Commentary

Over and out - That wraps up an entertaining contest, with West Indies Women picking up a crucial two points against Scotland Women. The action in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 now moves to the Hampshire Bowl in Southampton, where New Zealand Women take on Ireland Women in a Group B clash on Friday, 19th June. The first ball is scheduled for 5.30 pm GMT, but do join us a little earlier for all the build-up and pre-match updates. Until then, it's goodbye and cheers!

The victorious skipper of West Indies Women - Hayley Matthews says it is still sinking in after a very close game and admits there were plenty of nerves around, but she is glad that they got over the line. She credits Scotland Women for bowling in the right areas and says both she and the other batters struggled to find different scoring options. Matthews feels Stafanie Taylor made the difference with her classical strokeplay and praises her versatility and experience, especially in a slightly different role. She also notes that it was clear from the first innings that spin was difficult to get away, which is why she wanted her spinners on as early as possible. She reveals that Shemaine Campbelle had been unwell since the morning and was only a 50-50 chance to play, while Deandra Dottin's passion and desire to contribute remain unquestioned despite an unfortunate outing. Looking ahead, Matthews says every World Cup game is hugely important and expects a big challenge against Sri Lanka Women, adding that they will need to perform better than they did in this game.

The captain of Scotland Women - Kathryn Bryce says that they started well but lost their way towards the end. She adds that they were a bit sluggish on their lines and lengths and that is what cost them the game. She reckons that they played good cricket and West Indies Women were smart with their pace off bowling. Bryce mentions that Carter was brilliant and Lister fought well, as they always felt they were in the hunt. Ends by saying that they are excited for their next game against England, and they will give their best.

Let's hear from the captains now...

From early woes to late relief - West Indies Women will be relieved with the result, but their bowling effort was far from perfect. After being taken apart in the first five overs, Hayley Matthews sparked the turnaround with a double strike in the sixth over, before adding another in her next over, while Afy Fletcher chipped in with two wickets as the Windies took control. However, sloppy fielding and a couple of dropped catches allowed Scotland to build a vital partnership and threaten an upset. Just when the game was slipping away, Aaliyah Alleyne's three-wicket burst in the penultimate over swung the momentum back, before Qiana Joseph sealed a hard-fought victory.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH - Stafanie Taylor wins the award for her crucial knock of 47* off 19 balls. She says that she feels good to be back and she never likes it on the sidelines. She adds that she was going to bat at number 5, but because of the situation, she came in at number 7. Taylor further says that she was targeting a boundary in every over. She reckons that she worked on her technique and that is what helped in improving her batting.

West Indies recover from early trouble - Earlier in the game, West Indies Women looked to be in deep trouble at 85/5. However, a composed 36 off 26 balls from Shemaine Campbelle steadied the ship, and Jahzara Claxton's brisk cameo injected some much-needed momentum. That platform was then brilliantly capitalised on by Stafanie Taylor, who unleashed a late assault, smashing an unbeaten 47 off just 19 deliveries to propel her side to a competitive total. For Scotland Women, Katherine Fraser was the standout bowler with two wickets, while Kirstie Gordon, Rachel Slater and Kathryn Bryce chipped in with one apiece. But conceding 40 runs in the final three overs allowed the momentum to swing firmly in West Indies Women's favour.

Carter's courageous knock goes in vain - Scotland Women made a blazing start, with the openers powering their side to 51 in just five overs. However, the innings unravelled rapidly as they slipped to 58/4 and then 74/5. Darcey Carter, who had set the tone early on, refused to give up. Battling through an injury, she dug deep for a courageous half-century and, alongside Alisa Lister, who smashed 33 off 25, stitched together a crucial 58-run stand that brought the equation down to 22 needed off 12 balls. But with both batters falling in the same over, Scotland's hopes disappeared as they eventually fell 7 runs short.

Windies survive Scottish scare - So close, yet so far for Scotland Women! They pushed the 2016 champions all the way and had West Indies Women under immense pressure, but in the end, the experience of performing on the biggest stage proved decisive. A little more game awareness at key moments and the result might have been different for the Scots. West Indies were far from flawless and looked nervy in the field, but they will breathe a sigh of relief as they secure back-to-back wins and strengthen their push for a semi-final spot.

Commentary

We are back for the chase! The players are making their way out to the middle now. Darcey Carter and Katherine Fraser are the two openers for Scotland Women. Chinelle Henry to start proceedings with the ball. Here we go.

... THE RUN CHASE ...

The Taylor storm - Jahzara Claxton provided a crisp 16-run cameo, but it was Stafanie Taylor who completely turned the game on its head. Taylor went absolutely ballistic at the death, hammering a flawless, unbeaten 47 off just 19 deliveries to catapult the final score to 153. Scotland’s bowlers were exceptional for most of the innings but completely lost their radar in the final overs. Fraser finished as the pick of the bowlers with two wickets, while Kathryn Bryce, Kirstie Gordon, and Rachel Slater chipped in with one apiece. 153 is considered a slightly below par score here. Can Scotland Women chase this down? Or will the West Indies Women strike early? We shall find out. We will be back for the chase in a bit!

