Charith Asalanka darts in a fuller-length delivery, and flattens the trajectory. The ball considerably stays low and turns back sharply into the batter from outside off. Mohammed Siraj expecting the ball to bounce goes on the back foot to punch it to the leg side but gets deceived by the lack of bounce and plays it all over the line of the ball, and wears it low on his front pad. OUT! LBW! Not sure what the initial appeal from the Lankans was for but Washington Sundar is out LBW and Sri Lanka rejoice. Charith Asalanka angles the ball in on a slightly fuller length and drops it on off stump, Sundar looks to push it off the front foot but is beaten past the inside edge and the ball just flicks the back leg before going into the mitts of the keeper. There is an appeal and eventually, the finger does go up. Sundar refers it and there's no spike on UltraEdge but Ball Tracking comes up with three reds. The Lankan skipper is at it again!

Has he nicked it? Another appeal for LBW and the decision is sent upstairs by Washington Sundar as the umpire raises his finger. Looks pretty straight. Flat line on UltraEdge. OUT! CAUGHT AND BOWLED! Another excellent catch from the Lankans and the skipper has picked up a huge wicket here. Charith Asalanka keeps coming from around the stumps and angles it in on a length and into middle and leg. Axar Patel goes onto the back foot to flick but the ball holds in the wicket and Axar ends up chipping it back towards the non-striker. Washington Sundar tries to get out of the way and just like that Asalanka is diving across low to his left and manages to take it with both hands. Axar departs after a fine knock.

Drinks! Time for another hydration break. This has been a brave fightback from the last recognized batting pair of India. With Axar Patel taking on the role of punishing the poor deliveries, Washington Sundar has played a perfect second fiddle here. These two have gathered 33 runs together and have prevented any further collapse. Jeffrey Vandersay has been the lone successful bowler for Sri Lanka taking all 6 wickets to his name. With 61 needed off the last 19 overs, Sri Lanka have well and truly put on a strong fight but they are indeed in a desperate search for breakthroughs. Drinks! Well, India has looked well and truly in command here so far. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, both have provided a strong foundation into the chase. Rohit scored a fantastic quickfire 62 before perishing. Also, with dew settling in now, the tweakers are finding it a bit tricky to grip the ball. However, Jeffrey Vandersay in particular, has looked impressive as he is filling up the big shoes of Hasaranga. Sri Lanka need wickets in quick succession to break the momentum. Whereas, India will aim to compound on the start they have got with Kohli and Gill in the middle. It would be interesting to see how both sides negotiate the next phase of play.

Kusal Mendis attempts to play that conventional sweep shot but is a bit hurried into the shot and plays over the line of the ball. Gets rapped in front of the pads. It more of looked like plumb in front. Washington Sundar has sent two of the well-settled batters now and Sri Lanka will have to rebuild again.

Drinks break! Right then, Sri Lanka lose a wicket right on the stroke of the drinks break and India have managed to break the solid stand between Avishka Fernando and Kusal Mendis. After weathering the early storm, the Lankans batter managed to get themselves into a promising position but have now lost a set batter and will have to rebuild. The pitch is definitely turning and we might see Kuldeep Yadav coming on soon for India as well. Let's see how the middle phase of the innings pans out. With that said, Sadeera Samarawickrama walks out to bat now.

BEATEN! Nicely tossed up again and around off stump, Avishka Fernando looks to lean on and block but the ball turns sharply past the outside edge.

Oh, wow! For a second, Avishka Fernando would have had his heart in his mouth. Axar Patel smartly slows it up and shortens the length, getting the ball to dip and grip. Fernando is committed on the front foot and gets a leading edge that gets lobbed up in front of covers.

Takes some pace off that delivery as well and pitches it up around off stump, Kusal Mendis simply defends it off the front foot.

Nice and full, looking to slant one in past the gate, Kusal Mendis gets on the front foot and pushes it straight to mid on.

Siraj takes pace off and bowls it full and wide, Fernando waits well and gets low before just deflecting the ball away with an open bat face to deep third for a run.

FOUR! Avishka Fernando is beaming with confidence now and that's the second short ball he has dismissed with ease. Banged in short and over the stumps, Fernando takes it on early and pulls it off the front foot in front of square leg for another boundary.

FOUR! Chipped away and the fast outfield does the rest. Pitched up around off stump and this one tails back in late, Fernando is already on the front foot but manages not to fall over and use his wrists to flick it over mid-wicket for a boundary.

