That is it then from this game. Action in the Super 12 stage of the T20 World Cup continues on Sunday, the 30th of October with three clashes lined up for everyone to enjoy. The first game will be played between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe in Brisbane and that game will begin at 8.30 am IST (5 am GMT). This game will then be followed by a doubleheader in Perth. First, Pakistan will take on the Netherlands at 12.30 pm IST (7 am GMT) and then India will face South Africa at 4.30 pm IST (11 am GMT). You can join us for the early build-up for all three of those games. Cheers!

Kane Williamson, the captain of New Zealand says that it was an interesting game and the wicket was very different from what he expected. Mentions that the ball stopped in the pitch, coming slower onto the bat and it was not easy at the start of the inning. Claims that Sri Lanka were good at the top after which Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips did well to build a partnership. Admits that it was an incredible inning from Glenn Phillips and any hundred is good but see to him work hard and take the team out of trouble was amazing. Adds that the bowlers came out and did well. Ends by saying that they wanted to be aggressive with the ball but they knew if they keep it simple the pitch will do its job.

The Sri Lankan skipper, Dasun Shanaka says that they started really well, especially in the first 10 overs and then goes on to applaud Glenn Phillips for the innings he played. Adds that they didn't bowl well in the second half and gives credit to Tim Southee and Trent Boult for the way they bowled at the start. Mentions that they just lost too many wickets inside the Powerplay and after that, it was always going to be difficult. Ends by saying that they still have a couple of games left and will look to bounce back.

Glenn Phillips (104 off 64 balls) is the Player of the Match. He says that the plan with Daryl Mitchell was simple as they were looking to build a partnership whilst being positive and put up a competitive total. Claims that he is there to try and entertain the crowd as much as possible but says that it was a complete team effort. Says that he felt cramps on the field but it was good to be back in the field for a few overs. Claims that he is happy with his progress and gives credit to the bowlers by saying that they were great. Adds that the way they executed the slower balls was wonderful and the wickets upfront always help. Ends by saying that they bowled well and they caught well and he is happy with the win.

The Presentation ceremony...

Earlier in the game, Kane Williamson won the toss and opted to bat first but New Zealand weren't able to get a fast start. Not only that but they were 15/3 inside the Powerplay before Glenn Phillips and Daryl Mitchell stitched together a wonderful 84-run stand. Mitchell played second fiddle as Phillips kept on peppering the Lankan bowlers with some eye-catching shots. Phillips did go on to make a brilliant century and the Kiwis were able to get beyond the 165-run mark as well. For Sri Lanka, Kasun Rajitha was the standout performer with the ball and their two frontline spinners proved effective as well. In reply, Sri Lanka just couldn't get out of second gear and the Kiwi pacers made sure that they picked up early wickets as well. All in all, it was a dominant display by New Zealand and Sri Lanka never really stood a chance having lost those early wickets.

Sri Lanka have had a long World Cup and have been unfortunate with injuries to a few key players but they will be disappointed with their performance in this game. First, they let go of their advantage when they were bowling and then with a big target to chase down, they lost way too many wickets inside the Powerplay. The top order failed miserably and only Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Dasun Shanaka could get muster-up runs for them in the middle order. With just a couple of games left for Sri Lanka to play in the Super 12 stage, they will hope that the rain stays away and their performance improves as well.

New Zealand had the momentum going into the interval and they made good use of it once the players were back out in the middle. Tim Southee picked up a wicket in the very first over without giving away any runs as well. Trent Boult then sent back a couple of more Lankan batters in the next over which got the game firmly in New Zealand's control. After that, the Kiwis kept on attacking and picked up wickets at regular intervals. Every bowler used picked up a wicket with Boult standing out with a four-fer as both spinners ended up with a couple of wickets each. The Kiwis are looking like the team to beat in this group for sure.

A clinical display with the ball and in the field from New Zealand and with this win, they remain unbeaten and build a lead at the top of the Group 1 points table. Sri Lanka's inconsistent showing continues and they will have to win both their remaining games in order to have a good chance of making the playoffs.

