Commentary
We are back for the second chapter to unfold! The umpires are on their way to take their respective positions, followed by the players of Pakistan. Quinton de Kock will be opening with Lhuan-dre Pretorius for the Proteas. Shaheen Afridi will start with the new ball. Away we go...
... THE RUN CHASE ...
The stage is now set for the second half of the match. With 269 runs on the board, Pakistan have a challenging total to defend, and the focus now shifts to their bowling attack. South Africa's batters will look to build on the momentum created by their bowlers and successfully chase the target. The match hangs in the balance so far. Will the Proteas' batting unit overcome the total, or will Pakistan's bowlers rise to the occasion and secure a victory? We shall find out soon. Chase is coming up shortly...
A late, aggressive assault by Mohammad Nawaz and Faheem Ashraf provided the much-needed impetus in the death overs, allowing Pakistan to reach a par total of 269 runs. Nawaz scored 59 runs, and Wasim helped the team with a couple of boundaries in the death overs. South Africa's bowlers executed their plan well, maintaining tight control throughout the innings. The standout performer was pacer Nandre Burger, who tore through the lineup to finish with an excellent four-wicket haul. Corbin Bosch and Nqabayomzi Peter also contributed effectively, chipping in with important wickets.
Pakistan ended up with 269 on the board! Their batting lineup struggled early on, losing key wickets quickly. However, Saim Ayub showed great composure and, along with Salman Agha, built a crucial 92-run partnership for the fourth wicket, stabilizing the innings. Ayub anchored the middle overs, reaching a well-made half-century before falling for 53 in the 25th over. Agha then carried on, playing a slower, yet important, knock of 69 runs before his departure in the 41st over, which set the stage for the final push.

SIX! A biggie to end the inning! Tossed up, outside off. Naseem Shah puts on his dancing shoes and charges down the track to loft it over the wide long off fence for six more runs. Pakistan finish with 269 on the board!
OUT! CAUGHT AND BOWLED! Nqabayomzi Peter gets his third wicket! He bowls it fuller, around off. Mohammad Nawaz takes a step across the stump to swat it across the line, but fails to get an ideal connection. The ball hits the upper half of the willow and loops toward the vacant mid-wicket region. Peter sprints to get under the skier and reverse scoop it around his chest.
SIX! This is outstanding from Mohammad Nawaz! Nqabayomzi Peter bowls fuller, on middle. Mohammad Nawaz goes deep into the crease and heaves it over the deep mid-wicket fence for six more runs.
Pitches it up, just outside off. Mohammad Nawaz goes for a slog but gets beaten on the outer edge.

Appeal goes round, but the umpire is unmoved! Pitches it up, much fuller, on leg and shapes it in. Mohammad Wasim clears his front foot to go for a wild swing but misses and hits the lower pad. After taking the review, the UltraEdge shows no bat involvement and the Ball Tracking shows that the ball is missing down the leg stump.
FOUR! Easy pickings for Wasim! Good-length delivery, around the hips of the batter. Mohammad Wasim camps back and tickles it from the inner part of his blade to beat the short fine leg fielder for a boundary.
Slower short delivery, outside off. Mohammad Wasim pulls it across, but gets beaten.
FOUR! SHOT! Pitches it up, just outside off. Mohammad Wasim drills it low and straight to the sticks at the non-striker's end. The ball deflects and bounces wide of the mid off fielder for a boundary.
Short, outside off. Mohammad Wasim slaps it to sweeper cover for a brace.
What just happened there? Corbin Bosch steams from over the wicket and bowls much fuller, just behind the yorker length, on middle. Mohammad Wasim looks to flick it, but gets the inner edge and hits his own pad. The ball rolls toward the left of the bowler. Bosch appeals and at the same time charges the rolling ball. Wasim is lost there as he doesn't know where the ball is, and he sets off for a single without communicating. Bosch picks the ball and all he has to do is a direct hit, but misses the stump. That was surely a gonner if it would have hit the stumps.

OUT! TAKEN! Nandre Burger gets a much-needed breakthrough for South Africa. He bangs in a bouncer, slower again and on middle. Faheem Ashraf tries to take it on and goes for the pull. However, he has to generate all the power by himself, which he does, but unfortunately, hits it straight towards deep backward square leg. Commentary
That's a wrap on this contest! The series decider arrives on 8th November 2025, 10 am GMT. Tune in an hour early for the pre-match buildup. Cheers!