Slightly back of a length and outside off stump, hardly any foot movement from Fernando as he just reaches out and pushes the ball to cover-point.

Tidy start from Axar Patel, just the single off it. That in-between length, bowled quicker and on off and middle, Kusal Mendis gets pegged back but manages to keep it out.

Slower through the air and floated up a bit around off, Fernando walks into the line of the ball and uppishly drives it down to long off for a single.

Pitched up on the stumps this time and Kusal Mendis solidly blocks it off the front foot. The ball seems to have lost its ability to swing and the Lankan batters are looking a bit more relaxed.

Good length and in the channel around off stump, Mendis leaves this one alone for the keeper to collect.

FOUR BYES! Ooh...that's spicy! Mohammed Siraj clocks in at 140 KPH and bowls a very well-directed around off stump, the ball just takes off after pitching and Kusal Mendis is taken completely aback. However, the ball flies over the keeper's head as well resulting in four extra runs.

Halt! Ouch! That must have hurt! Kusal Mendis is seen limping right after playing the pull shot. He looks in pain out there, losing his balance and twisting his left ankle. The physio is out, and the magic spray is being applied to that area. And as always, the magic spray does the trick. Kusal Mendis is up on his feet and ready to continue.

Uh, oh! Kusal Mendis seems to have twisted his right ankle while playing that pull shot. Dug in a bit short and around off, Mendis goes hard at the pull shot but miscues it badly towards mid on and has hurt himself in the process as well. Hopefully, he is fine.

Arshedeep changes the angle of attack by coming from around the stumps and bowls it full and wide, Fernando goes for the expansive drive and gets a thick outside edge wide of deep third and picks up a single.

FOUR! Every now and then, Lankan batters are playing a few delightful shots. Dug in short but not short enough. This is over middle and leg and Avishka Fernando picks it up early, swiveling and hooking it away over square leg for a boundary.

Good length around the top of off stump, Fernando stays on the front foot and blocks it off.

Fernando was cut in half there! Siraj pitches the ball up but wide of the off stump and gets it to jag back in a long way. Fernando looks to get across and block but the ball beats the inside edge and the diving keeper, rolling down to fine leg. They get a bye and it was that wobble-seamed delivery.

Length ball again in and around the off stump line, Avishka Fernando covers the line of the ball well and defends it right off the middle of the bat.

Pitched up on a nagging length around off and angling it in sharply, Fernando plants his front foot across a bit and solidly blocks it off.

On a good length and slanting it in onto the pads from wider of the crease, Kusal Mendis tucks the ball down to deep backward square leg and rotates the strike.

Goes back to bowling full and in the channel around off stump, Mendis makes another good leave.

Spongy bounce on offer and that one didn't get high up at all. Siraj bangs in a short ball right at the batter and Kusal Mendis ducks under it but the ball barely clears the batter.

Fuller in length and trying to attack the pads, Fernando flicks it away but straight to the man at square leg.

WIDE! A nothing shot from Fernando but he gets away with it. On the shorter side and well wide of the off stump, going further away, Fernando just leaves his hands hanging and is lucky not to have got an outside edge on that one.

Nagging length on the fourth stump line, going across a bit, Fernando watches it well and shoulders arms at the ball.

Goes a bit fuller and wider of the off stump, this one goes straight on as well and Fernando leaves it alone.

FOUR! Perfectly timed! Pitched up again outside off but this time Avishka Fernando simply walks into the line of the ball and caresses it on the up through covers for a boundary.

Uppish but no harm done! Arshdeep pitches the ball up outside off stump, inducing the drive but Avishka Fernando is early on it and ends up pushing it wide of the man at mid off.

Fractionally short and around off, jagging back in, Kusal Mendis plays it late and close to the body, cutting it away wide of deep third for a run.

WIDE! Good shape on that one but the line is wrong. Good length on leg stump and angling down leg with some good carry, called a wide.

Hard length around off, Mendis hangs back and lets the ball come on, dabbing it away with soft hands down to deep third for a single.

Slightly back of a length and on a tight line around off stump, this one jumps off the deck and Mendis is taken aback but does well to keep it down on the off side.

On the shorter side and angled into the body of the batter, Kusal Mendis tucks it in front of the man at square leg.

Pulls the length back a bit now and tries to angle it into the stumps by coming wide of the crease, Kusal Mendis watchfully defends it out.

