Back for the chase. Sahibzada Farhan and Saim Ayub to open for Pakistan. Maheesh Theekshana to bowl first.
...THE CHASE
At 22/2, Sri Lanka were staring down the barrel of a collapse. However, Dhananjaya de Silva and Charith Asalanka refused to blink, steadying the ship. It was a decent recovery, but far from dominant at that stage, Pakistan likely felt they held the upper hand, however, the middle overs and the death-overs finish belonged entirely to the hosts. The complexion of the game shifted dramatically thanks to a late-inning blitz from Dasun Shanaka and Janith Liyanage, who combined for a 50-run partnership off only 14 deliveries. Shanaka led the charge with a strike rate of 377, scoring 34 off 9 balls and clearing the ropes five times, three of which came consecutively against Wasim. Janith Liyanage’s clinical 22 off 8 ensured the momentum never dipped, propelling Sri Lanka to a formidable total. Can the visitors match the task? Stay tuned to find out.
In a match where time was a luxury they didn’t have, Sri Lanka played with an audible intent, choosing courage over caution and the scoreboard reflected that bravery. In a frantic 12-over sprint, the narrative shifted with every delivery. Pakistan won the toss and followed the conventional logic of a shortened contest by electing to bowl first. Early on, that decision looked like a masterstroke. They found the breakthroughs they craved and seemed to have the game under a tight leash, but they hadn't accounted for Sri Lanka’s ability to transform a shaky foundation into a stormy finish. From a precarious start, the hosts surged to a massive 160/6.
A massive 24 runs off the final over sees Sri Lanka finish on a high! In this must-win clash to level the series, the batters have delivered an excellent performance. Now, the pressure shifts to the bowlers to defend the total and do their job.

Commentary
That is all from this game. The trophy has been shared. Dasun Shanaka and Salman Agha pose for the cameras. Hope you enjoyed our coverage. Thank you for joining us. We will be back with more cricket soon. Goodbye and cheers!
Dasun Shanaka, the skipper of Sri Lanka says he is relieved. Expresses his gratitude to the groundstaff and the supporters who stayed till the end. Adds that the batters read the conditions, and everyone played their part. On his knock, he is happy with his performance and if he helps this way, it will help the team. Mentions that Wanindu Hasaranga is a master of this game, he handles the situation really well.
Pakistan captain, Salman Agha says it was a great game but feels they gave too many with the ball. Shares that they had to execute a bit well with the ball. Admits that more 3-4 overs would have made it a closer game, it was touch and go but that's how cricket goes. Feels they need to be better in the death overs and field well.
Wanindu Hasaranga wins the Player of the Match award and the Player of the Series award. He expresses that it was a tough game but they bowled well. Tells that the Pakistani bowlers were struggling, so he just bowled wide and slow and hit the long boundaries. Mentions that he is feeling good. They are looking forward to the next games.
...Presentation...
The turning point arrived when Wanindu Hasaranga took the ball. The leg-spinner showed his class by striking twice in four balls, removing both the set Nafay and the dangerous Shadab Khan. While Nawaz continued to fight, his dismissal by Matheesha Pathirana at a crucial juncture left Pakistan with too much to do. Eshan Malinga held his nerve with a clinical display of death bowling to seal the historic win. Backed by superb fielding, the bowling duo of Hasaranga (4/35) and Pathirana (2/34) ensured that Sri Lanka’s courageous batting performance didn't go to waste.
The chase began with a flurry of intent from Pakistan’s captain, Salman Agha. After the early loss of Sahibzada Farhan, Agha single-handedly dragged Pakistan ahead of the required rate, dismantling the attack with back-to-back 22-run overs. His blistering innings put the visitors in a commanding position until his dismissal triggered a collapse. Pakistan slipped from a comfortable 60/1 to a precarious 67/4 in a matter of minutes. Just as the game seemed to be slipping away, Mohammad Nawaz and debutant Khawaja Nafay reignited the chase with a 49-run partnership off 26 balls, swinging the pendulum back toward a green victory.
Pakistan’s decision to bowl first initially seemed inspired when they removed both openers within two overs. Kamil Mishara had provided a lightning start but Pakistan’s new-ball attack struck back to leave the hosts at 22/2. However, Sri Lanka refused to let the falling wickets slow their momentum. A series of aggressive cameos from Kusal Mendis, Dhananjaya de Silva, and Charith Asalanka kept the scoreboard ticking, but the real explosion came at the death. Dasun Shanaka’s 34 off 9 balls and Janith Liyanage’s unbeaten 22 off 8 propelled Sri Lanka to a massive 160/6. It was a tough outing for the visitors’ bowlers, particularly Mohammad Wasim, who, despite taking three wickets, conceded 50 runs in his three-over spell.
A wonderful game after all, and the hosts level the series, thanks to the rain, a late flourish by Dasun Shanaka and Janith Liyanage with the bat and an all-round performance with the ball. Before the first ball was even bowled, the ground staff emerged as the unsung heroes, despite torrential rains that threatened a total washout, their tireless work ensured the fans were treated to a thrilling 12-over shootout.

The atmosphere is electric, and with the weather looking to hold up, we are set for a cracking contest. Can the Sri Lankan lions roar back to square the series, or will Pakistan’s top-order blitz prove too much to handle once again? The toss is just moments away, so get ready for an exciting finish to this T20 series!
Sri Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka has called for his team to 'hunt as a pack' after a batting collapse in the opener. The management will be hoping for a much-improved display, potentially bringing the slinging Matheesha Pathirana back into the attack to partner with the in-form Wanindu Hasaranga. On the other side, Pakistan might look to test their bench strength ahead of the T20 World Cup, with speedster Naseem Shah possibly sneaking into the XI to add some extra heat to an already dangerous bowling unit.
Hello and welcome to the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium for the third and final T20I between Sri Lanka and Pakistan. After a frustrating washout in the second game, it all comes down to this high-stakes showdown. Pakistan currently holds a 1-0 lead, meaning the Men in Green have already avoided a series defeat, but they will be hungry to seal the trophy outright. For the hosts, it’s a do-or-die situation. They must win today to level the series and restore some pride on home soil.
...MATCH DAY...
Rain and Sri Lanka have long been reluctant partners in crime, and whenever cricket visits this part of the world, that combination has a habit of gatecrashing the party. The second T20I fell victim to it, despite having plenty riding on the contest, with both Sri Lanka and Pakistan treating the series as a dress rehearsal for the mega event in February. For now, there is little to add except a hope that the rain gods have already taken their offering and allow the final game to go ahead. Looking back at the key takeaways, the talking points remain familiar for the hosts. Sri Lanka were found wanting in all three departments in the opening game, and time is now very much against them. Intent and energy were noticeably missing, and addressing that will be as important as any tactical change. As far as Pakistan are concerned, the picture is far more settled. They ticked most boxes in the first game and looked well-prepared, even if a few moments in the field suggested there is always room for fine-tuning. Both sides could look for a few changes, with experimentation still very much in focus. Pakistan may hand opportunities to the likes of Naseem Shah and Usman Khan as they look to get more game time into the squad, while Sri Lanka could also shuffle their bowling options. Dunith Wellalage, Matheesha Pathirana and Eshan Malinga are among the names the hosts might consider as they try out different combinations in the final outing. With only one match left to influence the series result, Sri Lanka know this is their final chance to show that the opening defeat was an aberration and they can turn potential into performance. Meanwhile, Pakistan will aim to keep things simple and clinical to end with 2-0. The forecast once again points towards rain, which comes as no real surprise. All that remains now is to stay optimistic and hope the weather finally allows the cricket to take centre stage.
