Over the last two months, franchise cricket has seriously questioned the bowlers. Seeing 200-plus scores almost every next day was demoralising for the bowlers but come the biggest stage, the T20I World Cup and the same bowlers are winning you games. This was how the game used to roll, it's just the viewers who are not getting the same dopamine hit they were getting recently. That is all from this game! All eyes are on the biggest clash of the tournament. It's time for India vs Pakistan. Join us later in the day at 8 pm IST (2.30 pm GMT). You can join us early for the build-up as well. Till then, goodbye and cheers!

The skipper of the West Indies, Rovman Powell says that in the last game, they were a little bit flat and wanted to improve as a team. Feels that as a home team, pressure can get the better of you but it was good to see guys getting performances under their belt. Lauds Akeal Hosein for his bowling effort and credits him for bowling stump-to-stump. Tells that they will continue to play good cricket and improve as they face tough teams from now. Ends by saying that whenever West Indies play in Guyana, the support is fantastic and thanks the crowd for their support.

Brian Masaba, the skipper of Uganda says it was tough day, they were outplayed and outclassed by West Indies. Tells they need to learn from this game, as a batting unit what could have they done better. Shares they bowled well in the death, even to keep West Indies under 200 was a positive sign. Reckons they need to play against opposition like West Indies to improve, this are good lessons to get forward. Ends by appreciating the support they are getting no matter what the results.

Akeal Hosein is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for a spectacular five-wicket haul. He says that he needed this performance. Adds that the ball was coming out of his hand nicely but did not get the reward in the last couple of series. Further says that he needed to stay calm and a lot of hard work has gone in. Feels that the way the game is going, it is important to stay one step ahead. Shares that he tries to react to what the surfaces are doing and likes to plan his over. Ends by saying that he is happy to bowl wherever his team needs him to.

...Presenation...

Uganda were off to a disastrous start to the chase as Akeal Hosein got West Indies off to a dream start. A wicket on his second ball but that was just a tipping point of what Hosein was cooking. His skill and the angle he creates along with the swing and what conditions had to offer, pulled altogether produced one of the best bowling spells you will ever see. Akeal Hosein finished with the figures of 4-0-11-5. The other Windies bowlers chipped in as well but Akeal Hosein, boy, he was simply superb. Uganda, from the highs of winnings against PNG to facing a morale-losing defeat against two-times World T20 Champions.

To be honest, West Indies won the match during the toss, batting first was the best decision on a slow, low staying pitch. West Indies struggled to get going, their openers were finding it hard to middle the ball but the Windies power right through their line-up allowed them to stay on track and get a score around 160-170. All the batters chipped in with some valuable contributions. The Ugandan bowlers though executed their plans, they were tight throughout the innings and there were very few occassion where they missed the lines. However, the last over went for 18 runs and it just shifted the momentum towards the home team.

Ruthless! Absolute dominance from the West Indies. A landslide victory for the home team. It was not West Indies vs Uganda but Akeal Hosein vs Uganda in the second half of the game. A career-best figures for the left-arm spinners has helped West Indies win by a massive margin of 134 runs. It is also the best bowling figures for any West Indian bowler. A night to remember for Akeal Hosein, a spell to remember for the ages! Uganda on the other hand have equaled the lowest total in Men's T20I World Cup.

Commentary

Welcome back for the second essay. The two umpires have made their way out to the middle as have the players of the West Indies. It will be Roger Mukasa and Simon Ssesazi to open the innings for Uganda. West Indies are starting with spin in the form of Akeal Hosein. Let's play...

... THE RUN CHASE ...

Right then, the West Indies have the momentum with them courtesy of their strong finish with the bat and will look to carry that into their bowling effort. As for Uganda, they have a real job on their hands, especially with their batting unit struggling so far in the tournament. Given the African side's struggles with the bat and the bowling resources they have, the West Indies will fancy their chances of boosting their NRR here. Back in a bit for the chase.

Johnson Charles is up for a chat. He says it's good to have some runs under the belt, it was a tough pitch to bat on but he wanted to make the most of the first six overs, however, Uganda stuck to their plans and bowled well. Feels they have enough runs on the board and their bowlers need to execute the plans now.

Uganda will be a bit disappointed with how the last over went as the 18-run over from Cosmas Kyewuta spoiled what was otherwise a stellar death bowling display. Given the strong batting might of the West Indies, the African side should still be proud of the fight they have shown with the ball throughout the 20 overs. Uganda started well with the ball, maintaining tight lines in the first couple of overs. However, the decision to take Alpesh Ramjani off despite his economical first over backfired, as Johnson Charles took advantage of the pacers and found his rhythm. Ramjani was reintroduced in the 5th over, and he made an immediate impact. With the easing of field restrictions after the Powerplay, Uganda's spinners, in particular, pulled things back considerably in the middle phase. The African side also did an excellent job of containing the boundaries at the death until Cosmas Kyewuta missed his mark in the final over, allowing the West Indies to reach 173.

West Indies finish on a high to end up with 173 on the board! Andre Russell came through for the Windies to give them the desired finishing kick. After electing to bat first, the West Indies began cautiously before Johnson Charles got going with a flurry of boundaries. Brandon King's stay at the crease was short-lived, but Nicholas Pooran's explosive hitting helped the Windies post 54 runs in the Powerplay. Both Charles and Pooran showed promise and looked set to take control of the game, but neither could capitalize fully on their starts. Similarly, Rovman Powell and Sherfane Rutherford failed to convert their starts into substantial contributions. Andre Russell did what was asked of him, and although some of his boundaries were streaky, he played a useful cameo to take his side past 170.

