to the glove. The on-field call is upheld.
Nahida Akter walks out to bat now.
OUT! CAUGHT! 11th wicket in this tournament for Sree Charani. She now has the most wickets for India in a single edition of a Women's T20 World Cup, according to the on-air commentators. Sree goes searching for the yorker again. It comes out as a low full toss, on off. With the field up on the off side, Shorna makes room to go through the in-field. The bat turns in her hand and Shorna slices it straight to cover, where Renuka Singh Thakur takes the catch around her waist.
In the blockhole in line with the off stump. Shorna makes room and squeezes it out to backward point.
Very full, around off. Rabeya Khan shuffles across and sweeps it to deep backward square leg for a single.
Sree Charani to bowl the final over. Can she keep Bangladesh Women under 140 here?

Flatter, full and on middle, Rabeya Khan gets down and swipes it to deep square leg for a single.
The next batter in is Rabeya Khan.
OUT! CASTLED! Radha Yadav has her third wicket. Nails the yorker, on middle and leg. Moni is standing a bit outside the crease. She makes room to thrash it through the off side. The ball sneaks under the blade and crashes into the stumps. Bangladesh are 128/6.
FOUR! In the gap! Floated up, on off, on a length. Moni gets low, reaches out in front and plays the hard sweep through square leg. Nandni Sharma sprints to her left in the deep and dives but in vain.
Another error. Tossed up, on a good length, on off. Moni advances to go down the ground. Slices it off the outer half towards cover-point, where Smriti Mandhana runs to her right, but the ball drops in front and spins away, allowing Moni to come back for the second run.
Untidy in the field. Speared in, on a length, on off. Moni tucks it to square leg. Yastika Bhatia gets to the ball from short fine leg but gets into a tangle as she dives and the batters are alert enough to sneak in the second run.
Radha Yadav to bowl the penultimate over. Also, Bangladesh Women have decided to retire out Sharmin Akhter and bring in Ritu Moni for her boundary-hitting ability.
Sharmin Akhter has not recovered from the injury suffered and won't be able to participate any more with the bat. As it stands, Sharmin Akhter is retired out.