A quick word - Rachel Slater is in for a chat. She says that they are slightly disappointed as they couldn't end well, but they are happy with the score as 180 is considered a par score here. She says that she is looking forward to seeing their openers. She reckons that she is excited to be back and ends by saying that she is happy to be here.

A double blow - Shemaine Campbelle and the experienced Deandra Dottin then joined forces to steady the ship. The duo combined for a vital 35-run partnership, dragging the score to a modest 59/2 at the halfway mark after ten overs. However, just when it looked like the Windies were shifting into overdrive, Scotland fought back beautifully. They dealt a massive double-blow, removing both set batters, Dottin and Campbelle, in quick succession across the 13th and 14th overs to put the batting side right back on the defensive.

A slow start - West Indies Women end their innings at 153/6. It was a noticeably sluggish start for the West Indies Women after being put under the pump early. They lost opener Qiana Joseph inside the Powerplay, courtesy of a spectacular catch from Katherine Fraser. By the end of Powerplay, the Windies were crawling along at 33/1, desperately searching for a shift in gears. Skipper Hayley Matthews never really looked comfortable either, scratching around the crease before departing in the eighth over.

SIX! Goodbye ball! Stafanie Taylor finishes the innings in style. West Indies Women end up with 153/6. Rachel Slater bangs this into the pitch, on middle, Taylor opens up her stance and dismisses the ball out of her presence over the deep mid-wicket fence for a biggie.

Appeal for LBW, but turned down! Rachel Slater hits the length hard, on middle and leg, Jannillea Glasgow looks to heave it across the line but misses and gets hit on the pads as the ball drops on the pitch. Shemaine Campbelle wants the strike and the batters sneak in a leg bye. There is also a shout for LBW, but not given and Scotland Women take the review. UtraEdge confirms no bat involved and Ball Tracking shows wickets on umpire's call, with the ball just clipping the leg stump. The on-field call of Not Out stays.

19.41

Fuller again and outside off, Stafanie Taylor reaches out and drills it really hard but straight to point. Just one.

19.36

SIX! That is a superb shot! Pitched up and on middle, in the slot as well. Stafanie Taylor clears her front leg away, shows the full face of the bat and dispatches it over the long off fence for half a dozen more.

19.21

Very full and around off, Jannillea Glasgow jams it out towards extra cover for a single. Good thing for the Windies that Stafanie Taylor is back on strike.

19.10

Fuller one and angling down the leg side, Jannillea Glasgow backs away to flick it away but misses as the ball goes behidn to the keeper.

Right then, we are done with the pre-match formalities. Scotland Women are huddled out near the fence before they take their respective field positions. Qiana Joseph and Hayley Matthews open up for the West Indies Women. Kathryn Bryce has the new ball in hand and is raring to go. The keeper is standing up to the stumps. Let's play...

Time for the national anthems - We are all set to begin. The match officials, along with both sides, stride out in the middle and line up for their respective national anthems. It will be Scotland's first, followed by that of the West Indies.

Time to hear from the Scotland Women's camp - Priyanaz Chatterji says they were delighted with Scotland Women's victory over Ireland and calls it a special moment, marking the team's first-ever win at the T20 World Cup. More importantly, she feels the side played its own brand of cricket. Speaking about the challenges of representing Scotland, she points out that, as an Associate nation, there is limited funding available. As a result, many of the players benefit from competing in the English domestic system.

West Indies Women's premier pacer - Aaliyah Alleyne says that the biggest takeaway from their last game is that they played with fun, and when they play with fun, they play their best cricket. She adds that the change of pace worked well in their last game. Alleyne reckons that she has played here and she had a discussion with the bowling coach and he said that this is a good pitch for the pace bowlers.

PITCH REPORT - Natalie Germanos is pitchside. She says that it is the third game to be played on this pitch in two days. Adds that the temperatures are expected to get up to 24 degrees Celsius while the wind speed is 21 kmph. Mentions that it is the same surface used in the last game. Says the square boundaries are 64 and 57 meters, while the straight hit is 66 meters. Carlos Braithwaite joins her and says that the biggest takeaway from yesterday is the length. Adds that the overhead conditions will help move the ball a bit but it will be important to hit the 5-7 meter length. Shares that seamers took 10 wickets yesterday and 8 of them fell on that length and it will be key for both sides to hit the correct areas.

The skipper of West Indies Women - Hayley Matthews says that the conditions and the pitches are good here at Headingley. She adds that they have had to travel a bit but they are fully prepared. Matthews says that Stafanie Taylor and Chinelle Henry come back in the side and they are happy to have them back. She says that this is a high-scoring ground and they are familiar with the conditions.

The captain of Scotland Women - Kathryn Bryce says that they will bowl first. She says that it will be a good pitch, and they had a couple of days off before they got back to training. Bryce reckons that they know the conditions here and they are a bit comfortable. She ends by saying that they are going with the same side

West Indies Women (Playing XI) - Qiana Joseph, Hayley Matthews (C), Shemaine Campbelle (WK), Deandra Dottin, Stafanie Taylor (In place of Shawnisha Hector), Chinelle Henry (In place of Zaida James), Jahzara Claxton, Jannillea Glasgow, Aaliyah Alleyne, Afy Fletcher, Karishma Ramharack.

