New Zealand beat Sri Lanka by 9 wickets

University Oval, Dunedin

Right then. That's it from the coverage of this game. New Zealand have restricted the visitors to take an unassailable lead in this series. That means it is all to play for in the final and the third T20I match. It will be played on 8th April, Saturday. The first ball will be at 6.30 am IST (1 am GMT). You can join us early for the build-up as well. Until then, take care and goodbye.

Adam Milne wins the MAN OF THE MATCH award for his five-wicket haul. He truly deserves it.

Earlier in the innings, Sri Lanka got off to a solid start with the bat, at the end of Powerplay they were 50/2. Later, Kusal Perera and Dhananjaya de Silva stabled the innings with a handy partnership. Although, both slipped out in quick succession. Charith Asalanka got off to a good start but hardly found any support from the other end. It was more of a collapse for the visitors. Adam Milne was the star with the ball for New Zealand with his five-wicket haul, but it wouldn't have been possible without the spinners, who came in and controlled the run flow in the middle over. All the bowlers did their part for New Zealand.

Sri Lanka will be heading back to the drawing board. They have a lot of things to work on when it comes to bowling. They were defending a below-par on this batting paradise of a wicket. To make it worse, the bowlers conceded too many extras in this match. 16, to be precise. Kasun Rajitha was the lone wicket-taker. Although, it is Maheesh Theekshana who stood out with the ball for his economical spell.

Phew! It was rather a one-way traffic at the chase. New Zealand were off to a flying start, thanks to Chad Bowes who was only dealing in boundaies. He set the tone of this innings, all this while, Tim Seifert was happy to play the second-fiddle. Although, once the opening stand was broken, Tim Seifert took the express route himself, and went beserk with the bat. He stomped his authority with his half-century, which eventually turned into a match-winning knock. Tom Latham, the skipper played a solid supporting role from the get go. All in all, it was a covincing chase for the hosts.

New Zealand level the series, that too, with a commanding win over Sri Lanka. Tim Seifert put up a solid batting show on display and has helped his side to get over the line in a match where the series was hanging on the line.

SIX! Tim Seifert finishes things off in style! Dhananjaya de Silva floats this one up, full and on middle, Tim Seifert goes down and uses his muscles to reverse-sweep it over the deep extra cover fence for another biggie. NEW ZEALAND WIN BY 9 WICKETS AND LEVEL THE SERIES!

We are back for the chase! The players are already out in the middle now. Chad Bowes and Tim Seifert are the two openers for New Zealand. Sri Lanka going with spin straightaway as Maheesh Theekshana has the new ball in hand. Here we go..

... THE RUN CHASE ...

Right then, Sri Lanka have posted a well below-par total on the board and will need something special from their bowlers to defend it. New Zealand will be confident of gunning this down and keep their record of being unbeaten in international matches at this ground intact. Let's see how the chase unfolds.

The man of the moment, Adam Milne is up for a quick chat. He says that it is a nice feeling to get a fi-fer. Also it was necessary to come stronger after the Super Over loss. Mentions the spinners did really well to get things under control in the middle over. Informs that he just tried to go full and straight, in the final over. Ends by saying that it is a nice feeling leading the time out of the park, with the ball in hand.

New Zealand showed great fight and determination and Tom Latham used all of his bowling resources really well. There were a few expensive overs here and there, but they were able to pull things back with wickets at regular intervals and did not allow Sri Lanka to get the momentum. Adam Milne was the pick of the bowlers with his five-wicket haul. Benjamin Lister got a couple of wickets while everyone else got one to their name excet for James Neesham.

Sri Lanka will be very disappointed as they know that they could have got a lot more considering the start they got. Even though they lost both openers inside the Powerplay, the scoring rate was good. The partnership between Dhananjaya de Silva and Kusal Perera of 62 runs gave them the platform to go big, but both got dismissed in their thirties and in quick succession which put a brake on their innings. However, Charith Asalanka continued his good form and played a good cameo without much support on the other end. From 82/2 in ten overs to 141 all out, this has been an extraordinary collapse for them and they are staring down the barrel now.