Just wide! Across off, on a length. Sharmin Akhter shimmies down the track and slams it back past the bowler. Deepti is caught wrong-footed as she was moving to her right. She sticks out her left hand, but the ball is past her by then. Single taken as Jemimah Rodrigues mops it up at long on.
Gets a yorker in at the toes from around the wicket. Sharmin Akhter digs it out. A throw in frustration at the batting end by Deepti.
Nice and full, on middle. Shorna turns it through square leg and rotates the strike.
FOUR! Shorna Akter makes the Free Hit count. Loopy ball, on middle. Akter steps out, takes the ball on the full and smacks it to the right of the diving extra cover fielder for a boundary.
No Ball! Switches to over the wicket now, on a length, on middle. Akter pushes it to the right of the bowler. Deepti moves to her right and tidies up. Oh, dear, Deepti has overstepped once again. Free Hit to follow.
Tosses it up, on a good length, on middle. Sharmin Akhter steps out and wrists it to the left of deep square leg for only a single.
On the pads, on a length. Shorna clips it to deep mid-wicket and gets to the other end.
Commentary
All done in Manchester - The focus now shifts to Bristol for the second game of the day, where the Netherlands take on South Africa. The Dutch have won the toss and opted to bowl first. You can switch tabs and join us there for all the action. Cheers!
The skipper of India Women - Harmanpreet Kaur says that it is a good win. Adds that they wanted to finish it earlier, but still, they got the job done with 2-3 overs to spare. Mentions that fielding is very important, and they are trying to improve but they dropped a few catches in this game. She says they hope to put in a much better fielding performance in the next game. While the team boasts some of the best fielders around, occasional off days are part of the sport. She adds that the focus remains on working hard, taking plenty of catches in training, and ensuring they are in the right positions on the field. Looking ahead, she acknowledges that Australia are one of the toughest opponents they can face. With every game in the tournament carrying huge importance, she believes the team must produce its very best. She feels a win over Australia would provide a massive confidence boost, much like their victory in Navi Mumbai, which helped break barriers and instilled belief within the group.
The captain of Bangladesh Women - Nigar Sultana says they created plenty of chances but failed to take them and allowed India to take the game away. She feels they bowled well but reckons they finished 15-20 runs short with the bat. When asked about the chat during the second drinks break, she says that they believed anything was possible if they kept bowling in the right areas and created opportunities. Believes that success is not just about results and is pleased with how the team continues to grow day by day. Looking ahead, she says playing at Lord's will be a special occasion and hopes Bangladesh can create lasting memories there.
Time to hear from the two captains...
Recap of the first innings - Earlier, India were untidy in the field, to say the least, putting down as many as four catches in the first five overs of the innings. Bangladesh found boundaries hard to come by, but to their credit, they ran hard between the wickets to keep the scoreboard ticking. Useful contributions from Juairiya Ferdous, captain Nigar Sultana and the rest of the batting unit helped them battle their way to 136.
Not all smooth sailing - A strong start was important for India after their sloppy effort in the field, and Shafali Verma ensured there were no early nerves by getting off the blocks quickly and taking control of the chase. She was handed an early reprieve when Nigar Sultana dropped her on 4, and Bangladesh were made to pay. One wonders how differently the chase might have unfolded had the captain held on to that chance. After Shafali's dismissal, India's middle order made much harder work of the chase than they would have liked. There were signs of a batting unit still searching for confidence, particularly with some hesitant running between the wickets.
PLAYER OF THE MATCH - Shafali Verma has been given the award for her impressive knock of 53 runs from 34 balls. Shafali says that she is very happy with the way she batted in this game. Adds that she would be happier if she stayed unbeaten, but it was good to grab some runs. Mentions that she tried to put the bad balls away, but also rotated strike and played on the merit of the ball. Shafali shares that she was sad with the way she got out. Says that she has been bowling with new and old balls in the nets and credits skipper Harmanpreet Kaur for giving her good fields and showing confidence in her.
India get the job done - It was far from a convincing win, but India will gladly take the two points. Their attention now turns to a must-win clash against Australia. Bangladesh, meanwhile, deserve credit for the way they hung in the game after India flew out of the blocks. They must now beat South Africa in their final group game and hope India lose to Australia to have any chance of reaching the semifinals. Even then, their inferior net run rate leaves them with a mountain to climb.
FOUR! Deepti Sharma hits the winning runs. INDIA WOMEN WIN BY 5 WICKETS! Nahida Akter delivers a full toss, around off, Deepti gets a bit across and whacks it to the deep mid-wicket fence for a boundary.
Flighted, full and on off, Harmanpreet Kaur stays back and taps it to the off side. She sets off for the run, while Nahida Akter runs towards the ball as well. She has a shy at the bowler's end with Kaur having to hurry, but the ball misses the stumps. A direct hit would have had Kaur here.
FOUR! Gets it away! A low full toss, on middle, there to be hit. Harmanpreet Kaur gets down on one knee and swipes it away to the deep square leg fence for a boundary. India Women are just one hit away from the win now.
Flighted, full and outside off, Harmanpreet Kaur throws her hands at it but misses.
Floated, short and outside off, Harmanpreet Kaur cuts it away straight to point.

OUT! CAUGHT! Jemimah Rodrigues perishes trying to attack again. This is fuller and on middle, holds its line. Jemimah Rodrigues looks to slog it down the ground once again but gets a top edge this time. It lobs up towards short third, where Marufa Akter takes a dolly, moving to her right. Jemimah Rodrigues's gem of a knock comes to an end.
FOUR! Jemimah Rodrigues is in a hurry now! Pitched up and on middle and leg, Rodrigues gets right underneath it, targets the straighter boundary and tonks it between long on and long off for another boundary. India Women need just 9 runs to win now.
FOUR! Sloppy in the field! Touch fuller and on middle, Jemimah Rodrigues clears her front leg and hits through the line. She smacks it past the bowler and to the right of long off, where the fielder makes a meal of it and lets it through for a boundary.
Hard length and on off, Harmanpreet Kaur steps across and nudges it through mid-wicket for a single. Kaur and Jemi almost ran into each other while taking that run.

FOUR! 15 runs off the over. Rodrigues moves to the off side and Meghla tries to follow her with a length ball. Jemimah gets the width to work with and she slams it to the left of long off for a boundary. India need 18 more runs.
Slows it down now, on a length, on off. Jemimah reaches out and goes inside out over cover for a couple of runs.
SIX! That will ease a bit of pressure. Angled in, from around the wicket, a bit too full, on middle and leg. Rodrigues collapses her back knee and pumps it over mid on for a biggie.
Stays on the shorter side, on off. Kaur chops it down wide of point and crosses over.
Drops it short again, on off. Rodrigues cuts it away to deep point for one.
Harmanpreet Kaur was gone had the throw hit. Short and on off. Kaur stands tall and dabs it in front of point. Rodrigues calls her through for a single but Kaur is late to respond. Harman had given up but the throw from the point fielder at the bowling end is well wide of the stumps.
DRINKS! Bangladesh Women have pulled things back in the last couple of overs, but one would feel that India Women are still ahead in this chase. With the experienced pair of Jemimah Rodrigues and Harmanpreet Kaur out there, India will be confident that they will get over the line, but Bangladesh Women almost broke this stand and know that a couple of quick wickets and things will get interesting here. Also, Sanjida Akter Meghla to bowl after the break.