Matthew Breetzke, South Africa's captain, applauded the team's clinical all-round show, crediting Nandre Burger for leading the charge with the ball and Quinton de Kock, Lhuan-dre Pretorius, and Tony de Zorzi for their batting exploits. He noted that the Proteas set high standards for themselves, emphasizing their sharp fielding efforts, including a fabulous catch by Donovan Ferreira. Breetzke praised Nandre as a top-class bowler, lethal with the new ball when he gains momentum, and expressed happiness at his early breakthroughs. With the series level, he expressed optimism about the decider, saying the team was now focused on coming out on top.
Shaheen Afridi, Pakistan's captain, lauded Saim Ayub and Salman Agha for playing crucial roles, their partnership helping to steady the ship after three early wickets. He acknowledged that while 270 seemed a defendable target, dropped catches proved costly. Afridi expressed determination, stating that the team would regroup, come back stronger, and be more resilient in the next game.
Quinton de Kock, the Player of the Match, credited the team's solid performance, noting that Nandre Burger and Corbin Bosch had set the tone early with a disciplined bowling effort. Pakistan had posted a decent total, but the Proteas simply batted exceptionally well to chase it down with ease. De Kock spoke of his personal drive, setting high standards and constantly aiming for new goals. He praised the team's fresh energy, particularly the youngsters, and singled out Tony de Zorzi for a clinical, composed innings, taking the majority of the strike and looking sharp in the middle.
Presentation ...
Earlier in the game, a sensational final over capped a resilient innings for Pakistan, who set South Africa a target of 270 after finishing on 269/9. After opting to bat, Pakistan stumbled early, reduced to 22/3 by Nandre Burger. Crucial partnerships from Saim Ayub and Salman Ali Agha rescued the innings. They added 92 for the 4th wicket, followed by a 59-run stand between Agha and Mohammad Nawaz for the 6th wicket. Despite Nqabayomzi Peter's three wickets and a brace for Corbin Bosch, Nawaz anchored the late innings, which exploded in the final over with 22 runs.
Pakistan's bowling was totally outgunned by the Proteas' batting fireworks! Mohammad Wasim and Faheem Ashraf picked up one wicket each and that's pretty much the only highlights for the bowlers. The South African batters, led by QDK's unbeaten 123 and Tony de Zorzi's solid 76, just smashed their way past 270. No real contest, really.
The real game-changer was the marathon stand of 153 between QDK and Tony de Zorzi after Lhuan’s departure. Tony played a fiery 76, while QDK was sensational with an unbeaten 123, steering South Africa to a comfortable victory. Lhuan’s brisk 46 set the tone early on. The partnership between Quinton de Kock and Tony de Zorzi was a sheer delight for fans as it was a spectacle of punishing cricket. Neither spared the bowlers, dispatching loose deliveries to all corners of the park, leaving Pakistan struggling to contain the flow.
South Africa have squared the series with a dominant 8-wicket win in the 2nd ODI, effortlessly chasing down 270 with nearly 10 overs to spare. Chasing a modest target, the Proteas were never troubled, thanks to a sizzling start by the openers. Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Quinton de Kock batted with intent, brushing aside pressure and laying the foundation.
Saim Ayub delivers it fuller, pitching it on middle and turns it away. Matthew Breetzke lunges to block it to his front but gets nicked on the outside edge as the ball turns. It rolls away toward deep third and the batter gets the single to get the win. South Africa wins the encounter by 8 wickets and have leveled the three-match ODI series!
POWERPLAY 3! The fielding side will now be allowed 5 fielders outside the 30-yard circle till the end of the innings.

PITCH REPORT - Rameez Raja is pitchside with his insights. He says that the track seems to be better than the last game, with a nice covering of grass, which will certainly offer some good bounce to the pacers. Although it's still abrasive and has a few cracks, the conditions do appear to favor batting, so he reckons that Pakistan's decision to bat first is the right call.
Matthew Breetzke, skipper of South Africa, says that they would have batted first, judging the pitch, the ball will come nicely to the willow, but now they will have to shift their plan to restrict them to a decent total and then chase it down. Continues that the crowd is electrifying like their previous game. Ends up saying that they have two changes in the team as Nqabayomzi Peter and Nandre Burger come in for Lungi Ngidi and Lizaad Williams.
