Aaron Jones is the Player of the Match for his match-winning knock. He says it isn't easy to put into words and it is a big rivalry but he is just happy to take his team over the line tonight. Adds that he knew anything around 200 was chasable and they backed themselves to do it. Mentions that he practices hard and then backs himself in the game. Reckons that he has been with the side for a while now and they have been under pressure, yet again iterates that he is happy to get his side home.

Presentation time...

Not a lot to talk about Canada's bowling performance. They started well with the ball but once the USA counter-attacked, it all went downhill for Canada. Kaleem Sana, Dilon Heyliger, and Nikhil Dutta took one piece but Canada were outplayed in the end as USA chased the score with more than 2 overs to spare. Earlier in the day, Canada made 194 for 5 on the back of attacking fifties from Navneet Dhaliwal and Nicolas Kirton while Aaron Johnson and Shreyas Movva also made handy runs.  Harmeet Singh was the standout bowler for USA with an economy under 7 and took a wicket as well. Canada will face harder challenges against stronger teams but they will hope to put up a better show in their upcoming games.

WHAT A DOMINANT WIN!  A thumping victory for the co-hosts USA, who start their tournament with a BANG. Chasing a massive score of 195 for the win, USA started tenatively and lost Steven Taylor for a golden duck. Monank Patel and Andries Gous stuck around for a while and added 42 for the second wicket. Monank Patel departed for 16 in the seventh over and in came Aaron Jones. He stuck the ball cleanly from the start of the innings and tilted the momentum in his team's favor. Him alongside Gous, added a brillaint 131 for the third wicket in less than ten overs. Jones peppered boundaries at will and never allowed Canada the chance to get back. Gous started slowly but stuck around and made 65 off 46 to support Jones. It was Aaron Jones, who was the star of the chase with an unbeaten 94 off just 40 and gives USA, their first ever win the T20 World Cup.

17.46

SIX! That's it, Aaron Jones has done it and what a way to get USA its first ever T20 World Cup win. Flighted delivery on off and middle, Jones yet again sets himself up for the slog-sweep and smokes the ball high and handsome over deep mid-wicket for a biggie. Jones finishes unbeaten on 94 off 40 balls with 10 sixes as USA beat Canada by 7 wickets!

17.30

Commentary

We atre back for the all-important run chase! The umpires are back out in the middle as the Canadian players can be seen in a huddle, getting a few last-minute instructions from the coaching staff. It will be skipper, Monank Patel to open the innings for USA alongside the dynamic Steven Taylor. Kaleem Sana to begin proceedings with the ball for Canada. Let's go...

... The Run Chase ...

Right then, the co-hosts need a huge total of 195 to kick off the 2024 Men's T20 World Cup with a win here in Group A. It most certainly won't be an easy task but the pitch looks pristine and they have the firepower to do so. Canada will be on a high after that blistering finish and will be eyeing up early wickets to get a stranglehold on the game. But who comes out on top? Only time will tell. Join us in a bit as the exciting run chase is up next.

Navneet Dhaliwal is down for a quick chat. He says that he is happy with his innings. Adds that it is a high-profile game but they are used to the pressure. Credits Aaron Johnson who always helps as he gives good starts. Mentions that 180-185 is par score here but they need to bowl well. Ends by sharing that the change of pace and variations will help the bowlers.

USA were definitely not at their best but did manage to pull things back a fair bit in the last few overs. However, that last over did cost them a fair bit as Ali Khan went for 21 runs and it will have to be a record run chase for USA if they are to win this game. Harmeet Singh was the pick of the bowlers as he remained fairly economical and Ali too bowled well till that final over. Corey Anderson was used in the latter stages to pick up wickets and he did deliver but he too went the distance and overall, it was a just below par performance with the ball.

What an entertaining first innings that was and eventually, Canada will be very happy to have posted 194 huge runs on the board after being asked to bat first. USA weren't quite as clinical with the ball and would be a touch disappointed with their efforts in the first half. Canada got off to a pretty fast start with the likes of Navneet Dhaliwal and Aaron Johnson raking in the boundaries but after the first wicket, things slowed down a bit and Dhaliwal had to anchor the innings for a while. It was then a partnership between Navneet and Nicholas Kirton that brought the innings back to life with both players scoring half-centuries. However, they lost wickets at the backend and looked like barely crossing 180 runs but an excellent cameo of 32 runs off just 16 balls by Shreyas Movva propelled them to a total above 190.

Time for Drinks! USA are slowly but steadily getting the momentum back in the game. They struggled in the powerplay and lost both their openers but Aaron Jones has come out with positive intent and is striking crisply. He needs to carry on with Gous and take the innings deep for USA to have a chance. Canada, meanwhile, started well with their pace bowlers but the spinners have found it tough with the dew around the outfield. The Canadians will hope to keep taking regular wickets and stem the flow of runs. An exciting chase is upon us. Don't go anywhere!