A massive mix-up but no harm done. Bangladesh miss a big chance. Full and darted in, on middle. Kaur sweeps but mistimes the shot towards square leg. Rodrigues is keen for a single and is nearly halfway through the run. The square leg fielder swoops in and throws it at the bowling end with Jemi struggling to return. The throw is a bit away from the stumps but Nahida Akter gets low to gather it. She lets it through her legs. There is a fielder to back up the throw and she flicks the ball onto the stumps at the bowling end but Rodrigues gets home with a dive by then.
Angled in at the hips, on the shorter side. Rodrigues clips it to deep mid-wicket for a run.

Tossed up, fuller and on off. Rodrigues eases the drive to wide long off for one more. The 100 is up for India.
Full and attacking the front pad. Kaur stabs it down beside the strip on the leg side and takes a quick single.
Bangladesh Women are not giving up here. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur walks out to bat now.
OUT! LBW! This looks straight, but Richa Ghosh still goes for the review. Drifting into the right-hander, on a length, on middle. Ghosh gets down on a knee for the sweep but misses it completely. The ball grazes the right shoulder before hitting the crouched back thigh, in front of the stumps. No bat involved, and the Ball Tracking comes up as umpire's call with the ball clipping the top of the middle stump. The on-field call stays. India are now 4 down for 98, requiring 39 more runs.

Given LBW but successfully overturned. Turning away, on a good length, around off. Ghosh reaches out in front and goes hard on the sweep. The ball spins away to beat the bat. It goes under the right shoulder and catches the batter on the body. A loud shout and the finger is raised. Richa Ghosh reviews almost immediately. No bat involved, but the Ball Tracking shows that the impact is outside the line. The on-field call is overturned.
FOUR! And again. Closer to the off stump but the length stays short, on off. Ghosh waits on it and cuts it late to the left of backward point for four more.
FOUR! Width offered and Ghosh pounces on it. Short and wide on off, a bit of turn that takes the ball away from the batter. Tossed up, full and around off, Richa Ghosh gets forward and guides it to short third.
Right then, India have sent Richa Ghosh in ahead of Jemimah Rodrigues and Harmanpreet Kaur. That suggests they have one eye on the net run rate.
OUT! STUMPED! Great presence of mind from Bangladesh's skipper. Nahida Akter bowls this short and outside off, Shafali Verma looks to cut it away but ends up chopping it off the bottom edge onto the pitch. The ball goes behind and hits the pads of the keeper, but Nigar Sultana collects it on the second attempt. Shafali is not aware where the ball is and steps out of her crease, while Sultana breaks the stumps. Shafali's hand is on her head as she knows she has made a mistake here. India are 76/2, needing 61 more runs from 68 balls.

Touch slower, pitched up and on off, Shafali Verma jams it out to sweeper cover for a run.
On a length and around off, Yastika Bhatia drills it through cover-point for a single.
Full again and on off, Yastika Bhatia drives it but finds cover.
Fuller and on middle, Yastika Bhatia knocks it down the pitch, where Ritu Moni dives to her right on the follow-through to make the stop.
DRINKS! 63/1 is India's highest Powerplay score in Women's T20 World Cup history, according to Charles Dagnall. Bangladesh are being made to pay for dropping Shafali Verma in the opening over, and they have been a touch too full and repeatedly fed her scoring arc. India could look to put the foot down even further if they get within touching distance of the target and give their net run rate a healthy boost, which could prove crucial should qualification come down to that.

