Right then. That's it from the coverage of this game. The T20 World Cup action continues on Wednesday, 19 October 2022. Another double-header coming your way with Scotland taking on Ireland at 9.30 am IST (4 am GMT). Followed by a game between West Indies and Zimbabwe which will be played at 1.30 pm IST (8 am GMT). But as you all know you can join us early for the build-up. Until then, take care and goodbye!

Dasun Shanaka, the victorious skipper is in for a chat. He says that the crowd follows them and he is thankful to them for their support. Mentions that he is really disappointed with the way they ended the innings as they could have easily got to 180 or 190. Adds that he and Bhanuka Rajapaksa didn’t click in the middle overs and that cost them a few runs. Claims that coming into this game it was important to get the win and they didn’t worry about net run rate. Adds that they were able to put up a good score on the board and Dushmantha Chameera and Wanindu Hasaranga did well to restrict the opponents. Credits Pathum Nissanka for an outstanding innings and adds that he has always had the talent and they are proud of him. Ends by saying that hopefully everything will be fine with Dushmantha Chameera.

Chundangapoyil Rizwan, the skipper of United Arab Emirates says that they restricted the opponents to a decent total. Admits that they could have bowled better in the first half of the game but they did well to get back in match. Credits Karthik Meiyappan for bowling beautifully and adds that getting a Hat-trick in the World Cup is exceptional. Mentions that they usually play in hotter conditions but need to adapt to the different climates. Ends by saying that the batters could not get going as the Sri Lankan fast bowlers bowled well with the new ball and they need to work on their skill sets to do better.

Pathum Nissanka wins the Man of the Match award for his incredible knock of 74 runs. He says along with Kusal Mendis he was able to build a good opening partnership. Adds that all the other batters helped him build his innings. Claims that he is happy to play a game like this in the World Cup and thanks the crowd for their support.

Stay tuned for the presentation...

Earlier in the innings, Sri Lanka seemed to be on track to score around 180, although they could not keep the ante up and only posted 152 on the board. It was the brilliant effort of the UAE bowlers that helped them to pull things back. It was majorly because of Karthik Meiyappan who turned the game on its head with his Hat-Trick. Later though UAE could not turn on the heat with the blade and got bundled out for 73 runs.

Sri Lanka ripped the hearts of the UAE outfit. The bowlers never allowed the batters to have a breather at the crease. It was Dushmantha Chameera who opened the floodgates and boy, he was enjoying his time back from injury. Although, to break the hearts of Sri Lankan fans he was unable to complete his spell of 4 overs, as he went off the ground after picking up a niggle in his run-up. Hopefully, he should be back soon and it does not affect Sri Lanka's journey. Dushmantha Chameera was the star with 3 wickets. Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana also did the trick with the ball and combined for 5 wickets.

United Arab Emirates could not turn up with the blade tonight. It looked like they will put up a solid fight with the way Chirag Suri started the innings, although things went bad very soon as they lost 4 wickets inside the Powerplay. Later, on only Aayan Khan played a gritty knock and Junaid Siddique entertained the crowd with his aggressive approach. Apart from them, no other batter could live up to the task.

Sri Lanka record their first win of the campaign in front of the buoyant Sri Lankan fans. United Arab Emirates tried their very best with the ball but the early collapse with the bat took the game away from them. Although there are a lot of sweet memories that UAE will take from this game.

Commentary

The chase is set to begin. Sri Lanka players stride out to the middle. Followed by Chirag Suri and Muhammad Waseem who walk out with their swords to open for United Arab Emirates. Pramod Madushan to start with the new ball.

... The Run Chase ...

Sri Lanka will back themselves to defend this total on this tricky batting surface. On the other hand, UAE will need to bat out of their skins if they want to get over the line tonight. Chase coming up in a bit…

Karthik Meiyappan is in for a chat. He says that the Hat-trick has definitely not sunk in yet and adds that it is a special feeling to get it against a Test-playing nation. When asked to speak through the Hat-trick he claims that he was bowling with the longer boundary to the leg side of the left-hander but put it outside off and Bhanuka sliced it. Mentions that Charitha pushed at the ball and nicked it. He admits that the last wicket was special as he was able to go through the defence of Dasun. Goes on to say that there was not much purchase off the wicket so he wanted to keep it stump to stump. Ends by saying that the sweetest thing would be if the batters get them through.

UAE bowlers struggled at the start to find the correct lines and lengths to bowl on this wicket. Sri Lanka were on course for a huge total but Karthik Meiyappan dismantled the Lankan batting with a Hat-Trick in the 15th over. However, UAE will be disappointed that they let Sri Lanka cross the 150-run mark.

