PITCH REPORT - Rameez Raja is pitchside with his insights. He says that the track seems to be better than the last game, with a nice covering of grass, which will certainly offer some good bounce to the pacers. Although it's still abrasive and has a few cracks, the conditions do appear to favor batting, so he reckons that Pakistan's decision to bat first is the right call.

Matthew Breetzke, skipper of South Africa, says that they would have batted first, judging the pitch, the ball will come nicely to the willow, but now they will have to shift their plan to restrict them to a decent total and then chase it down. Continues that the crowd is electrifying like their previous game. Ends up saying that they have two changes in the team as Nqabayomzi Peter and Nandre Burger come in for Lungi Ngidi and Lizaad Williams.

Skipper of Pakistan, Shaheen Afridi, says that they will be batting first as the pitch looks quite similar to the previous one. Continues that there's slightly more grass, which they reckon will help the ball come onto the bat nicely. Adds that they have made two changes, with Abrar Ahmed and Hasan Nawaz giving way to Faheem Ashraf and Mohammad Wasim. Ends up saying that they have identified areas for improvement, but the boys played well in the last game, which ultimately led to the victory.

South Africa, despite the loss, showed glimpses of strong intent but couldn’t close out the chase. Matthew Breetzke looked lively at the upper middle order, and the bowling attack had moments of sting, but they lacked that last push in the second inning. Today, they’ll look forward to build partnerships early with their openers, Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Quinton de Kock. Both batters provided hefty knocks and would like to replicate in this match as well. Pakistan carried momentum into this series after a hard-earned win in the opener, chasing down 264 with eight wickets down in 49.4 overs. Salman Agha played a key knock of 62 and Mohammad Rizwan chipped in with 55 as their batting found form under pressure. Their bowling held firm in the first inning. Pakistan will aim to maintain that composure and consolidate early to put South Africa on the back foot.

Welcome to a pivotal moment in the three-match ODI series as South Africa square off against Pakistan for the second ODI at Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad. With Pakistan already grabbing the first game, South Africa will be out to level the series, and Pakistan will look to extend their advantage on home soil.

International cricket returned to Faisalabad after 17 long years, and Pakistan marked the occasion with a win to go 1-0 up in the three-game series. It was also Shaheen Afridi’s first game as the full-time ODI captain. Pakistan will look to seal the series with another win in the 2nd ODI at the Iqbal Stadium. South Africa had their moments but were edged out by the hosts and will now aim to take the series to a decider. The Proteas began well with the bat before losing momentum in the middle overs, leaving a few runs out there. That proved costly as Pakistan, though it got a bit too close for comfort, managed the highest successful run chase in ODIs in Faisalabad. Despite the defeat, there were positives for the second-string Proteas side. None bigger than Quinton de Kock’s 63, his first notable score since returning to international cricket. Lhuan-dre Pretorius impressed with a fifty on his ODI debut. With Dewald Brevis sidelined by a shoulder muscle strain, the visitors will depend on Tony de Zorzi, Donovan Ferreira and captain Matthew Breetzke to step up. As he has done throughout the tour, Corbin Bosch made an impact with both bat and ball in the first game. The Proteas will rely on Lungi Ngidi and Lizaad Williams with the new ball, but with conditions expected to assist spinners, George Linde and Bjorn Fortuin will have to carry much of the load. From Pakistan’s perspective, they too, like South Africa, had a wobble after a promising start, but Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Agha held firm to take the chase forward. However, neither could take the side past the finish line, and if they find themselves in a similar position in the second ODI, they will want to see it through this time. The same applies to Fakhar Zaman and Saim Ayub, who got starts but failed to convert. It has been a tale of inconsistency for Babar Azam across formats, and that one big score is still missing. As one of Pakistan’s better players of spin, he will have an important role to play if conditions are dry and assist the spinners. Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah could not make early inroads with the new ball in the series opener, something they will want to correct. Abrar Ahmed made good use of favourable conditions, while Ayub continues to make an impact with the ball, even if he has not had much success with the bat lately. Despite missing several key players, the Proteas demonstrated that they are capable of challenging this strong Pakistan side in their den.