OUT! TAKEN IN THE DEEP! Renuka Singh Thakur draws first blood on her return to the side. Renuka bangs this into the pitch, on middle. Beauty to start! Shafali Verma floats this one up, full and on off, Dilara Akter prods forward and plays for the turn, but the ball keeps straight and beats the outside edge.
All set and ready to go, then. The Indian players look fairly relaxed as they gather for one final huddle before taking the field. Juairiya Ferdous and Dilara Akter are the two openers for Bangladesh. As they did against South Africa, India are starting with spin in the form of Shafali Verma. Dilara will take strike. Let's go...
The giant flags have been rolled out, and it is time for the national anthems. The match officials lead the way before Harmanpreet Kaur and Nigar Sultana lead their respective sides out on the park. It will be Bangladesh's national anthem first, followed by that of India.
Bangladesh Women (Unchanged Playing XI) - Juairiya Ferdous, Dilara Akter, Sharmin Akhter, Nigar Sultana (C/WK), Sobhana Mostary, Shorna Akter, Ritu Moni, Nahida Akter, Rabeya Khan, Marufa Akter and Sanjida Akter Meghla.
India Women (Playing XI) - Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, Yastika Bhatia, Jemimah Rodrigues, Harmanpreet Kaur (C), Richa Ghosh (WK), Deepti Sharma, Radha Yadav (In for Prema Rawat), Sree Charani, Nandni Sharma and Renuka Singh Thakur (In for Arundhati Reddy).
The skipper of India Women - Harmanpreet Kaur believes this is a good wicket to bat on. Mentions that if you spend some time in the middle, you can score runs, but there is also something in it for the spinners. Kaur says that it is important they adapt to the conditions and react accordingly. When asked whether net run rate will be on their minds or if the focus is simply on winning, Harmanpreet replies that the team's priority is to secure the victory.
The captain of Bangladesh Women - Nigar Sultana says that in this sort of game, they want to put runs on the board. Adds that this is an important match for them, and everyone needs to be at their best and make the moments count. Mentions that the batters have been a bit inconsistent, but hopefully they can turn up, and the bowlers have been doing a fantastic job. Informs that they are unchanged.
TOSS - Time for the coin to go up on a warm afternoon in Manchester. Harmanpreet Kaur and Nigar Sultana are present in the middle. Harman gives it a flick. Nigar calls it correctly, and Bangladesh elect to BAT first.
PITCH REPORT - Former Indian batter, Veda Krishnamurthy is near the deck. She informs that this is the second game to be played on this surface, having previously hosted the India-South Africa clash. Mentions it is a dry wicket with visible cracks, suggesting batting could become increasingly challenging as the game progresses. Shares that spinners played a major role on this pitch in the previous game and are expected to be influential once again. Believes that the pacers will need to rely on their variations. Feels that 160-170 could be a par score on this wicket.
Bangladesh still fighting - Bangladesh's campaign has been a story of resilience. They were comfortably beaten by Australia, but reignited their hopes by defending just 123 against Pakistan in one of the surprises of the tournament. Captain Nigar Sultana remains the anchor of the batting unit, while Shorna Akter and the aggressive Juairiya Ferdous have shown glimpses of their ability. With the ball, Nahida Akter and Sanjida Akter Meghla have been outstanding, consistently applying pressure and giving Bangladesh a fighting chance. They know they need something special to keep their semi-final hopes alive, but this side has already shown that it thrives when expectations are low. Stay tuned for toss and other updates.
India eye another big step - India's campaign has had its ups and downs, but they remain firmly in control of their own destiny. They opened with an emphatic win over Pakistan before brushing aside the Netherlands, only to suffer a setback against South Africa. Smriti Mandhana has once again looked in sublime touch, Shafali Verma's attacking starts have given India early momentum, and captain Harmanpreet Kaur's experience remains vital in the middle order. Deepti Sharma has been influential with both bat and ball, while Sree Charani has impressed with her knack of picking up key wickets. With a final group-stage clash against the unbeaten Australians still to come, India will know there is little room for complacency.
The race to semis intensifies - The ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 rolls into Old Trafford in Manchester for another crucial Group A encounter as India Women take on Bangladesh Women. Welcome to what promises to be a fascinating evening of cricket, with the race for the semi-finals entering its decisive phase. Australia have one foot in the last four, leaving India, South Africa and Bangladesh battling for the remaining semi-final berth. Both India and Bangladesh have two wins from three matches, and neither side can afford another slip-up. With the margin for error rapidly shrinking, the stakes could hardly be higher.
... MATCH DAY ...