17.50

All set for action but before that, players from both teams will line up for their respective national anthems. It will be Uganda's national anthem first followed by of West Indies.

PITCH REPORT - Simon Doull is near the deck. He informs that it is the same pitch that was used for the game between Afghanistan and New Zealand. Says that it is a cool and fairly pleasant night with a good breeze blowing across. Shares that the 77 metres and 70 metres are the dimensions of the square boundaries with an 84-metre-long straight boundary. Samuel Badree joins him, and he feels that the variable bounce we saw last night in the game between Afghanistan and New Zealand is a cause for concern. Reckons that the surface will play in a similar way, and keeping wickets in hand for the last 10 overs will be crucial for the batting team.

Brian Masaba, the captain of Uganda says they would have batted first as well, as he feels it is difficult to chase here. Tells it was historic moment to get the first win but they are focusing on this match, they just want to get the processes right and put some pressure on the Windies. Shares they just want to keep it nice and simple while batting, focus on the ball and get to a decent score. Informs they are playing the same team.

The skipper of the West Indies, Rovman Powell says that they will bat first. Feels that it is a typical low and slow Guyanese wicket. Adds that it is a surface where you need to play proper cricketing shots. Hopes to put a good score on the board and defend it later. States that they are looking to improve in all 3 areas. Informs that they are going with the same team as the last game.

Uganda (Unchanged Playing XI) - Simon Ssesazi (WK), Roger Mukasa, Robinson Obuya, Riazat Ali Shah, Alpesh Ramjani, Dinesh Nakrani, Kenneth Waiswa, Brian Masaba (C), Juma Miyagi, Cosmas Kyewuta, Frank Nsubuga.

West Indies (Unchanged Playing XI) - Johnson Charles, Brandon King, Nicholas Pooran (WK), Roston Chase, Rovman Powell (C), Sherfane Rutherford, Andre Russell, Romario Shepherd, Akeal Hosein, Gudakesh Motie, Alzarri Joseph.

TOSS - West Indies have won the toss and will BAT first!

On the flip side, Uganda, after a tough start to the campaign, made a triumphant comeback by securing a historic win against Papua New Guinea in only their second World Cup game. Buoyed by confidence, the African side is set to challenge the tournament hosts with vigour. Frank Nsubuga and the pace duo of Juma Miyagi and Cosmas Kyewuta performed brilliantly as a unit, and they must bring their A-game to challenge the Windies' batting firepower. With the bat, Riazat Ali Shah showed composure in a tense chase, but a collective effort from Roger Mukasa, Simon Ssesazi, and Alpesh Ramjani will be essential for Uganda to mount a strong challenge. We've already witnessed less-fancied teams topple Test-playing nations in this tournament. Are we in for another thrilling upset? Stay tuned to find out.

The West Indies enter this game with momentum, following a hard-fought victory in their opener against Papua New Guinea. Their well-rounded bowling performance set the stage for success, but their chase revealed some cracks in the batting lineup. Roston Chase and Brandon King were the standouts with the bat, while the rest of the batting unit will be eager to capitalise on scoring opportunities. Gudakesh Motie and Akeal Hosein shone with the ball, alongside impressive performances from Alzarri Joseph and Andre Russell, who will all look to continue their fine form.

Hello and a warm welcome, folks, to our coverage of the Group C clash between the West Indies and Uganda at the Guyana National Stadium. Last night's spectacular result, where Afghanistan decimated the Kiwis, has catapulted the Asian side to the top spot, making this fixture even more critical for the West Indies. Not only are they vying for two crucial points, but will aim to boost their NRR against a side that are playing their first-ever World Cup.

... MATCH DAY ...

We are at the Guyana National Stadium for match number 18 of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, where the West Indies take on Uganda in a Group C showdown. This group, aptly dubbed the 'Group of Death,' features powerhouse teams Afghanistan and New Zealand, making every game a pivotal battle for a spot in the Super 8 stage. The West Indies kicked off their campaign with a nerve-wracking win over Papua New Guinea, successfully chasing down 137 despite a rocky start. Roston Chase's composed innings was instrumental in securing the victory, while Nicholas Pooran faced a challenging time at the crease. Johnson Charles and Rovman Powell also struggled to make an impact and will be keen to find their rhythm before facing the formidable forces of Afghanistan and New Zealand. With the ball, the Windies let their grip loosen towards the end of the innings, highlighting a need to tighten their death bowling. Alzarri Joseph, the sole out-and-out pacer, is expected to lead the attack again, supported by frontline spinners Akeal Hosein and Gudakesh Motie. Romario Shepherd and Andre Russell's contributions with the ball bolstered a generally dominant bowling performance for the hosts. On the other hand, tournament debutants Uganda made history in their last outing, beating PNG to secure their first World Cup win. The bowlers were sensational, bundling out the opposition for a mere 77. Despite losing 7 wickets in their chase, Uganda crossed the finish line to secure their first points in the competition. Alpesh Ramjani, Cosmas Kyewuta, Juma Miyagi, and Frank Nsubuga formed a formidable bowling unit, with Nsubuga delivering the most economical four-over spell in T20 World Cup history. For Uganda to challenge the West Indies' batting prowess, a united bowling effort will be crucial. On the batting front, Riazat Ali Shah, who led the charge in their chase against PNG, will be pivotal again. The opening pair of Roger Mukasa and Simon Ssesazi will also play a critical role in setting the tone for Uganda's innings. Riding on a momentum wave, can Uganda spring a surprise by inflecting a shock defeat to the West Indies? We shall find out.
