Commentary

That is all from this game. Hope you enjoyed the coverage. Not much is left for the home team to chase but they'll hope to end the home series on a high note. Do join us for the third and final match on the 2nd of November at 11.30 am GMT. Do join us earlier for the build up. Till then, cheers!

Rashid Khan WINS THE PLAYER OF THE MATCH AWARD but dedicates it to Abdullah Ahmadzai for his amazing performance. He says Abdullah Ahmadzai has a bright future with the team but they need to give him more time. Tells they try to make the youngsters comfortable in the international circuit. Mentions the ball wasn't coming onto the bat nicely and appreciates his bowlers' effort to keep Zimbabwe well under par score of 145. Reckons they'll learn from this game and this series, losses keep coming but they need to keep improving with the World Cup next year. Adds that his finger is still bleeding and will see the status after having an X-ray.

Sikandar Raza, the skipper of Zimbabwe, says they are coming off some decent performances but he admits this is not a good performance from this team. Tells he will have a look at his performance before challenging the other batters. Shares it was a 145-150 pitch, it was on the slower side and hence they decided to bat first. Reckons he asked his team to put in the effort during the chase, they were hungry and showed a lot of energy. Admits that they need to play aggressively and shouldn't second guess their abilities.

...Presentation...

Afghanistan skipped a beat when Rashid Khan suffered a wrist injury but the magician returned with a fine spell and scalped three wickets in the fag end of the innings. However, initially, the likes of Abdullah Ahmadzai and Mujeeb Ur Rahman bowled really well to build the important pressure. All in all, a complete performance from Afghanistan and they deservingly take an unassailable lead of 2-0 in this series.

However, the job was done by the Afghan bowlers, who made the Zimbabwean dance to their song, once again. They did it in the first T20I and repeated a similar performance today as well. The Afghanistan bowlers restricted Zimbabwe to a mere 125 which is well short on a pitch that was asking more. Zimbabwe batters struggled to get going and looked helpless against the Afghan bowlers.

Not a straightforward chase but Afghanistan get over the victory line and with that seal the series. Ibrahim Zadran played the anchor role throughout the chase, he started well on an aggressive route but went into a shell as Afghanistan lost a couple of wickets. However, with no pressure of the scoreboard, he took his time, settled in and took his team over the line with the help of some quick hitting from Azmatullah Omarzai.

Commentary

Back for the chase. Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran to open for Afghanistan. Wellington Masakadza to bowl first.

...THE CHASE...

Afghanistan are on the cusp of sealing the series, thanks to an outstanding performance from their bowling unit. Despite fielding an inexperienced pace attack, Fareed Ahmad and Abdullah Ahmadzai bowled exceptionally well, applying pressure on the home team. Although Rashid Khan suffered a wrist injury, which left Afghanistan a bowler short, the other bowlers stepped up to fill the gap. Remarkably, Rashid Khan returned to bowl two overs in the final stages and picked up three wickets. The bowling unit has done the job. We saw the Afghan batters deliver in the first game. Can they chase down this under-par score and seal the series?

Zimbabwe's batting struggles persisted in the second T20I, as they managed a modest 125 runs, eerily similar to their 127 in the first match. Despite opting to bat first on a surface that favored the batters, the home team failed to capitalize, succumbing to poor shot selection and losing three wickets within the Powerplay. All eyes were on Sikandar Raza to bail his team out but he struggled to find his rhythm, and although there were some cameos from the middle order, none were substantial enough to make a significant impact.

19.3W

OUT! TIMBER! Abdullah Ahmadzai dishes out a yorker, shaping on off from around the wicket. Wellington Masakadza fails to dig it out cleanly and it crashes the stumps. Zimbabwe are bundled out for 125.

19.22

Nabi saves two crucial runs! Shorter and on off, Wellington Masakadza pulls it to deep mid-wicket. Mohammad Nabi slides to his left and gets a hand on it. Gets in contact with the ropes as the ball rolls back but the replay shows he somehow invaded it. Excellent job. Two runs saved.

19.11

Bowls it full and around off, Richard Ngarava digs it out back on the deck and runs across. Abdullah Ahmadzai runs across and underarms but fails to hit the target from yards away.