Scotland Women (Unchanged Playing XI) - Darcey Carter, Katherine Fraser, Kathryn Bryce (C), Sarah Bryce (WK), Megan McColl, Ailsa Lister, Priyanaz Chatterji, Rachel Slater, Kirstie Gordon, Chloe Abel, Gabriella Fontenla.

TOSS - Up goes the coin and it lands in favour of Kathryn Bryce. Scotland Women elect to BOWL first.

Clear skies - The overhead conditions look fantastic and the pitch promises plenty of runs for the batters who apply themselves. All eyes will be on the marquee battle between world-class all-rounders Kathryn Bryce and Hayley Matthews. With West Indies wanting to assert their dominance and Scotland eager to prove they belong on the big stage, we are in for a classic contest. Stay tuned as the toss is just moments away.

Scotland will aim to expand batting depth - Scotland Women are floating on cloud nine after their historic first-ever T20 World Cup victory against Ireland. However, they cannot rely solely on the brilliant Bryce sisters to anchor the entire innings. The rest of the batting lineup needs to step up and show greater intent. Against a fiery West Indies attack, Scotland's bowlers must maintain strict lines and avoid giving away easy boundaries to the destructive Windies hitters.

West Indies will target a clinical execution - While West Indies Women pulled off a sensational chase against New Zealand, they know there is room for improvement. The Caribbean side needs a more stable start at the top of the order to avoid early pressure. Their bowling unit will also look to be much more disciplined from the very first ball, aiming to choke the runs in the Powerplay instead of relying on late wickets to pull things back.

Hello and welcome to Headingley! A very warm welcome to cricket fans everywhere. We are at the historic Headingley cricket ground for a massive Group B clash in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026. Both Scotland Women and West Indies Women are riding high after thrilling wins in their opening fixtures. Here, a victory for either side will massively boost their chances for a spot in the semi-finals, making this an absolute must-watch encounter.

... MATCH DAY ...

A battle for early control - Headingley in Leeds hosts a fascinating Group B contest as West Indies Women and Scotland Women, both fresh off opening victories, lock horns in Match 12 of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026. One side arrives with the pedigree of former world champions and years of experience on the big stage, while the other is enjoying a historic rise and has already shown it belongs among the world's best. With the group stage still in its early days and every point carrying enormous significance, this contest already has the feel of a potentially pivotal encounter in the race for the semi-finals. Windies finding their rhythm - West Indies Women could hardly have asked for a better start. Chasing 163 against defending champions New Zealand, they held their nerve to pull off one of the standout wins of the tournament so far, thanks largely to Shemaine Campbelle's magnificent unbeaten 90 and Hayley Matthews' classy 48. The victory was particularly impressive considering they had to cope without Chinelle Henry, who picked up an injury in the final warm-up game and remains a big miss given her ability to contribute in all three departments. Yet, the Caribbean side has once again shown its depth. Matthews remains the heartbeat of this team, Deandra Dottin brings invaluable experience and power, while Aaliyah Alleyne's four-wicket haul against New Zealand underlined the variety in their attack. Their only concern will be tightening up with the ball after allowing the Kiwis to recover and post a daunting total. A side on the rise - Scotland Women arrive in Leeds with confidence and belief coursing through the squad. Their comprehensive 40-run win over Ireland was not just their first victory at a Women's T20 World Cup but another sign of how far this side has come in recent years. Captain Kathryn Bryce once again led from the front with a brilliant all-round display, while Sarah Bryce's composed 49 highlighted the value of their experienced core. The Bryce sisters have become the heartbeat of Scottish cricket, and around them is a group that keeps finding ways to compete. Spin has emerged as a major strength, with Kirstie Gordon and Katherine Fraser sharing six wickets against Ireland, while players like Rachel Slater and Ailsa Lister add further balance. Even the loss of leg-spinner Abtaha Maqsood to injury before the tournament has not disrupted their momentum, with Scotland continuing to punch above their weight through discipline and clarity of roles. Their warm-up victories over the Netherlands and Pakistan only reinforced the belief that this is a side capable of causing more upsets. The Leeds factor - Headingley has offered something for both batters and bowlers so far in the tournament. There could be some assistance for the seamers early on, especially under cloudy skies, but once set, batters can cash in. The forecast also hints at the possibility of brief interruptions, though hopefully not enough to take away from what promises to be an intriguing contest. Team form (Last 5 completed WT20Is, recent first) - WI-W - WLWWL | SCO-W - WWLWW. Two valuable points await - West Indies Women may start as favourites given their experience and firepower, but Scotland Women have already shown they are far more than just participants. The Caribbean side will be keen to prove their opening victory over New Zealand was no one-off, while Scotland have another chance to continue their fairytale run and announce themselves as genuine contenders. In a group where every point could shape the semi-final race, this promises to be a fascinating battle between pedigree and belief.