Asian rivalry renewed - At Old Trafford in Manchester, India and Bangladesh lock horns in a crucial Group A encounter with both sides in contention for a semifinal berth. The Women in Blue have history heavily on their side, having won 20 of the 23 meetings between the two teams in T20Is, including each of the last 7 encounters. They have also emerged victorious in all three of their previous meetings at Women's T20 World Cups. While this tournament is yet to produce a major upset, several of the lower-ranked sides have pushed the fancied teams hard and threatened to spring a surprise. Bangladesh will believe they have it in them to produce a special result. No room for error - India began their campaign with two wins from two matches, but the defeat to South Africa has complicated their path to the semifinals. With the Proteas still to face the Netherlands and Bangladesh, fixtures they will back themselves to win, another loss for India could prove costly. The Women in Blue found themselves in a similar position during last year's ODI World Cup when their campaign threatened to veer off course before they recovered and eventually went all the way. They will hope history repeats itself. Reliance on the openers - India's opening pair has shouldered much of the batting responsibility so far. All three of the team's half-centuries in the tournament have come from the openers, with Smriti Mandhana accounting for two and Shafali Verma one. The remainder of the batting unit has not quite clicked in the manner India would have liked. Jemimah Rodrigues has managed just 32 runs from three innings, while Harmanpreet Kaur has not batted with the fluency that has become synonymous with her game. With the stakes rising, India will be hoping for greater contributions from the middle order. Spin doing the damage - India's spinners have dominated proceedings with the ball. Out of the 24 wickets they have picked in the tournament, 21 have fallen to spin, highlighting just how influential that department has been. Sree Charani has been the standout performer for India with 10 wickets to her name and has risen to the number 1 spot in the ICC Women's T20I bowling rankings. Meanwhile, Shafali Verma has embraced a much larger role with the ball than many anticipated. No longer just a part-time option, she delivered an impressive spell against South Africa and has helped soften the blow of Shreyanka Patil's absence. Concerns beyond spin - While the spin attack has flourished, India's seamers have struggled to make a similar impact. Kranti Gaud and Arundhati Reddy remain wicketless in the tournament and have lacked the penetration needed to trouble opposition batters. That lack of impact with the new ball remains a concern. Renuka Singh Thakur is yet to feature in the tournament and arrives on the back of an indifferent run of form. However, with a crucial game ahead, India may yet be tempted to lean on her experience in the hope that she can rediscover her rhythm on the big stage. Fielding remains another concern. It has been India's Achilles heel for some time now, and it proved costly against South Africa. The chances offered to Marizanne Kapp came back to haunt them, with the Proteas all-rounder going on to play a match-winning hand. Belief growing - Bangladesh head into this contest on the back of a remarkable win over Pakistan. Having posted only 123, they produced a disciplined display to secure a memorable 23-run victory. Earlier in the campaign opener, they successfully navigated a tricky chase against the Netherlands. What makes those performances even more impressive is that this is the first-ever tour of England for a Bangladesh women's side. Far from being overawed by the occasion, they have embraced the challenge. To give themselves the best chance of reaching the semifinals, they will need victories over both India and South Africa. If they can achieve that, they will have to then hope Australia can defeat India. Opening punch - The only Bangladesh half-century of the tournament has come from Juairiya Ferdous, whose positive approach at the top of the order has provided her side with momentum. Alongside her is Dilara Akter, the holder of the record for the fastest fifty by a Bangladesh batter in Women's T20Is. She has endured a couple of quiet outings but remains a player capable of changing the course of a game. Experience and firepower - Captain Nigar Sultana remains the batting mainstay. She led from the front during the tri-series leading into the World Cup and was among the runs again in the win over Pakistan. Shorna Akter will also be a key figure. Her ability to clear the ropes and play the finisher's role with aplomb gives Bangladesh an added dimension in the lower middle order. Bowling blueprint - With her ability to make the new ball talk, Marufa Akter remains one of Bangladesh's most important weapons. Considering how heavily India have relied on their opening pair, early wickets will be crucial in exposing a middle order that has been short on confidence. Bangladesh also possess a spin attack capable of exploiting favourable match-ups. With three right-handers featuring in India's top five, the left-arm spin duo of Nahida Akter and Sanjida Akter Meghla, along with leg-spinner Rabeya Khan, could have a major role to play if Bangladesh are to challenge the might of their Asian rivals. Team form (Last 5 completed T20Is, recent first) - IND - LWWLL | BAN - WLWWW. Conditions in focus - Variations in pace have arguably been the most effective weapons for the bowlers here in Manchester, where the average first-innings score across the three matches played so far stands at 164. Overall, it has been a surface with something in it for everyone, and let's hope it produces an entertaining contest between two sides with plenty at stake.