A dominating display from the Kiwis! After the narrow Super-Over defeat in the first T20I, the hosts have comeback really well and restricted the Lankans to just 140 runs thanks to a brilliant five-wicket haul from Adam Milne. They will be the happier side going into the break and it looks like we will be heading for a decider in this series.

The match is set to begin. The New Zealand players make their way out on the field. Followed by Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis. It will be Adam Milne to start with the new ball. Here we go...

Sri Lanka (Playing XI) - Kusal Mendis, Pathum Nissanka, Dhananjaya de Silva, Kusal Perera (WK), Charith Asalanka, Wanindu Hasaranga, Dasun Shanaka (C), Kasun Rajitha (In for Chamika Karunaratne), Maheesh Theekshana, Dilshan Madushanka, Pramod Madushan.

New Zealand (Unchanged playing XI) - Chad Bowes, Tim Seifert, Tom Latham (C/ WK), Daryl Mitchell, Mark Chapman, James Neesham, Rachin Ravindra, Adam Milne, Henry Shipley, Ish Sodhi, Benjamin Lister.

TOSS - New Zealand win the toss and have opted to BOWL first.

Update - After this series gets over, Dasun Shanaka will be heading down to India to play for Gujarat in the Indian T20 League. He has been selected as a replacement of Kane Williamson, who suffered a knee injury during the first match of the season, and was forced to make his way out of the tournament. The ex-Kiwi skipper has come back to New Zealand and would be going through his recovery. Hopefully, we are able to see him back on the field, sooner rather than later.

New Zealand, on the other hand will be disappointed with the loss, but their never say die attitude was on show. Daryl Mitchell was brilliant once again and when all looked lost needing seven of the final delivery, Ish Sodhi smashed a six to tie the game. However, they couldn't turn up in the Super Over falling to a defeat. They have lost quite a few players to the Indian T20 League, but still have managed to put on a decent fight. Their bowling is a bit inexperienced, but this is their chance to show their talent against a strong opposition. Will they fight back and level the series? Or will the Lankans take an unassailable lead? We will find out soon. Toss and team news in a bit.

Sri Lanka put on their best performance in the last game and finally got their first win of this tour. Their batters stepped up big time to put on a good score while the bowling could have been better and they will need to improve that. However, Maheesh Theekshana held his nerve well and bowled a brilliant Super Over, conceding just eight runs which set the platform perfectly for Charith Asalanka to get them over the line after scoring a brilliant fifty in the game. They will want to do more of the same and get another win over the Kiwis.

Hello and welcome to our coverage of the 2nd T20I of this three-match series between New Zealand and Sri Lanka at the University Oval in Dunedin in New Zealand. The first game was a nail-biter as the Lankans edged past the Kiwis in a Super Over and took a 1-0 lead and will look to seal the series in this game only while the hosts will want to get the better of the visitors and take the series to a decider.

... Match Day ...

After clinching a victory in an action-packed thriller that went down to a super over in the first T20I, the visitors Sri Lanka would be looking to seal the series with a victory in the second T20I against the Kiwis. Sri Lanka batted amazingly in the first game and posted 196 on the board. The batters clicked collectively for the first time on this tour and they managed to carve their way towards the first victory of this tour courtesy of a boundary from the bat of Charith Asalanka in the super over. The bowling was decent too in the first T20I. Kusal Mendis is the key for the visitors as he can take the game away from any opponent on his day while the bowling department will be heavily reliant on the broad shoulders of Maheesh Theekshana and Wanindu Hasaranga yet again. New Zealand too had a decent outing and the never give up attitude of the Kiwis was key for them to take the game as deep as they did in the first T20I. The top order failed to give them a good start but Daryl Mitchell cleaned the scrap for them and helped them to a super over which they lost eventually. The hosts would be looking to get level in the series with a victory in the second T20I and a lot would depend on Daryl Mitchell as he holds the key for the Kiwis being their premium 3-D players. Expect a thriller as these two consistently improving sides face each other yet again.