Commentary

We are all set for the run chase as the umpires make their way out to the middle. The New Zealand players are taking their positions in the field as Kusal Mendis and Pathum Nissanka stride out towards the pitch. They will open the innings for Sri Lanka and will be looking to negotiate the new ball thereby getting their team off to a good start. Tim Southee has been handed the ball and will begin proceedings. Let's go...

... THE RUN CHASE ...

Right then, this game could go either way as the Sri Lankan batters have shown that they have ample ability to complete this run chase but they also have the tendency to collapse under pressure. They will be up against one of the most dangerous fast-bowling attacks and will be hoping to play out the new ball and build their inning. The momentum is with New Zealand though and they will come out with fire looking to take early wickets and defend the target comfortably. Do join us shortly for an exciting run chase.

Daryl Mitchell is up for a chat and he says that he is happy with the total and applauds the efforts of Glenn Phillips. Adds that it was a challenging start for them and the key was to build a partnership and overall the surface is a bit difficult. Mentions that there is some variable bounce on offer and will now look to defend this total.

New Zealand found themselves in an uncommon situation where both their openers failed with the bat as they found their stumps shattered by the Sri Lankan spinners. Kane Williamson could not steady the ship as he fell soon after and New Zealand put up their second-worst performance in a Powerplay in a T20 World Cup. Glenn Phillips got a life as he was dropped in the deep early in his innings and along with Daryl Mitchell began rebuilding the inning. They put on a partnership of 84 runs in just 64 deliveries with Glenn Phillips being the major contributor as he notched up his century and played an outstanding inning. New Zealand will be silently confident of defending this total with the bowling attack they have.

Sri Lanka got off to a dream start with Dasun Shanaka shuffling his bowlers well at the start of the inning. Maheesh Theekshana struck in the first over of the game and Dhananjaya de Silva followed suit with a dismissal in his first over as well. Kasun Rajitha had an extended spell and dismissed the New Zealand skipper to restrict the opponents to 25 runs in the Powerplay having claimed three wickets. Pathum Nissanka spilled an easy chance to dismiss Glen Phillips which proved to be the turning point as he went on to be the difference for New Zealand. Wanindu Hasaranga broke the fourth wicket partnership but by then the platform had been set and their death bowlers faced the brunt of the onslaught towards the end. Kasun Rajitha was the pick of the bowlers taking 2 wickets for 23 runs in his four overs with the three spinners taking one wicket each.

What an outstanding effort this has been from Glenn Phillips as he has scored 104 out of the total of 167 runs that are on the board! The Kiwis have managed to put up a decent score and Sri Lanka will be absolutely disappointed with their effort after the start they had. The momentum is definitely with New Zealand and they have a wonderful opportunity to notch up their second win of the tournament. Sri Lanka have their work cut out and will have to pick themselves up if they are to put up a fight and try and reach the target.

FOUR! Tim Southee walks in and applies the finishing touch to end the innings on a high. This is a low full toss outside off, Southee reaches out and clubs it towards the vacant wide long on fence for a boundary. 13 runs come off the final over and New Zealand finish with 167/7 on the board.

Tim Southee will face the last ball of the inning.

19.51W

OUT! RUN OUT! Comfortably short in the end. Lahiru Kumara gets bowling the off-paced deliveries, this time it is on a length and around off. Ish Sodhi drags the shot towards deep mid-wicket and there's a slight fumble in the deep as well. The batters try to come back for the second but the substitute fielder over there Ashen Bandara fires in a good throw towards the keeper. Kusal Mendis whips off the bails and the replays show that Ish Sodhi is short of his ground.

Ish Sodhi is out in the middle for the last two balls.

19.4W

OUT! TAKEN! Glenn Phillips finally mistimes one and departs after a fine, fine knock. Another slower one from Lahiru Kumara, bowled into the pitch and outside off. Phillips just loses his shape a bit as he looks to go over the long off fence. The ball goes off the top edge and just over mid off. Dasun Shanaka runs backward and takes a good catch. Kumara gets the wicket but Phillips has done the damage.

19.31

Slower one, on a good length and over the stumps. Mitchell Santner gets an inside edge towards the off side as he looks to pull and the batters scamper through for a run.

