...Presentation...

Michael Leask wins the Player of the Match award. He says he just repayed the faith to a lot of people had on them. Adds this one feels special as they lost a couple of wickets and it got tough but his role was to find gaps and hit hard, not to over complicated. Shares he just waited for the bad ball and put some pressure on Namibia.

Namibia bowled well for most parts. They began well with the new ball and got an early breakthrough. The spinners were excellent through the middle. It was the last five where they lost it. They’ll be disappoint with the efforts of the three pacers towards the end. Had they executed their plans better, things could have been different. Earlier, it was the other captain, Merwe Erasmus who scored a fine fifty and took his team over 150 but they way Namibia played, they were looking for 170 and in the end, they dearly were short of runs to defend.

What a chase! The Scottish dug out is absolutely pumped up and why not? What an outstanding win this is! Berrington, their skipper, the mainstay. They were behind for most parts of the chase. They lost Munsey early, Jones and McMullen tried to steady things but just as they got going, Jones fell. McMullen did not last for long too and Cross was also dismissed early. Then came the match-winning stand between Berrington and Leask. The latter played the role of the aggressor and the former played as the perfect foil. They took Scotland to the brink of victory before Leask fell but Berrington stayed till the end and took his side over the line.

18.36

SIX! Finishes it off in style! Take a bow, Richie Berrington. The skipper hits the winning runs. Another strong hit. A slower one on off. He launches it over the long on fence. Scotland win by 5 wickets.

18.21

Fuller and on the leg pole. Greaves swings, it goes off the inner half towards short fine leg for one.

18.12

Misfield and two! Shorter and on middle. This is pulled towards mid-wicket. The fielder fails to stop it. Two taken.

OUT! TAKEN! Leask holes out but he has done his job for his side. What a knock. Brilliant. Came out when his side was in trouble and has probably won them the game. Just the 9 needed. He looks to go for another big one. Fuller and on off. A slower one. He hits it down the ground but it is more off the toe end. David takes it at long on.

17.41

Fuller and on off. This is hit down to long off for one.

17.31

Just the one from it. A slower one around off. Leask looks to sweep but this goes off the inner half on the leg side for one.

SIX! That is massive. That is enormous. My word, what a gem of a knock this is from Leask. On middle. A slower one. He picks it, waits for it and smokes it over the mid-wicket fence for a biggie.

SIX! Bang! Wiese is gutted with himself. Absolutely gutted. Wiese was the man Scotland were relying on but he goes for plenty and probably bowls the over which takes the game away from Namibia. This is a gift. A full toss on the pads. This is slammed over the square leg fence for a biggie.

16.51

Shortish and outside off. He taps it towards cover and gets to the other end.

16.44

FOUR! Two boundaries in the over and this could well be the over which turns the game completely into Scotland's favor. Another slower one on the pads. Richie heaves it. He finds the gap in the mid-wicket region and this goes to the fence.

16.31

A slower one now outside off. This is pushed to cover.

16.26

SIX! That is a welcome biggie. Timely one too. Shorter and on middle. The pull shot comes out and it is nailed over the mid-wicket fence. What a partnership this is. A potential match-winning one.

Commentary

We are back after a short delay! The Scottish opened, George Munsey and Michael Jones make their way out to the middle. Ruben Trumpelmann to begin.

... THE RUN CHASE ...

For Namibia, they started well and ended well as in-between the spinners didn't control the middle phase. Mark Watt in particular who is such a reliable bowler had an off day as he leaked runs. However, Namibia pulled back thanks to Brad Wheal's late flourish with the ball. His three wickets came in handy and at crucial stage. Scotland will feel they are still in the game, they just need one good partnership. Can they build on the momentum? Let's find out.

Zane Green is up for a chat. He’s happy with the score especially after the wickets they lost in the Powerplay. Adds Erasmus played really well. Mentions the wicket is a little two paced.

That is some recovery from Scotland and they'll be happy with the score right now. Namibia though would have loved 10-15 runs more and they had a decent chance when Merwe Erasmus and Zane Green were batting together. The skipper was playing really well and got Scotland to a good position but his wicket started a snall downfall as Zane Green followed him. David Wiese didn't make a big impact too.

Two more to end and Namibia end with 155! On middle. Shortish again. This is pulled towards deep mid-wicket. Two taken. Good last over for Namibia.

19.52

Two! They checked for one-short but it is fine! On middle. This is tucked around the corner on the leg side. Two easy.

19.41W

OUT! RUN OUT! Really not sure where Smit was going there. There was no second. On middle. This is hit down to long on. They take one and Smit turns for the second but realises his partner is not coming. He turns and looks to get back in. The fielder fires it to the bowler who takes the bails off. Smit is short.

19.31

Fuller and on middle. This is hit back towards the bowler. He gets a hand to it and takes the pace off. The ball rolls towards mid off. One taken.

19.21

Shorter and on middle. Smit pulls but to deep square leg. Only one.

19.16

SIX! Bang! That is well over and that is the ideal start to the last over. This is with the wind. Shorter and on middle. It sits up to be hit. This is pulled over the mid-wicket fence. It sails over the fence with the wind.

Just the single! Boundaries have dried up at a time where Namibia would have loved a few. On the pads. This is tucked around the corner for one. Can they get to 150 is the question? 8 runs needed, one over to go.

18.50

Two in a row now! Around off. Smit pushes it but can't get it past cover.

