New Zealand beat Pakistan by 4 runs

Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore

Right then. That's it from the coverage of this game. We meet again on 20th April for the fourth T20I between the two sides. The first ball will be at 9.30 pm IST (4 pm GMT), but you can join us early for the build-up. Until then, take care and goodbye.

Tom Latham, the skipper of New Zealand wins the MAN OF THE MATCH award, for an outstanding effort with the blade. He starts by saying it is nice to get a win on the board. Mentions it was a great game of cricket and this match will only give confidence to the boys. Adds that the way they bowled in the Powerplay was outstanding. Informs that a T20I game is never over till the very end. States that the bowling group was fantastic. Praises Ish Sodhi and Rachin Ravindra who picked valuable wickets in the middle overs. Mentions that it is nice to contribute for the team, informs the wicket was a bit slow at the start. Mentions that he is really lucky to have some fantastic fielders in the side.

Babar Azam, the captian of Pakistan says that the total that we restricted them was decent but we couldn't capitalize on the Powerplay and that's what has cost the team. On Iftikhar coming down at 8 he says that the batting order is flexible and the way he batted so low in the order and almost brought the game home is a big positive for us. He also adds that the bowling has been brilliant for us and restricting them to 160 was a perfect execution of plan by both the senior pros and the youngsters as well.

Stay tuned for the presentation...

Earlier in the innings, Tom Latham put his hand up just when his side needed it the most. His half-century proved to be valuable as it allowed the middle-order to flex their muscles later on. The Kiwis got over the 160-run mark and that's what their skipper expected pre-game. Pakistan showed excellent unity with the ball but could not show the same unity with the bat. Iftikhar Ahmed was left with a bit too much in the end, but he still managed to give it a go.

Defending 163 was never going to be easy, but the New Zealand bowlers made sure to get off to a solid start by picking early wickets. They had Pakistan in all sorts of trouble from the get go. The bowlers never allowed them to build solid stand, until the very end, the one between Faheem Ashraf and Iftikhar Ahmed. Also, the injury to Benjamin Lister forced Tom Latham to gamble bowlers for the two overs which Lister could not bowl, as he left the field early in pain. Eventually, New Zealand fought till the very end and managed to keep the series alive.

It looked like Pakistan were done and dusted, although Iftikhar Ahmed had some other plans. It was a horror start for the hosts with the blade as their opening pair was taken out cheaply. Fakhar Zaman, Saim Ayub and Shadab Khan got into double digits but could not hurt the opposition at all. But then, a miraculous knock from Iftikhar Ahmed got some hope back in the crowd as well as the dugout. If not for his 24-ball 60, this match would've never come down to the wire.

Game of nerves, this one! What a thrilling contest. The pendulum swung in favour of both the teams till the very end but it is James Neesham who proved that he has ice in his veins. Even after taking some hard-hitting, he managed to defend 15 runs in the final over to keep the series alive for the Kiwis.

... The Run Chase ...

Pakistan were incredible with the ball! It was a complete team performance. Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf started well with the new ball. Then the spinners came into the attack and removed all the sting from the New Zealand batters, which left the opposition teetering at 64/2 at the halfway mark. Even the death bowling was pretty impressive, as the bowlers were able to take wickets at regular intervals. Now the onus in on their batters, to chase down the target of 164 runs. Pakistan would certainly think they can get over the line here and seal the series. Do join us for the second essay shortly.

New Zealand were off to a promising start, but once Chad Bowes departed, the run flow took a major blow as well. Will Young took his time to settle-in but departed after playing a few good-looking shots. It was then a stand between Tom Latham and Daryl Mitchell that helped the Kiwis to get their inning back on track. Latham recorded his half-century and the two stitched a stand of 65 runs. The highest of this inning for the visitors. Although, the two lost their wicket in quick succession just when they started to take on the bowlers. Later James Neesham, Mark Chapman and Rachin Ravindra hit a few lusty-blows to add some impetus to the scoreboard.

Phew! What an entertaining contest between bat and ball this first inning was filled with! Tom Latham said at the start that they would love to get near the 160-run mark and the batters have managed to do exactly that. Although, New Zealand would feel they are 15-20 runs short, looking at the way they batted. Yet another solid day at the office for the Pakistan bowlers.

The match is set to begin. It is a pleasant night in Lahore, but not so pleasant for the visitors. New Zealand need a win here and their batters would be coming out all guns blazing. Here comes their opening pair of Tom Latham and Chad Bowes. Although, the crowd shows much more love with a loud cheer as the Pakistan players make their way out on the field. It is going to be Shaheen Afridi to start with the new ball. Here we go...

Pakistan (Playing XI) - Mohammad Rizwan (WK), Babar Azam (C), Fakhar Zaman, Saim Ayub, Shadab Khan, Iftikhar Ahmed, Imad Wasim, Faheem Ashraf, Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah (In for Zaman Khan).

New Zealand (Playing XI) - Tom Latham (C/ WK), Chad Bowes, Will Young, Daryl Mitchell, Mark Chapman, James Neesham, Rachin Ravindra, Adam Milne (In for Cole McConchie), Ish Sodhi (In for Henry Shipley), Matt Henry, Benjamin Lister.

TOSS - New Zealand win the toss and they will BAT first.

Kiwis on the other hand will be looking to get off the mark in this series and stay in the hunt to clinch the silverware. The Kiwis have been good but they have lost the key battles resulting them being in the position that they are at this point in the series. The batters have struggled a lot but Mark Chapman has looked comfortable against the lethal bowling of the hosts. For the visitors, this match is a do-or-die sitution, if they lose their hopes of lifting the trophy could well be chalked off. Stay tuned for toss and team updates.

The hosts have been ruthless in the two games played and have dominated the visitors attaining a 2-0 lead in the series so far. The batting unit has been firing so far and the bowlers have backed it up tremendously. The hosts would be confident to win the third T20I and seal the series. Babar Azam would be required with the bat yet again while the bowling will once again be relying on the broad shoulders of Haris Rauf.

Hello and welcome to the coverage of the third T20I between Pakistan and New Zealand in this 5-match T20I series. Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore will be hosting this game. The hosts are coming into this game with an intention to take an unassailable lead in this series.

... MATCH DAY ...

After taking a 2-0 lead in the 5-match T20I series, Pakistan will go head-to-head with New Zealand in the third T20I at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. Pakistan has been dominating in the series so far and has not given the visitors even the slimmest chance of getting anywhere near a victory in the two games played so far. Babar Azam was outstanding in the last game scoring a century. The cameo of Iftikhar Ahmed was a massive boost for the side as he plays a crucial role for them. Haris Rauf has been brilliant scalping 8 wickets in the two games played and has led the bowling unit with conviction. Pakistan would be hoping to inflict yet another defeat on the Kiwis and seal the series. New Zealand would be hoping to win this and stay alive in the series. They have played well but have lost key moments that have led to their demise in the series so far. Mark Chapman has been the bright light for the Kiwis as he has batted superbly so far. If the Kiwis are to win the third T20I then the bowlers will have to bowl well at depth. The form of Daryl Mitchell has been a massive concern for them as the team relies heavily on his all-round performance. Expect a thriller between these two cricketing giants.