Pitch Report - The sky is clear and the deck has a good, even covering of grass. There are a number of cracks, but it won't make much difference. The par score should be around 190 here.

Rashid Khan, the skipper of Afghanistan, says that they would have batted as well. He says that they need to keep the consistency, and they have to focus on the areas where they have struggled. He adds that they need to restrict Zimbabwe to a score lower than 150. Ends by saying that they are unchanged.

Sikandar Raza, the skipper of Zimbabwe, says that they will bat first. Adds that the surface is a bit dry and it will be better for batting. He says that they will try to rectify the mistakes they made in the last game and would like to bounce back. Ends by saying that they have made two changes.

With a series win on the line, expect a high-intensity battle in the Zimbabwean capital. Will the hosts find the necessary fight to tie the series, or will Afghanistan produce another commanding performance? We shall find out soon. Toss and team news to follow shortly...

For Afghanistan, the game plan seems straightforward, repeat the collective effort that brought them success. The opening partnership of Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran set a fantastic platform, and the middle order cameos were essential in reaching that big total. Their bowlers, spearheaded by Mujeeb and supported by the pace of Azmatullah Omarzai (3 wickets in the first game), executed their plans flawlessly. They'll be aiming for an early breakthrough and looking to choke the Zimbabwean innings once again to wrap up the series today.

The focus will be on the Zimbabwean response after their batting lineup struggled significantly in the last match, being bowled out for 127. Skipper Sikandar Raza, who was brilliant with the ball (3/20) but fell cheaply with the bat, will be pivotal in leading a resurgence. The team needs its top order to fire and build partnerships to counter the Afghan attack, especially the devastating spin of Mujeeb Ur Rahman, who took a match-winning 4/20 in the first game. The small fighting partnership between Maposa and Evans in the last match proved the hosts have some resilience, they just need more of it.

Welcome back to the Harare Sports Club for what promises to be a thrilling second T20I between Zimbabwe and Afghanistan! After a dominant performance by the tourists in the series opener, the stakes couldn't be higher. Afghanistan, who showed incredible batting depth in the first game to post a challenging total of 180/6, are now just one victory away from sealing the three-match series. Fans are eager to see if the Chevrons can rally and keep the series alive, or if Afghanistan will continue their winning momentum.

...MATCH DAY...

The second T20 International of the series sees a resurgent Zimbabwe side desperate to level the score against a confident Afghanistan team that is looking to seal the series early. The hosts will need to quickly shake off the crushing defeat in the opener, which saw their top order fall apart completely against a fiery Afghan bowling attack. Despite the overall poor show, the impressive fight from the lower order, especially Tinotenda Mapusa and Brad Evans, offers a glimmer of hope that they can compete if their main batters step up. Afghanistan will be brimming with confidence after their clinical 53-run victory, having delivered a balanced performance with both bat and ball. The opening partnership of Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmanullah Gurbaz provided the perfect launchpad, and they will rely on this explosive start again to post another challenging total at the Harare Sports Club. Ibrahim Zadran, fresh off a brilliant half-century, and the impactful cameo from debutant Shahidullah Kamal show the depth in their batting. The real key to Afghanistan's dominance, however, lies in their bowlers. Mujeeb Ur Rahman, with his brilliant four-wicket haul, and Azmatullah Omarzai, who bounced back strongly after an expensive first over to grab three crucial wickets, proved too much for the Zimbabwean lineup. Skipper Rashid Khan will be looking for a repeat performance, knowing that their spin attack is a formidable weapon on these pitches. For Zimbabwe, the focus must shift to their top-order batting. The collapse to 30/5 in the Powerplay of the first game was the defining moment of the match, and key players like Brian Bennett will need to convert their quick starts into substantial innings. Captain Sikandar Raza, who was excellent with the ball, taking 3/20, will be expected to deliver a match-winning performance with the bat to inspire a turnaround. This second match becomes a must-win for Zimbabwe to keep the series alive, while Afghanistan has the chance to wrap up a statement series victory. So, which side will come out on top? We shall find out.
