8.28 pm GMT - The stumps have now been erected in the middle and all the covers have been peeled off from the ground. The two umpires have walked back after the inspection, so we might get an official update about the resumption very soon. Stay tuned.

8.18 pm GMT - The rain looks to have eased off now. One of the umpires is keeping a close watch on things standing beside the covers, and the live visuals show John Campbell and Dhananjaya de Silva, out near the boundary line. Kamindu Mendis and Shamar Joseph have joined too, and they are having a candid chat. Meanwhile, the covers have come off. So there's plenty of action happening out in the middle. And now both umpires, Paul Reiffel and Ahsan Raza, have walked out to join them. They now head out to the middle to inspect the playing area and have a detailed chat with the head of the ground staff.

8.06 pm GMT - Nothing new to report. It's been almost half an hour since the stoppage. But it is still raining heavily, and in fact, overhead conditions have gotten a lot darker now as well. 7.39 pm GMT - Uh, oh! The rain is back again, and the umpires have requested the players go off the field. The ground staff swiftly bring the covers and place the white sheets on the pitch. 7.03 pm GMT - The start of the third and final session has now been officially delayed. Rain continues to fall in Antigua and the longer this delay stretches, the slimmer the chances for Sri Lanka to force a result out of this game.

6.54 pm GMT - It's raining - Not a pleasing sign as the live visuals show a drizzle setting in out there. Daren Ganga, Mali Richards, and Samuel Badree are out there assessing the conditions as the rain keeps coming down. And just as we speak, the ground staff are bringing on the covers to protect the pitch and squares. The rain has gotten heavier, but it is windy, so let's hope it is just a passing burst.

A flawless stand sets up for the finale - Brandon King, though, survived two lbw scares towards the end. One that he referred and was overturned, and the second one, which he survived due to the umpire's call. Apart from that, the Caribbean duo continued their serene approach, thoroughly frustrating the visitors by batting out the entire afternoon to finish the session at 65 for no loss. Heading into the final session of this Test match, West Indies need 237 more runs to win, while Sri Lanka must somehow hunt down all 10 wickets on a flat track. A draw seems the most likely result right now, unless the Windies decide to brilliantly counter-attack or Sri Lanka produce some late bowling magic. Can someone spark a dramatic finish? A quick word - Batting coach of West Indies, Floyd Reifer, on the opening partnership, says the openers have combined really well this match, pointing out this is the fourth stand of more than 50 runs between them alongside an earlier century partnership, leaving the team pleased with the platform they've provided. On the batting conditions, he says the surface remains good for batting and the approach for the side has simply been to take it one session at a time. On the plan for the final session, he says there isn't a major challenge in sight at the moment with both openers batting well, and the focus will simply be on starting afresh and breaking the game down into the next hour long segment.

Sri Lanka declare, but the Windies openers hold firm - Sri Lanka started the post-lunch session hunting for quick runs from their score of 231/8. Despite an unlucky dismissal for Prabath Jayasuriya, Milan Rathnayake pushed the total forward until a calculated declaration arrived at 251/9, setting West Indies a daunting target of 302. Stepping out under pressure, openers Brandon King and John Campbell provided a beautifully calm response. The pair defied a probing four-man Sri Lankan bowling attack, rotating the strike cleanly to guide the hosts safely to an unbroken 38-run stand by the drinks break.

Simplifying the math - It's worth wondering whether they ought to be more conservative with the timing, given they're already 1-0 down and need something out of this Test to at least level the series. Worth remembering, though, that under the current WTC structure, points are awarded on a per Test basis rather than for the series as a whole, so there's no separate reward riding on squaring things up beyond what this individual result offers. That should, in theory, make Sri Lanka's calculation simpler rather than more complicated, since the declaration only needs to answer one question, what gives them the best chance of bowling West Indies out. Whatever happens from here, it sets up a thrilling last couple of sessions in this series. Play is expected to resume at 4.40 pm GMT. Stay tuned.

No declaration? Well, going by what Chandimal said in the flash interview, it does look that way, which is indeed surprising. But we will still wait for the official confirmation. What is beyond doubt is the position Sri Lanka find themselves in, having already built a daunting lead of 281 runs, a target that realistically would be beyond West Indies to chase down in the space of a couple of sessions.

Dinesh Chandimal is up for a quick chat - He shares that they had a plan before they came to bat, and so far, things are going as they have planned. He adds that they are looking for a few more runs before they put them to bat again. On balancing the push for a win without leaving the door open for West Indies, he says winning the game has been the approach right from the morning and confirms that a declaration is coming though he is not certain exactly when. On whether there is belief within the side that they can win this Test, he says the confidence is there given the quality of the bowling lineup with the likes of Asitha and Prabath in the ranks, and he backs the side to conjure something special over the remaining sessions.

West Indies are 478/8 - The collapse continued as Milan Rathnayaka joined the party, removing Alzarri Joseph to leave the visitors reeling at 465/8. A short passing shower threatened to halt play, but the interruption was short-lived. At the Tea break, West Indies find themselves at 478/8, trailing by 71 runs, with Justin Greaves fighting hard on 161 alongside Shamar Joseph. An eventful session - Resuming the session at 406/5, West Indies started with plenty of caution. Justin Greaves and Roston Chase looked comfortable out in the middle, applying themselves well to stitch together a solid 52-run partnership. However, just as the Windies seemed to be building a platform, Asitha Fernando turned the session on its head right before the drinks break. Unleashing a barrage of fiery short balls, Fernando picked up two quick wickets, dismissing both Chase and Anderson Phillip, to give Sri Lanka hope of still winning the game.
