Commentary

That's all from this game. But don't go anywhere as the crunch contest between Australia and Afghanistan is about to begin at 1.30 pm IST (8 am GMT). The latest news from the Australian camp is that Aaron Finch has been ruled out and Matthew Wade will be leading the Aussies. You can switch tabs and catch all the updates. Cheers!

Kane Williamson, the skipper of New Zealand, says that it was a really good team performance. Mentions that they knew Ireland are a good start and will come hard at them. He is happy with the way his team performed. Shares that the surface was on the slower side and feels that they batted well in the Powerplay which was the key. Kane is satisfied with the way they executed their plans.

Andy Balbirnie, the captain of Ireland,  says that they got a good start with the bat but failed to capitalize. Mentions that they dropped a few catches but overall, they had a good tournament. States that the trend has been to not go too hard at the start of the Powerplay and they did that part well but failed to carry on. Tells that they are playing better cricket than they were 12 months back and praises Josh Little for showing his class with the ball.

Player of the Match is Kane Williamson for his 35-ball 61. He starts by saying that the batters at the top provided them with a good start and they reached a competitive total. Praises the bowlers, especially the spinners. On his personal form, Kane replies that it's nice to get a bit of momentum and time a few balls. Calls it a team effort but at the same time, he praises Ireland for playing some good cricket.

Stay tuned for the presentation...

Earlier, the star of the first innings was Josh Little who stole the limelight with his hat-trick. His efforts stopped New Zealand from charging towards 200 but in the end, Ireland didn't show enough fight with the bat. Kane Williamson's arrival to form was a big boost for the Kiwis and they did most of the things right in this match.

It was a stiff target for Ireland but the way Paul Stirling and Andy Balbirnie approached, it made things look settled for them. They were cautious in the Powerplay overs and then pressed on the accelerator as soon as Mitchell Santner and Ish Sodhi were brought into the attack. Both the bowlers were put to the sword in their first over but then the pendulum swung. Santner bounced back and so did Sodhi. They combined forces to snap four wickets together and removed the cream of the Irish batting. Lockie Ferguson made sure there was no comeback from the lower-middle order by picking three wickets and altogether New Zealand registered a comfortable win.

An easy win in the end for the Black Caps and they have almost sealed their spot in the semi-finals. Ireland gave them a real scare with their opening stand but once both the openers were dismissed, the Irish team lost the plot. Quite convincing from New Zealand.

Commentary

We are back for the chase! The players are out in the middle. Paul Stirling and Andy Balbirnie are the two openers for Ireland. Trent Boult has been given the new ball and is raring to go. Here we go...

... THE RUN CHASE ...

Right then, New Zealand have the bowling firepower to defend this total but they need to be wary of the threat that Ireland possess with the bat. If the Irish team survives the initial burst with the new ball from the Kiwis, we will be in for a riveting chase. Stay tuned...

The hat-trick hero Josh Little comes up for a quick chat. Says that there was a bit of tail on offer at the backend and he tried to bring the ball into the batters and hoped that they miss it. Admits that they should have bowled fuller earlier when the swing was on offer. Feels that there is no reason why they cannot get the target and cause another upset.

All the talk around Kane Williamson's form and approach in this format was put to bed. He smashed a 35-ball 61 to propel New Zealand in the end overs but his departure forced a mini-collapse. Josh Little claimed a hat-trick, the second of this edition, and his efforts were the prime reason that the Kiwis didn't get the desired finish.

New Zealand looked slightly scratchy at the start but slowly grew into the Powerplay overs, all thanks to Finn Allen's blitz with the bat. Devon Conway was dropped on one by Harry Tector but his innings never got going and he got eventually dismissed after his participation in a slow partnership with Kane Williamson. Glenn Phillips' arrival injected some momentum into New Zealand's innings and although his stay was short, he did the job of setting the tone.

Incredible piece of bowling in the last two overs from Ireland and that stopped New Zealand from touching the 200-run mark. The Irish team will be feeling the momentum behind them after finishing on a hight but they still have a big target in front to overhaul.