Skipper of Pakistan, Shaheen Afridi, says that they will be batting first as the pitch looks quite similar to the previous one. Continues that there's slightly more grass, which they reckon will help the ball come onto the bat nicely. Adds that they have made two changes, with Abrar Ahmed and Hasan Nawaz giving way to Faheem Ashraf and Mohammad Wasim. Ends up saying that they have identified areas for improvement, but the boys played well in the last game, which ultimately led to the victory.
South Africa (Playing XI) - Quinton de Kock (WK), Lhuan-dre Pretorius, Tony de Zorzi, Matthew Breetzke (C), Sinethemba Qeshile, Donovan Ferreira, George Linde, Corbin Bosch, Bjorn Fortuin, Nandre Burger (In place of Lungi Ngidi), Nqabayomzi Peter (In place of Lizaad Williams).
Pakistan (Playing XI) - Fakhar Zaman, Saim Ayub, Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan (WK), Salman Agha, Hussain Talat, Mohammad Nawaz, Faheem Ashraf (In place of Hasan Nawaz), Shaheen Afridi (C), Mohammad Wasim (In place of Abrar Ahmed), Naseem Shah.
TOSS - Pakistan wins the toss and have elected to BAT first.
South Africa, despite the loss, showed glimpses of strong intent but couldn’t close out the chase. Matthew Breetzke looked lively at the upper middle order, and the bowling attack had moments of sting, but they lacked that last push in the second inning. Today, they’ll look forward to build partnerships early with their openers, Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Quinton de Kock. Both batters provided hefty knocks and would like to replicate in this match as well. Their bowling order unit did a decent job as well, but skipper, Matthew Breetzke and company will need to have a plan to deal with the middle order of their opposition. Will Pakistan bag another win to seize the glory? Or will the Proteas make a comeback? Let's find out together. Stay tuned for toss and team updates.
Pakistan carried momentum into this series after a hard-earned win in the opener, chasing down 264 with eight wickets down in 49.4 overs. Salman Agha played a key knock of 62 and Mohammad Rizwan chipped in with 55 as their batting found form under pressure. Their bowling held firm in the first inning. Pakistan will aim to maintain that composure and consolidate early to put South Africa on the back foot.
Welcome to a pivotal moment in the three-match ODI series as South Africa square off against Pakistan for the second ODI at Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad. With Pakistan already grabbing the first game, South Africa will be out to level the series, and Pakistan will look to extend their advantage on home soil.
... MATCHDAY ...
International cricket returned to Faisalabad after 17 long years, and Pakistan marked the occasion with a win to go 1-0 up in the three-game series. It was also Shaheen Afridi’s first game as the full-time ODI captain. Pakistan will look to seal the series with another win in the 2nd ODI at the Iqbal Stadium. South Africa had their moments but were edged out by the hosts and will now aim to take the series to a decider. The Proteas began well with the bat before losing momentum in the middle overs, leaving a few runs out there. That proved costly as Pakistan, though it got a bit too close for comfort, managed the highest successful run chase in ODIs in Faisalabad. Despite the defeat, there were positives for the second-string Proteas side. None bigger than Quinton de Kock’s 63, his first notable score since returning to international cricket. Lhuan-dre Pretorius impressed with a fifty on his ODI debut. With Dewald Brevis sidelined by a shoulder muscle strain, the visitors will depend on Tony de Zorzi, Donovan Ferreira and captain Matthew Breetzke to step up. As he has done throughout the tour, Corbin Bosch made an impact with both bat and ball in the first game. The Proteas will rely on Lungi Ngidi and Lizaad Williams with the new ball, but with conditions expected to assist spinners, George Linde and Bjorn Fortuin will have to carry much of the load. From Pakistan’s perspective, they too, like South Africa, had a wobble after a promising start, but Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Agha held firm to take the chase forward. However, neither could take the side past the finish line, and if they find themselves in a similar position in the second ODI, they will want to see it through this time. The same applies to Fakhar Zaman and Saim Ayub, who got starts but failed to convert. It has been a tale of inconsistency for Babar Azam across formats, and that one big score is still missing. As one of Pakistan’s better players of spin, he will have an important role to play if conditions are dry and assist the spinners. Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah could not make early inroads with the new ball in the series opener, something they will want to correct. Abrar Ahmed made good use of favourable conditions, while Ayub continues to make an impact with the ball, even if he has not had much success with the bat lately. Despite missing several key players, the Proteas demonstrated that they are capable of challenging this strong Pakistan side in their den. Can Pakistan close out the series, or will South Africa bounce back to take it to a decider? We shall find out.