FOUR! That's just begging to be hit! Siraj misses his mark looking for swing and serves it too full and wide of the off stump, Kusal Mendis gets on the front foot and creams the cover drive through the gap and picks up the first boundary of the game.

First runs off the bat and Avishka Fernando is off the mark! Just short of a good length, sliding on from middle, Fernando gets across and tucks it away through the gap at mid-wicket for a couple of runs.

Hard length now over middle, this one stays upright and Fernando gets right behind the line to block it off.

OUT! EDGED AND GONE! A first-ball duck for Pathum Nissanka and India are off to a perfect start. Beautiful delivery from Mohammed Siraj though as he steams in from over the wicket and pitches the ball up around off, slanting it in and then getting it to nip away off the deck. All in readiness for the 2nd ODI to get underway at the iconic R. Premadasa! It's a warm sunny afternoon in Colombo with a warm breeze blowing across the park. The two umpires are out to the middle. Indian players make their last-minute strategies in a huddle near the ropes before scattering to the field. Pathum Nissanka and Avishka Fernando are the two openers for Sri Lanka. For India, Mohammed Siraj has the new ball and will open the attack. And, here we go...

Shivam Dube is up for a flash interview. He says it feels great to be back in the side. Adds he first played in 2019 and then got an opportunity now so he aims to make the most out of it. Continues and says that they lost a few quick wickets in the first match, and that they didn't lose the game but tied it. On his bowling he says he looks to bowl regularly and is working on it.

Rohit Sharma, the captain of India says that they know what to expect while chasing so it is fine and hopefully, they have a good game. Adds that you cannot always play the same way and need to adjust according to the conditions and adapt quickly. Mentions that they want to play freely and stay in the present. Adds that they are going in with the same team and says that it was a fair result in the last game as both sides dominated in different phases of the game.

Charith Asalanka, the skipper of Sri Lanka says that they will bat first and adds that the pitch looks pretty same as the previous game. Adds he doesn't want many changes as a skipper. Informs Wanindu Hasaranga is ruled out and Jeffrey Vandersay comes in. Another change as Kamindu Mendis comes in place of Mohamed Shiraz.

TOSS - The flip of the coin lands in favor of Sri Lanka and they have elected to BAT first.

We are a couple of minutes away from the toss and the big news from the Lankan camp is that Wanindu Hasaranga has been ruled out due to a hamstring injury. Sri Lanka have named Jeffrey Vandersay as his replacement and this could be a factor as Hasaranga is their lead spinner.

PITCH REPORT - Russel Arnold is pitchside. He says that it is a warm afternoon and it is 76 meters down the ground with 65 meters and 66 meters on either side of the square. Adds that the pitch is quite dry and similar to the pitch that was used in the first ODI. Mentions that there will be some crumbling and won't be much movement for the pacers. Reckons that the batters need to recognize how and when to accelerate.

It hasn't been the best of times for the Lankan Lions against India when it comes to playing ODI cricket at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo but they did manage a win a little over 3 years ago and with that last outing, the home side will believe that they have a real chance of going ahead in the series. India on the other hand will be eager to improve upon their last two showing in the Island nation and will look for a much more convincing performance. The visuals show that the clouds have cleared out and the Sun is shining as well in Colombo. Stay tuned as toss and team news aren't far away.

India on the other hand will be slightly underwhelmed with their batting performance as they had a solid outing with the ball and the spinners ruled the roost as they have on so many occasions in such conditions. The likes of skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli returned to the fore as well and the former made a fine half century but Kohli along with that middle order couldn't quite get going as Axar Patel and KL Rahul too got out after getting starts. Shivam Dube impressed with the ball and almost took his side home with the bat as well but it wasn't meant to be and India will be looking to hit back hard.

Sri Lanka might have been swept in the three-match T20I series leading up to the ODIs but there were signs that they could definitely beat the Asian powerhouse that is India and almost pulled off a stellar win in the first ODI. Dunith Wellalage ran the show for the hosts with his thunderous batting and then his smart bowling too. The hosts were on the verge of a loss and skipper Charith Asalanka took matters into his own hands and with the scores level, he managed to pick up the remaining two Indian wickets and sent the whole crowd into a frenzy.

With game-changers like Rishabh Pant and Riyan Parag warming the bench, there's a possibility of a shake-up in the playing XI. Who makes way, if at all, will be a topic of hot debate in cricketing circles. While the bowling looks sorted out with almost everyone chipping in with crucial scalps.