Sent into bat first by UAE, Sri Lanka were off to a flier in the Powerplay. At 117-2, Sri Lanka were going along nicely but what followed then was an absolute collapse. It looked like Sri Lanka lost their way but some late flourish by opener Pathum Nissanka helped Sri Lanka recover and put 152 on the board.

WOW! What an enthralling innings this turned out to be. The momentum surely will be with UAE heading into the break. The UAE batter have their task cut-out and would be coming back on the field with the right intent.

Second dot of the over! It is full, outside off. Pathum Nissanka looks to heave it away but misses. The bowler though thinks he got some blade on it and makes a stifled appeal. The umpire shows no interest.

17.32

Fuller, on leg stump. Pathum Nissanka flicks it towards mid on. There is no man in the in-field which allows the batters to rush for the second run as well. Good running between the wickets here.

17.20

Zahoor Khan sprints in and fires in a wide yorker, Pathum Nissanka tries to dig it out but does not connect.

17.14

FOUR! A much-needed boundary for Sri Lanka. Quite innovative from Nissanka. It is a length ball, outside off. Pathum Nissanka shuffles way across and pulls it over square leg.

DRINKS - Sri Lanka have gotten off to a good start scoring 52 runs in the Powerplay itself and now that the platform is set, will look to accelerate towards the end. They need a big score on the board as things may come down to net run rate at the end. The United Arab Emirates bowlers have lacked the penetration claiming just one scalp so far, though they managed to gain some control just before the break. Will they be able to take some wickets and put pressure on the Sri Lankan batters? There is much more action in store for us...

We are done with the prematch formalities and we are all set to begin match number 6. The umpires collect the match ball and the United Arab Emirates players make a huddle near the boundary line before taking their respective positions on the field. Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis are the openers for Sri Lanka and they will be hoping to get off to a much better start in this game. Junaid Siddique has the new ball in his hand and will begin proceedings. Let's play...

The umpires and both sets of players stride onto the field and lineup for the respective team's national anthems. It will be United Arab Emirates first followed by the national anthem of Sri Lanka.

PITCH REPORT - Dirk Nannes is out in the middle to analyze the pitch. He says that the two pitches used so far in the tournament are contrasting. Mentions that this wicket is really dry like it would be seen in summer. Claims that the wicket won't slow down further but should help the slower bowlers who take the pace off the ball.

Dasun Shanaka the captain of Sri Lanka says he would have bowled first as well. Informs they have one change too. Mentions that injuries can happen at any time but they have a balanced side and can keep that intact. Mentions that it was a bad day at the office in the previous encounter but they would like to forget it and get into this game. Claims that the opposition has a good side and they would not want to underestimate them.

Chundangapoyil Rizwan the skipper of United Arab Emirates says that they will have a bowl first. Mentions that it is a comparatively hotter day and dew may come to play in the second innings which may make it difficult for the spinners later on. Informs that they will be going with one change. Claims that there are lots of positives to take from the previous game as they were able to take the game to the last over. Adds that they played well under pressure and want to build on that to win here.

United Arab Emirates (Playing XI) - Muhammad Waseem, Chundangapoyil Rizwan (C), Aryan Lakra (In place of Zawar Farid), Vriitya Aravind (WK), Chirag Suri, Basil Hameed, Kashif Daud, Aayan Khan, Karthik Meiyappan, Junaid Siddique, Zahoor Khan.

Sri Lanka (Playing XI) - Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis (WK), Dhananjaya de Silva, Charith Asalanka (In place of Danushka Gunathilaka), Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Dasun Shanaka (C), Wanindu Hasaranga, Chamika Karunaratne, Dushmantha Chameera, Pramod Madushan, Maheesh Theekshana.

TOSS - The captains are out in the middle. The coin is flipped into the air and lands in favor of United Arab Emirates. They have elected to BOWL first.

United Arab Emirates will know that they are one of the weakest sides in the tournament but they would have seen what a smaller team with the right attitude is capable of achieving if they put their hearts and mind into it. The batters look like they have the ability to stick around at the wicket but they lack the impetus to score quickly when the situation demands the same from them. They will need to be slightly more positive in this game if they are to beat a much stronger opponent who would be coming into this game licking their wounds. The bowlers had a good game last time around taking the game to the wire but will they be able to lead their team to victory today? Or will Sri Lanka set the board right with their first win? We will find out soon.