It will be the pair of Navneet Dhaliwal and Aaron Johnson to open the innings for Canada. Ali Khan has been handed the new ball and he is raring to go. Let's play... A bit of a delayed start as there an issue with the sightscreen.

We are just a few minutes away from the start of the match but first, the two sets of players make their way through the smoke and onto the field to lineup for their respective national anthems. It will be the national of Canada first followed by the national anthem of USA.

With the first game of the 2024 Men's T20 World Cup about to get underway, the opening ceremony has begun and it really is a festival of cricket out there on the ground. This is basically the oldest rivalry in international cricket with the first match between USA and Canada dating back to 1844 and what an occasion this is as they meet in a major tournament for the first time in 180 years.

PITCH REPORT - Natalie Germanos is pitchside. She says that the outfield seems excellent despite all the rain. Adds that the boundaries are 61 meters on one side of the square and 70 meters on the other with 73 meters straight. Sunil Gavaskar joins her and says that the grass covering is a lot less but there will be carry for the pacers and the batters will like batting on it too.

Canada's skipper, Saad Bin Zafar says that the surface looks really good and they don't mind batting first and putting runs on the board. Adds that they have a full squad and this is the first time they are playing the T20 World Cup and are very excited.

Monank Patel, the skipper of USA shares that it’s a fresh wicket and will help the bowlers initially. Adds that they want to chase and be aware of the target. Mentions that the players have made a lot of sacrifices to reach this far and it’s a great feeling to be part of the home World Cup. Ends by saying that the team hopes to do well.

USA's neighbour, Canada on the other hand have played in ODI World Cups before but seemed like a lost side in the last decade or so. However, they too seem to have found a group of players that can stick together and play and exciting cricket. Given recent, hosts USA will be the favourites to pick up the win here but we won't be much surprised if Canada do pull off a win. A lot of action to look forward to, so, don't go anywhere. Toss and team news in a bit.

USA kickoff a historic T20 World Cup upbeat from a stunning series win against Bangladesh just a few days ago. USA might be minnows but they seem to have put together a team that can cause an upset or two in the course of this campaign. They do have a few exciting players to watch out as former Kiwi all-rounder, Corey Anderson makes his return to the big stage as well.

Hello and a very warm welcome to one and all! From bustling city streets to remote corners of the globe, passionate fans of this illustrious sport are on the edge of their seats, eagerly awaiting the grand spectacle of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 as it prepares to launch into its electrifying league phase. This prestigious competition marks a historic collaboration between the Caribbean and the USA as joint hosts. For the very first time, this mega event makes its way to the USA, alongside the vibrant cricketing culture and the shores of the Caribbean. This tournament breaks new ground with an unprecedented lineup of 20 international teams, a testament to the growing global appeal of T20 cricket. Divided into four groups, this edition makes history as the largest gathering of nations ever seen in the T20 World Cup in its 17-year history. The inaugural league match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is all set to see the hosts USA facing off against their northernmost neighboring rivals, Canada in Match 1 of Pool A at the Grand Prairie Stadium, Dallas. When it comes to the hosts, the USA, they're riding a tidal wave of momentum, having shocked the cricketing world with a sensational 2-1 T20I series triumph over Bangladesh and a dominant 4-0 victory over Canada earlier this year. Under the leadership of Monank Patel, the team is geared up to start their campaign on a positive note. With a formidable batting lineup featuring Aaron Jones, Andries Gous, Milind Kumar, and Steven Taylor, complemented by experienced all-rounders like Corey Anderson and Harmeet Singh, the USA squad presents a formidable challenge to their opponents. Bolstered by the bowling prowess of Saurabh Netravalkar, Shadley van Schalkwyk, and Ali Khan, the team boasts a well-rounded squad with plenty of options in both batting and bowling departments and most importantly, with the squad being in a good headspace altogether. Although Canada too, won one of its warm-up games against Nepal in a dominating manner, it further adds a thrill to the brewing contest. With Saad Bin Zafar, a veteran presence known for his skills as a bowling all-rounder, and also leading the pack, Canada enters the fray with confidence and determination. The batting lineup will be bolstered by the talents of Ravinderpal Singh, Navneet Dhaliwal, and Nicholas Kirton, who have shown flashes of promise in recent outings. The bowling attack will be led by the talents like Dillon Heyliger, who showcased his prowess with a brilliant 4-wicket haul against Nepal. Supported by pacers Jeremy Gordon, Kaleem Sana, and Rishiv Joshi, along with the spin options of Saad Bin Zafar himself, Nikhil Dutta, and Junaid Siddiqui. Will the USA kick off their campaign with a victory or can Canada inflict a surprise? Which team do you think will take this contest home?