OUT! PLUMB IN FRONT! HAT-TRICK FOR LITTLE! Josh Little fires in a good length delivery, on middle, skidding through, Mitchell Santner is very late to put his bat down to play at it and gets rapped around his pads right in front of the stumps. There is a huge appeal for LBW, and up goes the finger. The Irish players are delighted. However, Mitchell Santner takes the review. UltraEdge shows no bat involved and Ball Tracking shows three reds. The hat-trick stands, the second of this edition after Karthik Meiyappan's against Sri Lanka.

Mitchell Santner is ready to face the hat-trick ball.

18.3W

OUT! GIVEN LBW! James Neesham has decided to review the decision. Looks out to the naked eye. Coming to the delivery, it's a bit on the shorter side, around middle and angling in, James Neesham hangs back to heave it over the leg side but it stays low and strikes him on the back leg. The appeal is made and the finger goes up. DRS time! The UltraEdge shows nothing and the Ball Tracking confirms three reds. A golden duck for Neesham and Little is on a hat-trick.

James Neesham arrives with 10 balls remaining in the innings. He has the license to unleash.

18.2W

OUT! TAKEN! Josh Little gets the big wicket of Kane Williamson who was looking dangerous. Little bangs this short and on middle, Kane Williamson goes for the pull shot, but hits it with the top half of his bat and fails to get the required power. As a result, the ball flies in the air and towards deep square leg where Gareth Delany takes a nice catch moving to his right.

Drinks break. New Zealand started slowly but then picked pace in the Powerplay, all thanks to Finn Allen, again. He played some excellent shots to up the run rate but got dismissed in the sixth over. Devon Conway, who was dropped on 1, has found it tough to play his natural free-flowing game so far and currently, he is amidst a slow partnership with Kane Williamson. Ireland will be pleased with their work and would like to keep a strong hand on the scoring rate in the middle overs. Let's see how the next phase unfurls. Fionn Hand to bowl after the break...

We are ready for some action now! The Irish players are taking their respective field positions. Finn Allen and Devon Conway are the two openers for New Zealand. Josh Little to start proceedings with the ball. Let's play...

The umpires and the players have lined up in the middle for the national anthems. It will be New Zealand's national anthem first followed by the national anthem of Ireland.

Kane Williamson, the captain of New Zealand, says that it's a good surface and they will try to assess the conditions in order to get a good score on the board. Tells that they have got their lessons from the last game and have picked out the positives. Mentions that Ireland are a strong side and they want to focus on their plans and execution. Kane informs that New Zealand are also unchanged.

Andy Balbirnie, the Irish captain, says that they want to bowl first as the pitch should play well for 40 overs. Wants his team to give one big push and see where they stand after the match. Informs that they have opted for the same XI.

New Zealand (Unchanged Playing XI) - Finn Allen, Devon Conway (WK), Kane Williamson (C), Glenn Phillips, James Neesham, Daryl Mitchell, Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi, Tim Southee, Lockie Ferguson, Trent Boult.

Ireland (Unchanged Playing XI) - Paul Stirling, Andy Balbirnie (C), Lorcan Tucker (WK), Harry Tector, Curtis Campher, George Dockrell, Gareth Delany, Mark Adair, Fionn Hand, Barry McCarthy, Josh Little.

TOSS - Ireland have won the toss and they have elected to BOWL first.

Pitch report - A fresh pitch is to be used. The square boundaries are on the shorter side. Michael Atherton informs that it's a drop-in pitch, firm, nicely grassed and runs to be had.

Ireland, on the other hand, can be called the giant killer in this World Cup. They took down the Windies in the Group Stages and then got the better of England in the Super 12s. They have a well-rounded team, and they will be looking to cause another upset and spoil the party for the Kiwis. Will they be able to do so? Or will the Black Caps get the victory? We will find out soon. Toss and team news in a bit.

New Zealand have been the top performer in this group except for their defeat against England. They have managed to find different match-winners, and that is why they are in a solid position to get to the next stage. The Kiwis just need to focus on getting a win here, and they will become the first team to qualify for the semi-finals due to their better NRR than all the other teams.

Hello and a warm welcome, folks! It is time for Match 25 in the Super 12 stage of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022, where Ireland will be locking horns against New Zealand. We can expect an exciting clash as the Kiwis eye progression to the next round while the Irish play for their pride.