19.26

SIX! Up and over! A short ball over the off stump, Mitchell Santner gives himself a bit of room and just lifts it all the way over the point fence for a maximum.

19.11

Another attempted wide yorker, slower this time and ends up being a low full toss. Glenn Phillips looks to swing across the line but gets an inside edge back onto the pads. The ball rolls on the off side and they get a single.

19.11wd

WIDE! Attempted wide yorker, this is pushed beyond the tramline outside off and a wide is called.

FOUR! A huge roar from Glenn Phillips as he finds the fence and brings up a sensational ton. This is dragged down on the pads, Phillips rocks back and pulls it hard into the mid-wicket fence. Phillips gets a standing ovation from the crowd and rightly so, this has been a knock of high calliber.

18.41

A full toss on the pads, Mitchell Santner sweeps it towards deep square leg for just a single.

18.32

Excellent running! Tossed up outside off, Mitchell Santner drives it firmly in front of covers and the batters race back for the second.

18.21

Quicker and shorter over the stumps, Glenn Phillips backs away and lofts it towards wide long off for a single.

18.14

All in readiness for the start of play now as the umpires take their place out in the middle. The players of Sri Lanka also spread out on the field. Devon Conway and Finn Allen are all-set to open the innings for New Zealand. It will be spin to get the game underway as Maheesh Theekshana has been tossed the new ball. Let's play...

We are just a few minutes away from the start now. But first, the players from both sides will line up for their respective national anthems. It will be the national anthem of Sri Lanka first followed by New Zealand's national anthem.

Finn Allen is down for a quick chat. He says it feels pretty good to bat well against a quality pace attack like Australia. Mentions that they are fortunate to have a couple of quality spinners on their side and the key is to look to play straight down the ground. Adds that he and Devon Conway have been batting together for a couple of years now and it feels good to bat alongside him.

PITCH REPORT - Mel Jones was pitchside earlier and she says it's 84m dead straight. Adds that the pitch looks like a belter. Dale Steyn joins her and says that it is similar to the previous two wickets on this ground.

Dasun Shanaka the captain of Sri Lanka says they would have batted first too but they are comfortable while chasing and they have no problem doing so. When asked about the loss against Australia he explains that it is just one game as spinners hold the key for them but they had a bad game. Claims that the hope to regroup and do well in this game. Informs there is just one change for them.

Kane Williamson the skipper of New Zealand says that they will have a bat first and says that the surface looks good. Adds that they have traveled quite a fair bit and it is good to be back out in the middle. Mentions that the conditions are different at different grounds and they look to make the adjustments. Informs that they have one change in the side as Daryl Mitchell comes back in for Mark Chapman.

Sri Lanka (Playing XI) - Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis (WK), Dhananjaya de Silva, Charith Asalanka, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Dasun Shanaka (C), Wanindu Hasaranga, Chamika Karunaratne, Maheesh Theekshana, Lahiru Kumara, Kasun Rajitha (In place of Binura Fernando).

New Zealand (Playing XI) - Finn Allen, Devon Conway (WK), Kane Williamson (C), Glenn Phillips, Daryl Mitchell (In place of Mark Chapman), James Neesham, Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi, Tim Southee, Lockie Ferguson, Trent Boult.

TOSS - The captains are out in the middle. The coin is flipped into the air and lands in favor of New Zealand. They have elected to BAT first.

Sri Lanka saw their three-game winning streak broken by Australia and will be eager to get back to winnings ways as a victory would take them to the top of the table. They looked tired in their last game and the tournament has been considerably longer for them having played three extra games in the Group Stage. They possess the ability to beat any team in the world if it is their day but they will have to look for consistency if they are to make a title run. They have a strong batting order and though the top order has been scoring runs heavily, they need their power hitters to join the party and provide them with the impetus at the backend of an inning. They missed the contributions of their spinners in the previous match and will be hoping they get their mojo back in this game. Will they be able to overcome their loss? Or will New Zealand prove to be too strong for them? We will find out soon. Stay tuned for the toss and team updates.