18.40

18.2W

OUT! TAKEN! Three wickets in quick succession and Namibia are losing their way here. Currie has another one. A slower one on the pads. Ruben Trumpelmann looks to go over the leg side but he picks the wrong side. There is a strong wind there and the ball holds up. The fielder at deep square leg takes a good catch.

17.5W

OUT! TAKEN! Another one bites the dust! Scotland have managed to take wickets at the right time so far. Excellent stuff from Wheal. Length and around off. Green looks to go over mid off but does not get the elevation he wanted. Jones takes it. The idea was right but the execution wasn't there. Had he got it over him, it would have been a boundary. Good little innings by Green but his side needed him to be out there for longer.

17.41

Just the one! Singles won't harm Scotland. Shortish and on middle. This is pulled through square leg for one.

17.3W

OUT! TAKEN! That is a massive wicket as this stage of the game. This could make a difference of 15 runs to the final score. Wheal bowls a slower one. It is just outside off. David Wiese looks to go over long on but this goes off the outer half towards point and the fielder Watt takes it. Wheal is pumped and rightly so.

17.21

Slightly shorter, another slower one, this is pushed past cover. Another run taken.

17.11

The keeper fails to collect the ball on the first attempt but does so on the second one and takes the bails off. It is taken upstairs. Replays show that, the ball deflected onto the stumps after it hit the keeper but the bails did not come off. The keeper collected the ball and took the bails off again and the batter was still out.

Stumping appeal. Looks very close.

A huge appeal to start the match, an appeal for LBW but turned down. Very full and on leg, looked very tight as JP Kotze misses his flick. A bit of inswing so Scotland don't think of a review there.

Time for the action to begin! Brad Wheal to begin. JP Kotze and Niko Davin are the openers.

PITCH REPORT - The square boundaries are 58m and 68m while the straight hit is at 73m. There has been a lot of tennis-ball bounce and that has forced the bowlers to go tad fuller. The captain winning the toss could bat first.

Merwe Erasmus says they will bat first. Feels the wicket won’t change a lot as it is a day game. They want to make the best use of the wicket. Adds they’ll need to do well with both bat and ball. Ends by saying the wickets have played well since they’ve arrived here.

Richie Berrington says it is an opportunity to bowl first and put some pressure on Namibia. Adds there were a lot of positive from the last game against England. Tells they have to adapt quickly as the pitch is not a straightforward to play on and have to do well with both bat and ball.

Scotland (Playing XI) - George Munsey, Michael Jones, Brandon McMullen, Richie Berrington (C), Matthew Cross (WK), Michael Leask, Chris Greaves, Mark Watt, Chris Sole, Brad Wheal, Bradley Currie.

Namibia (Playing XI) - Niko Davin, JP Kotze, Jan Frylinck, Merwe Erasmus (C), Malan Kruger, JJ Smit, David Wiese, Zane Green (WK), Ruben Trumpelmann, Bernand Scholtz, Tangeni Lungamene.

TOSS - Namibia win the toss and will BAT first.

Namibia on the other hand, also have a quality players in their ranks. They too will want to prove their mettle but will have to be more clinical as they are up against a better side than Oman. Can they make it two in two?

Scotland’s openers were absolutely brilliant in the last game they played. They were in a strong position and there could have been an upset had rain not intervened. The weather is a lot better and they would be hoping to do well here yet again.

The World Cup is moving along at a rapid pace and we are now into game number 12. It is a clash from group B. Scotland will be taking on Namibia. Both have opened their account in the tournament. Scotland’s first game was a wash out against England and Namibia emerged victorious against Oman in a Super Over. That game is probably the most exciting game so far in the tournament. We can say these two sides are quite even on paper and we can expect another cracking encounter.

...Match Day...

We are not even halfway through the group stages of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, but we've already witnessed some electrifying matches, including a thrilling Super Over. Namibia was at the center of that nail-biting encounter, snatching victory from a precarious position thanks to a clutch all-round performance by David Wiese, both in the match and the Super Over. Namibia's bowling attack was outstanding, skittling their opponents for just 109. Ruben Trumpelmann delivered a dream start, grabbing two wickets with the first two balls of the game and finishing with four. He, along with Wiese, will be crucial to their pace attack. Skipper Gerhard Erasmus can also contribute with his off-breaks to stifle the opposition in the middle overs, supported by Tangeni Lungameni and Bernard Scholtz. However, Namibia's batting lineup needs to step up. The last game should never have gone to a Super Over. The openers must take more responsibility, but the middle order, featuring experienced players like Jan Frylinck, who played a pivotal role in the last match, Erasmus, Wiese, and JJ Smit, offers stability. Namibia has a golden opportunity to secure another win and climb to the top of the table, putting pressure on their rivals. Scotland, on the other hand, will be feeling a mix of frustration and determination. They were in a strong position against England before the game was abandoned, leaving us to wonder if they could have defended their total. Openers George Munsey and Michael Jones looked solid against the English bowlers, while their middle order, with talents like Richie Berrington, Matthew Cross, and Michael Leask, remains untested but formidable. Scotland boasts a versatile all-rounder in Mark Watt, and Chris Greaves can contribute significantly in both departments. Their bowling attack, featuring Brad Wheal, Bradley Currie, and Chris Sole, is solid and ready to take on the field with renewed vigor. Both teams are eager to make their mark. Will Namibia capitalize on their momentum and make it two wins in a row? Or will Scotland channel their frustration into a powerful performance to secure their first victory of the tournament? The stage is set for another thrilling encounter. Let’s find out together!
